Smokey Barrels Bar & Grill in Birmingham

Came here while staying in Travelodge. Was expecting generic bar food, but was blown away by their Indian menu. Service was fast and good, ordered at table, and the food was better than dedicated Indian restaurants I've been to. Genuinely extremely happy with my experience here.

Went for my niece's 18th Birthday. The food was lovely and very attentive staff. Good atmosphere and plenty of TVs to watch the sport.

First of all, the food is excellent! Indian Chef for over 20 years, highly recommend it, Guinness was lovely, staff very friendly, nice atmosphere, football was on, great place to eat and chill!

Great food and service. I visited on a night with football on and it was very busy and loud in here. There didn't seem to be anywhere you could eat that was a quieter area so it wasn't a relaxing meal after a long day and drive.

Fantastic food, great team, brilliant atmosphere. Wished I lived nearer! Would definitely come again if working in the area, the Lamb Rogan Josh was just lovely and 2 pints of IPA only £8.40... blooming marvellous!

Excellent food we ordered Mega Platter there was enough food there for 6 off us. The curries were also good.

Main meal - mediocre at best. The burger was most definitely not fresh meat. Dessert - not a homemade brownie - if it is, the baker needs to practice. The profiteroles were stale and just not nice. The waitress needs some training on when to clear plates away. We were guven our desserts when our main meals plates were sill on the table, they were not taken away. It took for my husband to put them on an empty table for her to notice. The lady behind the bar was lovely! Didn't get her name. Sadly. The name of the pub/restaurant is very misleading for the food that is served. I was expecting American style bbq type food, not Indian food. I don't live near by, so it's not somewhere I wild need to go to often, thankfully. It's not somewhere I would recommend either.

El menú se veía increíble en línea con algo para todos, incluso las pequeñas personas de nuestra familia. ¿Estuvo a la altura de nuestras expectativas, no del todo, aunque no fue la peor comida que he comido, pero ciertamente no la mejor. Muchos otros pubs de estilo desi para elegir y creo que me mantendré en mi habitual futuro.

Mix grill are very expensive compared to other places

All round brilliant experience. Service was friendly and quick. They serve a nice amount of ales, beers and spirits. The food was a really good surprise! Big portions are hard to come by today so this added to the experience. 10/10 would recommend.

We were here for my friends stag, the food was outstanding and very very well priced for the quality (mixed grill is outstanding) the drinks were also very well priced, management and staff made the night better with their fast service and complimentary drinks (not asked for) Would 100% be returning, I recommend coming here for functions, a meal or just for a few drinks.

Bit tired atmosphere food choice is what it is

Sad to say I’m very disappointed! Me and my family have attended Smokey barrels a couple of times and never had an issue, however; yesterday we went they got 3 of our orders wrong then had the cheek to come over to the table to charge more!! We paid for 7 meals and 1 of the meals requested was chilli chips, 3 of the orders had chilli chips which the waitress was very apologetic for. What I found shocking was when the waitress then comes back with the card machine and said we never charged for the chilli chips lol! How is it you messed up not just 1 but 3 of the orders and then ask for the extra £1.50 for the chilli chips. Poor customer service and when requested to speak the manager she was very dismissive and said we have to charge extra for chilli chips. Ok understandable but if we never said anything about the order being wrong would you have charged extra? Very weird. Will not be visiting again

Food was good I had the grill for 1 pretty good and a chicken balti was v/good with garlic fried rice

Compliments to the chef and the outstanding hardworking staff. Couldn't fault nothing there today, especially as we were in a group of 22 people for our Christmas party. Everything comes out hot and no mix-up in the orders. Smoothly done and very professionally. Thanku to VJ for looking after all our needs to let me come in early to set up to arrange the seating area. Lovely evening overall. Keep up the good work!!

I went here last week I wouldn't even give this place a 1 star if I didn't have to. I cut inside the fish I don't know what was inside but it was not fish I didn't even attempt to eat it..the mix grill was disgusting sheesh kebab was the worse iv ever had the best thing was the prawns.....then my dessert came out and there was a hair in the Custard...staff had a attitude when I asked for a refund not once did I receive an apology will never be eating there again absolutely vile place.

Had our Christmas Dinner here this year. Was excellent! Great value for money as well.

Para ser honestos, decidimos comer aquí ya que estábamos alojados en el hotel de al lado y había sido un día muy largo, así que no quería viajar más. Teníamos bajas expectativas, así que nos quedamos muy gratamente sorprendidos de lo maravillosa que era la comida! El menú es una mezcla inusual, pero buenas opciones. Pedimos una envoltura de pollo tandoori que era enorme y tan sabroso con pepino y pimientos muy frescos y crujientes. Pensé que sería más pequeño así que pedí fichas con él, pero realmente no las necesitaba. También comimos pollo tikka balti con arroz con champiñones. Absolutamente delicioso. El personal era muy amable y servicial. La comida era rápida: buena selección de bebidas. Muy agradable.

Quite gutted that virtually all the dishes were curry based. Also, noticed that not 1 person was taking notice of the TV's. I asked the girl behind the bar to put Strictly come dancing on, and i thought i was going to get linched.

Nice friendly local pub with great food and beer, staff are welcoming and hard working. Just a good all around public house. Live music and also djs play at the weekend. Sports also shown.

Top food. Great service. You gotta try the spicy lamb chops. The smokey burger is also a winner but my favourite is the Rogan Josh...beautiful!

This restaurant has converted from a buffet to pub that serves Indian mixed grill dishes. The place is large and can hold a lot of customers. Service is ok for the style of restaurant. The food is also above average. We would definitely recommend the pizza. Enjoy.

Pasando por allí se detuvo para tomar un par de bebidas en este bar y parrilla. El interior es realmente único con una buena sensación sobre él, estaba limpio y ocupado la comida se veía bien y olía bien con la gente pidiendo segundos en la mesa detrás de nosotros. El personal era amable y la cola no era larga para pedir tan eficiente. La próxima vez pararía por comida, ya que se veía muy bien, solo los comentarios del exterior podrían hacer con poco TLC, pero vale la pena una visita.

Stayed next door for 2 nights as we were visiting an exhibition at NEC, decided to give it a try, what a surprise Indian restaurant and pub what's not to like good menu, had tandoori mixed grill with chefs recipe masala chips absolutely stunning, on our last night we had lamb balti which was just a fab tasting dish with melt in the mouth lamb so nice I could easily have eaten another. Worth a repeat visit when next in the area. You will not be dissapointed.

The food in general was well presented and the mixed grill for two was nice. The nachos were very thin and tasted a little basic. There was a football game on and the pub side was full whilst the restaurant side was pretty empty.

The actual place is a bit rough round the edges, one person was vaping on the table next to us and there was someone who refused to leave after getting too drunk however the staff did well to keep him out of the way. Too many slot machines which spoils it a bit. It had an atmosphere which was sometimes great and other times rough and I wouldn't bring my kids here on an evening out. Kids aren't allowed in after 9 so that makes sense. The food was fantastic. Curry was packed full of flavour, mixed grill was big and onion chutney stood out. The onion bhajis were a bit dry. Couldn't fault the staff. They were fast, friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The idea of an Indian bar and grill is fantastic and I hope they do something like this down our way in Portsmouth.

Shared a medium mixed grill with wife absolutely wonderful food , quality and quantity fabulous . Had planned have curry too but will have come again full up.

Quick lunch midweek. Was very quiet. 3 lots of lunch and drinks each came in around 12 per head. Nothing complex or exciting, but food came quickly and was good. Felt like a locals place rather than destination pub but imagine evenings and weekends feel very different. Absolutely fine for what we wanted

Had a lovely afternoon In smokey barrells for my birthday. There were 14 of us. Service was brilliant. Everything came out together, piping hot. Nothing missing. Food was delicious. Tasty, big portions. Good variation on the Food and drinks menu. Thank you to Steph for making sure everything ran smoothly from booking to us getting our food and Joshua for bringing all our food out . Highly recommend 👌

This spot used to be an amazing American diner and Indian smoke House. Now we came here wanting a quick stop to get some burgers and chips. However we was met with just a small Indian menu and a football crowd that deafened us. We had multiple people vaping indoors next to where we was eating and the door open with someone smoking while watching the big screen. Not at all like it used to be very disappointing wont be back sadly.

Food was good Service was average Waiter keep forgetting things The thing I didn't like was how are you allowing people to smoke and vape by the pool table area. So bad and making the place smelly with smoking and vaping. This should not be allowed. Bad experience bringing some friends the 1st time.

Great manager- always goes out his way to help. Comfortable seating and booths . Plenty of variety of yummy dishes , always hot and the function room is great for tribute nights. 👌 Fabulous.

Pub is so so, service was fine but the food was really really bad. Avoid the place if you do not want to get food poisoning. Went there with family for a quick lunch - dinner and nearly all of us (group of 7) ended up having diarrhea and being sick, myself personally been up till 4 next morning with sickness. Would give 0 stars the place needs proper food inspection done! Used to be regular customers for curry night take aways but surely not coming back ever again!

Visited this place to watch India vs NZ in the world cup semi final Curries were full of flavours and very spicy, the mixed grill was okay, not the best, not the worst, lamb chop was cooked well but the kebabs had too much garlic in Lager selection on draft isn't the best 6/10 #RineshRatings

Excellent Indian grill good value and very tasty , would definitely recommend.

Booked a birthday meal 6 adults and 4 children all under 5. Arrived to be seated and waited for about 5 to 10 minutes before any staff walking round acknowledging us standing there. We were seated at the back of the restaurant, people were sitting at the table and were asked to move by a staff member even though it stated it was reserved. Throughout the whole meal, they stood around us us in a merrily state, swearing and talking loudly. The reason for talking loudly is because of the music that's played that loud,so no one can hear a conversation. We asked how we ordered food, options which were either at the bar or on an app. We used the app as it was quicker and easier than to try and get to the bar area with people drinking and standing in the dining area. We couldn't fault the food, but the atmosphere with rowdy crowds of people standing around the dining area had really spoilt the family experience of a celebration meal. Definitely not kid friendly restaurant. I would have gone to a wetherspoons if I had wanted the same atmosphere experience.

A fantastic Indian desi pub/ restaurant with good draught beer selection.

Held a couple of our wedding functions. Subash was brilliant from start to finish. The team was brilliant too. Super accommodating and everyone LOVED the food. Would definitely hold future life celebrations there :) (Also they do the best masala cheesy chips, and lollipop chicken I have had in the UK. Calories should not be counted if engaging with the 2 menu choices described BUT tastebuds will Be happy.)

The two stars are for the waiter.. ! Food was so much red that the chef needs to realise that he poissnd it more in (food coloring) then anything else ! Ordered lamb ribs.. side of prawns.. side of chicken wings and garlic nan bread and the best think out of all was the nan bread (probably because he couldn't color t)

Food was fantastic 😋 we had a great nite... but only one thing let them down was the toilets 🚻 🙄 need to be looked at ASAP.....

Good here is ABSOLUTLEY fantastic! Me and my partner love the Indian grill places and we can say this tops a lot of them. The lamb Bhuna curry that we have is impeccable,the lamb is literally melt in the mouth. The atmosphere is also great inside the place,there’s live sports and music also pool and darts. We have been twice now within a month but I must mention the first time we went in the barmaid was quite rude,blonde bobbed hair. I would re think the staff situation but other than that it’s brilliant.

Pub was decent, but I will never step back into that place after one barmaids attitude, truly awful, she was rude, ignorant, arrogant and almost as if we were irritating her by just being there, blonde lady, bobbed to her shoulders, just vile, never again.

Went here for the with a group from work, on a Tuesday evening. Quite a large venue, with plenty of indoor seating, and a small outside area as well. It was quite quiet, being a mid-week evening. Unfortunately they seem to have run out of some beers - Guinness and John Smith's both being off, but other options were available. Food was very good, all of our party did eat, with the Chicken Tikka Sizzler being a popular choice - and very tasty as well. Portions of all the dishes our group had were very good. Prices for both food and drink were very reasonable. Would definitely go back here again.

Great pub, helpful staff and a really brilliant atmosphere. Brill for family meals. Must remember to take my darts next time.

Been a while since I’ve been as both my self my partner and little had food poisoning from here so never returned. Reviews seem to have improved but would still be reluctant to return because of said experience

Wow! Absolutely loved this place. Stayed at the grotty Travelodge nextdoor when I was at a trade show at the NEC just so I could go here and was not disappointed. Great combination of American sports bar with awesome Indian cuisine. Friendly atmosphere and attentive bar staff, loads of big screens to watch the footy whilst you eat and simply delicious Indian food. Probably the best naan bread I have ever tasted! Will definitely be back if I ever find myself in brum again.

Amazing food, great service and really friendly staff. Whilst down in area for work this was recommended to me, my colleagues and I have eaten here two nights running and never been disappointed.

Very disappointed as had high hopes based on previous reviews. Staff was polite and bar service was swift but thats the only positive from today. We ordered food using the online function which was simple enough. We waited like you do and saw table across the room a table receive thier food before us even though we ordered before. Went to the toilet thinking our food would arrive soon but was horrified to find no running water in the toilets to either wash hands or flush toilets. Returned to table thinking do i really want to eat chicken wings now without washing my hands to find out our order wasn't even placed as the terminal was unplugged. Once again staff was polite but didn’t seem that bothered that we had waited 50 minutes so asked for refund due to poor hygiene. Im not sure why this establishment is allowed to open without running water in both the ladies and gents toilets and would question just how clean the kitchen is .

Wonderful place, lot of space to sit inside and outide, you can order food and drinks online after scanning QR code. Pretty fast serving and amazing food! Definitely coming back! Really enjoyed time here :)

Went for my 50th and we had a such a great time. Food was very good, will be going there again.

Ordered the mixed platter. Food was nice, but very spicy and came out fast. Toilets had 4 sinks - all with no working taps in the ladies toilets. Walls in the toilets are make of plywood so cant be cleaned properly either. Shame as the staff are nice x

Went for a 40th birthday, we had a whole section for the meal and the food was absolutely delicious and very good portions. The staff was all friendly and nothing was any trouble. I went with a wheelchair user, a ramp was put down for us which was left down the whole time so we we could come and go whenever we needed. Will definitely be going back again.

I booked and cancelled after looking at reviews. Daughter said it was a good place so booked again. I was apprehensive about food but when it came, it was amazing - wonderful taste, flavour, hot and rapidly served following order. I liked it so much I told waiter who told chef and chef came out to us! I congratulated chef and the manager later. Husband and I are very good Indian cooks and have taught many family members how to cook. This will be my NO 1 place to go for food. Superb, excellent and decent prices.

It's a shame this place is being letdown by some careless customers when the event is on. The wash room [gents,] is so disgusting. Really need staff to keep an eye out. Otherwise I would have rated 5☆
