Skelton Mill in Redcar and Cleveland

We stayed in the cottage work colleagues with person we support who has autism and learning difficulties .Nothing was to much bother, they delivered our evening meal to the cottage, they though about the person we supported and went above and beyond. On the morning we all went to restaurant for breakfast they were so kind and considerate, asking if we would need music turning off, give person we support a cake . Was just great experience from start to finish nothing was to much trouble. I would highly recommend this place and the cottage was beautiful ..Thankyou for making our stay a day and night to remember xx

Had a hen weekend here with the package of the overnight stay, party etc. condition of the cottage and other pods were great and everything was clean. Got given the afternoon tea not long after everyone arrived and then buffet for 6:30 when the party started. Breakfast also included the following morning. Had a great time and Dave and co were great hosts.

We had a brilliant time host was fantastic nothing too much trouble food was amazing as was the hot tub we laughed all night and didn't want to come home.We met a hen party there which made the night much more memorable carnt wait to return hopefully sooner than later thank you fore a brilliant evening

Do not stay here, basically a bed in a shed at an extortionate price for what you get, no water in the pod unless it's from the dehumidifier and the toilet is across a muddy car park,

Top night, hot tub and 'travellers' caravan were something different. Thoroughly enjoyed it. The hosts were a good hospital lot. I recommend it, in fact I've already got a bunch of my old army mates looking into it.

Wow just wow, I stayed last night as a group of 23 for a hen do. On the party package. Everyone really enjoyed the night accommodation, staff all top notch, but it was the. Night do, food buffet excellent, cocktails lovely but it was Dave who absolute star made our night it couldn’t have been a better, beware I think we might all be back lol

Fantastic hen party, with outstanding host Dave. It was a laugh from start to finish, lovely accommodation and excellent value for money. £99 each fir over night stay, afternoon tea, party food, breakfast, disco and hot tub was outstanding.

Me and my partner stayed to celebrate my 21st birthday and we had the most gorgeous time, the food was lush and the pods with the hot tub were cosy, the bed was so comfy too! we would definitely come back again the staff are so lovely and accommodating

On our way home this beautiful location and the 10 of us have had an amazing time. It rained the entire time and the owner, Dave could not have been more accommodating. We were visiting from Durham, Manchester and Macclesfield so arrived at different timea. On arrival our afternoon tea was ready and waiting for us. **Make them aware ahead of time for allergies as we did not and had to waste some food which we hated** The afternoon tea is a selection of Egg, Cheese, Chicken and Fish sandwiches along with quiche and a cupcake. If you are arriving late like we did, maybe ask them not to prep it for you as the parmo dinner was delicious!! We went with the party package which gave us free drinks, three meals a day and one heck of a party. The second night he let us choose from the menu and the food was incredible! The chicken curry and beef pie had been cooking all day. Absolutely delicious After reading other reviews we were a little nervous BUT Dave could not have done more for us. Yes he is a straight talker and he has his rules BUT he has some leeway if you ask very nicely. He doesn’t pussy foot around, has a cracking sense of humour and entertained us all weekend Yes you do need to drink your free drinks before a certain time and yes he sticks to a schedule but he is up and available to the guests all day. You can’t drink your own alcohol in the bar or around and about as he doesn’t have the license for it. You can drink them in your accommodation and hot tub. The drinks at the bar are very reasonably priced. CASH ONLY as he doesn’t have wifi. We were attending a 70th birthday weekend and he made sure all of us were warm, fed, happy and taken care of. 10/10 Would recommend Also, don’t take too much stuff as the accommodation is snug! If you are as tall as me, make sure you’re not in the caravan haha Other than that, the rooms are lovely If you have a themed night, make sure you have a spare costume for Dave and the barman Matthew. Family and friends just spent 2 nights celebrating a 70th birthday. We had the best time ever. Even with horrendous rain for a day and a half. Dave the owner couldn’t have been any more accommodating by making sure we all stayed warm in our accommodation throughout our stay. Party night on both nights was absolutely brilliant. Dave joined in our theme for each night. Sh**t shirts and where’s Wally. Dave, his family and the other guests who joined in our fun made the weekend an absolute blast! Dave we will be back so get your whistle ready to compete with our 70 year old!

Decided to have a night away. Hot tub and food for a birthday treat. On way to destination contacted by owner demanding to know what time we would be getting there. Check in by 18.00 this was just after 17.00. On arrival met by (I assume owner). Shown to bungalow style accommodation wit hot tub. Fixtures and fittings aged and doing signs of over use by a few decades. Rules given which would need to adhered to right down to departure at 10am. On checking the accommodation found brown stain on sink in the outside toilet. Eventually managed to get in contact with owner who spat on finger and attempted to rub it off. All the while complaining that we had disturbed his tea for a bit of a soap stain. Explained that given we had paid £160 for the night we at least expected it to be clean. Said owner then became annoyed over what he classed as a soap stain and left. When we eventually tracked him down to ask if he was going to clean sink he became aggressive and claimed it was cleaned! Asked for refund but was refused and left. This man needs some serious customer care training. I have pictures of the sink attached and also the luxury tea/coffee making facilities attached. Avoid if its a relaxing break you are after.

I was invited out for Saturday cream tea to celebrate a colleagues wedding at Skelton Mills - but was barred by their extremely unpleasant and socially stunted owner before I even got inside! There was hardly any car parking spaces and I was required to find a space outside of it next to a badly fenced off barn, basically the venue didn’t have enough parking room - it wasn't a car park just a space that was already packed with cars . So I parked my car by the fence and proceeded to the "mill' for afternoon tea. As I walked to catch up with my friend Louise the owner shouted after me telling me I'd covered 3 parking spaces ( it was just a muddy bit of land ) - and I needed to move it . He wasn’t remotely polite or accommodating as you might expect a business owner and host to be , in fact he shouted at me from a distance, his attitude was ridiculously poor ! And when I responded with’ there's nowhere else to park’ he kept it rude and mansplained, talking down to me . He had to have the last word and never once spoke in a pleasant or conciliatory way about what was essentially a non incident that was easily fixable. He just upped the anti and became ruder and shouted and this with a garden hoe in his hand! And even if he did own the joint it wasn't as if the patch of mud people had to cram their cars into was even a car park ! So I stood up for myself and he barred me! I’m now having a latte and scone at M&S Haha! What a come down - Not !!! WTch out for grumpy trashy barons with farm implements!

We had great day/night for friends birthday £99 party package - overnight stay in the pods/lodges including use of hot tubs. Arrived at 3pm Dave gave us the low down, we had packed mini afternoon tea on arrival, use of hot tub, 630 pizza, parmo buffet with loads of extras including Dave’s homemade pork pies! Delicious! Worth the heartburn! 3 drinks, disco & Kareoke, breakfast in the morning! Dave was good host ensuring we had great time!

We went here for my daughters hen party and had the most amazing time. Dave and his staff looked after us and made sure the stay was fantastic. There was nothing that was too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend Skelton Mill for anyone looking to have a night away without the hassle of being on bars and clubs. Thanks for your hospitality

Lovely night away with my husband. Greeted by Dave who was really nice and friendly, he showed us all around the site and how to work our hot tub then left us to it. The pod itself was nice and clean with tea and coffee facilities. The hot tub was big and clean. There is 2 toilet blocks both have a toilet, sink, soap, mirror and a shower, one has a baby changing facility, both really clean. We didn't have food on the evening but breakfast was lovely. Definitely will be staying again at some point, would recommend paying a visit even if it's just for food. Overall really nice place.

We stayed as a family in a lodge for two nights. I’d read many reviews both good and bad and decided before I arrived I’d review the place myself based on my own experience. We arrived early and the owner let us check in earlier than we should have by about 15 minutes. The guy seemed friendly enough. Showed us around the site which was clean and looked nice. He showed us to our lodge and told us about the hot tub, breakfast and a few other things then he left us to it. The lodge was small but for two nights we’d manage and our son was excited to get in the hot tub. The hot tub instructions said to shower before getting in so we went to…. I opened the bathroom door and it was a toilet and a small sink, no washing facilities which was disappointing. We decided to eat on site as there was a 3 course for £20 offer on with £10 for the same for children. Nice little bar area, we ordered drinks and chose what we wanted from the small menu. The owner came to take our order and it went downhill from there. I ordered steak, well done, nope the owner won’t cook a steak well done, I laughed as did my husband, we thought he was joking, he wasn’t, he said a well done steak may aswell be a burger, I laughed and said I’ll have a burger then, he said I’ll cook it medium but that’s it, Wow this guy is actually serious and I’m being refused food based on my choice of how I want it cooking. I told him there were no other option I liked on the menu, he said oh. He looked at my hubby to take his order and didn’t seem to care. I asked him to give us 5 minutes and we decided to go elsewhere as this guy clearly didn’t want our business. He came back after a few minutes and I said we were going elsewhere, he couldn’t have given a toss by the look on his face. We went on to find the most lovely pubs for both nights of our stay with landlords and staff who were friendly and accommodating, serving me the most beautiful well done steak. We made the decision that we would not be going for the planned afternoon tea in the tea rooms the next afternoon, nor would we go in the bar for a drink. We didn’t sleep to good, the mattress wasn’t good at all. He definitely needs to take a look at that, I laid at one point on the sofa bed with my son and wasn’t sure which was most uncomfortable. We went for breakfast the next morning and the owner greeted us friendly enough it was like the night before had never happened. Breakfast was nice and the tea rooms itself was really lovely. Only tea and coffee served for drinks, no juice and no offer of a drink for our son so we had to buy him one, definitely needs looking at. There is a little play area on the site for children which the owner pointed out to my hubby for our son and he loved that part of the site. The owner also pointed out to my husband each of his fancy cars by make and then pointed to our Honda which was parked next to his cars, what a humble guy. The second night we could smell a bit of a bad smell whilst in the hot tub…sewerage we came to the conclusion it was so hopefully that can be sorted for future guests. We didn’t go and speak to the owner about it, to be honest I normally would have regardless of the type of person I would have to deal with but my son being with us we just didn’t bother as I wasn’t sure he’d care or what the outcome would be. Second nights sleep was as bad as the first. We couldn’t be bothered with breakfast on our leaving day. We were both shattered and just couldn’t be bothered to exchange pleasantries so we packed the car up and my hubby took the key back, him being able to say yes it was ok when he was asked, had I been asked I’m not sure what I’d have came out with. Definitely only a one night stay over place without having any washing facilities but we wouldn’t go again regardless for obvious reasons and we wouldn’t recommend it for the same reasons.

Food was good , drinks really really expensive. £30 for a £6 bottle of wine or £6 for a small glass. . Surroundings were pretty. Would have liked to see it on a nice day because it was shorting it down when we stayed. The guy who runs it in my opinion needs to be more polite and amenable to his customers. Refused to give us something to dry outside seats to sit on. When I asked for semi skimmed milk he said milk is milk. And refused to give free drinking water in the bar even though it’s illegal not too. Rooms were ok , some sockets didn’t work and the pull out sofa bed was very hard and we could feel all of the wooden slats.. The cover didn’t cover 2 people ( single) and when he says he only provides toilet paper that is true. Not any hand wash to wash hands in the toilet in your rooms. We went as a group and had a buffet meal. I just prayed people hadn’t used the loo before we ate. With a few tweaks and the guy a little less sarcastic it would be a wonderful place.

We had so much fun here. The place has a lot of charm, the hot tub is lovely and the food nicely done. Best of all is Dave who clearly has a great time running it and wants his guests to have a great time too. Highly recommended and a real bargain imo.

If you need time out and not have to go far book the cottage, it was stunning! Such a quiet, tranquil and private part of the site. We love to party, love to socialise love to mingle but also love to hide away from the world and relax and this place is definitely going to be our go to to do this! I’m gutted cos I wasn’t very well so I don’t feel I appreciated this place enough. From checking in to checking out it’s something we have not experienced before, Dave is definitely the host with the most, he checked us in, showed us around, cooked our food and was just the best, we will definitely be back sooner rather than later..5*s off us for everything 😊

Called today with a friend for coffee and cake to find they were closed and usually didn't open until 11. However, our disappointment must have been obvious to the lovely staff who served us coffee and beautiful cake. Thank you so much for making our day so much better than it would have been.

We started here for a hen party with over 16 of us. We booked the party package which included Mini afternoon tea / sandwich box on arrival Accommodation with hot tub Disco / karaoke Pizza, chips, parmo buffet 3 feee drinks at the bar from 6.30 - 8pm Breakfast at 9am Most of us were next to each other in the rooms / pods so we weren’t limited on the amount of noise we could make. We had to be out of the hot tubs by midnight which was ok with us but you can stay up as late as you want All of the food was lovely - we had no complaints The disco and karaoke was lots of fun There’s a kettle in the rooms but no mugs so take your own Take your own towel Take your own hand wash etc There’s no showers in the rooms but is a communal one available and some of the pods have one in a separate bathroom There is no fridge in the room so take a cool box We all had an amazing stay and would defiantly go back The staff were all lovely and everything explained on arrival We had 2 people with dietary requirements - one gluten free and one no cheese and they were both catered for with no issues

Just returned home from an amazing stay at skelton mill. The tahlia lodge we stayed in was tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The hot tub was ready to go and lovely and hot. Dave the host was amazing and so friendly and makes a mean cooked breakfast. We will definately be visiting again. Thanks dave for your hospitality and for showing us your lovely classic cars.
