We use this chip shop on arrival night to save cooking, usually delicious, but this year food wasn't up to usual standard. Greasy batter and dry fish

Lovely modern clean chip shop. Traditional menu. Family run. Some indoor seating. Very nice fried fish. No polystyrene containers either. Now called Chippys!

It’s now called Chippy, Lovely crispy tasty fish. Great scampi (huge portion), ok chips. Best bit however is the very friendly efficient staff.

We were able to get a table early evening without booking. Very good fish and chips, an ample serving. Staff friendly and welcoming.

6 of us had a takeaway. All very good. Scampi delicious and big portion for the money. Cod delicious and white flaky as it should be. Chips were yummy.. you can tell they were prepared fresh not out of a frozen bag! Great chippy and will definitely be back.

Having checked previous reviews we put it down as the place to have our fish and chips (6 adults and 5 children). The service was very good, quick and the food piping hot and very tasty. The price was very good as well. We were down on holiday and ate them on the promenade and was asked where we had got our fish and chips and I directed them towards Skippys.

Went three times in the week as they were best I have tasted. Succulent cod and lovely chips second only to our own home cooked ones. Will visit again.

Nice food , shame about the front of house, the ladies rudeness is absolutely horrendous.... I qm glad that, when times are this tough, you can afford to speak to customers like they are something you wiped off your shoe ....manners cost nothing !! My future business , will be sent to Aberdovey !!

Absolutely awful cold over cooked with oil that had an after taste. Chips were brown and wrinkled too. Sorry it's a no from me

Rude blond woman at the counter that made me feel very uncomfortable as a paying customer food wasn’t the best was all pre made and was cold fish batter was chewy not crispy, fish was dry inside like it had been sat there for a while

Went there, dying for fish and chips at the beach.. well, all I have to say is take a look at the photos. I also asked for some sort of sauce or salad on that rank chicken burger and the lady replied *really think I wanna faff around with salad during a busy summer* what a joke!! Went and got another burger from peckish aka Turkish delight. Burnt. Chips. Rubber fish the size of my hand.. for £4.50. Urgh, used to love this place. Clearly forgot how to cook during lock down.

Not a fancy place but the fish and chips were great. Just wish they wouldn’t use polystyrene packaging.

First night in Tywyn and we decided to get a chippy supper. Felt we were an inconvenience as we were not locals, abrupt older lady on till got annoyed and rolled her eyes because we forgot to order chicken nuggets. Fish was only ok, burgers was not great and overall greasy. Went to Aberdyfi later in week and had amazing chippy.

So, keen on fish and chips after a fun afternoon at the beach. We got a take away from the village chippy. Decent portions but both fish and chips were cooked in advance and ended up being soggy and warm. Sadly experience was below average for UK chippy.

Visited here a few times and everytime I am never left disappointed. The wonder is very friendly even if he isnt there all the time. The staff are always friendly and the standard of the food is the same everytime. Will keep on visiting every time its chippy night

With only one chippy in Tywyn you would think the owners would want the chippy to be at it's best, but if the owner is working it really isn't! The chips are poor, fish soggy and curry sauce a bit poor. The Pies are well, just heated in the microwave so what can I say. The scampi isn't great and the sausages a bit over cooked.However, if Mark is working it's a different story. The food is great. Crispy batter on the fish, nice cooked chips, crispy scampi and not stodgy curry sauce. We now drive by to see who's working and if it's the owner 'Skippy' I believe then we keep driving. Apparently when mentioning this to the staff, they tell us, 'you are not the only ones to say about the owner's poor cooking and he doesn't care'.What a shame. We've been coming here for years and have a home here. Now we drive to Machynlleth to get chips unless Mark is working.

Chips not cooked, fish was chewy supposed to be cod I have my doubts, not fit to eat left a nasty after taste in our mouths, avoid at all costs

A proper chippy with the normal selection of food. Had the standard fish chips and peas which were up to a good standard and steaming hot, so were still warm when we got to the beach :-).

Good chippy, fast service, lovely to see the staff having a laugh whilst at work! Portions are just right. Tried most things from the menu and the chicken breast is my favourite as of yet.

On a hole the food is disgusting and the staff are dirty, especially Skippy and Mark. Not much variety to be honest, curry sauce looks like skippys faeces.

Gritty sausages, small portions... a complete opposite review to last time I visited. Such a shame as I use to love eating their food. I won’t be visiting for a while.

Skippy's was highly recommended to us, but failed to live up to its reputation. Chips were clearly reheated and my pie was awful. (The crust was rubbery and the filling dried out) one of our party had sausage which was also rock hard. The fish which the rest of the party had was fresh and tasty.

We ordered fish and chips and mushy peas. With the exception of the peas, which were old fashioned 'proper' mushies, everything else was a bit disappointing. While there was nothing wrong with the fish itself (haddock), the batter it was cooked in was flabby and somewhat tasteless. The chips were ok but nothing to write home about. Not particularly good value, either.

We had fish and chips. I am afraid to say that the fish has an odour and is of very poor quality. Chips poor too. Portion sizes very small. Expensive and considering on the coast a real disappointment.

I would like to review the food but I can't as I turned up 30 minutes before it was supposed to close to find the door locked. The owner came out to me and told me (no apology) that he was closing early as it had been a really busy weekend and he was tired. No thought given as to whether I had a caravan full of kids waiting for their tea. I know he doesn't owe me a meal but it's not even as if I'd turned up close to closing time; I'd deliberately given it half an hour in case there was a queue. Seems a really odd and unfriendly way to run a business. Perhaps a warm bank holiday weekend bringing people to the coast wasn't the benefit to him that most other business owners in the town seemed to think it was. So, if you're passing and you can see it's open it may be worth a try but I certainly wouldn't make a trip relying on its stated opening hours. Perhaps try Golden Sands on the seafront or Walkers at Aberdovey.

Thought it was rude for the lady in front of me to be asking for more chips in her box, on receiving our food, I can see why she asked! Small portions, rude and impatient staff, no please or thank you and just a miserable feel to the place. Extremely small portions, and some of our chips were eock solid, like eating warm, uncooked potato! Curry sauce was only just warm and tasted powdery somehow. Will not visit again.

Yet again awful frozen fish and really cheap jumbo sausages that taste gritty!!!! at quite expensive price!!!! Will never visit again...awful

Service very quick as the food had been sitting around for a long time? Maybe pre-prepared for a rush that hadn't arrived yet?Wouldn't go again.

Quality fish and chips, staff friendly. There is one table and seating counter so it possible to eat in. Everything you want out of a fish and chip shop you get at Skippy’s. Only quibble food comes in polystyrene containers if it was wrapped in paper in would not sweat, so eat it quickly which is not a problem as food is so hood.

I wouldn’t recommend this place based off the meal I just bought. The chips were ‘ok. But the fish ... There was no flaky, moist fillet. It was dry (but the batter was soggy?) and I could smell it before it got anywhere near my face.

We visited for fish and chips for the kids and sausage and chips for the children, there was 2 family's worth so we ordered quite a lot of food. We walked from the sea front in search of a decent chippy and unfortunately was disappointed. Most of the chips were inedible as they were both undercooked and greasy, the children refused to eat any of there's and spat them out. The fish was nice enough greasier than I would usually expect and soggy batter. Sausages appeared to be OK.

I don't understand these reviews on here . Always pleased with Skippy's. The end of the day it is a fish and chip shop not a restaurant where you can pay over 15 pounds for fish & chips. Then I would expect lemon, garnish, large fish etc . Also I noticed they have 5 star rating for food hygiene.

Visited around half 6 and saw a young boy around 12 working in the back of the shop pushing a tray full of pies into the fridge with his head!!he wasn't wearing a hairnet or anything so his hair was touching the pies this shows this place is unhygienic!

Always enjoy this chip shop. The staff are very efficient and friendly. Food good value and tasty . Cannot wait to come back when we visit the area again .

Fish and chips for 7 hungry adults,alarm bells should have rung when we were served straight away,as no one in the shop and everything's was sitting there ready!!!

Teenage staff were quite moody, however they were efficient.

The fish is fried to a crisp, not freshly cooked and potatoes had more bad bits on. I’ve been twice but hoped it would improve but sadly not, not the best

Paid a visit to Aberdyfi to find the local fish and chip closed as it was Wednesday. A visit to the seaside always must end with fish and chips so we went on to Tywyn where we came upon Skippies. What a welcome sight as it was now getting on in the afternoon. The staff were most welcoming and the fish and chips were good as we were hungry by now and the price was very reasonable. Will definitely call again when we are in the area.

Each time we stay in Tywyn we have the chips from here. Fish, fishcakes, nuggets and pies are tasty. The staff are very friendly. It's not far from the beach or our campsite being in the middle of the main high street.

We come from Lancashire so we know what good fish and chips are and this was definitely not it the fish was rubbery in texture and the chips oily and cold I would definitely not recommend this to anyone

Called here for supper because of the Trip advisor reviews but was sadly disappointed. The fish was delicious but the chips were soggy and the mushy peas very vinegar.

Good portion sizes, and good service - just what it says it is and that is a fish and chip shop on the high street.

On a weekend in Tywyn, used this fish & chip shop for take-away for 15 ppl. Standard of fish was unacceptable. Standard size fish was more like mini fish and completely dried out; batter was stuck to the fish, making this a very expensive takeaway. I've never had such poor quality fish at a seaside resort.

Easter Saturday queuing out the door. Special Mini Fish n Chips. £4.20. A huge reduction of 10p off the usual price. Order x 3 plus curry sauce 2 x roe. Fish no bigger than a mars bar and mostly batter apart from the rubbery fish? inside. Inedible will not return even though have a Caravan here. On a positive note curry sauce fine chips and roe okish. Costing over 15 quid definitely not worth it.

Loads of chips! Loads of curry sauce. Massive queue went down really quickly. A great seaside dinner.

Just had fish and chips from this premises. The chips were cooked twice as some of them were burnt, the fish was overcooked and tough. Always look forward to my seaside fish and chips, but won't bother with this place again.

We were recommended this fish and chip cafe by my mother who lives in Tywyn. Rushed over there today after a lovely walk along the beach and we were pleasantly surprised with how tasty our fish and chip meals were! Nice crispy batter and great sized portions. Will definitely be back every time we come to visit. Thanks very much

Why is this the only coastal fish and chip shop that sells horrid frozen fish that tastes awful!!!!Batter is soggy and undercooked and even if u order cod I’m sure it’s horrible frozen haddock ! The chips we had last night were small and mostly black and bad! The prices are highest around too!!! Last chance last night!!!!!Never again will I waste my money here!

Been to Skippys on a number of occasions for our mini fish and chips. Small area if you want to eat in LOVELY AND DELICIOUS.

Good sized fish, not all batter! And nicely cooked chips too. I didn't have to wait too long and the staff were peasant.

The service was so quick we were in and out of this shop in less than 5 minutes.

Best fish and chips we've had in a long time, well worth the wait, after a lovely long walk around Tywyn and on the beautiful beach.

Turned up at 5pm Saturday opening time, to find a queue. Well organised fish and chips ready to serve, that tasted superb on the seafront on a sunny evening. Will return next time i'm in Tywyn.

My family & I ate here whilst on holiday, the haddock I had was really fresh & tasty, also serve a flavoursome curry sauce & portions are large! We all ate inside this chippy & the service was fab & it’s worth a visit! This chippy gets very busy as it’s so popular to the point people queue outside!

On holiday with the family we decided to have fish and chips at Skippy's on arrival in Tywyn. There was quite a queue so I thought it must be good. My wife had fish, which was ok and the chips were reasonable though all quite small. My cheese burger was awful - it was thin, dry, overcooked and tasteless with no relish or salad. The same was also true for my grandsons chicken burger. We would not recommend.

Cod, hake and place were really well cooked with good portions. Chips were very nice although the portions seem to have reduced, compared with last year. Very efficient service.

Asked for the chips to be wrapped and not in polystyrene. Received a really small portion which was average in quality, really disappointed

The food is always good a Skippy’s. Unfortunately on this occasion the young server had a cold and kept swiping at his nose. Guess who has a cold now??

We ordered fish and chips to takeaway but whilst we waited for the food decided to eat in. The table was dirty despite the fact that 3 members of staff were standing around doing nothing and the shop was empty and we had to ask them to wipe it for us. The fish was really poor - grey and chewy, the chips were marginally better. We had been looking forward to fish and chips at the seaside but unfortunately picked the wrong place or maybe just the wrong time. We are astounded at the favourable reviews as it felt like this was normal for them!

Great food, rapid friendly service and well priced for a seaside town, i have used this place many times and i have never been disappointed.

Popped in on a Bank Holiday Monday before heading home after a day at the sea, and very much enjoyed our generous portion of chips, and a huge piece of well cooked fish. I had just one battered sausage (as after many a horrible one in other establishments I didn’t want to get my hopes up), but wish I’d had more as it was so good.

We ate in as they have a table and barstool type seating around the window. Very large portions, friendly and pleasant staff. Would've liked my fish a bit more well cooked but was tasty all the same. Customer toilet.

Called on Saturday evening over the Easter week end. Ordered 6 fish chips and peas. Chips were ok as was the peas , the fish however was disgusting, in fact it’s the worst I have ever had anywhere . Don’t waste your money on it .

We decided to have chips today instead of eating at home ,we ordered battered beef burger ,a chicken and mushroom pie and a portion of chips ,we didn't have to wait too long for our food ,i had been told that the beefburgers weren't beef burgers that they were more like hamburgers, but i fancied trying one ,well someone was very wrong as the burger was definitely a beef burger it was really tasty and i could taste the onions in it my only criticism would be that the batter was not cooked long enough it was very soft only crispy around the edges of the burger which was a shame .The pie and chips my partner had he said were very nice and i shared a few of his chips and they were very nice hot and fresh .We like how friendly the staff are in Skippy's we always get acknowledged .

This is not the first time I had chips from here that were terrible but thought I will give them another chance but no same old bad chips horrible greasy black chips that were not edible.

Have visited this fish & chip shop for take away on a few occasions recently, having avoided it in the past because of poor comments. I have , however, been pleasantly surprised by the tasty reasonably priced quality of the food. There is some seating available if you wish to eat in but you are unlikely to get a table at busy times.

We were down Tywyn in august this year and we thought we would have fish and chips so we called in skippy the fish and chips were lovely ,the staff were great and the price was reasonably well worth a visit if you want fish and chips

We called in here after a 4 hour car journey for a quick snack. We had a fish in batter. It had most likely been cooked more than once as it was rock hard. The batter was very greasy. We couldn't eat it even though were hungry.

Perfect way to end a busy day. The food was fantastic, lovely and fresh & big portions! Will certainly be back when we are next on holiday

Sunday fish & chip supper, Skippy Fish and Chips is on the high street Tywyn, we queued outside the door, but it was so worth it! fish and chips excellent, my daughter said the chicken and mushroom pie was the best she'd ever had, excellent value for money, well worth the wait.

The perfect feast after racing the train! A very friendly, clean and well priced place. I'd recommend to anyone.

Fish and chips at the seaside you would think would be amazing, however, I was extremely disappointed in visiting Skippy's fish and chip shop (ordered chips, chicken burger, large fish and sausage in batter) the fish was so dry it was inedible for my standards, the chicken burger was MICROWAVED and tasted like rubber and the bun was two times to big for the burger, the batter on the sausage was soggy and not crispy. Last of all chips, not hard to get right (simple task) BUT they did.Slow service - will NEVER visit again!!!!!!

Top class fish and chips, always quick hot and very tasty. I pop in very regualy when im in the area and always get a smile and quick services even at peek on a friday night.
