Ate here today for my birthday today, not from the area. Very quirky place to eat, the appearance is lovely, the staff were very helpful in helping us choose from the menu and the food was outstanding! Will definitely return if we come back to the area!

A lunchtime stroll in Rochester left myself and my friend hungry. After walking up and down the high street a few times we settled on SMOQE. at a glance the menu seemed to be quite good if a little expensive. We went inside and were immediately greeted by a friendly member of staff (who later turned out to be one of the owners). The decor of the place is very nicely done, modern feel but still homely. As it is predominantly a burger shop... we decided to have burgers and loades fries to share. The lady who served us was very polite and friendly. She was more than willing to talk about the restaurant and the menu. Some of the items are collaborative with other local establishments which is a nice touch. The food itself came out very fast (it was a quiet period) you can also see it being prepared in the open kitchen which is something I personally really like. I had the 'SMOQE with a QC' and loaded cheesy fries (the other photo is the Onion bhaji burger). The presentation of the food was of a very high standard. My only complaint was the fires were not exactly loaded, rather sprinkled with cheese... I asked for more cheese in which they obliged... But they did charge me for it. The burger was fantastic but the star of the show for me was the dessert. Raspberry and white chocolate cheesecake. It was devine. Overall I would rate this restaurant highly based upon the service and quality of food. It's quite expensive as you can see by the receipt, but I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for an up market lunch in a relaxing, friendly environment. ✌🏼

Ate here the other night, burger had good flavours but my patty was a bit under done for me, also having to pay extra for fries was a liberty as well, £17 for just a burger is a bit dear considering the dead pigeon you get fries with your meal. Atmosphere was good staff very friendly as well. Would come back to try the ribs.

We visited one evening and popped in with the hope of getting a table without booking. The owners were friendly, welcoming, and couldn't do enough to help. They were genuine people, and this definitely added to our experience. I was on a strict diet, and they helped cater to my needs without issue. Another plus! When the food arrived, I can honestly say it was one of the nicest burgers I have ever tasted. Everything was cooked with time and care, it certainly showed in every meal. We will definitely be back for more when next in Rochester. This is a real gem of a restaurant that needs the support of all! Highly recommended 👌

Spotted this amazing looking place on a day trip to rochester. Popped in, they managed not only to fit us in, but also give us the last shared st louis rib platter, which was the softest most beautiful pork ever! A chat with the chef and some top cocktails made it a highy recommended experience. Thanks smoqe!

One of the only restaurants both my wife and I haven’t eating in on the Rochester high street. I have to say, BRILLIANT!! Was made to feel very welcome from the moment we entered. Excellent burger and fries. And the Moretti beers went down very well.. Quick service unlike a few of the burger venues in the high street. Not naming no names. We will definitely be back.

Came in today with my family. Service was excellent and the food was fantastic. All the staff went out of their way to ensure our food and experience was exceptional. Highly recommend!

A fairly quiet evening so allowed the lady (owner?) to spend quality time talking about the menu and about the business, so welcoming and passionate. Toilets- clean, well maintained, UNsmelly! Food - ordered different dishes and allowed us to personalise them, even did some onion fries that weren’t on the menu. Nice vibes, smelled good as well. Drinks - 👍🏻 Will happily return 👍🏻👍🏻

Lovely place in Rochester High Street, a three minute walk from Blue Boar car park, nice atmosphere, super courteous staff, food was fresh and absolutely 10/10. This was named 'The Creeper'. Book to avoid missing out.

All the food is super delicious. Burger buns are real bread, not some sponge mixed with clay like in other places. Meat is juicy and perfectly grilled and fries are crispy. All condiments were fresh and just in the right quantity so the end product is just perfect. Better food than at dead pigeon (which is to be fair pretty good). Selection might be smaller but it's definitely quality over quantity.

Just had a lovely evening in this restaurant. The ribs are amazing and veggie option was a success with the party also. Well worth a visit. Great staff and food.

This is a really good place to get a really tasty burger. I had the Korean spicy BBQ chicken burger with Cajun chips. I am a massive fan of Asian flavours so this really hit the spot. The chicken was in a panko crumb and superbly crisp with delicious kimichi and slaw next to it. The chips are delightful, perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. I would definitely go back to try some of the other burgers on offer. The restaurant is very small but I wouldn’t say that’s a bad thing, and the staff were very friendly. It is a bit pricey but the portions are big and sometimes I don’t mind paying more for something proper tasty.

Incredible owner, incredible food. My girlfriend and I went in for a quick bite. The 'On Yer Jack' is perfection, girlfriend had an onion bajhi burger. We were both throughly impressed. Very reasonable prices. Even with an in-built service charge, I was so blown away I still felt the need to leave an additional tip Going for the ribs next time

Had an early Father's Day lunch here. The food was great and the service really friendly. The atmosphere was great with mood setting music (not too loud) and a real family feel. There's only a few tables so it's worth booking to avoid disappointment

Wow, as an American living in England I haven't found many decent burgers but this place was DELICIOUS! A large helping and the fries were perfect. I recommend the Smashin' Burger with the pork cracklin fries. My friends had the Grim Reaper burger and could stop talking about it.

The best burgers we have had local by far , The place was cosy and welcoming, and service was absolutely fantastic. The ribs where a very good size and where very tasty . Definitely coming back this is a real gem to find local burger restaurant.

Waited for what felt like a lifetime for a dry burger and the service is shambolic. You can see the strain on the owners face of opening a burger place opposite Kent’s best burger joint (Chuck & Blade) and down the road from Dead pigeon. My advice if you want a good burger served with a smile go elsewhere (or across the road!)

We popped in for brunch - ‘chorizo, hash and egg’ was just the ticket with a nice coffee to go with it. Relaxed atmosphere even when it got busy. Definitely would recommend brunch here and look forward to going back to try the burgers!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Smoqe in Rochester, a small and cozy restaurant that serves up delicious barbecue dishes. Went last night for a first visit. Food was fantastic and the staff were great. Portions were good. Went halves on a spicy burger and portion of ribs and both were so good but the ribs took the edge they were amazing. Sweets were also fabulous. Can’t fault and will definitely go back and have no problem recommending. Good luck to the guys and girls there

Fantastic place, we are very much into our BBQ and make smash burgers all the time at home. This is the first place we have been where the burgers have impressed us. They were so tasty, the brioche buns were from a local artisan bakery and were really good. The rosemary fries were good, unfortunately they had sold out of pork and chicken flavouring for the fries. We will try them next time, homemade slaw was lovely, it had a great atmosphere and the staff were brilliant. The young lady that served us was so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. I would highly recommend going, and I'm looking forward to going back soon.

Lovely and intimate restaurant We had an 18th birthday celebration for my daughter with a party of 12. The food was just perfect, my daughter had the best pulled pork burger ever apparently and service was quick and nothing was too much trouble, overall a fantastic place if you want great food served up in a cosy atmosphere then Smoque is your place

We booked on a busy Saturday night, the restaurant is very small, beautifully decorated and the tables are layed out so that it still feels cozy despite being small. Service was quick and the staff were very friendly. The manager checked to make sure everything was good as well as the our server We had the buttermilk chicken, Korean chicken and the smashing burgers and they were amazing. The buns look kind of small but the whole thing was super filling and I can normally eat a lot! The fries were nice and crispy but I couldn't eat them all after the burger. We also had a couple of cocktails each which were really nice.

Honest opinion = Smouldering - I spotted Smoqe when visiting the Rochester awhile ago and was intrigued at the quality of the décor, for a small burger bar. Later that day I looked at the reviews online. Some were mostly all positive, so with my friends we decided to give it ago later that month. We all ordered burgers of various kinds, I ordered the Smoqe’d Pork with Flavoured Fries (Smoqe Pork Crackling) After our wait whilst having drinks, the waitress laid the table with a very neat tray and cutlery. I was advised that my burger may drip juice, so to be careful. The quality was excellent and cooked well and quantity was ok. However, after asking others in the group, we all decided that the meat patties lacked flavour or seasoning, the same as the fries but finished our food nonetheless. We were considering desserts but £8 for a slice of cheese cake each, we was thought over priced. That said to be charged 12.5% service on top of our drinks, burgers and fries that were not cheap, again we thought was pricey, considering other restaurants only charge this for 8/10+ or more covers. Overall, if you are feeling flush and don’t fancy a Chinese, give it a try and see what you think...4/5

Food The portions are enormous! So in that respect you get value for money. The burgers are loaded and the mains are packed with flavour. The menu is dominated by burgers which if you like that you'll love this place. Only gripe is the rosemary fries looked and tasted like ordinary fries garnished unevenly with sprinkled dried rosemary. There are recipes for rosemary fries it's not just a random dash of herbs. The food came well presented, the milkshake was good too. Service The place was empty but service lagged at the end, felt we waited a while for the bill so ended up asking for it. Considering we ordered from a QR code I couldn't understand why there was a mandatory service charge. Although the restaurant is American inspired this isn't America and should allow customers to make a voluntary tip. I think that staff were nice and friendly and quite likely would have tipped if not forced. Atmosphere They play really nice mood music but on our visit was ruined by a very loud meeting. Despite the restaurant being dead, what I think is the proprietor and the restaurant manager decided on having a meeting on the 8 seater table in the middle of the restaurant. In no way did all her audible complaints about needing VAT to drop etc improve the ambiance of the restaurant. Such conversation should be out of customers earshot.

What a fabulous place and delicious food ! The Korean chicken burger was the best I’ve ever had . The ingredients are fresh and the sauces tasted so delicious. Absolutely amazing customer service and so welcoming ! The owner goes above and beyond to look after all the customers . Can’t recommend this place enough .

Went here with my family of 4. Lovely little place. Friendly staff. All the burgers were ace. Fries were the best my son ever had. I had the pork ribs……huge portion and the best I’ve had in many years. Sauces are homemade and really good. All in all, a great spot with great food.

I had a burger, portion was good. Rosemary chips felt like bit oily. Burger patty was bit dry and overcooked however it was nice for other burgers at the table. It was bit disappointing to not being asked how I would like to have my burger patty at all. That can be improved. Service and stuff was nice and kind.

Nice place, cosy, staff is friendly. Everything was very nice, starting from coffee. We ordered 2 burgers, rosemary fries and some onion fries. Beef was very succulent. Overall good burgers. Rosemary fries are to die for. Nice crispy, stayed hot through our meal(not like McDonald's which are stone cold after 5mins). Onion fries were also very good. It's a variation of onion rings just not soggy. So all in all very nice evening meal. I would recommend to try out this place to anyone who likes a gourmet burger.

Me and my partner went here tonight and we couldn’t recommend it more! Claire was so welcoming and made our visit all the more amazing. My partner also asked if they do onion rings to which they don’t but they were thinking of adding onion fries to the menu, when our food was bought out we were surprised with a portion of these and they were absolutely out of this world, can’t recommend Smoqe enough x

From the moment we walked in, to when we left it was flawless The staff were polite, knowledge and the food came out as requested (amends were made to some menu items) The food was amazing - so much so that we are already planning our next visit The lady who owns this establishment is also hands on - taking orders, bringing food out and most of all, making each and every customer feel welcome. Only the grim reaper is great, the others (pork and smashing burger) are rather dry, even the bread itself. I don't like the waiter keep asking us the order of drinks, it was too pushy for us. And there is 12.5% service charge, we didn't know that until the bill is showed up.

This was a wonderful little gem. The staff where amazing. Helpful and really friendly considering they were rushed off their feet. I don't live in area but would return just for this restaurant . Food was delicious and milk shake was like a desert in itself.

This is “THE” place that i will visit time and time again when in Rochester. It is the second weekend that we had Brunch and Dinner here. I don't get dispassionate with the style, service and the FOODS. You feel welcome each time, like you have arrived to their home for dinner. Both owners are proud and passionate about what there are doing. And it reflects in the quality of all the above, All their meals are home made. The burgers are juicy, very tasteful don't taste manufactured chain like. I love chillies peppers in my food and I wasn't late down when I mention it to the owner who is one of the chefs. I cried, sweated and was over the moon because he understood what I was asking. Rest a sured, not all the meals are a volcano in your mouth but if you ask for Volcano you get Volcano. The décor is very sleek, trendy comfortable and cozzie. You are able to sit outside too, with a Paris-bistro style chic. If you want to taste The best burger or southern food made from the heart, I would advise to book and take your time to enjoy each mouth full of the love and passion made there. We had a late breakfast/brunch there ,my husband loves an English breakfast and commented on how scrumptious the big boys breakfast was ,lovely sausages and amazing smoked bacon as the highlights. He said it not your typical “ greasy spoon” experience ….and all the better for it. We are going back to Rochester just to eat there. And we have taken family there too. Fan of this place.

Went here with friends, the ribs where a disappointment for the price - says slow cooked but we’re “reheated” in the microwave. From the description I was expecting the kind of ribs you get at Bodeans and other places. The burgers were nice and reasonably priced. The biggest issue was paying over £30 for a bottle of white wine which had come from Aldi. I get businesses have mark ups but when you can pick this wine up for less than £6 in Aldi it’s a bit much. Overall, nice burgers, friendly staff but avoid the ribs and wine.

Lovely breakfast with an interesting twist. Really liked my skillet. Staff were lovely and friendly. Would definitely return and recommend for those looking for a breakfast a little different from the crowd.

The restaurant itself is tiny, very cramped. Food is very expensive for what you get. Burger was average, the salted chips were okay. Pulled pork was dry and lacked flavour. Pork crackling chips definitely weren't worth it, couldn't tell any real difference between them and the normal chips. Salad came with pomegranate seeds which we didn't realise, they were also within the coleslaw which we found odd. Staff seemed stressed despite the fact it wasn't that busy and we could hear the manager complaining. At one point a dog was allowed in which made some of our party uncomfortable in such close quarters, the group with the dog did end up eating outside but it was still strange that it was allowed in at all. Overall it was pretty so so, not necessarily an awful experience but not a great one, if in Rochester again we'll be trying somewhere else. Update: No-one else I visited with has left a review so I'm not sure what the reply is about

The burger was massive and tasted great a really filling meal. The service was excellent and a very friendly place with soothing music while you eat. Would visit again. My only feedback would be don't add so much coleslaw and the pomegranate seeds to the burger 🍔 but other that a great meal. 5/5

Stumbled on Smoqe last Sunday afternoon. We weren't booked but they managed to squeeze us in, and we sat outside. I am so glad they managed to accommodate us, as we all agreed (Wife, Daughter myself) that this was the Best Burger we have ever tasted. Over the years, we have been fortunate to eat at some of the most well-regarded burger joints from all over the globe, and this knocked them all out of the park. I am not usually a great fan of fries/potatoes in general either, but the cajun fries we ordered were also bang on the money. The waiter and waitress who served us were both courteous and attentive. So pleased this is just around the corner from where we live. What a find. What a great Father's Day.

Unfortunately not the best experience, Went for breakfast and its a shame that it didn’t meet expectations , It was not particularly busy but there was still quite a wait for food, when the food did arrive the orders were wrong, the waiter gave the wrong meals to the wrong people the only thing warm on the plate was the sausages and was served half a cup of tea. For the prices they charge this should have been much better! Over £60 for 4 breakfasts!

A very positive and enjoyable experience. High standard of great tasting, well presented food and fairly priced. Swift friendly service too. Smog also uses the QR code scan ordering system which takes care of splitting bills fairly. I’m genuinely impressed.

Ordered the ‘ribs’ for £48 and I’ve never been so disappointed. They may of had bones in but it was more like pulled pork, actually not more like pulled pork it was pulled pork, couldn’t separate or cut into ribs, sloppy fat all around as it was more like a joint of pork and in no way could you chop them and pick them up.No charring at all like authentic St. Louis ribs I’ve had in the US or infact at BigEasy or Red dog saloon in the U.K.. Tasted pretty bland apart from the hideous bbq sauce poured all over that just tasted like generic bbq sauce from a bottle. Also no smoke ring and seemed slow oven cooked and not ‘smoked’. Don’t believe they take 2 days to cook, give me 4hrs and it would have the same result If this was sold as pulled pork I would say it was really good, but I’m not a fan of pulled pork in this country as they have no clue how to serve it with the correct condiments and after 5 mins of eating it was boring me So £48 for ribs for two and served with a tiny portion of fries and a small pot of coleslaw that was like a child’s portion and this is for two adults. Fries were great but the pork crackling topping was just overkill and still tasting it now. As for the restaurant, looks great, feels great but being a couple having a meal at 7.30pm wasn’t expecting the noise that we did experience, I would only recommend for groups as it was way too loud along with the club music and I couldn’t even hear my wife talking. True feeling is these owners are new to the restaurant game as there was an unprofessional feeling where nobody knew how to greet or serve properly. Then to top it off we’re hit with a 12.5% service charge…..for ordering on an app and bringing us a glass of wine and a beer and the bill. Ordering system is like a fast food chain and no personal service yet we get charged for it Ended up leaving the ribs after eating 1/3 of them and wasn’t even asked if anything was wrong until after we paid the bill and at that point I just wanted to leave. Lovely couple and very polite owners but that’s just not enough wasting £70 on what I can’t even call a nice meal Just so disappointed and feeling robbed of our hard earned money on what was rare night out without the kids. Reduced to one star from two for the shabby and unprofessional reply. I wasn’t asked once how the meal was whilst I was there, I didn’t complain at all and yet this is your reply, because other people rate your burgers doesn’t mean I was wrong about the pork ‘ribs’. You took our money even though more than 2/3 of the food was left, you don’t really care about true reviews just the 5 star ones. Simple apology Would of been enough or an offer to return to try something different Your assumption that I must be in the wrong as I didn’t rate 5 stars will be seen soon enough, owners clearly can’t take criticism and take responsibility

Came from Aldershot to meet a friend and he recommended this place! Absolutely fantastic food and fantastic staff! The owners were very helpful and accommodating. Johns a top lad and grows his own Carolina reapers which I must add were unbelievable and this information just made the Grim reaper beef burger that little bit better! Also tried the Korean Chicken burger which was a delight and a must for anyone that prefers chicken to beef! Would 100% recommend and I will definitely be visiting again.

Came from Guildford to meet a friend and who lives this way and we couldn't have been happier with the entire experience. From start to finish we enjoyed every minute. We had the grim reaper and the Korean chicken along with the chicken crackling and the pork crackling. Highly recommend !!!!

We have been following Smoqe on Instagram for a while but live near Manchester. We were passing quite near on Saturday and called in, wow, these are the best burgers we have ever tasted, defiantly better than anything we have had before. Great setting and décor, staff we very friendly and helpful as I couldn't decide which burger to try, they suggested the Grim Reaper which was amazing, spicy with hot sauce but not over the top. We shared some ribs to start, these just fell off the bone, sticky, sweet and tasty. The Smoqe n bacon cheese burger was juicy and the bacon gave a good smoky punch. Even the fries were stunning, try the pork crackling or rosemary salt. They also serve good Gin & Tonics, decent wine and beer, not the usual rubbish. Even if you are not local, book a table and make the journey, you wont be disappointed although 240 miles is a long way to go for a burger.

Had a lovely birthday lunch here for my son. We had a sharing portion of the ribs and they were AMAZING! Really tender and juicy and falling off the bone. Accompanying fries were pretty darn good too. Choccy dessert was also yummy! Staff were really friendly and the restaurant itself was very comfy and chill. We will be back to try the burgers very soon.

We discovered this amazing restaurant whilst having a walk down Rochester high St on new years eve. Best burgers ever! (And i couldn't stop eating the chips) Everything was perfectly cooked and absolutely delicious. The chilli is also divine and I definitely recommend you try it. Really lovely little place, and the owner was so nice, nothing was too much trouble and she went out of her way to make sure we were happy. All in all a fantastic experience. Looking forward to our next visit. 10/10.

We had the Grim Reaper Burger and the Onion Bahji Burger. Burgers are the best we have had in yonks and the chips were on point. Great service and a nice environment. Highly recommend.

Had a great Saturday evening at Smoqe, we were a party of 7 and everybody loved their food. The service was amazing, can’t recommend this restaurant enough 👏🏻👏🏻

Best burger joint in the south east by far. The only slight comparison would be five guys but this place is far superior and the staff are great!

This Restaurant and the staff are fantastic, not only do the make the most amazing burgers I've ever had, there friendly and helpful and even called me back whe just eat we're being idiots. I highly recommend them and if you haven't had a Reaper burger you have waisted your life.

Best burger I’ve had. They use proper beef patties with the option to customise and put whatever you’d like in your burgers. Can’t wait to go back and try the ribs they looked incredible!

Heating broken and was only told after mentioning how cold it was a few times. Decor nice inside but food wasn't worth it 100% if you want a burger dead pigeon is more value for money and much better quality albeit a sports bar which lets it down. This place was expensive and rather a let down Music was being played via someone's phone as it frequently was interrupted by a message tone Wouldn't return or recommend

Such a lovely restaurant. Food is absolutely amazing, compliments to chef Laura and Jhon for the amazing burgers! The front of house staff was also amazing, very quick and friendly service. We will definatley return! Please visit this restaurant if you're visiting Rochester as its one of the best burgers in town!!

Went for the first time tonight, been waiting ages to try this since it opened. Nice atmosphere, love how the restaurant looks, friendly staff and the burgers are amazing the girlfriend and I were really impressed. Definitely worth checking out!

Was looking for somewhere to have a quick bite and came across Smoqe, so glad I tried it, the food is absolutely delicious, we had the buttermilk chicken burger and grim burger, my husband is never happy with restaurant food but he really enjoyed the burger here. Will definitely be back

Best burger in town!! This was our first visit to Smoqe and we were not disappointed. Fantastic service throughout, great selection of alcoholic drinks, chips were devine, house slaw was amazing and the buger...there are no words! We shall be returning to work our way through the menu.

A bit expensive , but the food is absolutely amazing.. I would recommend for this place to add kids menu, but thanks to the stuff they made a chicken pieces with chips for our daughter ❤️ recommend this place

EDIT: To be absolutely clear, the false accusation by the business that it took us "30 minutes" to order - is absolutely inaccurate. We received our phone call at 17:22 and arrived at 17:28 to collect our order. The blatant lie from the business owner just affirms my negative experience with Smoqe. We ordered from Smoqe recently and had an awful experience. The burgers were OK - unfortunately, they were lacking in flavour and definitely didn't live up to their description. We ordered the pork scratching fries and what we got served were stone cold chips, that didn't taste anything like pork scratching! You could tell they had been sitting below a heat lamp for a long period of time - definitely not cooked fresh. When we complained, we were given a lot of grief and were only, begrudgingly by the manager, offered replacement chips - which we had to collect ourselves! It was a shame, we definitely had high hopes for this new addition to Rochester high street. Would absolutely not order from here again.
