We discovered Sladers Yard Cafe some years ago and have always been impressed by the consistent excellent quality of the food and service. Our last visit (December 1st) was no exception. The fish pie was wonderful - the best I’ve had. Their fish stew - my usual choice - is fantastic. It’ll be the pan fried scallops next time! If you’re planning on a visit to the West Bay area treat yourself - you won’t be disappointed.

We found this place by a lucky accident. It’s got a lot of character and a great atmosphere. We enjoyed having a look around the art gallery and then settled for a yummy lunch. The goats cheese salad was the best I’ve ever had outside of France and my husband really liked his butternut squash and leek soup. The service was excellent as well. If we are ever in the area, we will surely be back.

My friend and I visited here on Friday which we have done many times and always enjoyed a coffee and a slice from one of their excellent cakes. How ever..yesterday there was a problem in the baking which they admitted to. There was not a lot of selection apart from muffins and scones which we did not want. The only cake left on offer was a chocolate polenta . We both decided to have a slice each. Unfortunately this wasnt cooked properly either and the polenta was still hard and it had some very strange taste to it. We called the waitress over and explained the problem to her and she took them back to the kitchen. We both heard a shriek of exclamation but no one came out to apologise . No refund was offered and quite frankly their customer service stinks. It a shame because the cakes are usually wonderful. However..the happy ending was we found a delightful bistro called Cherries on the harbour area and the contrast in service and attitude was a delight. Sladers take note. Arrogance is not attractive when in business. They just took our money without even looking back.

Lunch there today and felt compelled to write a review. Soup and fish stew - really exceptional. Ambiance is a rustic cafe attached to the gallery and did not expect such a first rate menu The gallery was interesting also. We were very lucky to get a table so I would advise pre-booking I had a very good crab salad and my wife had an excellent fish soup. It's nicely out of the way of the tourist bussle of West Bay, a little oasis of calm. I would definitely use it again, much better than most of the drab little cafés down there.

Not an extensive menu, but adequate. Having chosen our food, we waited 30 minutes for our breakfast to arrive. We were shocked even at the look of the food before we started eating - my scrambled eggs had been scrambled until they were small lumps, all the food was cold except for the pancetta, there was no butter on the toast, my husband's poached eggs were rock hard. Seemed an odd combination to serve with salad, but that would have been forgiven and the long wait if the quality of the food had made up for it. Such a pity has we have enjoyed great food there in the past, but after this experience we will never be returning. £30 is too much to pay for such a dreadful meal.

My friend ordered a scone and a coffee, the service was so slow we had to ask if they had forgotten us, all we had ordered was 1 scone and a soup of the day (fish). My soup had 3 lumps of fish in a clear and seasonless soup, totally flavourless and my friend left her scone - what a waste of money. We shall not be going back.

We liked the look of this lovely place so went in to look at the Art in the Gallery. As it was such a calm and beautiful building , and it was around lunchtime, we decided to eat there. We ordered two sandwiches and two soft drinks and sat at an outside table around one pm. After about 15 minutes two sets of cutlery were brought out to us. Another 15 minutes elapsed and our two drinks arrived. Our sandwiches eventually arrived about an hour after we ordered them. They were delicious , and came with a bit of salad with no dressing. We later discovered there was dressing available but no one offered it to us. Optimistically we then ordered cake and coffee Andy moved inside as it was chilly outside. We waited........and waited......and then I went to ask and she’s had completely forgotten about our order. We waited some more and eventually got it, and by that time it was three o’clock. TWO hours later we were done. £38.50 for two sandwiches, two pieces of cake, two soft drinks and two coffees was a tad steep I thought, but it was very delicious. I think more staff is needed , as everyone was getting fidgety and complaining about the slowness. No apologies were made , perhaps it was just a bad day, but I wouldn’t go agai, no matter how delicious.

Have had this on the ‘to try’ list for a while and finally got around to it. Inside is quite compact so it might get busy, but we found a seat easy enough. Food was piping hot, fresh and tasty. Sampled some of the gluten free cake while on-site and also got a few for the family at home. The cakes were great. Only disappointment was a takeaway ‘cinnamon bun’ that was sadly a bit too dry. Overall, everything else was so good that I’m not going to lose a point over it. Recommended.

Sladers is beautiful upmarket art and furniture gallery set in a modernised industrial building. Very trendy and cool with great paintings by Alex Lowery. The little cafe (only open lunch-times and afternoons) does super crab sandwiches (which can be complemented by a bottle of rosé) in a little garden at the front. Third time unlucky, they came out as door-steps but otherwise it is a delightful place for lunch amid the fish and chips and noise that characterise West Bay.

Sunday morning coffees were very good, service extremely poor and rude staff. Short changed, rude comments about possible sticky hands of our toddler son, constant reminders for items we had ordered, could add more!! If you sell food and drinks, and allow children and dogs in, then maybe consider what art you place in reach of the paying customers. Then maybe drop the hassling of customers in favour of less expensive art - after all, dogs, small children and maybe food and drink don't really mix well with 5 figure art in easy reaching distance!!

As I had enjoyed my first visit to the café I was keen to take my husband there. We were sat at a table for at least 5 minutes before the waitress came and cleared away the dirty cups and plates however she did not clean the dirty table. She did apologise for not clearing the table sooner. We ordered two cream teas which were delicious. Having only used half of the cream and jam my husband asked if he could have another scone. His plate was taken away and after another wait he was given another cream tea although he wasn't charged for it but it is not what we ordered. Unfortunately seated at the table by the counter were two friends of the two young waitresses and the waitresses appeared to be far more interested in talking to their friends than attending to the customers. Visited here last week whilst visiting West Bay for the day. As a veggie I was struggling to find somewhere to eat due to the amount of seafood restaurants (which is understandable being a bay and certainly not a dig at other establishments). My husband saw Sladers Yard on Tripadvisor and suggested a look. We were not disappointed in the slightest. I ordered the halloumi and mint pitta and was so pleased when it arrived with not only, a generous amount of halloumi and mint, but 3 different types of side salad including cous cous and a seed salad. Although there was no specific kids menu the lovely member of staff suggested my 2 young daughters (7&3) could have a small portion of any of the sandwiches and was happy to adapt slightly for their younger tastes. Both members of staff we encountered (serving and preparing) were polite and helpful. They were also very sweet to my youngest when she wanted to go to the till and ask for water and her cake herself. I would definitely return and recommend Sladers Yard to others! Top marks!!

Looking for somewhere to eat in West Bay away from the sea front (and having become frustrated with the now over popular establishments further east long the coast) Sladers Yard cafe (and art gallery) was recommended to us. The visit was mid-week and was quite popular with a number of people in both the gallery and the cafe. The menu was excellent and the quality of the food very good (Moroccan bean stew and fresh cran salad were our choise). Both the serving staff and chef were very attentive and helpful, help creating a very good atmosphere. The cafe is incorporated into the gallery space within a historic barn and has been carefully restored, yet still providing a warm and comfortable environment in which to relax and eat. Plenty of tables inside and a small, sheltered courtyard seating area to the front of the cafe / gallery. Thoroughly recommended with plenty of parking a few minutes walk away, and still only a short walk to the cost if required.

The food was good, well prepared with great ingredients, and enough for us, but just not quite as compelling as we might have hoped. Don't really know why, just that we were not bowled over. Definitely stop into the gallery, and see the work - and try them. I would go again if in the area, and give them another go around.

I tripped over this place whilst on a day trip to Bridport and, luckily, it was lunchtime on a sunny September Saturday. We chose a bench outside and ordered at the counter. We had two platters to share - a Mediterranean platter including hummus, olives, bread, lovely salad leaves, tsatziki; the other board was a cheese board with three cheeses and some bread. The flavours of everything were lovely and it was all very well-presented. We bought some homemade cake to takeaway as we were too full to eat it there and then. I would recommend a visit if you are in Bridport or close by, even if it is just for the amazing cakes.

We stopped in here after it got a bit blustery on the beach. It was a really unusual building, could have been softened a bit with more sofas or other furnishings but we couldn't fault food. The scones with jam and clotted cream were an absolute winner. If we're ever back in bridport, we'll make a beeline for this place!

This cafe come gallery is in a back street at West Bay. It is well worth the effort to seek it out. We had a coffee and cakes. The cafe is an interesting place to visit. The coffee was very good, cakes were delicious. The scones with butter and jam were very generous. Service was friendly and efficient.

I often visit Sladers Yard mainly to look at the latest art for sale. The Lady that selects the pictures and sculptures has a great eye as a result the collections on display are always cutting edge. The food is good well worth a visit in its own right. You always get a friendly welcome so go take a look if you are in the area

A great spot for coffee and cake or light lunch. I can not eat gluten so really helpful that they have a gluten free option. Helpful staff and great building.

A good cup of coffee here though cups could have been slightly larger. The venue is very quiet and doubles as an art gallery. If you are looking for atmosphere, this isn't the place to choose. But it is adequate for a coffee stop. They won't take credit cards.

Looked promising but service was slow and serving staff gave the impression that you were disturbing their quiet day. Expensive as well.

We visited Sladers while on a break in Dorset and felt inspired to write a quick review. This is a refreshingly original café and art gallery; a bright, contemporary space (very different from the rest of West Bay!). Food is good. A great place for lunch. So good, in fact, that we returned for tea (the orange and pistachio cake is tremendous). We were also impressed with the lovely, friendly staff. The art space is interesting and we found the curator to be informative and helpful. And, although the work on view was not to our taste, the handmade furniture certainly was exceptional. Overall, a very pleasant detour, five minutes from Bridport.

Lovely people and good food in an old building connected to the rope-making and sea-gooing history of Bridport and West Bay.

A very interesting place to have lunch or tea with delicious food in an artistic environment. There is a space where an ever - changing exhibition is hung and there is also local hand-made jewellery and furniture for sale. It's also a fascinating old warehouse building.

Went to see a couple of bands, great venue with a good vibe, must go back in the daylight and explore the beer garden!

Two visits over the last few days. Pleasant staff, decent beer and nice atmosphere but nowhere to sit - the first time all the tables in the pub were reserved for a quiz, the second time it was lad out, theatre-style, for the rugby. We cleared off to The Volunteer.

We came with friends as we had all been gifted afternoon tea, and chose to visit this tearoom. We booked just over a week in advance. What a great choice! A great selection of beautifully fresh finger sandwiches, scones, cream and jam. and a selection of small cakes, which were so light. Absolutely scrumptious. We weren't rushed, so we could sit and enjoy our food. The folk working in the tearoom were very welcoming and we had a delightful afternoon. Thank you!
