Lovely location, very nice pub, friendly staff. We stopped off for a quick pint randomly but we're probably going to visit again after our break as the food looked very nice! I would definitely recommend it if you're in the area.

Good food and a very comfortable dining experience. Service was excellent and food is always served freshly cooked. Plenty of seating outside with views across the whole valley. Great place to watch the sun go down. Dog friendly and a good children's menu. Recommended to book for an inside table or larger group.

Unexpected visit. Sunday afternoon, stopped for a drink and enquired about lunch . Landlord very pleasant and accommodating. I had the lamb and my partner had the smaller portion Sunday lunch. Unusual but great value. Unfortunately it was wet and misty so sat inside. We will return for the service and location. Great views ( yet to see).

There’s a restaurant, bar and garden menu. From memory the nachos were £6, fish and chips £16 and trio of sausages £15. Lots of parking, steps leading in, plastic cups outside to avoid any broken glass near kids/dogs, can book restaurant tables, lots of picnic benches and covered areas. Nice views.

Lovely pub, great accommodation in a beautiful location We recently stayed for a couple of days to visit our daughter and grandchildren on holiday in Stoke Abbott. The staff were friendly and helpful, and our room was clean and comfortable with a well stocked kitchenette. We enjoyed drinks in the evenings after full-on days with our children, and although the food looked amazing, we sadly never got to try it. Next time! The views from the beer garden were stunning, and we wouldn't hesitate to stay again and highly recommend it.

Winyards Gap has always been a lovely place to visit and there is no denying the view from the garden is lovely. However, this is the first time we've visited since the new owners took over in January and whilst the newly refurbished interior is lovely, the experience was less than relaxing. From the minute we were seated, the whole experience was rushed. The waitress was so 'attentive' that we were given very little time to choose our food, finish our food choose our drinks, and order pudding and actually felt pestered rather than relaxed. But to top it all off, when the final plates were basically taken away before we'd finished, we were asked immediately if we wanted anymore drinks. We declined and simply said, not at the moment thank you, wanting 5 or 10 minutes for our food to go down. Literally, 60 seconds later, we were told that they needed the table back and we'd have to leave. We had booked a large family meal with relatives and had to leave at 8pm! Shocking. It really is a shame as its a lovely place that we've always enjoyed. We left feeling unvalued as customers.

We had earmarked this pub to go back to eat at when we did the open gardens in Chedington village last year. We chose to book as a family of five for our Fathers Day lunch today. It was fabulous, no complaints about anything at all. All the staff seemed well trained, efficient and above all friendly and with a smile. It makes a huge difference. Our party enjoyed two starters of the calamari, all of us had the roasts which were a good size, freshly cooked, lots of tender meat and a good selection of vegetables and accompaniments. Three of us also managed a dessert. The choice was very good and a bit different to the usual pub menu. We had the white chocolate and kitkat cheesecake and two of us the bread pudding and custard (a real treat!). The dining room was decorated in a modern style with chunky furniture and a nice buzz about it. Dogs are allowed in here too. The garden with stunning, far reaching countryside views and the outdoor terrace all looked well kept. We understand from reading other reviews that the owners have changed this year. We were so impressed and passed on our thanks to the staff today. We will definitely be back now that we have finally got round to trying you! Thank you.

Stayed for 2 nights in May for Hubby's Birthday. Received a very warm welcome from Hosts, John, Lucy and Lucy's Mum. Rooms are set back from the pub, so they are very quiet. Room was spotlessly clean, modern decor and very well equipped. Very large and comfortable bed. Clock/Radio TV Tea making facilities, coffee machine, fresh milk supplied. Bathroom very modern with large walk in shower. Nice toiletries supplied. The only tiny negative we had with the room (Room 4) is the hot water pipes run under the floor so the heat from them radiate through, there is no way to regulate that so the room got very warm. We were supplied with an expensive, quiet running fan, which we had to leave on constantly and open the velux window to make the room temperature bearable for us. Lucy's Mum did offer us another room, but we felt for one more night we could manage, to save them the upheaval a room change makes. We spent the afternoons in the lovely, comfy bar area. Hubby was pleased that there was a good selection of Ales available. We had evening meals both nights, it was nice that the dining area was set separate to the Bar area. The evening meals and breakfasts we received during our stay were cooked to perfection and presented beautifully. The food was delicious and there was plenty of choice on both the breakfast and evening menus. All the staff there were fantastic, friendly and efficient, nothing was too much trouble for them. We will definitely stay there again when we visit Dorset but would ask for a different room. The views from and around the pub are amazing and far reaching, we found it a very peaceful and relaxing place to get away from it all for a few days. They also have a lovely beer garden that make the most of the lovely surrounding views.

Top place. We went for Sunday lunch. The roast dinner was excellent - a lot of pubs do roasts and there is often something not quite right - too little food, too much food, too hard, too soggy etc. But I must say this place got everything right, and importantly the plate was hot. They also serve well-conditioned real ales. To cap it all off the location is stunning - we went for a walk in the local countryside after our meal, then went back for a beer in the beer garden which overlooks miles of beautiful contryside.

We ate in the restaurant each night, food was well cooked and presented and Lucy and her team made us feel very welcome and at ease. A sunny day in April and we needed to lift our spirits so immediately thought of Winyard's Gap with its outdoor seating area and beautiful views as it is only a couple of miles from home. It was a Friday so we fancied fish and chips which we selected from their 'garden menu'. Perhaps we should have been alerted by the fact that our condiments tray contained packs of wooden knives and forks, but we had eaten outside here in the past - Sunday lunch - and had normal cutlery, so hoped this was a mistake. To our dismay lunch was 'served' in cardboard boxes! It wasn't particularly hot when it arrived and did not look very appetising. Trying to eat with the crude implements provided proved difficult, for example, cutting through batter and piercing chips. However, we ate in a hurry and left vowing not to repeat this experience. Feedback was offered, with the response being that this was their way of coping when they were busy. At the time we were the only customers eating outside and the dining room inside was definitely not full.

The food was amazing. I had lamb roast and my partner had pork roast. We booked our table for a late lunch at 4pm and considering this was a late meal for lunch, the presentation and quality was just perfect. The meat was beautifully tender and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. Very generous portions and a wide selection of vegetables served. The service was good and the area where we dined was clean and very presentable. I would have given this place a five star rating, however this lovely place was let down by one thing, the worst glass of wine I have tasted in a long time. I ordered a Pinot Noir costing £8.50. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t wish this awful vintner experience on anyone. This glass of wine did not in any way taste like a Pinot Noir. More like an oxidised Merlot. Just awful! We left a good tip because we did not want the amazing staff in the Kitchen to miss out on our appreciation for the sake of an awful turkey behind the bar. Please, landlord, sort your wine out because such amazing food deserves to be served with good wine.

Have been here a few times in the last month/two months or so. The service and food have got progressively worse and disappointing. Today was a 40 minute wait for a panini and burger, with other tables who arrived much later than us getting their food first. Paid for add ons which didn’t come and my ciabatta was half the size than it’s been previously. Not even warm or melted. Had to complain and ask for it to be heated. This was after a haphazard ordering system where people who went the wrong way in the queueing system got served before us. Barely An apology in sight and just ‘oh its busy’ response. I do have sympathy and patience after covid but would have just had a better and cheaper experience cooking what we ordered at home. Rip off and just frustrating

Another one promised - did not arrive so took the one from under son's chips.Table cleared no offer of desserts - didn't want one but would be nice to be asked.Another long wait to catch someone for the bill. A further wait to pay as no one had said - pay at the bar on your way out.Plenty of staff but right and and left hand not working in tandem

We arrived at The Gap at 13.00 hadn't booked a table . At the door my husband was told to wait, I sat at a table on grass, twenty minutes later my husband brought us two very luke warm drinks. Been told we could get food at 14.00. I went as instructed to door and waited, girl told me we would now have to wait now until 3pm.We are both older people and we were hungry and so frustrated. I complained to Adam Woods, a manager. I said if they had told the people outside about the further delay we could have left and eaten somewhere else........... he said they were short staffed and couldn’t have people going out to the garden - but the young waiter was going out there all the time!!We went down the road to a pub to get some food but it was shut. We left very hungry and frustrated. We love The Gap, so disappointing,

We visited for a family reunion, staying two nights in the delightful guest rooms and eating several meals. All the food was excellent and staff coped very professionally with our large and rather chaotic party for a memorable Christmas lunch where everyone seemed to have ordered something different but everyone liked their meals. Our dog was warmly welcomed and the underfloor heating in the room and large shower were very useful in the terrible weather. There are lovely dog walks from the door and the views are fantastic. Well worth driving from Northumberland for.

A lovely dog friendly rural pub with a good selection of food at a good price. We sat in the garden which has a beautiful view over the hills. Dogs are allowed inside too. We both had the vegan mushroom burger with added vegan mozerella. It was delicious. The chips were rustic and really tasty. There was a nice side salad too.The portion size was very generous and all for a really good price for the area.We were pleased to find a pub in the area which offered vegan options.

All members of staff were very polite and helpful. We have been here a lot over the past few years but the staff they have at the moment are very very good. Especially the waiter Josh who dealt with me and my husband, food was very good! Very pleased

When is it permissable to allow a dog in the bar when people are sat eating? Surely this is not acceptable.

...we didn’t actually have anything. We called in here for a drink on a tour of the area and some nostalgia as this pub is where parents in law used to lunch in their retirement. It looks ok, once we negotiated the wonky steps to the door, nice comfy seating area with newspapers....which were needed as I waited 10 minutes at the bar to be served before giving up and going somewhere else. It wasn’t even busy, but the person serving was anchored to the other side of the bar where the youngsters were hanging out. I think it was the bar person actually taking a swig of her drink right in front of me and walking away that decided me to give up. Won’t bother next time, there are many other pubs and restaurants in the area who actually want to take the money.

4 of us staying local to this place! After driving around for an hour we came across this pub! It was lovely! Manager I’m assuming was so accommodating, gave us a table! And food was to die for! Everyone said the steak was the best they had ever had an portions were huge!! Responsibly priced! Mains around £12-£25 just likeNormal! Honestly would come here over and over again! Couldn’t recommend me! And I could see a lovely seating area outside!

Many years since we had been to Wynyards gap and we were pleasantly surprised with how it had changed. However the views was as great as we remembered it. The food and service were both good. Worth a visit.

The amount of times that we have had dinner here should mean that we have shared in the business! We don’t, but the reason we return so often is purely because, without fail, what you get is consistently good, every single time. Their burger is wonderfully homemade with the finest ingredients and their pork belly is succulently enticing. Their wild mushrooms and Stilton cheese on brioche is so blimming good that you don’t feel guilty at all st wanting to order a second round.

Looked for somewhere new to try and also happy to have dogs. Along with an amazing view. All we cans say is very warm welcome - clean neat tidy dog happy in bar and the outside seating area had a most exceptional view. The food choice was far reaching without being over stretched. Coffee nice not strong great thought had been given to the Ploughman's and the refried chips would even have pleased that doyen of refried chips Nigel Slater. If you are seeking a vegetarian ploughman's ensure the cheese option has no pies. Both meals were ample portions and the desert was like the mains very nicely presented. We in short were pleased. If unsteady on your feet a few steps and wobbles but nothing you could not deal with. Cheaper options would be the sandwiches or work to the mains and desert for £10 on the specials board. So a fair priced menu but the food does punch above its weight.
