Went for a pint after work today and been very rudely told by the manager, named Owen that, : "your language stinks" Not the best way to address yourself to a costumer in front of everyone. Sorry for talking loud, as I lost about 60% of my hearing during my army time. Sorry for being abroad defending freedom in two war zones. This person has been rude to me in front of everyone, not the way to treat a costumer. This person has no people skills at all. Joao Fontinha

Arrive and it is tatty on outside, fag ends all round the entrance. once in the tiled floor was so sticky around bar your feet stuck to it and then stuck to carpet. The grill was not working so no grilled food like steaks etc. They came out with a revised menu as we ordered all of a sudden it changed to, can't do that can't do this so we left. Terrible place the waitress was very polite and apologetic - that was the only good thing.

Made a table reservation for my wife's Birthday on Wednesday 13th, although working under stress the staff were exemplary , our meals were cooked to perfection, we were well looked after, Ellia our waitress was so kind and caring , my advice to those who want to experience fine food and to be waited on by conscientious staff who pride themselves with the food they serve , then The Red Lion at Elstow , Bedford is the place for you, enjoyed every minute of our visit. Thank you.

Sun pub in Outwood. Service absolutely spot on and food really good. Liam especially attentive & friendly. Would recommend together with Rest of staff

Ordered the same meals as last week as we were very impressed with the food and standard of the food and customer service. I firstly asked where the giant prawn cracker was with the meal and to be told quite aggressively that they don’t have them. I was offered a Indian poppadom as an alternative I then started my meal which was this time on a skillet, to see that there was mainly onions, red peppers and juice accompanied by the not soggy crispy chilli beef. No sesames either. I had 3 mouthfuls of the food when the server asked if everything was okay with the meal and I explained how soft it was and drowned in onions, peppers and sauce. I was offered a round of drinks which we refused as we were driving. I had a further two mouthfuls of the food and refused to eat anymore. The rice was clearly microwaved and in clumps and the food was swimming in onions, peppers and Dave and no way crispy chilli beef. On asking to see the manager and asking for a refund for this particular meal we were refused as we had refused free drinks and a pudding. We never have a pudding with our meal and we didn’t not want another round of drinks due to driving. The whole experience was awful after such a pleasant and lovely meal the week before. Staff were aggressive and not compassionate towards our needs. My husband also ordered the same as the week before- half the food and the steak was grisly as well as sitting on a plate of sloppy onions. Will not be returning after such an awful dinner.

We received a friendly welcome, choosing and ordering food was a pleasure. The service was friendly and professional, the food delivered hot, well presented and very nice.

We thought we would try this as it is our local pub since moving to Elstow in March 2021. Can book on line and we rang just in case as wanted to go within 30mins. They were very helpful and invited us along. The staff were very friendly and has covid rules in place. Track and trace, hand sanitiser and space between tables. There is lots of choice on the menu and was hard to choose. I ended up with the surf and turf and wasn't disappointed. My husband had the buttermilk Italian style chicken and enjoyed it, said it was the best food he had , had in a long time. My son had the chicken fajitas and enjoyed it. when then had a dessert and the bill came out very reasonable. There is a beer garden with the cutest wooden huts with seating and also more seating as well. We will return again and again as very impressed.

Great food and exceptionally service from Ella. We eat here quite often as it’s local to us. Manager and staff are great - they have adapted brilliantly to the current way of life (Covid-19). Our waitress, Ella was just so good this evening; nothing no trouble to her. We had a lovely meal this evening - all staff were fab - bar, waitresses & manager but Ella in particular was fab :-) Thank you

Taking advantage of the Eat Out scheme with a mate. The pub is large and very nice inside and out. Seemed to be a bit short staffed. The food was good. My burger was very tasty, my mate had a classic mixed grill which was cooked as requested. Very nice experience. The question with the scheme is would I pay full price for the food? Yes. Some room for improvement. Like two ladies came in the Exit only door and were seated before me. We will be back.

We ordered the simply chicken and there was no jacket potatoes due to a restricted menu so one of us chose chips (unlucky me) the other person mashed potatoes. We also ordered gravy and a peppercorn sauce. We ordered a latte and a hot chocolate to have before our meal. When the drinks finally arrived (20mins) they were both cold! Sent them back, the hot chocolate was returned within a few mins, I'm pretty sure it was reheated in a microwave but my partner eventually got his Luke warm coffee after our meals arrived. When the meals finally arrived after 30 mins they looked fine BUT the chips were hard, the mashed potatoe powdery? and no pepper sauce which I eventually cancelled as my chicken was eaten and it still hadn't arrived!!! All in all we only paid £15 but it was £15 wasted!!! I actually came home and made us a sandwich as all I had eaten was a price of chicken and the same for my partner!!!!!

We ate here on Friday 10th July. They have implemented good social distancing measures so felt very safe during our time there. The app to order food and drink at our table didn’t appear to be working very well - teething problems perhaps but we managed to order at the bar. We doubled up on drinks so only had to visit the bar the once. Our meal was good and the service was excellent. We will visit again.

Met the new Manager Danny a few months ago, had a good chat , and his ideas are really coming to fruision, the Red Lion has been revamped to a high standard, the staff are amazing , so polite and caring and prepared to go that extra mile for you, the food is second to non and also to a high standard, just recently I took a large party from our Bowls Club there, for our Christmas Dinner the food was out of this world and service was on the top line, again I was in a large party having our Christmas get together there , Well Done Danny you pulled it off again, great food , great service and a fantastic time had by all. If you have a chance to experiance great food , with excellent service in nice surroundings then The Red Lion Elstow is the place to visit. Once again Danny and your Staff, a big Thank you.

What’s not to like.....? On a long journey, we decided to try out the Red Lion for a bite to eat instead of a service station. We were glad we did. Nice friendly atmosphere, excellent prompt friendly service, and pretty good food at pretty good prices. Great vfm. We might well try out a few more Sizzling Pubs.

After having a not very good meal at extortionate prices the night before it was nice to find a good pub with really good food at really good prices with a good atmosphere if we are in the area again we will certainly know where to go

We often use the The Red Lion in Elstow (sizzlers). You get what you pay for. The food is always hot tasty and edible. They often change the menu which is great. If you belong to the AA download the app and get 20% off. If we are a bit short and fancy a bite this is good value for money.

Good pub food, served quickly and a great price. Busy, friendly pub with plenty of parking and plenty of seating.

We are fans of sizzling pubs, having recently discovered the chain on a list up north. So when we realised there was one on our doorstep, we had to give it a go. Food-wise everything was good and as we expected. Food and drink prices are very reasonable and the fact a free meal was on offer for mum made it even cheaper. We are generally impressed with Sizzling Pubs, as we think all of the Mitchell’s and Butlers chains give good value and are much better than Wetherspoons. Good value food though the chicktastic skewer was very very dry. The 3 starters for £9 were very good value Unfortunately the evening was marred for us and many other diners by two unruly children running up and down the restaurant screaming. Another group of diners said they had moved tables because of them We told the children in the end to behave (as parents and staff didn’t seem to bother) What was doubly disappointing was that this was at 9:30 and a large sign said that under 18s must vacate the premises by 9:00pmTables not cleared at the end of the meal - surprising as at nearly 10pm we were almost the last there. Gents toilets had very wet floor around urinals. Do the management care? Do they even read these reviews as no-one ever seems to respond? Perhaps a letter to M&B headquarters will get some attention as we would like to go again as long as someone cares.

Since the makeover this pub has become more appealing. Decent prices for decent meals & right in the heart of the village

I would just like to say a massive thankyou to all the staff at the Red Lion. We held a wake there for my fathers funeral and they really did him proud. Everyone commented about the quality of the buffet on how good it was and the service they provided. If you are looking to host some event or sonething similar then i cant recommend the Red Lion enough. Thankyou all

Not your usual review, but it was so good at The Red Lion when we held mum's wake there that we had to make sure we left a review. For a start it was close to Xmas, but Gareth, the manager, made sure we had the lovely conservatory where we could host about 50-60 guests. He was happy to adapt the menu to suit us and kept it at a very reasonable price per head. On the day there was easily plenty of food and many people commented how good it was. The staff were very professional and nothing was too much trouble. The Red Lion has always been a good venue from way back, but it has undergone a transformation with the present owners and they are doing a really good job.

Loving the new refurbishment and colour scheme. Food and service was fantastic as usual, with plenty of choice for everyone.

We come here every week and love the food. My steak was cooked to perfection! 😍 Great value food with something for everyone!

We decided to go for a meal sunday to a place I would normally have a great meal OMG how wrong staff unfortunately must have had a late night one waitress clearly hung over talking about her late night ok I can get over that but when I complained about the quality of the food ( which we left) I was told you have to complain on line which was done no repose yet. I aked to have a word with mamager and was told again if you have an issue complete the form on line. Sorry like I said I loved this place but never again sorry but was horrible

Its strange, just across the road is one of Bedfordshire finest restaurant that we sometimes eat in and here am I eating in a place that serves average food, yes its tasty but there is nothing finesse about it. For what we would pay for one meal across the road we can probably eat once a week here.

never enough staff, waiting times for food are a joke when the pub is empty, menus not available when kitchen staff are off, wheelchair access is not good you need three people to hold the two sets of doors open. this pub has been my local for many years but Mitchel & Butler have ruined a nice country pub, i'm writing this review as when i complain to M & B customer service you get referred back to the pub your complaining about ! maybe M & B will take on board this review or send in a secret diner to see how it is run.
