I've been coming to the Slowboat since I was a little girl, and can't understand the poor reviews. It's been my favourite meal for 25 years. 😂 It's slightly pricier than other takeaways, but the portions are very generous. We introduced our toddler to the Slowboat today and had mixed deep fried starter C, followed by beef in green pepper and black bean sauce, duckling with fried sliced vegetables and prawn chow mein, all delicious and so much food that most of our main courses will be lunch tomorrow.

How on earth a takeaway can extract all taste from food and then serve it to the public is beyond me. Without a doubt the worst meal I have ever had. Appearances are never deceptive - this place looks like sh*t and the food tastes like sh*t. Avoid

We tried new things on Saturday for a change and they were all super Thank you ,we can’t fault you and great value for the money you charge which is very reasonable

Been having their take aways for about 3 years, probably twice /month. Never had one complaint, consistently good quality, delivery service is good too. Cant see why some people give this poor rating,

Best take away in the area We live about 9 miles away Comes within 10 minutes of asked for time and is still excellent temperature Can’t beat value for money and great food

We usually have Slowboat take away twice a month, Always find the quality to be very good and consistent. It's great they deliver and they tell you approx how long delivery will be and it's always been + or - 5 miins, so fine. Can't understand the bad reviews, makes no sense to me as regular customer. We've got friends who recommended Slow boat a couple of years ago, they still do as we occasionally used to share & dine together....belfore lockdown.

Best cantonese food in Cheshire! Tried numerous other take aways and no others come close to the standard of food at the Slowboat! Absolutely delicious! Looking forward to ordering again from you soon :-)

Fish and chips for tea tonight... how can it be cooked so badly?! Greasy, soggy chips, and fish that had fat oozing out of it. Vile. Improve your standards!

Hands down the single worse Chinese takeaway experience I have ever had. The food took 1hr 50m to arrive....When it did, as you can imagine, the food was warm and mush! I was offered £3 off of food that was inedible. I have now passed on my findings to health & safety.

Would definitely recommend this Chinese! The food was so lovely and the service was great! We are so glad to find a lovely local place! Will definitely be ordering from here again.

Visited here earlier on in the month and booked a table for the Sunday Banquet. Plenty of choice for starters which was great (loved the salt & pepper chicken wings) Not so much choice for the mains but for what we chose it was a nice meal. My other half filled up on starters so didnt want a main. For £15.50 each you cant go wrong. Will definitely be visiting here again

First off, this is the first and hopefully only one-star review I have ever / will ever write (just so you know ....)We went here only because our usual Chinese takeaway was shut and this happened to be nearest. We have a 'combination' starter which for 13 quid consisted of a variety of maybe half a dozen different things, including rice, shovved into the same box. I wish I'd taken a photo of it, it looked like something from an autopsy. For example what I guess was meant to be the 'prawn toast' was some oily batter wrapped around a crab-stick. It also involved something involving "chicken" and creamed corn which I would rather not think about.For a main I had beef curry, which was greasy beef and onion in a brown gloop, whilst my wife had "chicken" and cashew nuts which ws border line inedible. All for a bargain £27...Never, ever, ever, ever again.

Delivery service was quick but did not enjoy the meal, the meat was greasy and fatty. The meal was expensive considering the portion sizes

Gutted have to write this review as the chow mein was really nice, however were really stingy with the meat, especially as paid extra for duck, which consisted ofor just 2 bits of duck, no beef or pork and just couple bits of chicken. Won't order from here again

Never have I ever had sweet and sour king prawns that I have enjoyed more than from this place, great food and really good delivery service

Like most reviews for this place i have been using this takeaway for a number of years and they have gradually got worse. The shop frontage is overgrown and the signage and canopies are filthy. Its at this point (if you're collecting your food) you should probably turn away! This time the food was below average, and not worth the prices they charge. You're better off using one of the other Chinese takeaways in Castle or Northwich.

After a couple of beers next door in the pub we decided to grab a take away. The menu is extensive and the place was obviously busy - sadly the card payment machine was not working due to connectivity issues and the process became somewhat protracted waiting for the wifi to reconnect which was a shame.

Absolutely shocking. When you pay £4 or more for salt n pepper chips you expect that they would add more seasoning/ veg than a few onions... absolute joke. Awful takeaway that has gone downhill year after year. It’s been by local Chinese for 24 years and the reality is that they overcharge you for poor quality food. End of rant

I have lived in Hartford for 19 years and in that time I have had about 4 meals from the Slowboat. They have never been great which is why I normally avoid it. I remember wanting to take a meal back a few years ago an didn't because one of my daughters said it would be embarrassing.

Ordered a take away whilst staying with family who live in the area. The food we ordered was not what we received. Two dishes were wrong. Satay chicken was replaced with an odd curry like consistency dish with numerous random veg in it and a sauce that was tasteless. Chicken chow mein was replaced with lumps of noodles underneath enormous slabs of broccoli and carrot and chucks of weird tasting chicken. It bore no resemblance to any chicken chow mein I’ve ever had before.

Yes that's right, we called in to pick up a menu and was told they don't have any??? After studying a phone snapshot we ordered our meal which I must say was absolutely average. Not much more I can add.

Slow boat has always been disappointing. Hence very rarely use them. But tonight was worst ever. ‘Vegetables in black bean sauce’. There were some black beans sloshing around in the soggy over cooked mess, yet there was no flavour at all. Even the boiled rice was poor (how can a Chinese takeaway screw up boiled rice?).

I've never reviewed a Chinese takeaway before as I am generally easy to please. I love Chinese food! This food was so disappointing however so I am having a moan!

First time I’ve eaten from here and would never return, I ordered the king prawn fried rice with vegetable curry which comprised off fried veg with nasty Dina class curry poured over it by the time I got home the curry had set into a jelly, the rice dish was undercooked rice which was greasy and tasteless absolute garbage spend £17 I asked for prawn crackers while we waited 20 minutes for our food to be charged again I declined .. they need a chef desperately one of the worst takeaways

Stopped in on the way to a friends house picked some of the usual choices that I’d have elsewhere off the menu and was really impressed. The food was great quality and had good taste to the sauces. I seen some bad reviews but can assume they are mostly from people having food delivered rather than collecting it so it’s hot and fresh.

No puedo recordar la última vez pedí un llevar, solía ordenar mucho pero me he resistido la tentación por un largo tiempo. Mi favorito siempre fue el barco lento, así que cuando me decidí a pedir un último viernes me buscó el número de teléfono....

Servicio pésima. Pedir comida a las 6:45 como me dijeron que luego de estar listo a las 7:15 (ten cuidado que dicen que lleva 30 minutos no importa lo ocupados que están) llegamos a las 7:30 pensando que sería preparado, no pensando que tendríamos que esperar 45 minutos adicionales y para ser cocinada. Cuando finalmente conseguimos nuestra comida que recibimos sin una disculpa ni nada. Que esperas después de tener que esperar tanto tiempo que sería ebullición cálido como les gustaría, pero cocinado NO hacía frío. Así que, en general, tardaron una hora y 25 minutos para producir comida fría. No vamos de nuevo! Servicio lento, ahora sé por qué se llama el SLOWboat.

Yo y mi pareja ir al menos una vez a la semana es nuestro placer y nunca nos quejamos. El personal es amable y la comida es muy bueno, nunca tuve que quejarme 😄

All the meat was like rubber (Beef, Pork and Chicken) and even after chewing many times would stay in one piece. The 'beef' was just strings of fat. I also found metal shavings in my rice was topped the whole thing off. Slow Boat used to be a lovely take away but this is no longer the case. £25 for a load of inedible rubbish. Avoid.

Having spent the night in A&E, my boyfriend ordered a takeaway for when I returned. Needless to say, I came home to him lay on the couch feeling sick having eaten about 4 mouthfuls of food before throwing it away. Hungry & fed up, I warmed up my 'special curry'. To say it looked unpleasant is a compliment! It literally appears as though someone had thrown up in it, dumped in several whole mushrooms & dumped half a pot of pepper in it. It tasted similar. As did my boyfriend, I dumped it in the bin, feeling vile & went to bed hungry.

I use this regularly. Food is good, service is good and very prompt. I'd recommend the Fried Chilli Beef and Singapore Chow Mein

Good service, great tasting food from a wide menu. We would definitely recommend. We have not tried the delivery service yet.

This was by far the worst food I have ever tasted in any takeaway ever. I passed and was hungry. I wish I had carried on walking. Staff were pleasant and well mannered.

I ordered the deep fried combination box C for a treat for my husband, with Valentines Day being the next day. What a disapointment, the pickles coleslaw, cucumber and onion were sooooo old that they could not be eaten, so the duck pancakes just had duck and sauce in them. I ordered chips and rice for my 10 year old, and the chips arrived in a dark brown and shrivelled state, so they went in the bin, and I had to start cooking for her when it was supposed to be a takeaway night. What a total waste of money, won't be doing it again.

This Chinese had poor hygiene inside, it was dirty and unpleasant. The food was horrible, very greasy. I had the fillet steak Cantonese style, very chewy and grisly. Service was very slow including delivery. Do not eat from here.

Ordered sweet and sour chicken, duck & chips. No pancakes... 20 mins later pancakes & to discover the rest of the food was under cooked & cold. When complaining the manager decided that she was in the right and I was wrong. Eventually got a refund. Never would I advise this place & never would I return. Shame on you!!! 3 years of custom gone.

Just returned from a visit having placed a takeaway order. Whilst waiting witnessed one of the young waiting staff sneeze into her open hands. Was offered a bless you by assistant!! She carried on preparing food without washing her hands, nor any comment about doing so from supervisors. I watched carefully to ensure she had no involvement in my order. As she spent most of time taking phone orders fortunately she didn't. If she had I would have declined and explained the reasons. Absolutely disgusting. Never again will I visit. Suggest better staff training in hygiene practices.

I ordered chicken in black bean sauce and egg fried rice.... The rice had never seen a frying pan... The chicken was from frozen I'm certain, it had that disgusting cheap taste to it and the 'Black Bean Sauce' was more like a 'Brown Thin Drizzle'... Absolutely awful taste to it, I tried adding things to it to make it edible at least but it was no good, there was no saving it.

Over the years I've been a regular customer and the standard of food has been great. I've been recommended many other Chinese takeaways in that period but stuck with my local. The box of starters is great value and the chilli hot chicken a definite "must try." The delivery service is first class.

I went here as the other takeaway I go was closed. I ordered for delivery and that was about the only thing that was good about the place it did come very quick. As for the food it was horrible tasted like it had been warmed up and the chow main was burnt. I will not be going here again.

Chinese takeaway that delivers quality Chinese food to your door at a price that won't break the bank

Late order. However, food was at best stale, tasted as though it had been microwaved / reheated. Expensive, won't order anything from them again.

Ordered a delivery for the first time, told it would be here within an hour and it wasn't. Called up to chase after 90 mins and told that they were just leaving with our order now!, asked if it was fresh as I didn't want it if it wasn't and told that it had just been made. Delivery driver lovely but opened the food and it was stone cold and obviously sat there for well over an hour. Very disappointed and won't order from them again and certainly will not recommend to anyone!

The Slow Boat is always very busy. If you ring an order through for collection, it is always ready relatively quickly. If you want delivery, it can be quite quick, but at busy times be prepared for a little wait. The food is always plentiful, we never eat it all, & delicious.

When this place first opened it was brilliant on all fronts but went down hill and hasn't climbed back up again. My oven went caput so I had to take emergency action. Having had a pint I would not drive so ordered a meal for two for delivery. The trouble with having an oven go on you is you cannot warm up lukewarm food when it arrives. That is point one. Point two is I give the food 2/10. The best thing I can say is the girl who took the order on the phone was charming and the guy who delivered was pleasant.

This takeaway is only a 5 minute walk from my house so is VERY convenient!!! I must admit I do like the food, it is tasty. That is about all the positive things I can say about the place. The negatives are endless however,The staff have their favourite customers and therefore treat accordingly!Delivery is appalling, Larger £££ orders get higher priority!Being local and wanting a delivery is not taken seriously.Some staff are VERY rude!Food can be cold,and overcooked. The seaweed is usually soggy and not crisp!When you ring to make a complaint, it never gets rectified in a normal manner! They will send out a new item of food but you have to wait for it...........this can be anything up to an hour and a half!The staff can be seen cooking from the counter inside, their hygiene standard have a lot to be desired, no hair nets visible!!There are other Take away's near by and most do delivery for a small charge!

We ordered £25 worth of food from here this evening, one had shredded chilli chicken, the chicken was actually solid, and the meal stank of vinegar! The meat in the special chow mein was chewy, but again the chicken was solid, like it was over cooked and he whole order was tasteless, i don't know who've they have cooking in their kitchen, but we're not going to waste money there again!!!

I live very local to the slow boat and was good to order food from after working late. The other night I found three dark black hairs in my food, which put me off my food completely. As I have blonde hair it couldn't be mines and my partner has short hair. I called to say I wasn't happy they did offer to send us some new food but I am put off for life now!! So dissapoited.

I don't even know where to start.....called and ordered and was told 10-15mins, got there after 15mins and waited another 20mins and had time to see the grime that covered the switches and plug sockets. The prawns tasted off, it was so greasy, I don't know how they have the nerve to charge the price they do for such poor quality.

Had a prawn dish that was not edible. Prawns were well past their sell by date. I rang to let them know, so that they did not continue serving them, but overheard the assistant talking to the manager who said 'they can have another portion, but they will be from the same lot' Not great.Will not be using them again.

one of the best Chinese around! although have noticed that the me u has gone up in price and the portions have gone slightly smaller! devlievery can be a bit slow on a Thursday,Friday, Saturday as can take up to 2 hours! although food still arrives warm! salt and pepper chicken needs some improvement and salt and pepper chips need to be spicer! but overall LOVE THIS CHINESE!!!!

As a vegetarian living with a meat eater it can be hard to find somewhere that caters for both of us. The slow boat is by far the best chinese around Cheshire. I highly recommend the Prawn toast and the soups. Delivery tends to be quick and have always had good service. We order from here on a monthly (if not more often) basis.

I always come last for the choice of take away we have as my wife and son prefer Indian food.It was over an hour late cold and greasy for £25 it was awful this is the first time ever we have had a poor meal from The Slow boat.Hope it can pick up soon as I love Chinese food

We ordered a take away at 7:00. We where told the food would be with us within the hour. An hour later we phoned and they said it would be here soon. A nother hour past and we phoned and they can up with excuses and said it was near us. 30 minutes later it was still not here. They said they would get it to us soon at 10:00 3 hours later. We knew that by that time the food would be cold so we cancled the order and had to make a quick meal as it was so late
