Skylark Fish & Chip Shop in Bolton

Tried their sweet and sour pork Cantonese style and fried rice. Tried the spareribs too. Everything was very authentic, tasty, and delicious. Piping hot when I got the food. They even gave me a bag of complimentary prawn crackers. Their service was friendly and prompt. Will definitely be back when I’m in the area.

This is my local chippy but I'd never been before. My favourite dish is egg foo yung and they do it fantastically. I ordered king prawn foo yung which was very authentic! Alongside my foo yung I got some gravy and chips and they were very nice and fresh out of the frier. Not only that the service was very professional and polite the lady who served me was very friendly

So i love a good chinese and this place delivers! The sweet and sour is a nice balance and the chicken is always cooked properly, never tough or chewy. The special fried rice was good and the portions are generous. The staff are friendly and welcoming and its always clean.

Having previously had great chips from there, I am extremely disappointed to say that its gone down hill. The last two times the chips were definitely refried and not fresh. The lady was frying them on today's visit so I thought the previous time might have been a one off but that was not the case. They came out burnt and greasy so she must have been refrying them. I wanted to write the review so they can have the feedback and stop refrying old food. It's disgusting and not fair on your customers. Most of the chips were inedible as seen in the picture.

This sadly is my local chippy. I will start by saying I’ve never tried their Chinese food so I can’t comment on that. Th last time we tried it was maybe 18 months ago and we ordered fish and chips. The fish looked like a frozen fish fillet in batter (think birds eye) and had obviously been fried and then kept warm so the batter was solid and inedible. I am always willing to give somewhere a couple of chances and now I have but never again

Just paid £9-60 for three fish and I can honestly say (and my family agree) they were inedible. It was like trying to gnaw through rubber. I will never set foot in that place again.

Kids wanted chips after day out visiting family and passed this place on our way home. Sausages, curry sauce and lots of chips. Got them open and ate them straight away. There's a nice wine bar next door might pop in there one night and then grab a take away after. Kids said chips were yummy. I liked the spicy curry sauce. Friendly family run place.

Haven’t been up this way for a while and called into skylark after a beer across the road. Hadn’t tried their Chinese food before and asked the girl to recommend something. Ended up with sweet and sour pork Cantonese style and fried rice. Everything was very authentic almost old fashioned but in a good way. They have an old guy who cooks at the back and a nice friendly lass who takes the orders. Also sell dandelion and burdock cans which I grabbed to go along with my meal. Will definitely be back when I’m in the area. 5 stars!!!

Had fish and chips. The chips were fine but the fish was very poor. It tasted like the fat in which the fish was fried was old, it is noticeable that the fish is cooked in a separate drier than the chips. Won’t be rushing back.

This place use to be fantastic and we were regular customers. Although in last few years we have been going elsewhere for our takeaways. So as we were passing a couple of days ago and it was actually open for a change, we decided to try it. Oh dear, what a disappointment it was. My husband had curry and chips, which he said was ok. I however had Fish, chips and peas. The peas were ok. The chips, were all little bits, like scraps, not one, what i would call normal sized chip, luckily they only gave me a very small portion, but really, why not proper sized chips? The fish........ ha, what a joke ! It looked like one of the frozen birdseye fish portions, you know the ones, they are a triangle shape. The fish was dry and lacking somewhat. The batter was completely soggy, and didnt appear fresh. Very disappointing meal and we wont be back anytime soon. Yuk !

Didn't know this place was here. Came up to drop something at a mate's house and afterwards tried this local chippy. Great, friendly service and my order was freshly cooked and quickly made. Will be back to try the chinese food. Had to take a picture of their menu as they don't have a website. Great fish and chips and we also had the puddings and curry sauce (nice and spicy). Got some free prawn crcakers when we said it was our first visit too!

The menu was great, and the food was cooked to perfection. &ish good. Chips, super I advocate the vegetable currt

Had a takeaway from here. The food was hot, freshly made, tasty and delicious. A nice family run place with a friendly and excellent service. Well recommended.

I've never had a problem with Skylark, they are local, convenient and show great customer service. They are in a tough market around here but clearly make the most of being local and friendly. Always guaranteed a warm welcome, open and honest service and a good chat. Full Chinese menu as well as good old fashioned English fish and chips always great friendly service.

Well it is pretty below par to be honest. Can be tricky to park near by as only a couple of parking spaces on the main road. It isn’t really that cheap.
