The White Lion in West Dorset

Nice pub with nice areas and nice garden. But hard to guess when it's gonna be open and even harder if the kitchen is open.

We booked to have Sunday Roast in The George.When we got there we found a notice on the door to say the Hotel was closed until further notice.We went to The White Lion and had a huge roast.Very pleasant and helpful staff and delicious food.

I didn't go for food even though I know the food is very good.

So sadly understaffed. Managed one drink in our 1.5 hour visit. Waiting 25 mins for the 1st drink and gave up for the second one, as did many others! Shame. We left at 11.50pm on NYE in search of a drink!

Lovely friendly welcoming pub with the most delicious food at great value prices. Staff were so wonderful and made us, and more importantly my Greyhound dog, feel happy and very well fed too! The portions are very generous, so be warned! Will definitely return and highly recommend 😊

Unfriendly staff. Slow service. Lots of people waiting for food and chaotic. Guy vapikg on the bar filling the place with smoke. Avoid.

Stopped off here for a meal while we were traveling to Charmouth for a few days holiday. We were welcomed with open arms from jodie the land lady. 5 stars as dog friendly great meal cooked fresh & local beer ales & cider. Well done to Shannon the chef. 🙂

Incredible food. Staff were so gracious and polite and were very attentive, quality of food was sublime and the quality of service was second to none. Highly recommend. A pub for all.

Warm, welcoming atmosphere and a delicious roast at a good price. Pool and football table too which our children loved.

We met our son in this pub as it’s halfway between Bournemouth and sidmouth. So we decided to try the white lion. What a gem. Lovely greeting from young lady behind the bar. They only do roasts on Sunday, but no prob with that. It was a lovely roast, it was hot and very tasty, the roast potatoes were gorgeous. It was nice as we had a few hours to eat and chat, well nearly 3 until our parking ran out. Very nice pub friendly. We will be back next time we meet up. We used to go to Morrisons but you can’t really relax in there, just eat and go. So was lovely to have time. Totally recommend thankyou

Came in to watch the football. Very friendly service and a really nice Sunday lunch. Also an excellent Chocolate Brownie, so I am informed. Dog friendly 🐕

Only found this pub whilst looking for the bus station what a great find!Missed many a bus waiting in there watching live sport eating good food drinking great beer. A very pleasant wait for the next bus or maybe the next one. Staff and management were very welcoming whom I wish to thank for not having a timetable. Down to earth family pub with covered back garden w/wide screen for sports+ uncovered area leading to footbridge across Brit to large public carpark.

Difficult to rate. A nice afternoon was ended when a woman began to scream hysterically at a young barmaid. Apparently she felt someone had been served a drink before her. Locals (I think) came to the young ladies aid but she was distressed and had to leave her post. The offensive woman was asked to leave and kicked off again. To much sun and sangria methinks. Bridport is a lovely town and it's hostelries certainly don't need this. I'd recommend this airy comfortable pub to anyone. Friendly and relaxing..Apart from mememe tourists. L

The food here is good honest grub at a fair price. Good atmosphere too. The beer and cider are good and a fair price for the area, the staff are very welcoming too.

Great food, great service and great for watching the football.

20 of us (with an age range from 6 to late 70s) from Wales were staying in a cottage close by and asked the White Lion if they would mind us coming in for the England v Wales 6 Nations match. They sat us all together and really looked after us. Good drinks (I loved the Orchard Haze and the fruit in the glasses with Koppaberg) and food. Very friendly atmosphere (even though we were supporting the opposite team) and we were introduced to Nora the dog.

Having seen a fair bit on FB about this place we decided to give it a go as we were in town. BIG disappointment. Fair enough it seems to cater for young sports minded drinkers (and I am sure it does this well) but in my opinion is not a place to take your granny. First impressions on entering we not good. Lacked any sort of ambiance and person on bar came across as someone who didn't want to be there. Two large TV screens showing the umpteenth repeat of a F1 race did not help. Only saving grace was that despite large menu boards outside the front door I was told they were not serving food. Decanted to a pub up the road - chalk and cheese.

Found this pub on the way back from Seaton to Weymouth. The food and service was excellent so if you are hungry and in Bridport make sure you go here

Our first visit to The White Horse in a year, and what an enjoyable lunch the four of us had.Very friendly service in this lovely local pub, at the western end of the main street.My ham, eggs and chips was delicious. The others really enjoyed their burgers and pizza. Everything hot, tasty, well-cooked, good value and served with a smile. Sensibly-sized tables.We'd booked our table for lunch, (excellent "reserved" /name sign on the table by the way), which is to be reommended, although there's usually a table available at lunctime.Good toilets and level access.We love it here.
