Soderberg Pizza At The Bakery in Edinburgh, City of

Wish I had read the reviews - I ordered the omelette and it came as a semi circle of tasteless rubbery sponge. It was on dry bread - when I asked for butter I got the tiniest slither of butter and asked for more and it was pretty melted and felt like it had come off someone else's plate tbh. Couldn't fault the coffee though - 10/10 for a decaf flat white. Agree service distant and table wasn't wiped. Won't be rushing back.

Coffee good, tea good, omelette an abomination of powdered/"catering" eggs. Like eating aiplane eggs. Except for 12.50gbp. Sourdough bread was great though.

Had a relaxing breakfast, just some coffees and I had a scone with the pesto (truly to die for). The amount of light is so nice too, does a lot in Scotland.

Visited for brunch… nice omelette for me and baked eggs for my son. Unfortunately no gluten free options on the bread/bakery side so I just had extra rocket salad rather the bread with my omelette. Quite pricey for the size of the portions. £13.50 for an omelette. Nice bright sunny cafe in middle of Quartermile development beside the Meadows. Service good and very quick. Paying for location. Nice for a treat.

I had such a positive experience at Soderberg, the atmosphere is cozy and relaxing and the staff are very kind. The staff had great energy and were enthusiastic in helping me decide what to order and as a very indecisive person, I appreciate it! I decided to order a margarita pizza with smoked salmon with a side of apple juice and it was so flavourful! The overall vibe of the restaurant is very laid back with great music playing, which is perfect for anyone who wants to escape their busy day for an hour or two! Would definitely recommend giving Soderberg a visit, you wont be disappointed.

Booked for lunch with a friend. Service was OK if a bit distant, table scruffy - crumbs and stains and could have done with a wipe. Food was unremarkable. Location is lovely though.

The location is nice, decor pleasant and coffees were excellent. The buns - we tried cardamom, blueberry and custard, and raspberry and custard - were all delicious. Five stars for those. Unfortunately we assumed the breakfasts would follow the same standards. Two stars, and it’s nothing the staff could do, it’s the way the menu is planned. Ingredients are all good, but eggs whether ‘baked’ (they’re effectively fried) or omelette (effectively a flat egg pancake) were overdone. Bread was extremely thin, neither toasted nor buttered. The jamón omelette was the aforementioned dry egg pancake on dry bread with sliced jamón on the side. Everything was dry. Like other reviewers (which we didn’t check beforehand) we would expect an omelette to be cooked with the ingredients in it and baked eggs perhaps to be in a sauce, not to be dry fried. Not a pleasant breakfast at all. Go for coffee and buns and then make your own breakfast at home, or try somewhere else!

Disappointing visit. I have eaten here with my teenage daughter many times as she loves the pizza. Today we sat outside. The service was terrible, particularly once we had finished our food. Despite attending to tables near us at least three different members of staff ignored my attempts to catch their attention. I ended up going inside to pay, twenty minutes after we'd finished eating with our plates still on the table. You've lost two previously loyal customers.

We stopped in for a quick breakfast last weekend on our stay in the city - it was our first time at Soderberg and the coffee was good, the cardamom bun was flavourful, sweet, chewy and soft. The staff were friendly, a nice chilled atmosphere inside and we took a few spelt and savoury scones home with us (they were also delicious), would definitely go back and try more of their baked goods!

I went to visit this Soderberg with a friend, we got seated right by the door and we were wondering where the bathrooms were as they weren’t clear on entrance. One member of staff came over after a minute or so to ask if we were ready to order - we weren’t, so we asked if we could have a few more minutes - and another member of staff came over almost immediately and asked if we were ready and we asked for a few minutes again and also asked where the bathrooms were. When each of us were back in our seats, we waited over 20 minutes for our order to be taken, and no one came back! They left us! Disappointed because we were looking forward to a nice brunch.

We met friends for lunch today and not impressed at all. Service was so slow apart from bringing the drinks early, I ordered an open sandwich. Two thin slices of tomato with some feta cheese on a slice of bread. Almost cost £10. Shocking! Staff seemed negative and not interested. Tables not cleared quickly. We will never go again.

Friendly staff were the only positive part of the experience Sadly the food was really bland. Served a thin omelette on dried bread. Girlfriend had similar but with eggs on dried bread No butter or sauces were offered Prices were expensive for the food received. We ended up at Cafe Nero after this as the portion sizes were nothing to shout about either. Both left hungry and disappointed. I really wouldn't waste my time going

Booked ahead, but could pick any table when we arrived. Doors open felt like sitting in a wind tunnel. Tables were not cleared promptly when diners left, despite there being what looked like adequate staff and the floor needed a good sweep. Uncovered cakes on the trolley by the pizza chef. Zero atmosphere, but ignoring all the above the pizzas were excellent, well topped, thin and crispy. Maybe we picked an off moment.

So so disappointing. Was bigging up Soderberg to a friend visiting from NY especially about their pizzas which up until this week I had pronounced as the best I'd ever tasted (and I've tasted a lot). I remember complimenting the staff and chef at the time and telling everyone I know they should try Soderberg Pavilion. Between 3 of us having lunch we ordered the very same pizza, open mushroom sandwich and the eggs with jambon and spinach. When the food arrived my NY friend thought her sandwich was a small snack not a meal and I agree (it was over £9). On the open sandwich they couldn't have cut the sourdough slice any thinner; the eggs with jambon and spinach was bland and basic and the pizza although decent in size was, as my friend said, 'just alright'. The prices are not small but the portions are. Taste wise the food was passable at best. I will not be going back and feel embarrassed about the enthusiasm I had shown. My recommendation would be to go to The Pantry or Greenwoods instead.

Really poor pizza. The dough did not seem fresh, the whole thing was very dry and they skimp on toppings. For ~ £15 a pizza this was hugely disappointing.

Went here for the jazz night for my birthday. We had pizza and wine which were great. The trumpet player Colin Steele and his band were amazing. Would recommend

Decided to go to Soderberg this evening for a pizza as a special treat. We have been regulars there for awhile. When the waitress came up to ask us how are meal was, I commented that the pizza topping was a bit skimpy. In fact there large parts with no topping at all, which I pointed out. My wife’s pizza was equally sparse. I did say it tasted nice otherwise. So having asked us, we did expect the waitress to do something about it, but she just walked off without reporting our complaint or offering any apology. That’s disappointing and we will certainly not be back for pizza again.

We popped in as a family of 4 last Sunday evening and had a great night. We enjoyed the pizzas, coffee and cinnamon buns. All great! But what added to the evening was the terrific entertainment as it was Jazz Sunday. Thoroughly enjoyed the music and topped off with friendly, attentive service will definitely return!

We had the mushroom toast, pizzas, semla bun, and cardamom bun. Everything was delicious - as always! I love Soderberg. Everyone staff member we encountered was very nice, especially the lad with all the YSL jewelry and pearl necklace. Tables nicely spaced.

I usually go to their small Queensferry Rd. branch. They have a good selection of simple but tasty (Nordic style) patisserie. I like especially their buns, be they with cinnamon, walnuts, raspberries, blueberries...it's a feast. Coffee prices are extremely high for the quality though, so I prefer to take them home and prepare my own speciality coffee :-)

Heerlijk ontbijten tijden Edinburgh Festival op een rustige locatie. Dat kan!! Bij Soderberg Pavilion. We hadden gebakken eieren met avocado en pesto. Daarnaast heerlijke wortel/appel/gember sap en een top cappuccino. Bij het weggaan hebben we kaneel en kardemom buns meegenomen. Die zijn echt een must!!!

Vine aquí para pizza. Reputación era que estaría tranquilo. Como me acerqué al lugar había tarde veinte - algo skateboarders. Puerta estaba abierta debido a la humedad de la noche de Edimburgo. Llevé una mesa, reservado para dos. Al lado de nuestra mesa era una mesa grande con una docena o así de adolescentes reserva viajes para jóvenes del colegio. Eran ruidosos y como se espera de una tranquila charla algo difícil. Pedimos el partícipe de arranque. Queso (muy agradable), pan (agradable y crujiente), chorizo, aceitunas y pesto - como algunos bañándose de aceite. Todo bien. Excepto mi principal era pan basado también. Pizza con salmón. Inusual pero estupendo. Sin embargo, un poco básico. hecho competentemente Bebí agua con gas o bebidas sin alcohol cerveza. Los vasos estaban calientes del lavavajillas y otros comensales posteriores no eran cervezas de la nevera. Los muchachos adolescentes claramente no estábamos bebiendo el lugar seco así lugar le faltaba algo de planificación. Mi mesa no la habían limpiado correctamente con migas por todas partes. No estaba mal, pero no es lo suficientemente buena. Los precios eran los niveles de Edimburgo a pesar del ambiente rústico. Curioso que. Yo venga a la zona de nuevo, pero podría saltar una vuelta a Soderberg, a pesar de sus encantos.

Suena bastante simple. Pero cuando llegaron, tanto las tortillas estaban completamente unseasoned, sin sal, pimienta, no favorecen de ninguna especie. La mía tenía cristales de hielo, y yo acabamos comiendo alrededor del medio congelados. Limited lunch menu as it’s mainly pizzas which are just too much for me at lunchtime. Opted for the open sandwich which was fine but needed salt. No one came to check back & I didn’t want to leave my belongings by going up to the counter to ask for any. Portion size of open sandwich was small for £7. Too much balsamic vinegar on it too & when you rested your cutlery on the plate it got covered in sticky balsamic. Service was a bit hit & miss due to it being busy & maybe not enough staff working. Wouldn’t rush back.

Popped in needing food after a delayed flight. Quite delicious and interesting menu, not a huge amount of choice but didnt put us off. I had apple and brie pizza, and my guest charcuteria pizza, both freshly cooked and really good. Probably even better on a warm summer evening, cocktails in the square. Tucked away from the main attractions. Staff were polite, (thank you for my cream bun it was lush)

Super tasty pizzas and amazing starter. Always so friendly in here and don’t rush you even when it’s after closing time. The atmosphere is really relaxing and lovely and the menu gets an update regularly with different pizzas.

I'd agreed to meet a colleague for lunch ahead of a business meeting and opted for Soderbergs (the one in Lister Square as opposed to one of the other 2 Soderbergs close by). I'd visited one of the others recently and had been disappointed. This time things were much better - the staff were far more welcoming and went about their service with smiles. The lunch menu is fairly limited (pizzas, smorgas open sandwiches, salads or bakery) but the smoked salmon smorgas was excellent for a light lunch. The restaurant was very busy from time we arrived until we left and we noted it was still full as we walked past after our business meeting a few hours later, so the appeal is clearly evident. Much better experience than my previous visit to a sister Soderberg nearby.

What a great place, went with friends for Sunday breakfast. Staff lovely and food great, popular place too, well worth a visit.

A pesar de la gran pizza, este parecía una clase maestra de cómo no dirigir un restaurante. Hay unos cuantos restaurantes de éxito seguimiento básico un menú rápido y bebida, la entrega de la orden correcta, una ley precisa, servicio amable. 11am, by no means a full cafe but waited ages (12 mins-ish) for a simple cappuccino to be brought to the table. Eventually had to go up to counter. Lad was actually pouring it as I arrived but showed zero interest in the fact that I had an extended wait or had to come and get it.Such a shame when this kind of place, so strong on style and product, let themselves down so badly with down-in-the-mouth staff.

Recently had a lunch here with family. Generally the food was good. Though a limited selection everyone enjoyed what they had ordered. Service is a bit slow, especially on busy days like the one we were there. Pizza was quite good.

As a tourist in Edinburgh It was a bit weird to walk into a Swedish pizzeria, with islandic beer on offer, in the redevelopment area of Herriot Watt university, but it was a delight. The modern woodfore stone oven made great pizzas in more creative variants you'll find in Italian (or fake Italian) ones. The girls serving were very kind and in the modern transparent building the atmosphere is pleasantly Scandinavian and light. Prices are very reasonable for the quality offered. Recommended!

Had breakfast here over the weekend. Disappointing range of food and service not particularly good. Shame as it was recommended by a friend so maybe just an off day.

Ok, so the service is fairly laid back, but that's how i remember it in Scandinavia, so maybe it's part of the charm?The food is utterly amazing though - simple, fresh and delicious. Pizza's are a good shout, especially the one with sour cream, bacon and onion. Coffee is light and tasty and the mazarins are to die for - that said, grab a mazarin to go and indulge in the budapest cake when you are there - heaven on a plate.

After waiting 15 minutes or more , we had to ask to be served. We were given our pots of tea quite promptly however our order of 3 open sandwiches took another 15 minutes which consists of half a slice of rye bread with some smoked salmon and lots and lots of spinach leaves, The bill was £28 , which myself and the other 2 people I was with thought was overpriced for what it was and how long we had to wait , don't go unless you have plenty time and money to spare. One of my friends was on their lunch break and had to eat fast or ask for it to take away lol Will not be back .

Not many choices but that mud cake was worth it. The winter salad wasn't really a salad - mostly radicchio, with tons of cheese, and some pears.

This restaurant offers good food at a good price. Service is excellent. The place has its own bakery on the second floor. Food is prepared within site of the diners which adds a neighbourhood feel. Dined here a couple of times. Worth checking out.

We stopped at the Quartermile for a quick coffee and pastry mid morning. The simple modern design is great with lots of glass allowing the sun in. Very nice latte and excellent hot chocolate in a window seat. The moist fruit pastries were delicious.

I find it very difficult to find cinnamon buns that live up to those I have eaten in Stockholm but thankfully Soderberg's do just that. Tasty, fresh and great value.

Van het touristen pad af en een beetje verstopt vind je dit geweldige tentje. De inrichtig is heel stijlvol, bediening zeer vriendelijk en het eten is verrukkelijk met allemaal verse producten (probeer de pizza met zalm, ei en zure room). Een aanrader!

This was a pleasant find. Very nice lunch. Limited menu but nice fresh pizza (you can buy a half pizza as well for £6), and open sandwiches such as cheese or salmon. Nice range of fresh cakes. Service was efficient. Mid price range.

I absolutely loved this place!! My boyfriend brought me here for a breakfast date and if didn't disappoint! I found the prices pretty reasonable for what you get. I had the baked eggs with avocado and sourdough bread and it was incredible. Perfectly cooked and amazing fresh bread. The flat white was delicious and even though we were full after breakfast we had to share a cinnamon bun!! And oh my was it good!! Their attention to detail is adorable, different flavoured waters by the door, a basket of blankets forbid you sit outside. I just loved it, will definitely be back!!!

Tucked away in a building development complex you could miss it. The sleek friendly decor is a contrast to the older historic buildings around it. The food was excellent and the service quite good. Try one of the unique pizzas.

We did not feel welcome here-the girl serving was frosty and unhelpful. Food to eat in was served on paper bags, drinks in paper cups, knives were plastic. Coffee could have been hotter and the filled rolls nearly broke our teeth!!

Definitely worth going out of the centre to eat at the Lister Square pavilion... Friendly staff and fresh food at great prices. And it's a dilemma about what to take home! (Cinnamon buns, cookies, or vanilla/blueberry pastries...) Very child-friendly as well with high chairs and extras

I have tried to eat at Soderberg Cafe for a couple of years, originally their hours were very limited....even now, they are still limited - however, I was able to grab lunch and sit outside recently. The menu is a bit limited as well, but worth a visit. On my visit, I seriously wanted to have the pizza, it looked delicious, however, as I was alone, I didn't feel as if I could eat the entire thing! Instead I had the salmon/creme fraiche Smorrebrod (the open faced Danish sandwich) which was excellent! Service was prompt and efficient. My waitress informed me that they do serve smaller pizzas for brunch on the weekends.....oh well, next time!

Love the food from here, only ever get a take away as it doesn't scream out a natural place to stay for a long period as it's the shop floor and my young child would be running all over the place interupting customers.Some previous reviews have said expensive but your get what you pay for the breads and brownies are beautiful highly recommended to people who don't mind paying for a quality product.

I have been here twice and both visits were very nice. Good food, friendly staff and the inside looks so nice and cozy. I am definitely coming back!

We had some coffees sourdough pizza and waffles. All served outside by friendly staff. The waffle was just about perfect served with maple syrup and cream. Beautifully toasted and warm with great texture. Nice

Went here last weekend with group of friends. Nice outdoor sitting area,friendly staffs and good foods. Just need more variety choices on weekend menu though.

I quickly popped into the Söderberg on Queensferry Street, one of their smaller branches, and predominantly a bakery to buy &amp; take away rather than sit in. I had a bit of a craving for some lovely baked goods but wasn't looking for somewhere to stop for a long lingering breakfast, so this was the perfect choice.You're welcomed by the wonderful wafts of cinnamon &amp; cardamom with buns lined up in the window tempting you to try them. There's also a wider choice of cakes &amp; cookies on the counter, not to mention shelves full of beautiful loaves of bread, but my head had already been turned by the fragrantly spicy Kardemummabulle, a traditional Swedish cardamom bun. Together with an Americano I took one of the seats available to enjoy my breakfast whilst perusing my map of Edinburgh deciding where to head for next.I can imagine that if Söderberg was on your way to work, it would be far too tempting to pop in each day. It has a lovely calm ambience, friendly staff and made a wonderfully hygge start to my day.

Fine for take away, if pretty expensive. However it's a poor experience for eating on premises despite the tables. No plates, no proper cups, Uncleaned tables. Not great and quite at odds with the clean Scandinavian look they are otherwise going for.

Friday in August and could get a seat at 5:45pm. Not because there is anything wrong but because it's a bit difficult to find yet it's 2 minutes from both George Square and the BBC. Pizzas are large and filling and the cardamom hot chocolate is the best I've ever tasted.

We are here between shows while in Edinburgh for the Festival. The service was prompt and friendly, just what we needed. The pizzas arrived quickly and were very good and the house red wine was also good. It was ideal for us.

unusual but lovely place with great food and friendly staff. Very modern theme and great bakery. Pizza fresh and tasty, great coffee.
