Have been going here for years and years, every time we visit Scarborough, best fish and chips by far and Karen and Audrey are two absolute sweethearts, wouldn’t go anywhere else :)

Always friendly. Oldest running in Scarborough. Can remember their Mum and Dad running it. Great fish and chips. Reasonably priced too 😀

Cash only, the best fresh fish and chips and the best service. They are so friendly and helpful and fry everything separately. Well worth out of Scarborough beach to get there

Went to a local chippy that has the best reviews but this is by far the best chippy in Scarborough would 100% recommend this little chippy

Lovely small fish shop and reasonably priced. Cant go wrong. We eat here daily when on holiday in Scarborough. No queues to stand in well only little ones. So that's a win win as far as im concerned.

Fantastic food and really warm friendly atmosphere. I ordered Cod and chips and mushy peas and my friend ordered Scampi and chips and mushy peas and we shared a pot of tea between the two of us. The order was taken by a really friendly lady who made us feel very welcome and she was very helpful. The food arrived and it was beautifully presented and good size portions… the fish and chips was really lovely and mushy peas very tasty. My friend had the scampi and chips and mushy peas and again he said it was very tasty and the best he has had. Thanks for great service and excellent food.

Chose this over the coast shops as it's a little bit more residential and it was a great choice. An informal 4-tabled cafe and fish and chip shop with its regulars. Served by a friendly and hard-working lady. All food cooked to order...check out the batter on the cod on the attached picture and the menu. All served on a heated plate. Definitely a place to return to..

Kind and nice lady cooking fish and chips for us. It’s cheap and tasty. Literally the best fish and chips I had in Yorkshire so far.

I was recommended Smallfry by a long standing Scarborough resident and I’ve had no better fish/chips elsewhere, the 2 ladies who run the place are friendly, genuine and you leave with the feeling of wanting to return time and time again, the food is brilliant and very reasonably priced, keep it up girls ! If anything, please don't make the mushy peas tooooooo sweet !

Our go to every time we visit Scarbrough , fantastic cod and chips , lovely owners, we normally get them twice if we are in Scarborough for the week , cooked to order so still hot when we get back to the digs, can’t recommend enough

Oh. My. Goodness. What to say about Small Fry? One of my greatest worries is that the two ladies running it might retire one day, and the location of the best melt in your mouth chips and delicious mushy peas will vanish. They are part of the fabric of Scarborough, and have always the go-to fish and chip place for those in the know; my grandparents swore by them back in the 1980s, and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else! I once asked how on earth they manage to make the chips so delicious, and they're so modest, but I gather most chip shops do not use Grade A potatoes, but they do. It's more than that though; they do something magical. Also, they fry in vegetable oil, for which I am eternally grateful. Thank you ladies, you are a pair of genuises!

Looked on Google for a nice fish & chip shop & with the reviews me & my partner really wanted to go was a little bit of a walk but was definitely worth it, definitely recommend & when returning back to Scarborough will definitely go again. Was busy so that was a good sign, friendly staff & couldn't do enough for us. Had cushions for the chairs if you wanted, had hand sanitizer on each table, sachets of sauces with scissors if you couldn't open the sachets, seen to have thought of all the little things. Food and portions & the curry sauce was so nice! 5*

Only thing better then the fish and chips was the service. Highly recommend, no faults.

Had the best cod and chips and pot of tea that I've had in such a long time. The customer service and attention to detail was second to none. You very rarely get that these days. Made me my daughter and grandson feel so valued and the cleanliness was 100% perfect. They genuinely looked after all the customers in there. All in all a lovely experience will definately go again. Went a few years ago with my mum and sister and was so nice to see the two sisters still there.

A wonderful experience enhanced by the two sisters who told us they had run this shop for the last 40 years. Both with a lovely sense of humour and wit and good old fashioned service. They have no access to Internet so are oblivious to the endless 5* reviews and they gain customers purely by locals and word of mouth. Tucked away on a side street, the only downside is parking is pot luck. Again because of no Internet they only take cash but they are a stones throw away from Scarborough Town centre. We had called before arriving as we were cutting it fine to get there before closing time. Even on the phone, nothing was too much trouble. Onto the food, we both had fish (haddock, fresh in that day) , chips and peas. The batter was beautiful, light and crispy, not the slightest bit greasy. Chips were fresh and flavourful, peas just slightly too sweet for our taste. We also had a roll which was spread with fresh butter not margarine. When asking for a can of coke the lady ensured she reached to the back of the fridge reaching for a cold one explaining she had just restocked it for the next day. They also have a restaurant open during daytime hours. This is definitely top of our list next time we visit Scarborough.

The best fish and chips around. It's rare somewhere does fish, chips and peas well. Usually you get one or the two but this place has all 3.

Don't judge a book by its cover guys n' gals, this fish shop gave me a chunky portion as it happens! (Just be careful of young street drinker Alex he wants his hands on your chippy dinner!)

Lovely old school proper fish and chip shop . Cooked to perfection, fresh fluffy white fish with a nice even batter. All served up by the charming ladies . We had take out haddock and chips but there is a small restaurant.

Sat inside. Take away looked amazing. Inside was even better. Great prices, fantastic taste and serive the best ever.

Run by two friendly sisters this small restaurant provided superb cod & chips etc. Until today Scarborough had not been anywhere near being my number one place for good fish & chips. This visit changed everything, why drive to Whitby when this is available. Thankfully it cannot be described a corporate in any way.

Go to different fish and chip shops daily on my travels, so far this is the best out there. Unreal service. Good price. Light battered cod or haddock. Not greasy. Just bliss

Delicious. Fish had light batter. Haddock was thick & moist and cooked to perfection. The mushy peas were homemade. Service was friendly & accommodating. The best fish and chips that I have had.

I'm reluctant to say just how good this place is as there are only 4 tables and I don't want it to get busy! Seriously though, the best fish and chips I've ever had.

Nice little or as in the tile "Small" chip shop but what it lacks in size it makes up for in taste. The chips were yummy and just how I like them, the jumbo sausage was very tasty and the mushy peas were also very nice. I've marked them down one star because as with the name Small Fry so are their portions. I've never had so few chips anywhere I've eaten and I've eaten at lots of places. Would've marked them down lower but couldn't as they were very friendly and nice women running the place they just need to put more chips in the bag.

Picked this one out of the hat...looking for vegan chips. Fish,chips and mushy peas for me. Veggie option for AB. Will be back, found our new favorite chips in Scarborough. Mushy peas to die for, fish and chips perfect. For the full "Victoria Wood" experience you must dine in.

I have used them for a few months and can’t find a better fish patty in this town. The ladies are so friendly. Helpful and nothing is any trouble. So if you love fish patties. Then this is the place to go. 🤗

A small, quiet chippy, away from the busy areas yet well worth seeking out. The fish and chips were hot and the tastiest I've had for a long time. Service was exceptionally polite and friendly and I can't recommend this shop highly enough!

Quaint, run by 2 sisters for over 42 years, they certainly know how to fry. Delicious haddock fish supper, cooked to perfection! Large portion size and good price too. The ladies deal in cash only no card payments. Worth the walk to nearest card machine. Like going back in time to the good old days. Thank you Smallfry!

Excellent quality fish and chips and immaculately kept shop and surroundings. Definitely up there with the best fish and chips I’ve ever had. The only downside I would say is the price to portion ratio, but I suppose there needs to be a trade-off somewhere. To summarise, I would recommend to anybody who appreciates quality food.

This little 'chippy' has been run by the same two sisters for as long as I can remember and they are always polite and make you feel special when you call in. The quality of their fish n chips is second to none and they still wrap the food in paper, no boxes here. I usually call on on my way home from work on a Friday and I can honestly say, I've never been disappointed in my chippy tea. Well recommended.

Been my go to chippy for nearing on 10 years. Always fresh. Always crispy batter. Never lets me down. I'll always continue to visit when I come back to visit the family!

The best fish and chips on the East Coast. Run by 2 sisters who are friendly and enthusiastic with a ready sense of humour and cheerful dispositions. the fish, chips and pattie etc are done to order so piping hot with a crisp batter and heavenly chips. I would not dream of visiting Scarborough without calling in Smallfry and the only time I volunteer to take the wife shopping. I've tried the award winners in Bridlington and Pickering and they don't come anywhere near as good as this place.

I'm from whitby but the fish and chips here were about the best Ive had in a long time. Great service from lovely ladies too.

Only place along the coast to use vegetable oil as far as I'm aware, tried everywhere in Bridlington and Filey no joy finally found this place. Fish was spot on so was the chips the service was 100% chips portion was abit on the small side. The drinks fridge was cool, enjoyed hit the spot!

Wonderful fish and chips and brilliant service. The only chip shop I've found in Scarborough that fries in vegetable oil. Quite near the centre (straight across from North Street carpark). All tips are given to the Guide dogs for the blind. So tip heavily!

Absolute top quality food and service, in my humble opinion, well worth the 36 mile round trip to Scarborough from Bridlington, just for the fish and chips, not forgetting the scraps and gravy, 🤗💞

Friendly staff and a great low price

Excellent fish and chips and we found them by accident. We would go again if we find ourselves back in Scarborough. Cooked both fresh and to perfection, scraps added free of charge, everything was hot and tasty. Well done Smallfry.

Chips cooked in veg oil on a Friday!!! Cannot thank the ladies enough due to them only accepting cash, they trusted me to return and pay my bill as I was 100% contactless. Why 5 stars? Because they cook in veg oil on a Friday and meant I cook eat with my family

Went in been before not DISSATISFIED FISH PATTIES A MUST LOVELY STAFF, ONLY DOWN SIDE IN THE SOCIALY DISTANT TABLE ONE PERSON GOT UP TO ASK FOR THE BILL AND DIDN'T PUT HIS MASK ON AND WALKED PAST OURS WITHOUT ONE, NOT NICE LESS THAN 2.FEET AWAY.

Use this chippy every time I have fish and chips. The two sisters are lovely and the fish and chips are spot on. Never use any of the others around me. Saber loves the fish from here also and the sausage :-)

The staff were delightful, after 6 it was free parking on the road outside, and £16 to feed a family of three I thought was well priced.

Gorgeous quaint little place. The service is fantastic and the chips were good. We are a family of 5 inc an infant. Fully recommend to all.

Just perfect in every way. The freshest of haddock, chips made on the premises as is the mushy peas (old fashioned and a little sweet). The lady who served us in the cafe part and the gorgeous local ladies who made me and my sister so welcome meant we passed a deeply memorable afternoon in this wonderfully civilised retreat from an increasingly fractured world. If only there were more places like Smallfry to enjoy good simple food and friendly company the world would be a better place. PS I hope the owners enjoyed the cinder toffee I forgot to take with me!

My husband & myself absolutely loved Smallfry, fish & chip cafe & takeaway, North Street, Scarborough! The service we received from the 2 ladies that run this business was outstanding. The little cafe reminded us of a cosy Christmas Cottage with a small electric stove heater sitting under a very well maintained fish tank....very warm, comfortable & exceptionally clean cafe! The cod & chips, battered burger in a roll & mushy peas were just delightful! We had a very thirst quenching, enjoyable pot of tea for 2 with an extra pot of hot water. For dessert, my husband had 3 scoops of vanilla ice-cream which was served with an all butter shortbread finger....Yummy! The portions were very generous too! There is a good selection of food/drinks on the menu & prices are reasonable. I definitely recommend Smallfry for a visit whether you are a local person or visiting this lovely town.
