I visited for coffee and cake with my Mum about 3.30pm, we were made to feel extremely unwelcome after ordering and paying as we were then made aware that the cafe was closing at 4pm. As we were eating staff were brushing under our table and moving the furniture around, they were constantly banging one of the doors loudly, which was causing distress to my 81 year old Mum, in addition to this staff propped the door to the coffee shop open leaving us cold and in a draught, I'm guessing that this was their attempt to make us hurry up and leave. I have previously used the coffee shop before and been really pleased with the level of service and the quality of food and drink, I have even recommended it to others, needless to say I'm extremely disappointed and won't be visiting again.

BEST iced mocha I’ve had on the wirral!! Popped into Bank on my lunch break as it was a gorgeous day and fancied a refreshing drink, which the girls at bank definitely delivered. I also didn’t realise they have a lovely outdoor courtyard which I happily took advantage of. Definitely popping in again soon, massive credit to the lovely girls serving me who were so positive and helpful too!

We normaly pop in Wetherspoons but whilst I love the food, I might review that another time, I fancied somewhere a bit more sedate for my Sunday coffee. It''s obvious from the name that in a previous life this was a bank, first time visit I bagged the old bank managers office, now opened up with comfy sofas. My coffee was as good as those i've had in some cooler than cool coffee shops in Liverpool but the price was far better, the cake was just as nice. Now I wouldn't normally review a coffee shop but the man behind the counter was so nice, I wasn't having the best of days and he left me smiling with his quirky humour. Thanks, I will be back.

My friend and I had lunch here earlier this week and it was really excellent. I had the Brie, cranberry and bacon sandwich on granary, which was amazing. Lots of filling, thick bread and the best bacon I've had in ages. My friend had the tuna mayo with sweetcorn, which was also delicious. It came with some salad, and a coleslaw that we were less keen on. The coffee in Smooth is always lovely. Between us we had spiced pumpkin latte, americano, flat white and cappuccino! We didn't have room for cake, but have had that on other occasions and the sponges are always delicious. The ambience is great and the staff very friendly. Thoroughly recommended!

We visited Smooth today for coffee. It was the first time I had been but my husband has been there before. I had a flat white and he had an americano. Both coffees were absolutely horrible, his was watery and my flat white just tasted of hot milk. We told the waitress and she added another shot (well I can only presume this was what she did) and brought them back to us. They were only marginally better, My flat white still tasted of hot milk although now not so hot! and my husband said his americano did not really taste like coffee at all. Basically they were both disgusting and we couldn't finish them. The surroundings were nice and the scone and teacake where ok. My husband said that Smooth always used to be good for coffee but these drinks were so vile (and expensive!) that we will never go there again.

Called in to have a quick coffee this morning (Saturday) There were two young girls on and we sat for fifteen minutes waiting for them to come over and just acknowledge us but nobody came. We went to the counter to which they said they would be over in a minute... waited another ten minutes and decided to leave but went to the counter and said we had waited for an extra ten minutes and nobody came to us and the reply was 'we are busy!' This is not good enough and can only say that this is one of the poorest examples of customer service. We have visited many times during the week and there has been different staff on duty who always look after the customers. Please please sort out these young girls and give them some lessons on customer service... even if its to just welcome customers and explain up front that they are busy and will be with you as soon as they can. Totally disappointed with this visit.

We stopped off in Hoylake and happened upon Smooth which is ideally placed in the centre of the town. The setting is quirky in a former bank with a warm and comfortable ambiance. The coffee and tea cake was very nice as was my 'doorstep' wholemeal toast but it was the presentation of my hot chocolate with real chocolate pieces you mix into the piping hot milk along with the marshmallows and fresh cream which was so tasty and beautifully presented. We visited this cafe just a couple of times before on the off chance as we were passing but every time we go in we are greeted superbly and the simple things are done so well. The decor is one to behold, as quite clearly this buildings main purpose wasn't for a lovely cafe but a bank foremost I believe. The decor is excellent, old (antique looking) wood everywhere the tables are old-modern style but it all works and makes for a stunning surrounding. We didn't order anything special just some coffees, teas & I personally had a hot chocolate. When it arrived I was slightly bemused and confused at first, as it seemed to be, what is called now, 'deconstructed' on the saucer. All elements were separate from each other. I did actually quite like it but conversely I could see how some people wouldn't like it as it just seemed like a half-done job. Furthermore, just the simple things like excellent premium quality coffee doesn't sound like much but it can make or break a little cafe in seconds as that is what the majority of people have come in for. I also couldn't resist a little slice of cake & when it came it wasn't so little anymore. A GIANT portion of cake greeted me on this plate but was I glad it was giant? Yes I was!It was gorgeous , smooth and melt in the mouth cream and the taste was simply outstanding. Happily, it tasted home-made, unlike these bigger 'chain' coffee shops where it tastes like it has come from a packet. In conclusion, this little cafe is excellent and with some extremely minor tweaking it would be un-undoubtedly the best in Hoylake.
