Very disappointed with afternoon tea. Sandwiches very bland, egg mayo, cheese and pickle and salmon. Scones looked lovely but so dry I was unable to swallow it without a drink. Jam served in a jar and the tea was cold. Lovely tea room though and staff were nice. Just a shame about the tea,

Can't comment on the food as didn't even make it thru the door. Tried ringing earlier in the day, no answer...staff then told me "No, we don't answer the phone,we're too busy"Got ignored whilst waiting for a table, when I tried to get the staffs attention was just barked at that they were serving tables so we'd have to wait. Sorry to say I wouldn't rush back.

Having passed before and it was always busy today as it was quiet me husband suggested we visit. We waited to be seated and when the member of staff came to the door I asked if they could cater to my egg and nut allergy. She spoke across to another staff member who I presume was in charge and the response "oh no that's too difficult" not even a sorry or a conversation to see if they could offer a reduced menu or even a slice of toast... suitably humiliated we left and came home as I was too upset to try anywhere else.

I've never been in "Small Talk Tearooms" before but I have walked past in many a times.Since Lockdown has begun easing in England me & my friend decided on lunching here & thank goodness we did because it was a delightful experience. The Staff were so welcoming & was great to see them looking after themselves with the appropriate PPE that is needed because of COVID-19 these days. They were easy to talk too, friendly & so considerate. Special shoutout to the lovely lady who wanted to know more about my latest "Rivers of London" Novel, we both loved her.The Afternoon Tea was delicious, even though we hadn't made a reservation the Staff were happy for us to have it since they had the stock available. We shall we back again no ifs or buts about it!

This has become my ' favorite local' to meet up with valued friends for tea and a bite to eat, always busy, but the wait to be seated is well worthwhile, cosy charming and comfortable settings take me back in time to a different world, it's a lovely escape from the everyday mundane tasks, and ideal to stop for a refreshing break during a shopping trip, My very first visit here soon after Small Talk tearooms opened up brings memories of Fentimens pink lemonade!! gorgeous and perfect to quench our thirst after a shopping afternoon with my Daughter.Everything is fresh and appetizing, the recent cheese toasties and omelets we tried were very moreish!staff are efficient and friendly, also polite, which goes a long way in my book, Thank you Small Talk, love this place, highly recommended, will keep coming back!

We came here for coffee and cake when shopping in Romford. We were pleased to see a new coffee shop and decided to give it a try. The coffee and cake was fine - nothing special, but it was nice have red velvet cake which is my favourite. However, what really let's this place down is the staff. To be far, there was a European young lady who we observed waitressing other tables who was really polite and helpful and professional Other members of staff, including the more mature lady who served our table, did not have the attitude we would expect when working in hospitality and this is the reason we would not return. We could also hear staff talking and moaning when away from tables and this is not something we would expect and is something management need to address, as this place has the potential to be good if the above are addressed.

Please see previous review. The next day I contacted the tearooms and spoke to the manager who said the owner would call me. He called me about 20 minutes later and asked me all about it, I told him how terrible it was and he said he would look into it and call me back, this was on the 9 January and now it's the 25th and have heard nothing from him so it shows how much he cares about his customers, just wants the money.

Lovely place. We had breakfast Tea tea for three that seemed weak and tasteless. My daughter had poached eggs which were disappointing and my wife and I had toast which was cold and came with butter that was so cold it was difficult to spread. Very overpriced and had much better tea and toast elsewhere for a fraction of the price. Will not go again unless they serve better tea and hot toast.

Don’t bother going. Visited one afternoon at 425pm with my elderly mum. We only wanted a coffee and possibly a slice of cake. An aggressive waitress stopped us as we were about to sit down and said they were closing. I said I thought closing was 5pm and she replied we are cleaning the coffee machine is that ok! so no we can’t serve you. Can’t believe the attitude. She was mopping the floor. I think a manager needs to check on what the staff are doing as turning customers away so they can leave dead on 5pm is not good business. Looks lovely inside but we won’t be returning.

We came here after having pre booked (which is necessary) I have an allergy to latex so warned them but was told there might not be anything they could do as they don’t make the cakes there and order them in. Luckily all was fine and no allergic reaction at all! We came during the Xmas holidays and the staff were friendly but not that attentive, having said that it was quite a busy day.The sandwiches were small but enough, we had smoked salmon, cheese and pickle, egg mayo, prawn cocktail and coronation chicken. All nicely cut into fingers. The cakes were really quite large and we ended up taking them home. No fuss was made about that which is lovely! The scones were very tasty and presented well. The afternoon tea experience was lovely and we had a friend visit from the US who thought the place itself was very quaint too.I think it was a little pricey, bearing in mind I have been at other places with the same price but the quality was better. I would suggest a price tag of nearer £20 but I would go again.

Booked afternoon tea for a friends birthday at a cost of £25 for two people. I completely agree with the review made on the 28th August, 2019. Presentation was nil, no salad garnish or crisps, bread very cold with very cheap fillings, i.e. Cheese, ham and egg mayonnaise. (4 fingers of sndwiches each). Cakes were very poor, square of lemon drizzle, madeira, chocolate and coffee, not at all appetizing. Scone with a small jar of jam and clotted cream. When we have had afternoon tea somewhere else it has always been presented nicely, triangle sandwiches with different fillings and nicely decorated. Cakes have always been different, i.e. fruit tarts and dainty cakes not chunks of dough. What they gave us was worth no more than £2. Terrible waste of money, would have been much off going to a pub and having a good meal or going somewhere else where they do not "rip you off" WOULD NEVER GO BACK THERE.

Decided to try this place after seeing so many people queueing outside so often! Surprised myself by liking it more than I thought I would. The prices are reasonable and the food is very good. Hubby enjoyed his full English and said he’d be back and it bugs me to have to say I didn’t like my choice! I had the foraged mushroom eggs benedict and it looked great. I think I just made the wrong choice as I found it a bit too rich for my taste buds. So I’ll be returning and will try something else as it’s a surprisingly nice place to sit and have tea, cake, brekkie, brunch. Only slight niggle is that hubby got a lovely big pot of tea (nearly 3 cups) and I had one pretty small cup of coffee for the same price! A coffee pot or big mug would’ve been fairer.

If you want afternoon tea then you have to pre-book it, but I dont know why as judging by the coldness and hardness of the bread they'd been pre-made and refrigerated. Could make a batch and do afternoon tea drop ins. Well filled though but no real choice, was not asked about allergies. Despite having a menu of teas we were not asked what sort of tea we would like. It was re-inforced that the tea was only supplied once and a cost incurred if any more requested. Well as the teapot provided only just about gave three small cupfuls, it was well gone by the eating of the scones. How much for a top up of hot water. Came across as very stingy.Apart from a strawberry on top of the "clotted" cream there was no attention to how the afternoon tea was presented. A little salad garnish and a few crisps, as provided on a normal sandwich I noticed, would have gone a long way to improve it. Only one eating plate provided so sweet had to go on top of where the savoury had been. I don't expect Ritz standards but come on. On the whole it tasted fairly nice with the lemon drizzle cake being the nicest thing. The service was ok but purely perfunctory, the surroundings were quite pleasant but it was extremely noisy. And no toilets!I know by law toilets do not have to be provided as alcohol is not served but really? (Don't know what happened to the proposed law in 2016) As it must be a 50 cover place and the public toilets are a fair clip from it, I feel that is extremely poor customer service. Don't know how parents with children get on, in my experience they always want a loo visit.

I'd been told about this place and ventured in alone one afternoon. It was fairly busy and I was quickly shown to a free table where I ordered tea and cake - I opted for the Victoria Sandwich - you can always judge a good sponge! Decor is delightful! Lots of mismatched dining chairs, crochet table cloths (under glass - very sensible), bookcases and curios. Tea was served in a pot (despite the variety of teas on display, when I ordered tea I was not given a choice) and looked a little on the weak side, but actually brewed to a decent cuppa. The china is plain white - a good, clean choice, in my opinion. The sponge was ok - perhaps a little on the dry side. Service was helpful and friendly. I called in this morning, Monday 15th July to book a table for two on Saturday 3rd August. I had got my information online that the cost for tea for two would be £22:00. Imagine my surprise when I was told the cost is now £25:00, I expressed my shock and was told by two assistants that “they can do nothing about the website, it is nothing to do with them”. I ask who is it to do with then because Small Talk Tearooms cannot be contacted other than by calling in or phoning. Most unsatisfactory. I was really looking forward to taking my grandma out for afternoon tea for her birthday. The place looks lovely inside and the place is always packed (people sometimes even queue to get in) so maybe my expectations were quite high because of that. When we arrived, the staff were all very polite. We ordered a pot of tea and a pot of coffee. The coffee was served in a cup not a pot (not clear on menu) the tea was very weak even though we left it to brew. The waitress made it clear that only the first tea and coffee was included in the price which is very unusual for afternoon tea (quite stingy .. After all how much does a tea bag and hot water cost?!)The afternoon tea consisted of an extremely limited range of sandwiches. There was egg mayo (tasteless), ham with pickle (nice) and finally an excessive amount of tuna and cucumber sandwiches!! (I felt like they'd run out of fillings so made extra tuna ones to compensate! Or probably because it's cheaper than the smoked salmon you usually get on an afternoon tea!) The scones came with jam and the smallest amount of clotted cream possible...I think they ration it (again another cost saving measure). The cakes were nothing special and were not something you'd serve on an afternoon tea..they looked like the tray bakes you can buy from Godfrey's - unfortunately there was nothing dainty or quaint about this afternoon tea! The sandwiches were freezing cold, obviously pre prepared and came straight out of the fridge and to be honest I make better at home. I've had cheaper afternoon teas which have been miles better! Such a shame as Romford needs more smaller businesses like this but sadly we found the experience very average. I can't comment on the lunches - maybe they are better but sadly i won't be returning for another afternoon tea.

This was our first visit to this tea room in Romford, always very busy on most days but we were able to get a table straight away, My first impressions, were very good, we had scones and tea and coffee , the service was quick and everything nicely presented. The only one thing that I myself did not like, was the way we were greeted at the table, when asked what we would like to eat and drink, the waitress seemed to think that calling you Darling or My Love, was ok, ever the people waiting were spoken to in this way, which is totally unprofessional, what happen to Sir or Madam, after all this is a Tea Shop ?

Had a brunch today. Excellent service and food, could not fault. Had a bagel with avocado, soft poached eggs and salmon and my daughter had half full english breakfast. We both had pots of tea (big choice) served in china teapots and tea cosies. It was like stepping into my grandmother's dining room right down to the crochet table cloths and ornate fireplaces. I will return with my mother as she is in a wheel chair and there is plenty of room to take her in. So nice to find a good value place to eat in Romford that takes you back in time.

Lovely old style tea room with a modern, classy feel. Service was excellent, and have to give this 5* rating as couldn't fault anything. Only one tiny suggestion please: could customers pay at table instead of at the counter? Would make the experience even better.

This is a great place to relax before during or after a shopping trip. They’ve managed to turn a unit in a shopping centre into a space that looks and feels like your Granny’s living room. I had Cream Tea with my daughter two fresh warm scones butter Wilkins jam and plenty of cream. The choice of teas is mind boggling I had the Kashmir chai which was delicious really delicately spiced and the prices are very reasonable. Special mention for the service which was helpful and friendly but not overbearing. Go treat yourself

At last some where in Romford with a bit of class. Booking for afternoon tea is essential. This newly opened tea room is wonderful. The food was beautifully presented and very tasty. Comfortable seats. It was very busy but the waitress was very attentive even recognising some of us from our hospital jobs.

My mum spotted this tea room open a couple of weeks ago and said “we must go in there it looks wonderful”. So this weekend we was shopping Romford and we went in here. Oh my I could of sat in there for hours on end. The staff and lovely and the tea rooms and just wonderful it’s like taking a step back in time. We have the cream tea for 2 and the scones was lovely and warm and plenty of tea in the teapot for 2. We can not wait to go back for afternoon tea for 2 at just £22 for 2 what a bargain.

This tea room is new to Romford and even if you have to wait in the queue worthwhile. First when you enter the tea room it is like stepping back in time to your Grandma's best room in 50s furniture from her younger days or even Great Grandma's day. Tables all have a glass covering because they have a crotcheted cloth underneath. Their are old fashioned display cases with the usual trinkets inside, ranging from fruit dishes to ornaments. Should you want the set afternoon tea you need to order it in advance. However, that is really not a problem. They serve breakfast, which includes eggs Florentine and Benedict. Lunches which range from jackets to omelettes, sandwich platters and even soup, all served very well presented and by well trained polite staff. You then have a choice of afters, cakes etcetera and a cream tea, served with two 'warm' scones, clotted cream, butter and jam. Again very well presented. There is a huge selections of teas from basic English Breakfast Tea right though to the more exotic fruit infused teas.It was a lovely tranquil experience, the staff are all very polite and only to happy to help. We ate the jackets followe by the cream tea, (it was a treat from my daughter). Plus the wonderful teas. Nice to get teapots that are ceramic and covered in a tea cosy to keep the second cup warm. The jackets were cooked well and you have a choice of two toppings and a small salad included in the price. What was really nice was to get the scones served warm and they were a good size. The staff don't hurry you if you wish to sit awhile. Time we had a really good tea shop in the area again. With the quality of the food, service, and value for money, quality outstanding. It is little wonder it is packed at lunchtimes. As I say though, it is worth the wait and the staff apologise constantly until they can get you seated. I will definitely be returning very soon and will be recommending it to all my friends. I can see the other tea shops losing out to this new one very quickly, once people realise where it is and how good it is. Well done to the owners and to all the staff.

The size of the shop is on the small side which contributes the seating areas feeling quite compact and very close to the till. This causes you to feel like your in a rush and need to eat & drink quickly.
