The soups are all home made and to die for. Backed potatoes are great with skin only complain is stronger cheese is needed ro give it flavour.

Popped in on passing for a Quick lunch today. Has soup and jacket potato and both were very tasty. Quick, friendly service and the cafe was clean, bright and warm. Noticed Gluten Free and Vegan options too which was great.

Excellent sandwiches, jacket potatoes, cakes and pastries. The money they make goes to help homeless people, which is obviously brilliant.

Went to local Social Bite today at 9:45am to buy several lunches for a client meeting. Sign on door saying Team Meeting til 10am- nipped to Pret for a cuppa and came back just after 10am. Someone from inside then came & opened door & said sorry meeting was now until 10:30am. Came back to office and then went back at 11:15am to see sign had then been amended to 11am then 11:30am, with door unlocked this time. Staff no longer sitting round table as previously where. Popped head in to hear deafening music and no staff around. Finally a young man appeared who shouted over loud music sorry team meeting still going on not sure when we will open !! Really ??? Sorry i thought this was a customer serving cafe - so all breakfast and passing early lunch trade had been missed. Trying to support a great & local cause but sadly couldn't today. Surely team meetings are held out with cafe opening hours so you can actually serve paying customers. Went to Pret which was quiet and spent £50 there instead and got friendly service ! Come on Social bite you need to sort that out. Has put me off going again as not reliable !

We stayed for an overnight in Edinburgh and were looking for a spot of breakfast in the morning. Heard of social bite before but had never visited, like their ethos and love their food. We had a couple of rolls and a lattes, service was really quick & friendly and the food was excellent. Will now my go-to place when I'm in Edinburgh

Great job these guys do helping vulnerable and homeless people always polite and helpful should have more backing to open up more shops around the country.

its certainly not high end dining but if you just want a cheap quick lunch either to eat in or to go this little cafe is ok. as the name infers the theme is to help with social problems and all profits go towards this so you can eat with a clear conscience.

We popped-in for a quick meal while visiting the city: we tried both the soups of the day and had cake and cappuccinos after. We were served by a Scottish woman and an Italian guy. they were both very friendly and knowledgeable about how this charity café helps the local community. We offered to pay forward a meal for a homeless person and were explained how the process works and thanked for our donation. On the other side can be a bit noisy, I wish there was more space but the delicious coffee and good cause made it worth it.

We visited on 7th October, Cafe was empty, comfortable seating and warm welcome from the staff. No soup or baked potato left at 2pm so opted for baked sweet potato with tuna. Was expecting to be served on a plate but arrived in plastic containers. Tuna was stone cold and piled on top of sweet potato, was expecting the topping to be heated. Sadly no taste at all as the cold tuna on a small portion of heated sweet potato just didn’t work. We left most of it and I agree a wonderful cause and would next time try sandwiches instead 👍

Great breakfast, well cooked and really good coffee. Cheaper than you would expect to pay in other neighouring cafes. Option to pay it forward for someone else to have a hot meal was great and nice to see people from all walks of life coming in to get something to eat. Lovely staff, friendly efficient and helpful, clean and very comfortable surroundings, would definitely go back and try another meal.

Simply the best in service, food, price and value. I really enjoy the mushroom soup and duck wrap. Their service was great and toast the food for me. Will be back again!

Been here back in November and had 2 great meals and so when back visiting for a quick 2 day trip was keen to return. I was bored on the train and had been reading a few reviews and one that said it was expensive. I ve been I thought, but I didnt think it was. I had soup again and thought it was dearer than I remember paying so looked back at my review from all of 9 months ago and it has indeed jumped up a fair bit. Paid £2.25 for soup and a roll then and now its £3.50. I walked all the way across town to visit today but will try somewhere else tomorrow. Soup was ok but just took the shine off the experience somewhat.

Breakfasts were well cooked and good, good coffee too. Staff are super friendly. Love the pay it forward idea, Everyone should try this place sometime

I keep going back here for lunch when I'm in Edinborough. There are several fast food chains within a minute's walk of here and some are very good. However when it comes to comforting lunch with frequent changes of menu at crazy cheap price I'd be a fool not to buy here.

Stopped by for a light lunch. Delicious spiced carrot soup, good sandwich and salads. Great value and really nice and helpful stuff, advising on gluten free items. This will be a regular stop.

Came here after my partner spotted it while walking past, we were fancying something light as we had a reservation booked at a steak place for an evening meal. The locally sourced ingredients and soup advertised, made us stop. I admit I originally discarded the place due to not being able to see a menu on the window and it was completely empty(not normally a good sign however it quickly became full), but decided you could nt go wrong with soup right?.

Wow. There’s nothing I don’t like about this place. I read about it last week and walked the 1/2 mile from Edinburgh’s Waverley station this morning to spend my breakfast and coffee pennies here. Love what they are doing to support homeless people in Scotland. I’ve just had a huge bacon roll with a fried egg and a Twinings tea, and doubled up the order to pay the same forward to a homeless person. £5.90 for all that! And I’m feeling good as I tuck in. Quality of ready prepared food is awesome. Healthy food options at great prices. Compostable packaging too. All ”paid forward items” go on post it notes above the counter and homeless people can come in and choose from what’s been offered. This cafe provides excellent food and a very reasonable cost while supporting a vital cause. The salads and hot food are brilliant and the staff provide friendly helpful service. If I worked in nearby I'd be in for lunch everyday.

Like many others, we walked into Social Bite totally unawares of what they are about. We wanted tea and a snack while we gathered our thoughts about the day ahead. We quickly realised that this little treasure not only provides superb food and exceptional prices, but it directly supports the homeless people from the surrounding streets. One in four of the staff have, at some time, been homeless themselves and the many stories of success are heartwarming. The food is wonderful and somewhere behind the scenes there is a MIchelin star chef helping them along. If you are ever in Edinburgh, you should really pay a visit ...

My wife and I stumbled upon this little place while we were walking down the city center. It looked like a cool little cafe but one we entered we saw what it was really about. This restaurant exist to help end homelessness!

Delicious food (wraps/ salads/ sandwiches/ soup and lots more). As good as any high street chain and better. Plus - your eating there helps stop homelessness in Scotland. What’s not to like.

Llegó de visita por el borde de mi amigo había leído sobre este sitio en internet y cómo ayudan a casa y educar a las personas sin hogar. Para ser honestos, no esperaba la comida es genial, pero era! Como un típico turista me fui para "haggis tatties y nedes" que era haggis, puré con salsa de whisky y ante. Barato, caliente, gran sabor todo por una buena causa. Recomiendo encarecidamente. Todos mis amigos tenían el cerdo desmenuzado burrito "muy buena relación calidad-precio que y agua para bajo un fiver".

Such a brilliant idea we should have more places like this rather than big names looking for big profits. Down to earth and friendly staff, good quality products at a reasonable price.

Personally, the biggest factor drawing me to the Social Bite is its social consciousness, although the food is decent too.

Highly recommend the falafel salad but everything looked great! Really friendly staff and nice to know it’s all for a good cause. Plenty of gluten free options too (mainly salads but also saw a GF sandwich).

We had read about this cafe, so we were curious, and we thought we would do a good deed by eating there. The staff are super, and the food was at a much higher level than I expected. The food was simple enough, but it was imaginatively prepared. All I had was a salad mixture with beets and lentils. The ingredients were excellent and the tastes were complex. This is well worth a stop.

I came by Social Bite for breakfast on a trip to Edinburgh with work. The breakfast was OK. The sausage sandwich and bannana bagel I had were both pretty average but the granola & compote/yoghurt was nice.

We had a nutritious lunch here and were presently surprised by their social causes. There were some gluten free items. What we had was tasty however we got there around 2:30 in the afternoon and the selection was a bit limited. We would definitely go back.

Even if this wasn’t a restaurant running just to help raise money for charity I’d still eat here for the food. It is great. But knowing that 100% of the money goes to charity is just amazing!

Un amigo y yo metimos en para ver como me había oído hablar de esto y acabamos teniendo un almuerzo un poco antes de lo previsto. Un montón de opciones agradable, algunas buenas opciones vegetarianas, caliente o fría, y un personal amable, aunque un poco lento para reaccionar. Muy buena relación calidad-precio y sabroso. Sin duda volvería de nuevo.

Tienes la opción de pagar un poco más hacia bebidas calientes y comida para una persona sin hogar, pero todas las ganancias de este ir hacia la alimentación cafe sin hogar. Mejor que dar su dinero a los gigantes, recomendaría estos cafés a cualquiera.

Llegué el viernes, caminamos edinburgh pass este lugar, tenía el limón pollo piri piri más maravillosa en la ciudad, y luego entré en su segundo outlet pass la ciudad, tenía otro pollo piri piri. . Lamentablemente estaban cerrados durante los próximos dos días (fin de semana). . Estuve allí 645 am a primera hora de la mañana, esperando un poco más. . Pero no porque la comida caliente venían 1130 am. . Y tuve que ir, cada día volvía, hasta que el avión de vuelta a Hong Kong. . Todo buen sabor. .

Great place for anyone in a hurry who wants a quick but tasty snack. Everything is spotless, the staff are charming and helpful and the choice of food adequate for pretty well all tastes. Frankly, I would see it as a much better way to help the folk who are down on their luck than by putting some coins in a cap. Its in a good spot as well for anyone in the west end of the city.

This place has developed a high profile over the years as many celebrities have popped in here to offer their support. I would encourage everyone else who likes supporting worthwhile causes to visit post-haste.

If you are in the city centre this is the best place to stop. It's a great company with a social ethos. The food is fresh and reasonably priced. The bagel deal in the morning is amazing! Don't go to Starbucks and pret, support the little guy doing good stuff!!!!

Many people know about the fantastic work this social enterprise does.My wife was doing a quiz night for a charity that provides clean water to children in Africa. Which is very close to her heart, I offered to arrange the catering.Having used and donated to Social Bite before, I thought it would be good to give them a chance to provide the buffet.I am so glad we did, the food provided was freshly prepared, superb and beautifully presented.If you are in Edinburgh and need outside catering, I would have no hesitation in recommending Social Bite.If you are just visiting Edinburgh, seek out their shops in Rose Street or Shandwick Place, lovely staff , great fresh food and a really worthwhile cause.

Tasty healthful soup and sandwiches and boxed salads, unusual Rwandan fairtrade coffee. They employ and feed the homeless, obviously a deserving cause. Will return.

Wandering down Rose Street was a rather sad experience, yesterday, with so many small eating places having closed down but then (Ping!) I found another Social Bite cafe. I've, already visited the one in Haymarket (the one where both George Clooney and Leonardo di Caprio have turned up.This one is smaller, but still very good value.I had a great 'deal' including a tasty coffee and a well-filled bagel.That made me think of New York!On the wall was a confirmation that 20 homeless people are employed by the cafe.Which is very, very good. As is Social Bite!

Stopped here for coffee and snacks midweek around lunchtime. What a fantastic place, supporting a great cause. Food was delicious (the millionaire shortbread was exceptionally good), coffee was real and the staff were simply brilliant. Nothing was too much effort. Wish all places were like this! Plan to make this my Edinburgh coffee stop from now on.

We spent 2 nights in Edinburgh and had breakfast here both mornings. Lovely bacon rolls, friendly staff and just as importantly they are helping those less fortunate than those of us lucky enough to be on our holidays. Go and have a look for yourselves - thank you for lovely service.

Popped in this morning for a breakfast roll and tea. Great tunes in the background and fantastic service. The food was lovely as well. The girl who served me was so attentive and friendly. Will definitely return next time I visit the Capital. Well done to all involved.

Good food for a good cause, what more needs to be said? There is a wide variety of food available to suit all needs, whether it's a bowl of soup, sandwhich or salad, they will have something for you! There hot meals are really nice and could be co fused with any local restaurant. Coffees not bad either!!

I love the idea of enjoying the food and also having a feel good feeling that you have helped someone. Its a great idea and when I am in town I always try and get my lunch here or at the other branch. Staff always friendly and helpful and the plus is the food is good and wholesome. I enjoy the soup very much.

Great concept and charitable contribution. First place we ate when we arrived in Edinburgh after a 6 hour journey - happened to be behind our hotel but what a find! Beautiful sandwiches that, thanks to a freakishly sunny and warm week, were relished in the gardens under the castle. Salty Dog crisps were also lovely, as was the free-top up drinks.So good that we went back again the next day, this time I had a great falafel and hummus salad - healthy and delicious. My only regret was not visiting long enough to fill the reward card!!Challenge your usual supermarket, Costa, Starbucks or Pret lunch, and enjoy good food and a good conscience.

This is the third time we've been here i had the jambalaya, my husband had the jamaican chicken. With a coffee each and a traybake it came to around £16. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Defienately worth a visit.

I always aim to visit Social Bite once a week (some times twice!) The food is fresh, tasty and plentiful - I would highly recommend the chicken fajita wrap or baked potato, always with crispy skins mmm! Staff are friendly and always willing to help.The meal deals are excellent value for money and on every 5th/10th visit you get a free coffee. Just make sure to get a card to collect your stamps.oh, and the cakes, don't forget to pick up a cake!

Go here for lunch around once a week, normally get baked potato food is always great and staff are always enthusiastic, a bit pricier than other places but great cause!

What a great concept ... All the profits to help homeless people and 1 in 4 of the staff were previously homeless. The service was outstanding, the people were welcoming and the cake, coffee and hot chocolate were perfect. Thank you and keep expanding!

Social Bite is an excellent initiative, as many people have already commented. Like any café, it serves a selection of sandwiches, soups, hot drinks, salads etc. The difference is you can also buy an extra item or two which will later be given to a homeless person who needs something to eat. On top of this, any profits the place makes will go towards good causes related to the homeless.I visited with my mother and sister, and between us we had a sandwich, noodles, crisps, water, rocky road, and hot chocolate. The food was largely good, apart from the noodles, which were watery and disappointing. Hot chocolate was excellent, and had a Christmas Tree crafted into it. Excellent! At the end of the meal, we also purchased a soup and sandwich for a homeless person. The staff were all friendly and helpful. I understand many workers here were themselves homeless in the past.I can see why George Clooney visited Social Bite recently. The place is excellent, and clearly committed to its good work. 100% of the profits go to the homeless, the food is good, and the staff are very nice. Check it out.

Delicious food that's great quality. Every time I've gone the staff are always friendly and service is quick even during the lunchtime rush. The steep prices are the only downside that stops me going more frequently.

When in Scotland, have the haggis. The meal was filling and satisfied my taste buds, while I knew any profits being made would go to a worthy cause. They do a bit of "competition bashing" with some of their advertising though, which leaves a bit of a bad taste, and despite all the goodness inside they still use plastic forks and knives. Hope that changes soon.

We stumbled across this fantastic cafe while on a trip to Edinburgh. We managed to find something that everyone in the family wanted to eat (not easy for 5 people between 6 and 43!) and everyone really enjoyed it. Friendly staff, great food, very clean and somewhere that is giving back to the community. Great job everyone.

Idea of profits going to charity is obviously great as it's always going to be busy due to location. However, if the food was better they'd make more profit by repeat visit from local lunch trade. Plenty of option for food though.

I have been visiting across a few weeks now and between the two site, the other on Shandwick Place. I love the salads, the coffee is well made and nothing is too much. When your in make sure to leave a meal at the till! Outstanding guys I will continue to use, keep up the great work!

Omg! Are these reviews real? A completely different experience for myself... The sandwiches are dry and staff (or owners not sure who they were) are rude!! Avoid this place cannot believe how hyped it is, who is this Michelin star chef a kids home economics class could put better sandwiches together!! Poor show
