Smith's Bar and Grill in City of London, Westminster

I read multiple "poor" and "terrible" reviews on TripAdvisor that I almost cancelled my reservation. I am so delighted that I proceeded undeterred. My two dinner guests and I had a fabulous time. Great, attentive service by management and staff of many different nations. No request was too much with the food and drinks orders. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals: I am of a disposition where I have little or no interest in photographing a meal serving plate, so no visual evidence. I would not hesitate to return to Smith's Bar & Grill. Yes, the toilets are clean too.

El bar parece ser víctima de su propia popularidad: estaba muy lleno y muy ocupado pero creo que pueden haber tenido problemas en la cocina. Visité con mi marido el 16 de febrero como parte de un suave lanzamiento a mitad de precio - asado sin fondo. Llegaron los entrantes y el mío estaba frío así que pregunté si se podía recalentar. Mi marido dijo que su sopa era tibia, pero la bebió de todos modos. Pedimos nuestro plato principal y tardó más de media hora en llegar. El camarero dijo que era porque estaban atendiendo a más de 100 personas. Dije que no era un problema, pero por el hecho de que nuestra hora y media habría terminado antes de haber comido nuestro plato principal. Él dijo que sería flexible con nuestro tiempo para comer, que era razonable. Tengo que decir que los camareros eran muy profesionales y en general bastante alegres teniendo en cuenta la presión a la que estaban sometidos. Aunque logramos comer una comida de tres platos al final, fui bastante sanguino sobre la experiencia porque era a mitad de precio. ¡Si estuviera pagando el precio completo sería otra historia!

The food is fantastic here and the staff are brilliant too! My partner is celiac and waitress was so helpful, not to mention the menu is great gluten free! As the review suggests the best pork ribs you can have! Will definitely eat here again.

just booked for a casual drink & a bite to eat. Chilled vibe, and outstanding food. Been before when we have been on a London visit but seemed food was even nicer this year. Guy who served us advised a great Italian winer to go with our order, and he was proved right. Will definitely visit again. Great Value for money.

I recently booked Smith's for a birthday celebration with my girlfriend, and I was very impressed with every aspect of the experience. We were served by Fabrizio, who was the ultimate professional, with humour and expertise guided me to the most delicious steak I have ever tasted. I have been a steak man all my life, and I would rank it as one of the best. The atmosphere and location, were fantastic and definitely a restaurant I would recommend to friends and family. We will be back.

Fab quirky bar. Great interior decor. Super range of wines and cocktails, highly recommend the Margarita, which was also in the happy hour range between 5-7pm. Lovely friendly staff.

We ate here a couple of years ago and so made sense to come back this time. Place was as good as we remembered it. Ideally located by the canal in Paddington, it’s a nice walk from Little Venice or Kensington area. Good music, great food and pretty well priced, just a great spot to come to.

The food was exceptional, with perfectly cooked steaks and delicious sides that left us wanting more. The location added a magical touch to our evening. The food was incredible and the service was outstanding. We were served by Fabrizio and he went above and beyond. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and welcoming. The vibe of the restaurant was lovely and the settings and decor were amazing. we had the risotto seafood and pasta truffle and both dishes were outstanding. Would recommend and would go back again!

I highly recommend this place. I was really impressed and deeply amazed by this culinary experience. The restaurant has been open for a few years, the atmosphere is super cozy, all the staff i in the room is extremely friendly and helpful. I was there for my birthday. We booked there a few hours before closing time yet the staff was still incredibly professional and welcoming. Special thanks to Alfredo and his suggestions on the choice of steaks, cocktails and travel recommendations! Also many thanks to Maurizio for receiving us and sharing some of his life experience, such a great chap. It was my second time over and I'm always looking back fondly on my memories in Smith's. Great food but a little over priced for lunch . Starter, main course and water for two came to a little under £100 with the service charge.

Good for a business lunch. Buzzy, but tables well spaced, service slick (though the usual thing of having to wait for ages to even be asked about the bill let alone get it along with the card machine...) Highly recommended. Great menu, well executed.

There is a great atmosphere here and definitely a fun vibe throughout the restaurant. The food arrived quickly and the portions were generous. We ordered burgers, roast baby chicken, and fish- all of which tasted great. The cocktails were also delicious. The staff were friendly and attentive. We will definitely visit this restaurant again.

I've reviewed this restaurant before but wanted to comment again - purely because they keep doing what they do really well. Cool setting; cool menu; great beer selection and cool staff. We even managed a sit on the cool area by the window in prime position :-) We will definitely be back when we return to London in September.

A quirky modern venue with great tasting delicious food, lively atmosphere with friendly staff. Just had a meal here and have to say it was deliciuos. The burger was fresh and had a great taste, I had the risotto seafood and it was yummy. There is fish, chicken, pork and beef as mains with assorted fillings. They also pasta with truffle and have also on the menu fish & chips, salads and lots of starters. If you your not full and have room there is desserts as well. Well worth a visit!!

This restaurant was one of our favourites in the town and was very a reasonable price. The burgers were amazing, the chips were really good and the staff very helpful. Our waiter even suggested a beautiful red wine that matched well with our food and he was quite right! Thoroughly recommend a visit.

Booked up this beautiful little spot walking round on our first day in London - we came for breakfast this morning and the food service ambience and music is just perfect! We enjoyed it so much we came back for lunch, we had the tasting menu and it was great, every single dish was incredible, and will be back probably most days throughout our London visit! Highly recommend - all the staff so friendly and the service is quick and great quality food & drink.

Funky beautiful restaurant serving fab steaks. You need to go with a good appetite. We shared a calamari as a starter, which was good plenty of sauce. We both had beef rib eyes which were delicious. One portion of chips would easily have fed three. Good staff too. Highly Recommended!

We Booked this Smith's bar & grill, we are staying at hotel close by in Paddington, 10 Min walk to the bar, around lunch time, it did get busy ,they have a very friendly staff helping you out throughout your meal and never to busy for a quick chat, so well worth a visit. The calamari and parmigiana aubergine are to die for, great atmosphere.

Brilliant Place. Very accommodating - we had some kids in our group ;) We booked in as we heard the food its ridiculously good . Staff were super friendly. Decently priced drinks that tasted as expected, very well made. The risotto seafood was incredible, but I think the pork ribs were the top choice. If you are passing by, stop in, our experience was great! We would visit again in a heartbeat!

Came across Smith's on opentable by pure chance. Great reviews and good looking menu. Glad we booked in. It is of the call in Paddington, worth the small walk. Fabulous for lunch at a great price. Absolutely no complaints.Best beef fillet in town. We will be back again for drinks next week. Excellent service from Maurizio and the young girl. Couldn't do enough for us. Such a friendly bunch of staff. Hope to see you all again some day.

I booked here with my friends during the day for food. I had the fish and chips and it was incredible, my friends all had steaks and they said it was really good.We decided to come back at night for the dj and the atmosphere was amazing. All the members of staff were welcoming and we had the best night. Will be back again!

Me and my friend's booked for lunch and the food was to a high standard the prices are reasonable for the quality of the food, the truffle pasta was amazing and all the staff was friendly and very welcoming and made us all feel welcome would definitely recommend.

We just booked in for a quick drink and a bite and ended up staying all evening! The food looked so good - all four meals were excellent especially the fish and chips and the baby chicken! Drinks were good and especially the quality of the wine. Also the service and attitude of staff were excellent! We’ll be going back!

Nos sentamos a la mesa al lado de la barra, y estaba bastante vacío, así que esperábamos tener una buena (y rápida) comida. Revisamos las críticas y no se veían muy bien, pero aún así queríamos tener una buena experiencia. Desafortunadamente, todo fue cuesta abajo. Fuimos a los baños a lavarnos las manos, y había un desastre por todas partes con el papel higiénico. Después de esperar 26 minutos, ni siquiera una persona vino a saludar. Había un montón de personal rondando el bar y charlando entre sí, así que decidimos irnos. Parece que todas las otras críticas sobre este lugar son legítimas. Tristemente, pero no volveré. Tasty meal with a set menu. The food was delicious and the service was friendly and accomodating. Unfortunately the background music was quite loud making ordering and general conversation quite difficult. The staff and food were both wonderful.

Me and my friends booked Smith's for something to eat once we had landed as was next to our hotel we we will definitely be back here every night before heading to Central. All staff are friendly and very helpful food was excellent for the price and being vegetarian the menu options was very large! Will most definitely be back!

Myself and my friend booked here at least 3 times during our London vacation the food is delicious and very fresh, we had to try their 6 courses tasting menu and it was magnificent, still thinking about that Truffle sensation, wow!! Had previously visited this place for food years ago. Close to where we stayed in Kensington came here on Monday night for food and few drinks. We met Alfredo who took us to find tables for our party (there was a few of us) the food was fab, the cocktails & drinks were good and the price was extremely reasonable. The staff were great too- our waiter was lovely and always checking if we needed anything.Great decor. Defo recommend and will come back

We cannot thank Smith's team enough for a brilliant dining experience. It was my partners birthday. The steaks were cooked to our liking and the roasted potatoes were just like home. Thank you to Maurizio and Alfredo who were our amazing servers. The birthday singing took my partner by surprise but it was such a memorable night. A beautiful dinner. We will certainly return.

It was our wedding anniversary. We booked in advance which you must as it do gets very busy. We were in the Paddington area an hour before our 8.45 booking so we told them as we passed and they did call us as soon as a table was free. Which was a nice gesture from them. Then we were also given a glass of bubbly each and we felt very special. One of the other guests also bought us a drink as he’d noticed the fuss and it was just wonderful. We were very well taken care of by 2 people in particular. Alfredo and Fabrizio were brilliant, attentive and so friendly. The food was also spectacular and all our dishes were amazing. Excellent restaurant and great value for money. Most people go to the posh ones but this is much better. Excellent service, excellent food at a good price. We booked it, tried it and loved it. Definitely the best truffle pasta in town and the calamari were perfectly cooked and crispy. Can't wait to be back!

We had a look on here for ideas of nice restaurants in Paddington, and this restaurant came highly recommended. Wow, we were blown away. The staff were so friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant. We were unsure what to try. However, the waiter asked if we would like recommendations, and I'm so glad we did. The rib eye steak and seafood risotto was the best thing we have ever eaten! The vegetables on the side were a lovely touch. We both have drinks, a lovely daiquiri, and the best pint of beer, according to my partner. We had no room for pudding! We would highly recommend a visit but remember to book as it's busy as it's so good!

Vine a comer con un grupo de amigos. Primero lo bueno el capuchino y el servicio. y la empresa Tartar de atún muy soso, burrata nada que escribir a casa. Trufa tagliotelli un montón de mantequilla pocas virutas de trufa realmente pobre, filete de atún - pidió medianamente raro, rebanada delgada de medio presentado, 3 tomates cherry crudos y una patética salsa verde. Peor aún, el pudín de toffee pegajoso era un pastel insípido con un poco de salsa de sabor desconocido. Tiramisu estaba bien. Muy caro y no va a volver. Lo habría hecho mejor en Zizzi de al lado

Really good value with the bottomless wine alongside the sharer roast meals

The food was average and the parts that should have been warm were not. The service was variable and there was a saxophone player that was very loud whilst you were eating. Its in a really good location and it might get better but I would not be rushing back.

The whole experience was absolutely fabulous. The head waiter gave exceptional advice on what to eat.

This year was extra special as we celebrated a birthday and a proposal, and the team went above and beyond to make it unforgettable. We had a wonderful dining experience at smith’s bar and grill and would rate it 10 out of 10 stars! The food was excellent, and everything we tried tasted fantastic. Fabrizio, our waiter, provided exactly the level of service you’d expect from a high-quality restaurant—attentive, professional, and friendly. Our kids loved the food as well, and while it might not be the most child-focused restaurant, they do offer a kids’ choices, which worked perfectly for us. Overall, we highly recommend Smith’s for both the food and the service. We’ll definitely be coming back!

Food, ambience and services are good. As we went there for NYE masquerade ball, we were sooooo disappointed with the countdown and "unexperienced DJ" I guess. Very poor entertainment and DJ keeps on playing boring kinda african music and came to a point that I have to request english house mix dance music so atleast people will enjoy but still he don't know how to handle the crowd! I would suggest no need for that kind of DJ, much better play dance music from youtube! I will never ever come back here for NYE again but definitely comeback for a good meal.

Friendly greeting, taken to table that they prepere for our anniversary. Exceptional location in Central London, very close to Kensington, friendly staff especially Maurizio, who took the time to congratulate us on 25 years, and generally chat in a very pleasant manner. The food was amazing, can definitely recommend the truffle pasta, oysters and the rib eye. And a lovely touch at the end with a tradidional tiramisu. Thank you, all.

Lovely staff and a varied menu which worked well for our mixed family group of 7.

You know. It was average. The sommelier was great. Apart from that the food was rushed, the vegetables were not cooked. The table was crammed next to another table and we apologised to each other that we would interrupt each others conversations. And for 2 people we spent. £600. So yes it was disappointing. Last time I went it was better and less cramped.

For Christmas .. hmm . Not bad . The service was perfect but the food especially the main did not cut it . Hard roast potatoes . No special touches . I enjoyed , I ate it .. but felt like my Christmas plate could have been , should have been more memorable .

Fabulous british/european restaurant. This time we brought our daughter and partner who were equally impressed. We come every time we are in London. We always have the Mussels and then the lamb chop. Great flavors. Our waiter Maurizio was absolutely outstanding. We have been served by him before and he is amazing and very interactive. Thanks again for a lovely meal.

Without a doubt. The best steak house in London. We come every year from a couple to now a family with a baby. Alfredo is super attentive and to be fair the whole staff are too. Customer service like no other. Highly reccomend as we always do to anyone coming to Paddington.

We did make a reservation, and we're given a beautiful table by the window. Beautiful surroundings, relaxing atmosphere. Staff were fantastic. The food was delicious, good portions. We started with oysters and calamari which were amazing, then we both had the pasta truffle, it was out of this world. Great experience over all!

Quality restaurant. Great food. I am often made to feel odd for liking my steak well done and usually they come cremated but not here. I asked for my steak well done (no pink). When it arrived it was slightly pink but staff were fantastic and remedied the situation without making me feel uncomfortable or destroying the steak. it is really worth it for the quality of the food and friendliness of the staff members. By far the best restaurant we found in London.

This was by far the best restaurant we visited while on holiday in London. The food was unreal we couldn’t fault anything we had. The staff were super attentive very friendly nothing seemed too much trouble. I would definitely visit again and recommend it to others. We were served by a young man called Fabrizio and another gent who’s name we did not get and they were both great. Try the rib eye, its a MUST.

The place looks impressive, sadly the service and food isn’t of the same standard. Four of us on a busy Saturday night. It was loud inside and we couldn’t hear each other talk. No one particularly liked the food. My fish was so salty I couldn’t eat it. I had a Greek salad side which was okay, the girls ordered an artichoke salad which was double the price, half the size, it would have fitted on a serving spoon. The servers was polite but kept trying to rush us. Go to Gorgon Ramsey’s bar and grill in Mayfair. 10% more expensive but 100% better in every way.

Amazing venue to watch the boxing. Had an incredible server! Can't remember her name, but she helped us get a better table, and was so attentive, upstairs, glasses and ponytail. She deserves a raise!!

When we arrived we were seated on straight away by Maurizio whose service was very attentive. The general atmosphere of this place is lovely, very authentic and relaxing. The cocktails were lovely, and the food was delicious and cooked perfectly. Beef tartar was delicate, the fillet steak was mouth watering and we will be back. Maurizio and Fabrizio were perfect hosts and I would defiantly recommend coming here if you’re looking for perfect food and an overall great experience in London! Had a fantastic meal with wonderful hospitality from the staff at this restaurant in Paddington. The food was impeccablle, especially the truffle pasta. Outstanding both in quality and in service. The added extra of it being a birthday occasion made it even better. This is now my favourite place in all of London, Thank you Smith's team.

Smiths is our favourite place to go after work. The staff are always lovely to us, especially Maurizio. It also looks beautiful in there - the Christmas decorations are so pretty.

Food was excellent, service was really good and despite the restaurant being busy our food came in good time.

Went for lunch there today, 45 min between ordering and us having to chase them about starters. Staff said they'd check the about the starters, didn't let us know what happened. They likely forgot, another 10 min later starters arrived, no sorry or excuses. Mains arrived some 20min after they cleaned the starters plates. We had the burgers, they ask how you want to meat to be cooked. I asked well done and it was pink. They charged £16 for the service, did not apologise, did not ask how the food was or anything. Completely overpriced for the experience we had. I do not recommend at all.

We'd had a recommendation for this restaurant and we were definitely not disappointed! From the moment we arrived the service was fantastic, the cocktails are great and food amazing. We all had the Oysters starter followed by Ribeye steak and the truffle tagliatelle. We also crammed in desserts (cheesecake and the chocolate fondant) which were equally delicious! Definitely the best meal we had in London so far and all the staff were great, the service from our waiter Maurizio was simply the best, so attentive and friendly! It's not cheap here but you get what you pay for.... so go on, treat yourself!!
