Fairbourne Chippy in Gwynedd

Food was appalling I've seen toddlers make better burgers out of play doh than the ones here The fish was the size of a single chip and tasted horrendous Worst chippy I've ever had

If I could give 0 stars I would, the cod I ordered must've been starved or something because it was thinner than my arm, adding to that I ordered the regular cod so I just get shivers down my spine when I think about how small the 'small cod' must've been, i dont even think a microscope could help me at that point. I think traumatized is an understatement. I will make sure to let everyone know to definitely not come here and atleast keep a few mile radius away from it just incase they'd have to suffer from the sight of the shop. Fairbourne chippy is a ridiculous name, the chippy in the name is a scam, I ordered chips and I received more packing paper than chips so please consider renaming yourselves fairbourne paper.

Called today Had chips and curry sauce, Chips all horrible, dry and under cooked, curry was tasteless, Infact worst chips and curry sauce I have had a long time. Seagulls enjoyed them more than I did. £4.70 🍟chips £3.00 curry £1.70 so not cheap either

Great food. Lovely service from two nice girls. A big order and it was really tasty. Homemade chips are recommended!!

We ordered food from here last night for the first time. Unfortunately it was a bit disappointing. We realised when I got home that we weren’t offered salt & vinegar, therefore the chips were just plain. The chips were ok but lacked taste due to there being no seasoning. The cheeseburger and chicken burger just came as they are, no salad, no sauce offered. Very basic. The curry sauce and battered sausage was tasty though. Will probably try again and make sure I remember to ask for salt & vinegar but unfortunately I wouldn’t recommend the place after our first visit.

Just the job for a chippy tea on the seaside. We arrived on a busy evening so were warned of the wait (20-30mins), and invited to order with the option to leave a phone number and come back when it was ready, or wait inside with a cup of tea. We chose to wait with a brew, and were rewarded with lovely fresh food wrapped in paper, which we carried the short walk to the seaside to eat. Fish and chips were great, and Glamorgan sausages and pea fritter are nice as meat-free options. Portions are more than adequate for the prices, which are reasonable. Lovely friendly service, thanks for perfectly rounding off our trip to the coast!

Ok. chips great, just need to cook fish longer batter was still soggy (, sorry don't like giving low marks) sausage not good and pea's poor. Again sorry. Don't know about eat in?

We had fish and chips from here on Wednesday evening 😋 The meals were hot and fresh, the fish was delicious and the portion size was more than adequate. You can order in advance which is useful.

Could possibly be the best chips I've ever had! Amazing service great food!

We have had fish and chips from Fairbourne Chippy many times over the last few years and it's always been good and freshly cooked, yesterday however the fish was very undercooked with batter so pale and soggy it looked as if it had been dipped into fat that wasn't up to temperature. The chips although golden had a strange taste. Disappointing as £22 wasted, should have returned them. Hope this is just a blip because it had been very good in the past.

Pea fritters are genius! ...Best chips around...cooked to order which makes all the difference..fresh..... so cosy and relaxed inside for families..

Such polite staff...cosy inside area was perfect for our family, I felt at ease with my children there, nice relaxed feel. Best chips around by far, food is cooked to order so it isn't sat around keeping warm....pre order easiest in busy periods..we reserved a table... take out chips the next week were just as lovely, and the chicken burger, pea fritters are a must!!

Traveled all the way from West Sussex to wales to try and see new things, we decided to see what was near us in the local vicinity and found fairbourne chippy, and thank goodness we did, it’s absolutely amazing, food was delicious, price was a steal, staff were friendly and helpful and we even had to go back a second time!! A-M-A-Z-I-N-G

Absolutely lovely lady that runs it , so friendly. The best fish a chip shop I have visited in a long time ! We have traveled from West Sussex in the south of England and it’s the best place we have eaten the service and quality of the food is amazing and the price can’t be beaten !

Great fish and chips. Needed to preorder as very busy, but not a problem as bar and beach down the road. Ready in the hour that was promised and well worth the wait. We are very fussy by our own admission. The smooth white cod was perfectly cooked in light crispy batter. Nice chips and curry sauce. Staff friendly and helpful.

What a surprise, from the outside it look nothing special but the fish and chios were excellent. The service was friendly and reasonably quickly.

Staff were busy chatting to each other when I walked in , so I waited patently and placed my order, Cod & Chips, please. Collected my order 10 minutes later & drove the 2-minute to car park over looking Cardigan Bay to enjoy our fish supper. View was stunning, Cod & chips were Awful, very little white fish, majority being sort of light brown, you'd expect fresh fish with the chippy being located within 200 metres of the sea, but sadly not in this case. My advice shop around Barmouth further up the coast has a few fish & chip shops. & if you check Fairbourne Chippy's web page for opening times before you visit, don't be surprised if it's closed when you get there.

Visited while on a day out absoloutley loved it chips were crisp and not greasy with plenty of salt and vinegar. The cod was a good size for the price and very fresh. Staff were lovley and the place felth very homley with art work on the walls. Drove down to the fromt to eat them couldnt of been better. And everything was cooked to order

The chips were OK but the fish was terrible really oily and the batter was thick and uncooked. I would not recommend other than for chips if desperate

Ignore the bad reviews. The service is excellent. The food deicious. As I live here, I eat in or take away fairly often. The prices are most acceptable. Fairbourne is a small village, we do our best to welcome visitors. Facillities here are better than in many places. So enjoy.

Would visit again 100%, The food was cooked to perfection and the service from the staff was outstanding. Given the current climate the pricing was fair considering how good it was, the fish was massive. The perfect meal before a local wild camp!

Undercooked batter on our £6 fish! Couldn't eat. Fish tasted like it had come out of the freezer. Chips were skinny and not fluffy or crispy texture. The only saving grace was the curry sauce. I would not go there again.

Honestly and I don't put bad reviews. Food was a fantastic price, but you got what you paid for. Worst chippy I've had, im sorry. To be fair it was extremely busy having to wait 20 minutes and I'm guessing that had an impact on the food. The burger and chips looked nothing like the pics.

Two portions of chips left out of order and too tired to drive back to collect the missing portions after a day walking up to the summit of Cadair Idris. The chip portions were not generous to start with. Chips ok but mostly quite hard. Fish was ok but batter was thin and flaccid. Mushy peas were good though. Very disappointing experience overall. Check your order before leaving.

It's great to find a seaside chippy that has old values. Lovely to find Fish and Chips the way they should be... Steaming Hot, Cooked to order and Wrapped in paper. The fish was good quality and nicely cooked. Fresh cut chips cooked perfectly and not badly priced. We will be back.

We were greeted with a friendly and courteous lady who took out order. The service was exemplary throughout our dining. The quality of food was top notch..!! Home made crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside chips, whilst the fish batter was light and exceptionally tasty. Top quality fish was also served. The premises is so clean with attention to detail you can clearly see the family business is cared for. And, they ensure they make you feel welcome throughout your stay. Really not very good. We had a takeaway. Chips and pie were hard. Batter on the fish hard. Inedible. Very disappointing.

Best fish and chips we have eaten in a long time! The cod was perfect and flavoursome with well cooked chips, and no grease! The scampi was delicious as were the chicken nuggets. A large family order at the end of the week which ended our stay in the area perfectly. Well organised chippy and all cooked to order.

Fairbourne Chippy isn't much to look at but the fish and chips are amazing! Tasty and crispy and the owners are really nice. I'd definitely recommend that anyone visiting Fairbourne visit these guys for some food.

We went at lunch time on a Saturday during the Easter weekend whilst on holiday, friendly staff and best fish and chips we've had in a long time. Not greasy at all. It was quiet and food was cooked to order whilst we waited for about 10-15 minutes.

The food is first class; and what really stands out, is the fish and chips - which are excellent - are wrapped in PAPER. No plastic. Just good old fashioned PAPER. Fish and chips always tastes better out of paper. And Fairbourne's Fish and Chips are some of the best we have ever tasted. Well worth a visit.

Dreadful. Greasy, sloppy overcooked fish, over cooked chips. Almost inedible. Pie heated in a microwave, The chicken burger and curry sauce survived. Avoid.

Reasonable prices but service and food production poor. Front of house servers more interested in reviewing till receipts and cash than dishing out order. Was eventually given order from the person who prepared it and also apologised for the delay. In summary, monopoly of fish and chips in 10 mile radius = complacency.

Always use this place when visiting usually top food and fresh tonight very disappointing frozen chips large fish!!!!! Two tiny pieces of tail end that looked anaemic n very soggy, I'd called in local shop n brought frozen chips n fish fingers, seriously wished I'd cooked now, waste of money. Excellent seaside fish and chips were enjoyed from Fairbourne Chippy. Prompt service by cheerful young staff. And great value too. We carried the meal to the wall at the beach and enjoyed the view across the sea as we ate. Lovely food.

Superb chicken curry an chips, very tasty Will defo be returning as a regular for curry nights. Staff were amazing, even tho they were busy, still kept me up to date on how long the wait would be A+++

If there is a queue the place is best avoided as service is very, very slow. We waited around and hour, which was ridiculous as there were not that many people in front. Cooking each order individually did result in good fish and chips. Fish and chips were well cook but the fish portions are very small. Another time I'd try the kebab shop a few doors away who looked able to serve people efficiently!

Went to get tea for the family after a day out. The chips were hard and we couldn't eat them. The sausages weren't nice either and the gravy. Spent £18 and it was a total waste of money. AVOID Giving 1 circle in the review was being kind.

Ordered fish and chips for the family. The chippy is very popular during holiday season so get there in good time and prepare to wait, 45 mins in our case. The food wasn't piping hot when given to us which was disappointing. The chips were somewhat small in size and there were lots of small bits with them, like the end of the fry but all 4 portions were like this. Portion size was on the small side. Collectively we marked them 4/10. So not the best and objectively there is room for improvement. On the other hand the fish and sausage was good, as was the curry sauce. The staff were friendly.

We visit Fairbourne regularly but today we had breakfast at the chippy. Really great quality ingredients. Sausage and bacon very tasty. Generous portions and a reasonable price all freshly cooked. Friendly service as always. Thank you

We enjoyed eating fish and chips on the beach, staff were lovely and made an extra effort for a dietary intolerance in our group.

Based on quite a few negative reviews I didn't expect much but we have had a decent experience although one piece of the fish was disproportionately smaller than the other one 🙂. Fish cakes and chips were good too. I'd have no problem visiting again.

I stayed in fairbourne for 10 days, I consider myself a breakfast sandwich connoisseur. I had a sandwich everyday there and it was perfect, better than any cafe I have ever been to in Wolverhampton. Packed out with meat and the chef is surgical with the brown sauce, perfect amount, the ingredients are better quality than I'm used to. The fish and chips were super nice, nice quality and very reasonably priced. Also the burger and chips are nice, the burger seemed better quality than you get in your average chippy. The staff are lovely, and hard working, everything is made to order, they are a great team. You can tell head chef is very experienced and talented and I feel like she is passionate about producing a nice meal for her customers. They have a couple of younger girls there and props to them for getting through a scorching hot couple of weeks.

Decided to treat the family to fish and chips while on holiday for a week and sadly they weren’t up to much. Drenched in oil. Soggy batter. Very disappointing considering I paid nearly £30 to feed four of us.

Best Fish and Chips I've had in a very long time. Cooked to order, fresh, crispy batter, perfect combination of squidgy and crispy chips. Wrapped in paper, not silly boxes.

I went to the only chippy in fairbourne and it is the worse chippy, I have ever been to. The chips were like they had been cooked at least three time. And I waited for at least 15 minutes and when I went back to complain the women in the chippy were aggressive and rude. Don't go to this chippy go any where else.

Turned up didn't know to ring first very helpful and friendly worth the wait excellent fish and chips and mushy peas. They are providing food in these difficult times so I expected a wait. Used 2 time's this week and I look forward to coming back when I'm back visiting Fairbourne. Full covid protection worn when I visited. Well worth a visit. Thanks again.

Top tip - call in advance to book your order for collection at a certain time, as food is usually cooked to order so it'll save you waiting 15 mins. Always excellent :)

Been here two times now, once for battered sausage, chips and curry sauce and a second time for one of their specials which was the burger night. Both times the food has been excellent and although there’s a short waiting time, all food is cooked to order and is excellent. Luckily it’s only a short distance away and you can call ahead to book your food. It’s worth noting it’s cash only. Cannot wait to go back.

After 1/4 hour wait our order was taken, after another 1/2 hour we found out that the chippy was unable to cook due to breakdowns - on asking we were informed wait would be at least another hour. We asked for a refund. Zero communications from the people working there as to the situation, why did they even take our order ?The staff were taking none of the normal Covid precautions. This place is CASH ONLY, and NO MASKS are worn by the staff.

Not sure what the rest of the menu is like but the chips are great.

Don't bother. Staff rude unless your local where you get priority. Only takes cash during vivid. Long wait for very substandard food. Shop is dirty staff are unkempt. Trying to find something positive is impossible.

Note that on Saturday at least chippy is opening at 4:30pm plus 10 mins for cooking - owner could update this. Had a bad attitude.

We had fish and chips here whilst staying in Fairbourne. The food was extremely well priced and cooked very well. The taste was exactly what I would expect and for that it made the visit great value for money. The staff were friendly and helpful.Would definitely recommend this chippy.

Drove over to Fairbourne on a Friday night & pre ordered. Fish & chips, mini fish & chips, mushy peas & a pickled onion. When I arrived the girl was very friendly & said won’t be long. Waited literally 2 minutes & everything was bagged up & ready for me.The food was fantastic, have to admit fish & chips is not my favourite choice of takeaway, but I can honestly say this was probably the best fish & chips I’ve ever had. Fish was beautiful & flakey, batter was light & the chips were well cooked, not under cooked which is my pet hate in a chip shop. Keep up the good work & I will be back

Visited many times, always friendly staff and friendly atmosphere. Normally a bit of a wait but you can see them cooking it all fresh in front of you. Worth the wait. Check opening times in winter, different to times in summer. They are also supporters of the village activities.
