Society Cafe Bar in Fife

Very disappointed as have been before and enjoyed a lovely meal when I went with friends. It would appear the menu has since changed, as has the service. Absolutely abysmal unfortunately. The food was inedible and the service extremely poor. It's a pity as the location is great and if you sit outside someone has made an effort with the lovely plants outside. Will not be back.

Average food, slow service. Advertised a family event but actually it was incredibly dark and loud and not really set up for kids. Advert said kids ate free and we were given menus, the waitress during ordering confirmed kids portions for two of the meals which were then charged as full adults. Apparently the kids eat free deal was a packed lunch box which wasn't made clear - maybe we should have checked so we accepted it but still thought charging adult price for a kids portion was out of order. Definitely wasn't worth the money and won't be back.

I attended the decadance event with my husband. When we booked our tickets we also booked a table for the two of us to have dinner. When it came to the time we had booked I asked who we should speak to about our table as we were unsure where to go due to it being so busy. I was told to speak to Colin. When I spoke to him I asked where we were to go as we had booked a table for dinner and he replied with “I don’t have any tables sorry” and tried to leave it at that. When I said we had booked the table in advance he replied with “that’s not my problem” and walked away. We went to the quieter side bar to see if we could speak to someone else about it as we got absolutely nowhere with Colin. We then met Sam who ran around trying to find us a table but was unsuccessful so she managed to pull one together for us next to the kitchen pass. The food was amazing and Sam is a credit to the team. We had a brilliant time at the event it’s just a shame the dining side of it wasn’t well planned out.

What a brilliant transformation, Society like you've never seen it! Whatever you remember of Society, or have heard about it in the past be ready to rethink it. The refurbishment and new chef are taking Society in a new direction and we like it. Still a few things to finish, however it's looking really great, we were greeted by Sam who then looked after us for the meal. Although we ate a week before the new menu was being launched the food was outstanding, fabulous flavours and well presented. Speed of the food and the level of service was so good, we sat at the table planning our next visit. Sam was a brilliant host and we can't wait to see this restaurant/venue go from strength to strength. I should have taken some pics, as none of them here showcase the work that's been done. The only reason it's not 5 out of 5 is due to the few outstanding bits of refurbishment, we will be back soon. Well done everyone...

Just been here today to try the Sunday roast as seen a post on social media. Well we were not disappointed, great plate of food and piping hot, choice of chicken or beef today, we had the chicken, loved every bit and I nearly licked my plate. Amazing value for money @ £9:95, great service too, very attentive, highly recommend and for sure will be back soon. Very soon!

This was our 1st visit and we had booked a table for lunch. On arrival, we were Impressed with the surroundings, very nicely done. My husband ordered the chilli prawns for starters and thoroughly enjoyed it. We both ordered the sea bass for mains and were told that it had been changed to salmon, but just hadn’t had an opportunity to update the menu. We went with it and were not disappointed. Beautiful presentation, salmon was chunky and cooked to perfection, served with nicely cooked vegetables. My husband had the apple crumble for dessert and again, really enjoyed it. With drinks, our bill came to £57, very reasonable. The service was very attentive. The only reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because the kitchen was a little slow as we had quite a wait for our mains. Other than that, we really enjoyed it and based on our experience today, would definitely visit again.

I was there with seven work colleagues for Xmas lunch. It was quiet, two other tables, a couple and a couple with a child. Drinks order taken, drinks arrive after 10mins. The order was taken. Thirty-five mins later, starters arrive, not all at once, 5mins delay for some. Mains arrive nearly 40mins later. Roast potatoes were hard and rubbery within and not hot, turkey cold. Staff were made aware at the bar and mash was brought out 10mins later, to late. When I asked the staff to speak the chef, no further communication was made until the bill was requested. Will not be returning

The food was abyssmal, Pork Loin chop so overcooked like shoe leather, cheap quality and unseasoned. Roast potatoes could be used as bullets. Unseasoned bland bland bland. Beautiful surroundings.

Avoid better places to go in Kirkcaldy. Dinner was lukewarm and waited ages for our dessert. Had a fall and hurt my knees but when the manager came wasn't interested and basically said we were old (I am 53!!) and that the step was there when it was a nightclub, it had never happened before so as he is catering for the older generation perhaps they should put a discerning strip to define it as a step. Was offered a free drink that was it and to record it but what was the point the man is clearly not interested in his customers. So my advice is to avoid it customer service is not good from the manager but staff are nice enough perhaps they should teach him how to be a professional.

First time since a good number of years ago that we went for lunch. Excellently done out and food and service was top notch. My only issue was I am vegetarian and the menu was very limited. Would be helpful also to have GF noted against menu. Recommend you give it a try.

Food was absolutely amazing starter fab had the chilli prawns my friend had the haddock goujons then I had the sea bass and she had pasta with chicken all food fabulous were given a free pudding of Apple crumble and custard which was to die for, staff were all amazing so attentive jasmine, the chef and the bar staff deffo be back, decor looking fab xxxx

We visited today at around 6 o’clock and the place was empty. We sat outside as it was sunny but we shouldn’t have bothered. We were given a menu that was a list printed on a bit of paper that was crumbled, there was no drinks menu at all so we asked if they did cocktails. We were told yes and given a small list by the waitress (who was fine), and ordered one each but when we were charged the total came to £23.50, for only two drinks! We went inside to see if we could see a menu with prices, only finding one tucked in at the tills but under the heading ‘cocktails’ it simply said, ‘ask your server for more information on the cocktails’. So beware, it is almost £12 for a cocktail when the price isn’t mentioned anywhere within the building or menu itself.

Came for lunch with my wife and after we coughed our way through the numerous staff members smoking at the front entrance we were seated by a very pleasant young woman (long black hair) who took our drink order right away and food order shortly after. We ordered ceaser salad with chips and chicken wings with loaded fries. Then the waiting game began. We were entertained by the elevator music (which was different to the music being shown on the TV screen) and watching the staff play on their phones, for 45 minutes!!!!! The restaurant had only 2 other couples in so wasn't that busy. When the food eventually came it was tasty enough, though you can't really go wrong with salad and chips, unless the salad costs £8.95 and only had 4 measly strips of chicken with it. Best thing about Society was the female server with the black hair. The rest of it............ Below average at best.

Not great choice of lunch food, over priced salad with so many chilies (menu said mild). Offered cheesecake, only to be told must have sold out day before and did we want ice cream(£1 a scoop). Sadly cannot recommend and will not return.

Very expensive, dirty toilets, can't make a cocktail, gin served without ice or garnish, food was microwaved at best. Staff are not trained and really should not be in customer service. Outside is the only pleasant part of Society, viewing from the outside. Obviously won't be back.

Looks the part from the outside, very inviting. Staff very pleasant, and helpful, surroundings OK, a bit on the shabby side on the outside and inside. Chose the steak pie, chips and peas from the menu and although quite tasty the portion of steak pie was miserably small. Not worth the money, even with the 20% discount that was applied. Unfortunately can't think of any reason to return.

I don't normally write things like this but after my experience here in Society on the 17th of july it is clear I will never be back!!!! 1. Not 1 person or member of staff (apart from myself) was wearing a mask while moving from table to bar or toilets etc. I might be wrong but I thought this was a must!!! Staff were mingling all the time, security had to man handle a few people, not once were people told they cant jump from table to table cos their pal fae primary was at the other table and they wanted to go talk to them!!! I thought the whole point of having rules set in place for covid was so we didn't spread it round but clearly those rules don't apply here and Society must be exempt from these rules!!! 2.We had deliberately booked a table so we knew we would be seated but that was OK as we had 2 designated people to go get the drinks. On arrival for some reasons our table had been given away and was told we had to wait over 30 minutes before it was available!!!! Eh no that's not how it works I'm afraid if you know you have a booking for a certain time it should be ready for that time not when it suits the staff!! When we were eventually seated it was clearly not the table ment for us and it was just a quick fix to keep us quiet!!! 3. The attitude on some of the bar staff was ridiculous. After being given a pitcher of "anti vemon" ( I use this lightly as it was just clearly fruit juice and a lot of ice) we went back for a 2nd one for our table to be told there were none left, which we accepted and got some other drink instead. I ordered a long vodka and the look of confusion on the bar person's was questionable so I explained what was in it to only be snapped at and a whole lot of attitude was given to me! I apologised as I was only trying to help as he looked like he wasn't sure what went into it, to be told he knew what he was doing and didn't need to be told how to do his job ( I have over 15 years bar work experience) I'm actually really disappointed as Society used to be the place to go in kirkcaldy but its clearly not now and its just utter chaos with no rules to keep customers or staff safe Oh and if you try to send them a private message through messenger they will just ignore you!!! Great way to run a business guys!!.

I can’t see this place lasting long under the present ownership /management. Booked a outside table for 4 and when we turned up we had to wait at the entrance for 10 minutes before we were shown to a table. Important to note this was not a busy time - pretty quiet really. Waitress wanted to seat us under the shade and as it was a nice day we had asked for an outdoor table. She eventually showed us to a table which had not been cleared and expected us to just sit down with the plates all still on the table. The waitress cleared the table and after we sat down it was a good 15 minutes before we attracted someone’s attention and got a drink. The drinks when served were pretty poor, a g+t in a shot glass with1 lump of ice and no lemon or lime? In all we were there for 2 hours and had 2 drinks. Normally we would have easily had 4 rounds in that time but the service was slow to non existent. If I owned or managed this place I would be going back to basics on service - p*ss poor doesn’t adequately describe it. I certainly won’t rush back.

Food was terrible, the chilli on the chips would benefit from being flavourless as it tasted like dog food. When I complained it was replaced with undercooked chips without anything close to an apology. The chicken pakora ‘bucket’ was barely a starter despite its price tag. Adding insult to injury, the 2.5l pitcher is closer to 2.25l despite being no cheaper than individual pints and a drink, despite having claiming otherwise, was taken from the table when it was unfinished. I might come back for a drink but never again for food, disappointment doesn’t even begin to cover my feelings.

Went for dinner with friends, booked in advance. It asked for you to wait at the entrance to be seated, we waited a good 5/10 mins then had to go searching for someone. We were seated at a table that had not been wiped and had to ask for menus. We were then told we had to go inside to order at the bar (which I am sure is not allowed with COVID rules) Took ages to be served inside and no staff were wearing face coverings. When the food eventually arrived, it was very poor. One dish was meant to have Gouda cheese and only had cheddar. And another dish was meant to have mozzarella and maple syrup and they just decided not to put them on the dish. No staff were present outside at all so nobody to complain too. Piss poor service, do not recommend at all.

Day out on Saturday, June 5th nothing was pleasant about this experience. The food was cold and awful, had to be sent back after already waiting well over an hour. Not a single staff member was following covid regulations and were therefore putting customers at risk. When challenged apparently every single member of staff was apparently exempt. The only word I could use to describe the bouncers was thugs. There were two couples sitting near our table, and when one of the men challenged the bouncers about being heavy handed with young boys he was kicked off his chair and marched out the pub with his hands up his back. Also I from this point on will not allow my daughters to frequent this establishment because of the way the bouncers were luring on and treating young girls. Overall the behaviour of the bouncers was completely inappropriate. Not sure what the role of the bouncers is supposed to be, but I would guess it was not to harass and assault paying customers.

The bouncer harassed a member of our party. For a 6,4 man in his 40’s this was not only embarrassing for him, but for us who were only wanting to enjoy a day out.

Visited with a group of work colleagues for a planned day out, having arranged weeks in advance and paid deposits. On arrival we were show to 3 tables, all under the canopy. It was really bad weather, but that’s not Society’s fault. After serving 2 rounds of drinks, a member of staff approached us with a clipboard to say she was expecting “600 people” that day, and we were sat at the wrong tables. She pointed to two soaking wet tables, uncovered, and insisted we move. Given we’d bought two rounds of drinks and had paid £90 in deposits to secure the tables weeks in advance, it seemed madness to move to sit in the rain. Another member of our party arrived and asked to order a drink, but was told “no” and the bar staff scurried away. Myself and colleague asked to speak to the Manager, and he did try to sort the awful situation. 3 bouncers then arrived, arms folded, telling us we’d broken the rules and had to leave. How humiliating, a group of grown adults, having only had maximum of two pints each. We were told they’d viewed CCTV footage of us breaking rules and moving from the wet tables (which clearly nobody had/or wanted to sit at). Thankfully, after leaving the venue we were reassured by a member of the security team called in to remove us that they have no access to CCTV and that was just to threaten us. We did vacate the table, I must add, as the 3 men intimidating a group of colleagues the nation used to clap for every Thursday was just too much and we weren’t wanting to protest. Better to just head home. Important to mention that we did challenge the staff that they didn’t sanitise the table we had ‘so wrongly’ sat at before the next party were seated there. It seems it’s one rule for paying punters; and whatever the staff fancy obeying on the day. Hugely disappointed, and a clear lack of communication between all staff on the day. One nice chap came over and asked if we wanted to order drinks; embarrassingly we had to tell him we’d been asked to leave and were drinking up! Seems from multiple other reviews of this venue and The Stag Inn at Falkland (same company) that we aren’t the only ones to have been treated unfairly.

Arrived at 1:30 and ordered food from the bbq menu. Came to about 3:30 and questioned where the food was and we were told the chef had binned our order as we had apparently ordered from the wrong menu - we hadn’t. Two of our party actually left to get food elsewhere as we waited so long. The food then arrived at 4:30 which was freezing, no cutlery was provided either. The chips were still frozen and the chicken was still pink in the middle. Felt sorry for the staff who were clearly understaffed and underpaid - there seemed to be only 1 person on the bar and 3-4 serving. Drinks took 30-35 mins to arrive at the table. Was a let down due to the fact we were a party of 6 spending £50+ each round and were left waiting for ages. The women’s toilets were overflowing and the whole floor was flooded so we had to use the tipsy cow toilets. Didn’t catch the guys name who served us but he couldn’t have been any nicer - he agreed that the place was a shambles and gave us a round of drinks for free for the hassle.

This place will put us all back into lockdown, allowing large groups to mix, toilets filthy, no masks

Treated my mother to lunch and was very impressed. Loads of outside seating with heat lamps and wee on table fires to keep you warm whilst enjoying a pint during the current restrictions. Sat inside as was driving so pint this time and was pleased with the Covid management. Everything felt clean & safe. I opted for the £5 lunch deal, a mug of soup and a hot Cajun chicken wrap. Great value and both very tasty. Mum had sweet chilli chicken noodles, which looked amazing. The girls working were very attentive and friendly, sorry I didn’t catch their names. Can’t wait to return when the place is firing on all cylinders again.

I visited Society with 2 of my friends and the staff Matt and Joe couldn’t do enough for us and nothing was too much bother. The food was fantastic, they even went out of their way to make us a special that had been on a couple of weeks previously after I showed them a photo my friend had sent me when she visited. Overall great service and great food.

I must have eaten in a different place to other people reviewing this place.We had a haggis starter and sweet chilly noodles as well as tacos with mac and cheese.The haggis was tasteless and came with a very sour chilly sauce.The mains, well the mac and cheese tacos were very stodgy and not particularly that tasty.The chilly noodles were probably the best of the bunch they were tasty but you need to like chilly as it was very spicy.Definetly not worth what they are charging, all served in a cardboard box with wooden knife and fork.I think they should stick to being a nightclub.We certainly won't be back.

We spotted the lovely building and outdoor seating and looked forward to a pleasant outdoor late lunch. What we got instead was an embarrassing experience of a place that is run like a nightclub in the middle of the afternoon.The outdoor seating was 2/3 empty when we asked to be seated at a normal table, of which there were several open. Instead we were sat at a high-chair table that was uncomfortable, and we were assured that all the regular tables were booked and would be full within an hour. We asked again after we were seated, and we were again refused a normal height table. We were then asked to pay in advance, assured this was normal policy for table service due to many customers "doing a runner".When we left at 3:30pm, an hour later, the open tables were still open, the place was still 2/3 empty. However, we did notice there was a bouncer working the door at that time of the afternoon. I think this place is a nightclub masquerading as a cafe, and the management is focused on controlling unruly customers, not pleasing ones who want to sit in a normal chair or other reasonable requests.The food was mediocre and came several minutes apart for my friend and myself. It was served in paper and plastic. A drink order was forgotten.

Excellent visit under the current covid circumstances. Great social distancing measures in place. Alex was very attentive and the whole team showed great customer service. Food was delicious, the chocolate brownies were a hit with the whole table.

Dirty tables, sticky floor, Three less than average meals served to us in cardboard boxes at restaurant prices. Never once got approached to ask if everything was okay. We couldn't speak to each other as we couldn't hear due to a blender constantly being used at the bar. At times like this, this place certainly didn't feel clean enough or safe. Will not be back!! Stay away

Went here with my hubby and daughter today for lunch, I got salt and pepper chicken. My husband had chicken on a burger with chips and my daughter had nachos with cheese.we also had a desert. All were tasty, decent portions and great value!The servers were great, very polite and helpful. They checked on us regular to make sure all was OK. All in all was a fab meal. Thank you

It was so bad that we actually had to laugh about it . When we arrived a sign says please wait till the host shows you to your seats . We did wait for about 15 min. No one came . So we decided to make our way in ourselves. We tried this place first time and the signs I though been very confusing . Took us a wee while to actually find any staff. When we finally did we been shown our table from a member of staff who couldn’t be bothered wearing a mask which as this time I found ridiculous. The table was dirty and sticky so was the floor . We got given menus I couldn’t touch they been so dirty . Something was sticking to it too. So we ask to clean the table and for clean menus .! The way the table was cleaned again very unprofessional. No one took any details from us which again is mandatory in pubs and bars just now.! We choose some drinks which one of them they didn’t have . Not a problem I thought and ordered a different drink.! After 20 min the drinks arrived. I wouldn’t mind waiting if it’s busy but the place was actually very quiet. Then we decided to order our food. Easy 2 burger but just to find out they run out of beef burgers .! For a small menu like this that shouldn’t happen . If I wouldn’t have been that hungry by that point I would have left. Anyhow we ordered chicken burger . As we finished our drinks we tried to order more but the waitress rather been on her phone in front of the bar instead serving.! After 1 hour waiting for food and more drinks I had to get up going to the bar and ask if they still serving drinks and to check on our food . The food then arrived ice cold . My partner couldn’t eat her chicken on the burger because it was so overcooked and dry. We decided to leave . On that note I have to say this was supposed to be our wedding day but we had to move it because of Covid . We moved not that long to this area and this place looked nice from the outsides we decide to try it . When I booked I actually said it’s also our 3 year Anniversary. I‘m working now for 28 years in hospitality and never seen such a disgraceful place like this. I will pass all this on to the government because I think this place needs to get shut down.

Came with my mother and partner, we were all excited to try the street food, whole experience was a disaster start to finish. Table was not clean as we sat down, and while sitting the waitress gave a feeble wipe. Given the Covid19 pandemic this was not up to scratch. Took over 40 mins to take our order, had to ask twice for glasses to be cleared. Food: salad was warm with no dressing and my mum's pork was too cold and hard to eat. I'm not sure how you can burn pitta and think it's ok to serve. My partner asked for salt twice, by the time they came my mother and I had long finished our meal and my partners food was cold. Waitress didn't check on us once and when I tried to raise concerns she disappeared. Toilets were absolutely diabolical, toilet roll everywhere, broken toilet seats, no staff had masks on and the cherry on top was I then witnessed a waitress sneeze without covering her mouth and she proceeded to pick up glasses as I was leaving.. not something that is acceptable never mind we are still in a pandemic. Ended up at a local chippy afterwards. I won't be back and I would honestly suggest booking somewhere elsewhere as the whole experience was awful.The hygiene levels are a real cause for concern.

Came here tonight with family to support a local business. To wait 30 mins for our starter and then a further 1hour for our mains they still weren’t anywhere to be seen. We asked where they were, we then had to wait another 30 mins as they hadn’t even been cooked! To be told that they had made a mistake with our order and it wasn’t on the computer. The management didn’t really seem bothered! We were told we received 50% of the bill which we were entitled to anyway as it’s on the Eat Out Scheme! We were in the restaurant for 2.5 hours to then basically feel like they didn’t care. We were offered a soft drink as an apology! This is appalling! I will not be back!

Very impressed by the food, waiting time was good for the mains but the pudding took a while to come out, very pricey and not large portions, friendly staff and lovely atmosphere

Out for a few drinks and decide to have something to eat. Very overpriced for what you get. Do not order portion of chips as it is expensive and very small. Eating finger food but no napkins, very messy, luckily had had wipes in handbag. Bar man very rude to my daughter when she wanted to order cocktails. Extensive cocktail menu but lots of the ingredients missing so couldn't be ordered. Good beer garden and one way system for loos.

This must be one of the best outside eating venues in fife. Set in an attractive garden with lots of greenery & flowers .Complying to the Covid regulations , meet & greet with sanitiser before being shown to a table . Staff are lovely . The manager has everything running like clockwork . Richard one of the waiters makes you feel welcome . Doesn't open till eleven a.m in morning , unfortunately food doesn't start till 12pm.. There's no problem getting a table but gets really busy afternoons & evenings .

At a private function here recently - I was greatly impressed. It was a sensitive and important occasion involving friends and family and great care had been taken with the presentation of the area we used. A hot and cold buffet was provided - delicious and of good variety. The serving tables were frequently replenished ensuring that everyone was satisfied.I cannot speak too highly of the staff who were attentive and discreet.It is the first time that my family has used this location. It won't be the last.Thank you, Society.

Decided to go here due to the fact that it is 1 of the few places in Kirkcaldy that you can actually sit outside, it was a beautiful day so wanted to make the most of the weather!! Went inside to order,place has recently been decorated! Perhaps they should of 'stocked up' instead of buying paint! We decided to have a bite to eat, they should of told us what they did actually have before telling us an endless list of what they didn't!! When it came to our drinks order pretty much the same...only 1 type of White Wine....only 1 type of Tonic Water!! They do have a good selection of Gins but that's it! We had to then go outside taking our own cutlery with us! Then our Nachos arrived.....very burnt on top and was more like they had just chucked a packet in and a 'sprinkling' of cheese on top, no cheese underneath!! I have eaten here before several times with no complaints at all about the food, will be a long time before I go back!!

1member of staff....not interested...had to go and ask for menus....told of all foods unavailable while handing them out.....no vegetarian options (really? In this day and age) girl looked dumbstruck when we chose to go elsewhere.....will certainly not be back...

Sat outside for a glass of wine as lovely day. Went in to restaurant for lunch, decor very nice and staff veryhelpful especially Jaid who could not do enough for us. Both ordered sea bass which was well presented and really lovely. In all a great meal and great venue will definitely be back, well done to all staff.

£7 to get in to this horrible place. Full of underagers and honestly just the dregs of ‘society’. Never going back, worst place in Kirkcaldy at least. Put it this way, kitty’s sounds better and i’m in my thirties. So basically, avoid this place like the plague, it’s horrible..

If you are in the area and in need of refreshments then this i would definitely recommend. Friendly and helpful staff. You wont be disappointed

We've been there to eat something in a sunny spring day. We sat outside, at the wooden tables. Nice place to drink something or eating, very close to the city centre, 2 minutes walking. There are tables outside and it's quite big inside. The food is ok, well presented, tasty. The staff is nice and friendly but there was just a girl at the bar so everything we needed we had to walk inside. To try, especially in a sunny day.

First time we’ve ever been here. Decided to go for a bar lunch and as it was very cold and windy this was nearest to the carpark. First impression needing a lot of TLC. Seats with big rips in them and freezing cold. Sat with my coat on for a bit. The chap serving was very good and attentive. We both had fish and chips. OMG the fish was excellent. It’s over 12 years since we moved here and this is the best Fish and chips I’ve tasted since moving. The batter was delicious and the chunky chips! Very generous helping and didn’t have anything else to eat until breakfast on Sunday was so filling. Menu perhaps to some not very big but the food we had was excellent. Felt sorry for the young man working there he must’ve been freezing

I don't know where to begin. It was our works Xmas night Out! A catalogue of errors. Firstly, we were given the wrong set menu. Then when they realised their error just swapped the dish to trace the one ordered without informing the whole party. Very confused when the food arrived. I ordered soup. Told waitress I didn't have a soup spoon to be told to use dessert spoon and they would replace it! Surprise surprise, They didnt! When dessert came I had to ask for a spoon and waited 5 minutes only to be brought a soup spoon! You couldn't write it. The (only) Veggie dish option which was changed from Ginoccgi to Taglitellie at the last minute was at best Pesto with pasta added for effect. Everyone at table who tried said it was more pesto than pasta. Disaster throughout. I don't blame the waiters and waitresses, I blame had management, not training staff to know soup from desert spoons for a start! Also dessert was like the banana brownie was stale old cake. Solid to cut into. Shocking. I did not enjoy eating there and We (approx 26 of us) will definitely not be back,

Went here for my friends leaving party , could of been a bit more choice on menus , but what I got to eat was good and reasonably priced only complaint would be starter could of been hotter.

We were down Kirkcaldy High Street and fancied a bar lunch in a place we had not tried before and as we were parked in the multi story carpark on Thistle street we decided on Society. We have walked past this place hundreds of time but never been in. (In fact I think the last time I was here was when it was Oscars night club). Anyway we walked in and were surprised to see we were the only diners in (this was just after 12 noon). The barman told us to take a seat and came over and took our drinks order, then we ordered our food. I went for the fish and chips my wife went for the chicken and chorizo penne pasta. A short time later out came our food the pasta tasted good and was a nice sized portion. The fish was cooked perfectly and the chips HALLELUYAA! were proper hand cut chips, a wee bit underdone, but top marks to the chef for taking the time and effort to serve up proper chips, not frozen rubbish that a lot of other establishment try and get away with. It was served in a small metal bucket which some people might find a bit fiddly but overall a very good meal. The servers were polite well presented and prompt. If you are in the area give Society a try.

Lovely building, tastefully decorated, attentive staff, clean toilets, fantastic outside area on a sunny day, drawback this place can be pricey.

Bien impresionado por la comida y el personal. Tenía un vale para 2 campos y itison oh mi dios no escatiman en el tamaño de la porción con personas que usan cupones como en otros lugares. Pedimos una porción lateral de nachos y viene en un cubo de metal tipo gran cosa, sabía increíble! ! Lo recomiendo encarecidamente. No es una gran zona para comer, pero es lo suficientemente grande para que el personal puede ser atenta y no pensaré de mesa a mesa, tamaño perfecto.

I was at an evening which was laid on for staff from schools to celebrate the end of term. We had a lovely seating area near the bar and there was a free hot buffet which was indeed steaming hot and extremely tasty. I sampled the pork with parsnip and apple and also the vegetable thai curry. The bottles of wine were reasonably priced and the bramble cocktail and French martini cocktails were delicious!! We all had a really good time and we were made to feel very welcome by the waiting staff.

As far as society goes if you want the good life then best avoid this one.Not a member of staff welcomes you as you arrive. Menu is complicated and very pricey. Drinks are ordered at the table that tend to take forever. Food waiting time is out of order and even then you'll wonder why you bothered. Staffs mannerism is often aggressive and sarcastic (bang goes the tip) so much so they can't be bothered bringing your bill to the table.High Society, I think not.Scott Rolland

Booked 40th birthday through manager Lynn in the restaurant area of Society. Paid the expensive prices for the buffet (which was disappointing for the money). I had organised for a few guests who live in Kirkcaldy to put up decorations before we arrived but when they arrived there was people in our area still having meals and no record of our booking. I had to call the place on my way and speak to the owner who said he would never have authorised a booking in the restaurant so close to Christmas. I told him I had all the evidence. He looked at the emails himself and luckily they had a cancellation for the upstairs area so we were put there (which we were told we had for the whole evening). We had no music, after asking we were given a boom box and asked to use our own phones for playlists, the food came out too early and was cold. The bar staff were untrained and couldn't make cocktails. I was grateful we had an area but this shouldn't have happened. The thing that disappoints me most is that I have made a complaint which asked for an explanation and it has gone unanswered. I amDisgusted with the treatment and the fact that the MANAGER and OWNER don't have a clue what each other are doing ! I dont advise going here under any circumstance!

Society is a great place to go if you want a night out with friends or a bite to eat. Although the menu is a bit posh for me now, I like my pub grubb. Food was nice but there wasn't enough. If you want a night out with friends in Kirkcaldy then this is the place to go.. always very busy and have lovely drinks. Also in the summer the outside seating is lovely.

Wasn't sure what to expect but we had a great time the young man( Robert) telling us about the gin s was very knowledgeable and patient with his audience. The gin s tasted fantastic and his explanation s of how various gin s are made was great. Fantastic value for money 5 different gin s tried and a cocktail to finish.

My wife and I had a quite an amazing lunch, washed down with cold drinks on a rare hot summers day in Kirkcaldy in the outside seating area. Really glad to see the place re-open after shutting recently.Staff were amazing, even made up a requested cocktail for my wife and her auntie.Highly recommend this place and will visit again.

The service is good and the staff are friendly, and it is a beautiful place, however the pints are awful. Last week I paid £4 for a pint of Heverlee which was off, disgusting. I told the staff member but put it down to a one off. I went back in yesterday and bought another pint of Heverlee, expecting the problem to have been sorted. Again it was disgusting. I then switched and ordered a pint of Peroni, but again it tasted awful. Again we informed the staff but nothing seemed to be done about it.Either the pipes aren't being cleaned or they aren't being cleaned properly. I think at the price they charge, someone should be finding a solution to this problem.Has anyone else experienced this problem???

Went out for a meal with my husband and can honestly say it was fantastic. The staff are an absolute credit to the place. So lovely and friendly. The food was exceptional. Cannot fault it one little bit. Will Defo be back again. Thank you so much x

I had made a booking on the 9th of June for cocktail making for myself and 15 of my friends for my 50th birthday for Saturday 20th August. I called back to check if I needed to pay a deposit and was told the manager was on holiday and I would get a call on the Monday from the manager. Still no call so I phoned on two occasions and was told was I was definitely booked and I would get a call back. Another week went by and I called and managed to speak to the manager to say I wanted to pay a deposit. I was then told I wasn't even booked in 3 weeks before we were due to go. Eamon I spoke to was very sorry and I was gutted. He did say he would do a deal if I wanted to go for a meal and did try and see if he could fit me in as they were fully booked on the day I required but I was so disappointed that I didn't even want him to try. We thought we would do this in Kirkcaldy instead of Edinburgh and keep local. I've been to society several times and enjoyed it but they need to improve the way events are booked. Now trying to find a new venue for me and my friends.

Nice place, and excellent to sit outside in the sun...but service was a bit lax !Decent menu and decent prices...but we had wrong main course brought to us. This was after telling the barman everything twice in ordering ! It was simple...two meals and two drinks! But had to say it twice and still got wrong meal !Very apologetic...food was ok on arrival...bit slow and disjointed in offering sauces and them then arriving at table !Nice place....would recommend...maybe it was just an off day for the staff...you just expect full attention don't you ?

Been here when it was the last society and was awful. Visited for the first time today under the new management / ownership. Fabulous. Went for a glass of wine, ended up with wine , meal,cocktails and coffees all of which were superb. Robert provided first class service. He is a credit to the company. We have booked a staff day out next week. Can't wait to go back. Keep up the good work.

One of the more attractive places to go in Kirkcaldy. Nice to sit inside or outside on a sunny day. Food is typical pub grub but very average. I have eaten here a good few times in the hope it would improve but food is just average. I hope under the new management they will address this as it is a lovely place.

Love this place. Food is always delicious. The steak is my favourite and usually have it everyone I visit.Excellent range of drinks including cocktails.Late night dancing hotspot at the weekends and the banter is fantastic.

Recently attended a birthday night out, poorly organised, meal took 3 hours (2 courses). Had to ask a number of times when cocktail making was happening.... Nothing to write home about. Confusion as to where we would be seated with little or no communication.

Had a great time at society for my sisters hen party we had a cocktail making class in the lounge. Kieran our barman was fantastic, cocktails were great and it was well worth the money. We also had a buffet which was brilliant, food was hot and fresh and really tasty. I booked through Leigh and she was really helpful from the start. I would thoroughly recommend society for a function absolutely fantastic!!

Amazing breakfast, reasonable price, cooked very well, fantastic staff, friendly and polite. What service should be like.

At one of the. Kat expensive times of the year they don't give their usual 20%discount off food for NHS staff, shame on you Society Bar!

I visited Society on 12th December for a Christmas meal with colleagues for our Christmas night out and frankly I was very disappointed, with service being the main issue. Mainly I felt like the staff were running around like headless chickens and didn't seem to be doing very much at all. We ordered a round of drinks at the table just after our starters and we were still waiting on those drinks after our main course. Every time I looked up at the bar area, yes it was busy but with people walking away with drinks in under a few minutes while we sat eating our main without any drinks. We then had to highlight this to the bar staff who didn't seem to have any clue that we had ordered drinks or what table they were supposed to be coming to. When they eventually came we ended up getting that round for free which was very nice. This was courtesy of the manager I believe, who was lovely but I didn't catch her name. We then waited around 45 minutes for our dessert and it just seemed like we had been completely forgotten about as other tables were getting waited on regularly and asked if everything was ok when no one had came to us at all. After dessert came it was around 10pm and we were now the only table plonked in the middle of the dance floor as when the previous tables had left they started clearing them and folding them away. I felt very aware and uncomfortable that we didn't get asked to politely move to another area so they can clear up. Overall I was disappointed at how disorganised the whole night was and we also never got offered any tea or coffee at the end of the meal which is part of the menu.

The event was for Charity where 30 plus like minded individuals were given the free run off one of Society’s High Quality VIP Lounges. From the beginning friendly staff went out their way to ensure the event was a total success. Society’s attention to detail from the excellent buffet, high quality personal service within our own private VIP lounge was a massive hit with everyone. A must whether for Work, Business, Charity and/or other Social Events. Society even provides access to their separate night club.

I visited Society last weekend and was immediately impressed by the beautiful decor and cleanliness.The staff were very friendly and knowledgable and the food was delicious.The bar/restaurant provided an excellentllent menu with a wide variety of choice.With three bars, a dance floor and lots of comfortable seating areas, Society is a must for parties, weddings and conferences.

We recently visited Society Cafe Bar in Kirkcaldy for lunch and were really impressed by the lovely décor and helpful friendly staff. The menu had a good range of dishes and the food was delicious and well presented. A very relaxing and enjoyable experience. We will definitely be back.

We pre booked our food before hand as we only had an hour for lunch. The food was lovely. Such lovely clean surroundings with nice staff. Would recommend for food.Menu online was outdated, so they need to change that.

We went to Society on a thursday afternoon to celebrate our son's wedding. It was a party of about 15 people. The staff were a bit slow to take our order for meals - we had to chase them up. That apart, everything else was fine. We had a room upstairs to ourselves which was nicely decorated and had a good ambience. Once the food arrived, it was nicely cooked and presented and was very appetising. Everyone was able to relax and the afternoon was enjoyed by all.

I was back at Society about a week ago (Saturday night), having been there six weeks prior to that.This time I had the garlic mushrooms on focaccia bread: that was very nice and there were plenty of mushrooms. I would have that again.I then had the beef burger for my main course. The burger itself was quite big but it was too dry and there was no relish/sauce; the whole thing felt really dry and hard to swallow. There were 2 large onion rings in this which I removed and ate separately as the whole thing was a bit of a tower!My dessert was the sticky toffee pudding which I had had the last time and it wasn't as nice, a bit chewy like it had been re-heated.When I went to the bar to get a drink, I asked for a fresh orange and lemonade (this was my second one of the evening, my first one cost me £1.10). I don't know what the guy put in the glass but it wasn't fresh orange...tasted more like cheap diluting juice and this time it was £1.50??So not as happy with my second meal at Society.

I am a regular customer to this establishment and based on my last excellent meal I decided to reorder the same .I ordered a Large Haddock and Chips for two.When it was delivered we were both shocked and I wish I had had a photo to share with you ! Rather than being on a plate- the meal was delivered on a wooden platter with the haddock and chips placed in a metal chip fryer complete with handle !!! I requested a plate as this scenario was ridiculous I also pointed out there was no salad or lemon, and was advised they had a new menu and new chef. The management have obviously sanctioned these changes - why change something which works ? Our meal was below average and I am sorry, your Head Chef needs to address the needs of the customer. Thank you.

Tried this on the recommendation of my cousin and was a bit disappointed. No atmosphere as only two couples in and no background music Food was at best average quality but served in reasonable time and at reasonable cost. Probably not be back as we know far better in the area.

A group of over 20 of us were booked for a Saturday night dinner. Two courses for £13 or 3 courses for £16, very reasonable. Personally I had a large fresh orange and lemonade from the bar and that was £1.90, again I thought that was good value.My food was: goat cheese & spring onion tart, chicken fajitas and sticky toffee pudding. The starter was light and really tasty, small enough not to full me up already. The main course was served on two separate plates, with the chicken, onions and peppers still sizzling in the super hot iron dish! The quantity of chicken was more than enough to generously fill the two tortillas. The serving of grated cheese was also more than ample - very happy with my main course. The seasoning was spicy without being burny (i'm not a spicy food person).The sticky toffee pudding was generous as well; my only negative comment is that I thought it was a bit bread-like.We were also supplied with some jugs of cold water with ice and lemon slices as well as a complimentary drink (because we were a group?). I think this was Cava, which I like. There was enough staff on hand to quickly serve all of us.This was my first time at Society and I'm very happy with the food, service and prices. I would gladly go back!

Needed to have a late lunch about 3.00pm midweek so visited Society Cafe Bar in Kirkcaldy. Sat outside which was pleasant enough. It was very quiet but that's Kirkcaldy for you mid week. We both had the fish and chips which arrived piping hot and looking very edible served by a very pleasant waitress. The fish was very good and the chips were not bad either. It was served with a serving of peas and a side salad. Both our plates were cleaned to the disgust and disappointment of a lingering sea gull. I would have this again.

My husband and I popped in here last night around 7pm for something to eat. We had been staying in Dundee the night before and decided to do a bit of touring about. We did not know Kirkcaldy but parked in a car park nearby and walked a short distance and found the society café bar. The bar was not busy when we entered but there was only one member of staff in attendance. Don't get me wrong she was doing a good job with people coming to the bar for drinks and also having to take food orders at the table. We did wait 35 minutes for food for which the waitress apologised for and as I say she was doing her best. The food itself was good so no complaints there. Nice atmosphere nice surroundings but maybe more staff needed.

Myself and my fiancé recently visited Society for a lovely meal n few drinks in the sun. The food took some time to come out but we were in no hurry as we were enjoying sitting outside in the beer garden on a rare sunny afternoon. The young girl serving was very friendly and polite and we were made to feel very welcome. After receiving our food we found it to be absolutely delicious. We are looking forward to visiting again for some yummy food and drinks and hopefully on a nice day as it is such a lovely place to sit outside in the sunshine.

Inside looks great, very modern, but the food, it isn't great. Drinks are expensive, music is a tad loud when dining. Now, the bit I dislike strongly about Society is, you're still eating when it's turning into a night club. So people are getting drunk whilst you're eating. Not a child friendly place.

Went with a large group. The soup was near inedible and we weren't even sure what it was meant to be. Chicken burger was awful. Draft juice was flat and tasted chemically. Others had a good meal but some did not. Pretty inconsistent.

We feel that the service within this establishment has completely dropped . All new staff and the food isn't as good as it was

Society is always consistent with quality, freshly made food and they offer it at fantastic value for money. Had the mediterranean roasted vegetables on a flatbread which was delicious. Thanks again.

Ordered the Haddock main meal for £7.95, which was delivered promptly with a smile and very professional attitude from the waitress.The food was well presented on the plate and very tasty.Bar staff were well trained .

Came here for a little family lunch, not often we some one on one time with our son so he chose where he wanted to go. We have been before and it was ok. I ordered the vegetarian chilli, in reality it was rice with tortilla and vegetables in a tin of chopped tomatoes. It looked nice however when eating it some was hot and some was stone cold. It was really put me off eating it. I called the waitress over to mention to her (presumed it was just microwaved) she offered to take it away however I didn't actually have time to wait on another being brought or them heating it back up. We had to be somewhere and I was very hungry. The girl said she would mention it to the chef and adjust the bill accordingly. I ate the tortilla and the rice parts of the veg that were actually got. It wasn't as spicy as I thought. My hubby had the Mac and cheese and enjoyed it. My son had a kids slider burger and in his words said "he's had better". To be fair the kids burger was a pathetic excuse for a burger. When the lady brought the bill she said that there was an offer on (which we were not aware of, and wasn't advertised) but apparently you get 2 mains for £11.95. She has "kindly" taken 10% off the bill as we had this so called offer. Now the 2 main courses we had were around £6 each so we were saving 5p! I was not happy about the 10% off as my dinner was partially stone cold. As there was nobody to be seen to mention this my husband just paid and left. However I was not happy and have emailed the manager because I don't think a 10% off something that wasn't cooked properly was the correct thing. I don't mind paying for food if it's good.
