Not as good as it used to be. Prices have increased dramatically whilst the quality of the food has deteriorated. It used to be one of the best Chinese food takeaway outlets in the town. Not anymore.

Very polite people food always amazing highly recommend

This is a place we used to use absolutely loads and then stopped as it went downhill. It seemed to be okay recently but the last meal was a letdown and just lacked flair. The portions are quite big, the menu varied, but the food is just average again. It's a shame but hopefully they can address this or we won't be going back Again.

Really bad. It was obviously really cheap chicken. And it tasted like fish sauce . The Beef with ginger was just about edible but the beef was very chewy. Looked like really cheap beef. Gone downhill and I won't be going back .

Not the cheapest takeaway, but always excellent quality meals

I buy food here almost every week. This is one of the only Chinese Takeaways that will change dishes to suit my Gluten Free diet (I'm a coeliac, not on a silly diet). My wife ordered a different dish to normal, and they actually remembered she was allergic to MSG and told us this over the phone. I think the food is lovely, never had a bad meal yet! If you do find a ingredient that you do not like or a dish is too spicy for your taste buds, tell them when ordering and they will make adjustments to the recipe! Staff are brilliant and very helpful!

I ordered prawn toasts and 2 portions of dim sum at a cost of about £13. The prawn toasts and not nice and very overcooked. The dim sum fell to pieces when attempting to pick them and had been steamed with paper on the bottom !! It was 15 minutes to closing time so by the time we got home it was closed or I would have returned them. To be fair we have ordered the dim sum before and they have been excellent as other dishes we have ordered. I was very disappointed and wonder if I would give them another chance.

Get the lemon sauce and live your life

Appalling, inedible gloop! Ordered a chicken chow mein, a special chow mein and a chicken in ginger & spring onion. All 3 dishes were bland and tasteless with an unusual, almost transparent, gloopy consistency. All 3 dishes were inedible and got thrown in the bin after just 2 bites. .... This used to be the best chinese takeaway in Bolton - definitely not anymore! I will never order from here again!

This was a place we had used for years and years and was always top class. It felt like it was restaurant quality food from a takeaway but the last couple of times weren’t so good. We took a chance on a Thursday evening and ordered three dishes and all were excellent. The shredded beef was spicy and very tasty as was the special chow mein. The service in the shop was excellent and the food ready in plenty of time and still hot. Hopefully it can retain this level of service and quality and, if it does, we will be back there regularly.

This was one of the poorest Chinese takeaway meals I have ever had. Spare ribs were in blocks about 3" x 3". The chicken chow mein had super soft chicken which seemed like artificial meat. The fried rice was dry and tasteless. Very disappointed as it cost over £20. I had to throw most of it in the bin. Sorry chins Palace, it is time for a new chef.

Had a meal from this place last night. It was the worst Chinese meal I have ever bought. Previously not bad, although variable, this was rubbish. Black bean sauce was watery and almost tasteless, the beef was inedible and went in the bin, not fit for the dog. The portion of cashew nuts was poor, mostly vegetables and few cashew nuts and almost tasteless. Gone downhill, big style!!!

No msg unlike some others in Bolton and fresh ingredients.

Excellent Sui Mai and Sigapore Vermicelli. Recommended.

Wonton soup won tons were hard and rubbery. Salt and pepper chicken and ribs were just ribs and chicken wings on top of a bit of flavouring.

Best Chinese in bolton, very quick with the orders and on time everytkme I call even when very busy, prices have gone up recently however its always good food, only criticism is the plastic containers it would be better to swap to paper

Sweet and sour chicken tough only ate half if it the rest went in the bin , chicken and sweetcorn soup had so much pepper added it was firey, not a great experience 😑 used to be the best in the area

Used to be great - really not any more. Always loved a takeaway from here but the sweet and sour chicken was tough and horrible and the chow mien not great. Only thing we enjoyed was the spring rolls.

The food was salty tasteless and soggy. We had some and the rest the bin had. This is not one occasion. This is the last three four times. I will not spend this amount of money on food I and my family cannot eat. Salty soggy mess is the best words I can discover this food

We used to recommend this takeaway to everyone we knew Ias it felt like it was restaurant quality rather than takeaway. We visited for the first time in awhile recently and that wasn’t the case. It was still good but not great as it was before. The menu was pretty much the same with a good variety but the food just wasn’t the same quality. The best dish as it always was was the shredded beef but, other than that, the lemon chicken and the Singapore vermicelli were quite average. I do hope it gets back to normal soon as we have been fans of this place for years.

Great food. And you can order whatever you want before you pick up. endless selection to choose and friendly staff.

This is a reasonably well priced take away and the food is consistently good and never greasy like some Chinese take aways. Particularly good are the ribs the salt and pepper chicken wings and the chop suey. The duck is good, lots of meat on it. It is best to order in advance, early on in the night because they get very busy.

Had the Salt and Pepper chicken. It was just shredded chicken so ne meat. Just fried strips. Hardly any onion, peppers etc. Chips were also overdone. Shame as it is usually good, but had this for a change

As things were easing we made a quick decision to treat ourselves to a Chinese takeaway. So last night after perusing the menu on line we rang up and ordered a set meal for 2. I said I would pick it up at 5.15, allowing 25 minutes, this was agreed and I was given the number 8 as a reference. I arrived 5 minutes early, stood for 5 minutes and then received the food. On arriving home, it was piping hot and was all absolutely delicious. The portions were very generous and well worth the money. Go on give it a try.

This is a reasonably well priced take away and the food is consistently good and never greasy like some Chinese take aways. Particularly good are the ribs (the OK ribs are battered) the salt and pepper chicken wings and the chop suey. The duck is good, lots of meat on it. It is best to order in advance, early on in the night because they get very busy.

Gone downhill recently, used to be excellent which is a shame.

We have been using this takeaway for many, many years and love it. It is like restaurant quality food at takeaway prices and his head and shoulders above any others we have tried in the area. The deep fried crispy beef is a must for us but any of the different dishes we have tried are great. There is lots of parking outside and the service is friendly and the order process organised.

Good Chinese. Egg fried rice wasn't so nice. Rice felt like it had been sitting around for some time. Otherwise it would have got 4 stars

Have been here before and it was decent but has since changed hands. My first impression was worry that it took me longer to decide what to order than it did for the meal to be cooked. I am used to expecting a wait of at least 20 mins for a takeaway Chinese dish....not 5 mins! So it was definitely microwaved. Much to my surprise, the duck was soft and not chewy as expected, the veggies still had bite. It would have been a really nice meal had the chef not dropped a full sack of salt/msg into the pan. Tongue still shrivelled as I’m writing and more than a bit miffed that it cost over £8 for a main course takeaway that was titled “Ginger & Spring Onion” AND contained fresh pieces of ginger that I couldn’t taste because of the overwhelming salt content. Hope this can be rectified because it would otherwise be a top notch takeaway

First time using this takeaway son recommended the Salt and Pepper box and we were not disappointed. Rang order through ready in 10 minutes. Super service. Would recommend.

It was OK but the onions were raw like they had been forgotten until dishing up

Good Chinese food but you do have to wait for it as they don’t do delivery but you can order by phone half an hour before you go and for a takeaway it’s rather expensive

Our go to Chinese, even though we have moved to the other side of Bolton. The best salt & pepper chicken/beef!! Worth the drive, EVERY TIME!!!!

Quick service, good prices and good food.

This has been our first choice for Chinese for 20 years. Consistently good quality food and large portion sizes. Everyone we have recommended it too has agreed. The down side, they don't deliver. Also if ordering at the weekend by phone whatever time they give you for it to be ready be prepared to add 10 to 15 minutes wait in the shop. But it's worth it.

This place used to be the best Chinese in Bolton, but unfortunately it has gone downhill since the new owners took over. We used to use this take away alot. We also have been to this takeaway since the new owners took over, to show support. Unfortunately this take away can no longer give us the service it once did. Tried to order a takeaway over the phone for collection and was told we were not aloud to pay by card, it was cash only. We had always paid by card here and we're taken back by this decision. We were forced to take another option of using another takeaway, that gave the best service that this takeaway once did.

Excellent food just as it was 16 years ago

Everything just tastes bland the meat is poor quality Singapore chow main with one prawn in it and not much else IT HAS NOT changed hands but must have changed chef it’s gone down hill very fast On a good note the friendly girl that used to serve you is back after an illness and I am hoping the rest of the place is going to get it’s act in order and back to the way we all know and love it

2day wonton soup was disgusting 1/3 of it was a fat. Shreded chicken....well should be shreded carrot with some chicken!!! It was not mine first time in China palace bay the way.

Upon arrival at China Palace, it soon became apparent that the take away was under new management, as I was not greeted by the friendly young girl who used to run the shop. When we got the food home, the spring rolls had changed considerably, from what used to be chunky vegetable rolls full of filling to now miniature rolls with very little filling at all, although you do get more in a portion than previously. The 1/4 crispy duck came shredded as asked and was relatively tasty, however what was strange is that it was accompanied by a bag of bones on the side that the meat had obviously been extracted from and a box of the typical spring onion and cucumber that did not appear to be very fresh, yet this was not terribly noticeable in a pancake with hoisin sauce. The worst part of the meal had to be the main course. We ordered Cantonese Fillet Steak, which traditionally would be thin slices of fillet steak in Cantonese sauce - this was how it was previously served - however this was large chunks of meat that when cut through did not resemble the normal texture of beef - there were holes throughout and it did not cut how beef usually would. After 2 mouthfuls, we decided that the taste certainly was not beef and therefore we did not eat the rest of the course. Quality of meat is very important to me, as when paying for a premium steak product, one would expect to get what they pay for, and tonight that certainly isn't what we received. Very very unhappy and will not be revisiting again, which is a shame considering the previous quality of the food.

Been using China Palace for nearly 10 years. Lovely food. Even friends from London who visit always want a China Palace take away when they’re up.

First time we tried here tonight and we won't be trying it again. Deep fried crap and don't serve gravy . wtf? Absolutely tasteless. Didn't even touch the food it went straight in the bin (bearing in mind I have 2 dogs) !!!!

We have been using this takeaway for many, many years and it never let you down. We’ve never had even one bad dish never mind a full meal and that is quite something.

Excellent food and service the young woman is always polite and courteous with every order at the front counter well worth a visit.

We’ve used this takeaway for over 15 years and the food quality and service were always like a good quality restaurant. The usual staff are no longer there so we assume it’s under new management. There has been a definite change and although the food is still good it’s not quite as excellent as it used to be.

Food is okay, but one lady behind the counter (I think she is the manager) has an intimidating,narcissistic attitude towards most customers and can be nice to certain others which is a shame as the food is often nice. In all honesty, the customer service is not welcoming and needs improvement. :/

My family has eaten food from here quite a few times over the years, but being a coeliac (gluten free), I always ate something different as Chinese food is something to avoid for anyone with a gluten intolerance. Until now! My Dad asked out of interest when he went a few weeks ago to the surprise of them saying yes we do gluten free options!

This is a takeaway we have used hundreds of times over the years and it has always been tremendous. We have recommended it to many people who are now regulars as well. It was, therefore, disappointing when it seemed to have gone off the boil a bit recently.

Ordered here quite a bit over the years but standards have slipped. In recent order bbq ribs were ok but pork in black bean sauce was bad and sauce was gravy like. Special fried rice wasn't nice either and chips were inedible. Will avoid in future. Not cheap either but used to be worth the money.

It's serving tasty food and the people there are lovely

This is one of the best Chinese take aways in Bolton. All of the usual items on the menu that you would expect. Love the fried rice dishes and the portions are large. Not so keen on their chow mein dishes.

We have been huge fans of this place and have never had a bad course let alone wholemeal in all the years we've been going there.

China Palace at Doffcocker was THE best Chinese takeaway in Bolton for many many years. In the last 12 months the quality of food and service has dropped away to "below average"...and the prices have gone up.

Been here a few times now and always good. Nice fresh ingredients, easy parking. Need to pay with cash though. Best Chinese in the area for me.

Absolutely love this chinese and don't enjoy any other! Nothing compares! I've been going for yeeears and now drive to it since I moved further away! There's a great rapport with customers - knowing everyones names, their regular order, polite conversation about how their day is, how's the new job, the new car, whatever is going on with that customer. Such a friendly atmosphere!

Been coming to this Chinese for many years and have never had a bad meal. I am often asked to pick up some food when travelling to see friends over half an hour away as its so good. Regardless of the day this Chinese is always busy!

We popped in for a great take away , even though it was Wednesday the place was full, more importantly it has a 5 Star hygiene rating and it is efficient and tasty 😀

Bolton's best kept Cantonese secret. A rather unimpressive interior and exterior hides a first rate and highly authentic Chinese delight. Order in advance by telephone and it will be almost ready when you get there. Particular highlights are the beef in black bean, chicken and cashew and a marvellous sweet and sour chicken. Don't head here for "English" staples as they are not the strength of the China Palace. Service is friendly and efficient. Cash only - no cheques or cards.

Amazing food, restaurant quality. However the main lady behind the counter is highly rude and off putting. I've noticed she's like this with a few customers but ive also noticed she can be ok with other customers. It's ashame really and i can't fault the food what so ever. But she's made us feel uncomfortable a number of times now, she's very snappy, dosent let you finish your order/questions etc, she also looks past you and she asks you your name and you try to give a reply but she moves on to the next person without even acknowledging you. She's done this a number of times now so much so we go to the ocean palace instead now where the staff are welcoming and friendly and food is amazing. She is a real let down to the place.

This Chinese takaway is simply one of the best I have ever come across. The food standard is second to none and the range of dishes available is just amazing. We love prawn dishes and have to say that at many other places the prawns are tasteless and the size of shrimps!! At China palace the prawns are just huge and taste brilliant! We wouldn't go any where else for chinese food....it is just exceptional!! Paul Cragg.

Had take-away from here many times and mostly it's been okay. Last night however the woman behind the counter was surly and very rude, the rice was clumped into one solid block in the container and the sauce was so salty I couldn't eat it. I'll be feeding elsewhere from now on.
