Good bao buns and good noodles! The service was not perfect but the food was tasty! We took the set meal A and C and both were good.

Very yummy and high quality of Chinese buns. I tried the spicy tofu, it’s like SiChuan styled spicy not very hot but good flavour of Sichuan chillies. I also took the pork with pickled cabbage. And they offer seats that you can take a quick lunch. I finished my quick lunch within five minutes. 🤣

Lovely fresh and affordable bao

Delicious baos! We tried 4 of them and all were big, fluffy and well stuffed. Some were made for us, some were already done. All were hot and served with side soy sauce.

I’ve had the steamed buns to takeaway from here a couple of times and they’re delicious and very reasonably priced. Particularly recommend the coconut and pumpkin bun!

Great food particularly for any bun lovers. Curry bun and honey roast pork highly recommend. Service style is a little unusual with big gaps between items arriving, but very much worth it. I always visit when I get a chance, never disappointed. Prepare to queue at lunchtime

Fideos - Fideos Dan Dan y fideos de sopa Won Tun eran increíbles. El pollo katsu estaba bien, pero debería haber sido un salteado, no un fideo de sopa. Servicio - claramente estaban escasos de personal - solo una persona tomando órdenes para llevar y cenar; y la otra era el chef. Nos sentamos, y fue una larga espera para que nuestras órdenes fueran tomadas. Tuvimos que ir a la recepción a buscar nuestras latas de bebidas. Se olvidaron de nuestros baos, así que yo los había pagado y los había tomado como un regalo (para entonces se quedaron sin baos de cerdo asado con miel que estábamos deseando)! Luego, para colmo, nos dieron una factura equivocada y nos cobraron un servicio que fue muy descarado. En general, la comida era buena, el servicio era atroz. Noodles n Dumplings sigue siendo de lejos el mejor, en general excelentes fideos, un servicio fantástico y gran relación calidad-precio.

The man who served us was so lovely and the food was cheap and so yummy and absolutely huge portions, to the point where we couldnt even finnish the portion!

Deplorable service, speaking almost no English and doesn't know the menu. When we ask her a question, she either goes to the kitchen to ask or she reads the menu over our shoulder. Besides, on the map, more than half is crossed out because they no longer do it. The dishes have no taste, lack of sauce, the meat (you can't call it meat) is a mass of fat and fat. Truly a huge disappointment. The atmosphere was good because we were well accompanied and not thanks to the establishment.

Weird customer service. Google says they are open until 10pm, we arrive a little before 9 and see a guy at the door, ask if they are still open. He says yes if we want take away, as kitchen closes at 9. I say we were hoping to sit in and he may want to update opening times in Google. Then he tells me they are open until 10 but kitchen closes at 9. So I ask if we can come in, place our order before kitchen closes and eat in, leaving before 10. He says no, takeaway only. We leave very puzzled, we go and spend our money next door

Wonton soup was fantastic. The waitress was very friendly

We went here for a friend's birthday and the service was decent enough. I ordered a beef and noodle soup dish which looked great but I was very surprised to find it was rather flavourless. There was no umami punch and quite a few of the beef pieces had gristle on them. Still, I did try my friend's bao bun which was quite nice. The thing that I was most annoyed about was that just before me and my friends left, I went to the bathroom and in the meantime, another friend insisted on paying for all of us. I had no idea about this and so went to pay for my meal whilst my friends stood outside. The lady at the till knew full well my meal had just been paid for but had no problem having me pay for it again! It was only when we were halfway down the street when my friend thanked the one who had paid and I realised what had happened and told her. Anyway, we marched back and got them to refund the extra money back to my card. The response was fairly sheepish- clearly they hoped they'd gotten away with charging double. Not recommended.

Fast service. The bun is ok. The wonton soup is delicious. I had the soup as take away and it was well packed.

How many times do you think is acceptable for a restaurant to let you down... Well this place is twice. First time they said, come collect it yourself. Second time they didn't even do that.

The bao buns were absolutely amazing. We got the Sweet Lover Combo between the two of us, 8 bao buns, and it was very filling, and rather cheap. Would recommend.

We ordered the buns which were ok. The noodles Chicken tonkatsu sauce and Wanton soup were TASTELESS! I would not recommend this place. This is the most boring food we ever had. Waste of money. Just no effort. We were so hungry that we didn't have the choice but to eat. I'm asian so I know if it's good or not.

Very rude!!! I was the only customer there and he(I think the owner) forgot 1 out of 3 things I ordered. When I mentioned it, he tried to gaslight me and said I only ordered 2 things. Afterwards he told me it was already being made in the kitchen. First telling me I didn't order the item and then saying it was being prepared when the table that came after me and ordered the same baozi, got theirs before me. When I went to pay and told the girl at the register I ordered the soup dumpling, the owner berated me and told me "xiaolongbai is not soup dumpling". I am chinese and know that there are different kinds, but most English speakers would call them soup dumpling. Also this place is dirty and not tasty. It's better to buy from your local asian market and steam them yourself. Those are much tastier. I saw this placed changed ownership. It seems they are using the high star rating of the previous owners. Do not come here.

Every time we order online there will be dishes or drinks missing. no one pick up the phone either.

Very dirty place. Saleswoman who stares at you all the time and doesn't know how to properly serve the customer. The bao was not good.

I just got 2 scallion pancakes. They are absolutely terrible - completely inedible as I can't even break them apart properly because they are so tough and there is no scallions in the pancake. So disappointed that I paid 3 quid for just in chewable plain stable bread.

I ordered every bun, and none of them were disappointing. The northern-style hand-made buns are full of fillings and the chili oil is also great. Special mention for the red bean paste filling, it is not the pre-made sweet kind, it is completely handmade and has small red bean particles (I tasted what my wife ordered). I don’t have much of a sweet tooth. After eating 4 steamed buns (pork sauerkraut, pork cabbage, pork pickled cabbage, green vegetables and mushrooms), I even sold a red bean paste for walking 😺 I plan to buy 10 of them when I return to London. I have been here a few times and have always thought the waiting times were a bit long. However, tonight we waited over an hour for our food while sitting in the restaurant (and this was a salad and bao so nothing complicated). We also had to wait 30 minutes to order. When we prompted the waiter after 45 minutes had went by since our order he then ignored us, served everyone that has sat after us and didn’t even approach us to explain or apologise. It was when he served people that had arrived just 30 minutes ago and we still didn’t have food after waiting in for over an hour we decided we had to just leave without our food. The waiter then smiled at us as we left as if he was happy we were leaving because he didn’t want to be honest that he had forgotten our order and had instead chosen to ignore us and hope that we leave. He said he was busy but again everyone else was served before us and we had just order buns and a salad. I’ve never had such a terrible experience in a restaurant and it has really turned me off coming back again.

This is a super friendly neighborhood restaurant with incredible food! The whole team was so welcoming and provided hot and fresh food! We tried several noodle dishes and dumplings and nothing disappointed!

We were treated rudely by another restaurant for having a child with us. Sister Bao House not only welcomed us, their food was amazing (even for vegetarians) and their staff was so nice to our daughter! Highly recommend for families!!

🍜🍜NOODLES ON THE CHEAP🥢🥢 Sister Bao Express Portobello, Clerk Street and St Leonards Street, Edinburgh I went along to the Clerk Street restaurant. It's compact with counter seating and a few tables and chairs through the back of the restaurant. You can also order take-away. They specialise in Chinese Street Food that's made fresh. Think steamed buns, wantons, noodles and rice dishes. The most popular deal is the Set Meal A where you get 1 x noodle dish, 1 x bun and 1 x drink for £12.00. For your noodles you can choose the protein/vegetarian option, the type of noodle and either sauce or soup based. However I chose the Katsu Chicken Rice Noodle Dish which was £9.00. The steamed buns around the table looked great and big thumbs up from everyone. My dish was okay, but it was very dry. There was little if any sauce and the katsu chicken was over seasoned and extremely salty. On the plus side, portions are huge! Service was mediocre with cans of drinks delivered to the table by hand, not on a tray with no offer of glasses or straws. Dishes are brought at different times, again not on a tray just one dish carried at a time. Expect to wait a bit for your food. Overall, decent food at a decent price.

The girl at the reception is exceptionally rude for multiple times. Last time I had chili wontons, and when I paid at the cashier, I casually said the price has risen, she shrugged her shoulders, gave an eye roll, and said 'that's the price...'..Today I went to order a rice dish and said I would like to sit in. After realising that she has put a service charge on my bills I said sorry can I change to take away then, she shrugged, made a rude hand gesture, and looked really unhappy. I asked her why she did the hand gesture and she was being rude, she started complaining that she had to re-do the amount on the till...This is the second time that I have experienced her being rude and condescending, judging customers and being extremely unpleasant when she is simply asked to do her job. Since she has been doing this as a pattern, I can imagine that she has been doing this to most other customers. This leaves a bad impression of Sister Bao, since the food here is delicious. I hope something can be done about this.

Unpleasant, under new ownership and no longer serving authentic freshly made Chinese food. Bao are pre-made and kept warm so they’re not fluffy and fresh, served on a cold plate instead of in a bamboo steamer like they used to be, and served with soy sauce for dipping which just doesn’t make sense. Noodles now no longer taste freshly made and the sauce, rather than being delicate, aromatic and complexly flavoured like it used to be, consisted just of burnt garlic and chilli flakes- no flavour, just unbearable heat and the unpleasant texture of burnt chilli flakes all over your noodles. This place used to always be full and have a lovely atmosphere but clearly the decline in the quality of food has emptied the place. The servers were nice but unfortunately the food was terrible. Very upsetting as this used to be my favourite place to eat in Edinburgh. Now it’s just a waste of money.

A terrific wee bun and noodle place in Newington. I highly recommend the oil spill soup - intensely spicy and very flavourful, with fresh herbs.

Authentic bao and noodles! Unexpectedly good food :)

Had lunch in this place and really liked the vibe. Service was friendly and the bao were really delicious. You tiao very nice too. Xiao long bao were a bit lacking in broth, but still moist and tasty.

Awesome wee place. Authentic, instantly greeted and shown to restaurant area. Small wee place with quite an extensive menu, we tried 4 different buns, a rice dish and a noodle dish- all 10/10 !!! Highly recommend this place

Went there some time ago, good enough food for the price. When I walked pass the stairs I think I heard someone singing downstairs?😂 He was very good

This isn't a fancy place, but it doesn't pretend to be either. Simple, tasty, traditional northern chinese baozi at a sensible price. We had a baozi each and shared a noodle dish. Fair warning, the noodles were pretty average, but we didn't come for noodles... These baozi are quite big, so don't be surprised if two or three fill you up. Would have been nice to see some vegetarian options like egg and chive, but pork baozi are a classic. Service was friendly and quick, they have a load of baozi steamed up and ready to go so we got to tuck in pretty promptly even while it was so busy the poor waiter was getting rushed off his feet.

I've been eating here religiously for 3 years, but something changed a few months ago. The cook was an old chinese man, cooking amazing food, but he is not here anymore. The dumpling noodle soup used to be so delicious, and now it is just soy sauce soup...very salty and no special taste, very disappointing. The mushroom dumplings used to be homemade, but now they served the frozen ones from the Chinese supermarket! They also took the homemade soy milk off the menu. Very disappointed :( the place used to be so busy Saturday lunch time, but now there is nobody there.

Delicious bao buns and noodles with lots of options

Fantastic experience - delicious food, filling portions, prompt efficient service & stunningly great prices - I cannot recommend it enough. They also have a good variety of vegetarian options.

We ate at Sister Baos and ordered, among other things, "Fried Soybean Suace Noodles" - NOT spicy. The waiter definitely understood that this dish shouldn't be spicy. We received an extra spicy hot dish, which even got a smiley on the receipt. It wasn't a mistake, it was intentional. We do not recommend this restaurant.

First time trying Sister Bao tonight. The Dan Dan Noodles and the dumplings were really good. And this is coming from a person who ate them often in Hong Kong. Will visit again. Service was good. Update 21.8.23 Visited again today after the first time since Christmas 2022 during lunch time. The DD noodles were the same ,service was fine. Not Sister Bao’s fault but those mainland china students absolutely ruined the experience for everyone today, talking so loud all the way throughout despite being in a small public space, those mainland people have all that money to study in Edinburgh but can’t buy a bit of etiquette and class.

Super friendly and helpful service. The Bao are extremely good! I highly recommend the coconut and pumpkin one.

It’s not great. The buns are pretty dry and the pancakes were solid. Gyoza were good. Waitress wasn’t very friendly.

Great xiao long bao (soup dumplings)!

J'ai pris le hot spicy beef qui était très épicé. Je le recommande pour les gens qui aiment très épices. J'ai aussi pris un bun au miel qui était correct mais je n'ai pas senti le goût du miel et il y avait peu de garniture.

Atmosfera w lokalu świetna. Obsługa bardzo przyjazna. Jedzenie dobre, ale nie świetne. Trochę brakowało mi przypraw, przez co moje danie (makaron z wołowiną i pomidorami w wersji z sosem) było niezbyt wyraźne.

The Staff & Owners were darling. The Bao was delicious. They just needed a little more steam heat. The dumplings were awesome and the menu looks like it has incredible dinner items. Don't shy away for a dinner here versus a lunch or snack as that's all I had time for. My local friend took me here and loves it as well. It was alright. My ramen was labeled vegetarian, but I'm pretty sure there was some sort of fish or oyster sauce that made the plate taste really fishy? Other than that it was good with kind staff.

Very bad, never visit again. Flavors and recipes are amateur. Skin of steam dumplings are tough and doughy, fillings are disgusting, mushy and taste weird. 70%of the menu are not available, load of item got crossed. Price is ridiculous too. Pathetic

Not sure how this place even gets more than 3 stars.. the food is ok, dumplings were fine but the noodles lacks flavours. Don’t bother ordering them. The service is also poor.. we went there tonight. First of all we don’t know what the dishes mean and the guy taking the order didn’t pay attention to what we were asking and ended up ordering something which had noodles and cilantro only..my wife ordered katsu fun and it wasn’t good either..just plain noodles with fried chicken.. Also when the meal arrived we were not given any cutleries..we had to take and serve ourselves. The service guy always seems to be busy with his phone and he even forget some of our order and later when I reminded him he came back and told us that the last one was served to the next table when in fact we ordered way before they arrived.. Honestly money was flushed in the toilet..not going back..

I'm *so* happy to have found this little gem. Where to start? Firstly, the service & staff are so polite; always happy to chat to you and make sure you're enjoying yourself. The food is absolutely delicious and it's so great to find a high quality, yet super affordable, authentic Chinese in the city. Go, go, go!

Ordered dan dan noodles and braised chicken leg fun, both were superb. The chicken one was well worth the price. However, the XLB and rose red bean bun were let-downs. XLB’s skin was too thick, did not taste like XLB at all and the red bean bun filling was too dry, could’ve gotten better ones from the supermarkets. Overall, would recommend this restaurant for noodles, but not the XLB or the red bean bun.

Don't be put off by shabby steamed up windows. Really interesting authentic bao buns and dumplings. Veggie options a bit limited and sweet but the soups and noodles are spot on. No frills interior adds to authenticity!

Xiao lung Bao : It is definitely not delicious. Fried pork is small dishes charged over GBP10. Beef brisket isn't juicy. Only the dumpling is normal standard. It is disappointed we ate here for 1st dinner in Edinburgh when we travelling.

Really nice food at an affordable price, definitely reminds me of my mum's cooking. Not your run of the mill restaurant stuff but has a cosy home vibe. Polite staff :)

Went here with a friend, we were having a good time until the waiter decided that it would be a good idea to be rude and drop/throw the food on the table next to us instead of our table, without saying a word. We tried to get his attention so he could explain which dumpling was which but no luck. It just seemed like the waiter did not want to be there and it was our fault. Don't worry, we did not take it personally, we just laughed as it seemed almost impossible to be this rude to people. We will obviously not be coming back, wish this has not been our experience and hopefully the waiter gets proper training on how to treat and serve human beings. Best of luck!

Mixed platter was some beef and diced pork belly! Nothing like the picture on the menu. Noodles came bland, dry and stuck together in a clump. Dumplings were hard, hardly any broth filling. Seriously dissatisfied and really hope the sit in option is better.

I've eaten in many Chinese restaurants all around the U.K. This place has the best belly pork I've ever had from a Chinese restaurant for sure. The food was fresh, hot and tasty. Pricing is very reasonable considering the location, my main dish was around £9-10. Quite relaxed atmosphere and you definitely don't feel rushed. Free WiFi is available. Would recommend.

I have brought honey roast pork bun and it is not the traditional pork bun that I eat in Hong Kong. That is vegetables bun??? Hate to see pork bun become vegetable. 叉燒包不是叉燒包，是菜肉包，還要難吃過菜肉包。 可不可以不要侮辱了叉燒包，叉燒包可是很好吃的。

My Sunday dinner go to. The hot and dry noodles are exceptional. If you want something more meaty, the Dan Dan noodles are perfect and today I tried the spicy been fun. The best thing about this place is that they have out of almost all Chinese restaurants I’ve been to, delivered consistently on the quality and tenderness of meat. Such a good place. The spicy tofu bao is now my favourite.

Just had amazing lunch here, I ordered beef spicy noodle. It's not ordinary chinese yellow noodle but like rice noodle, i love the texture. It was so refreshing, savoury and delightful. I will come back for sure, and the price is affordable, I spent £10. Another story, I left my phone there and the kind staff help me to get it back, thank you very much

Had their set meal A for 12£ (noodle +1bun+drink) but as I chose a different noodle dish (spicy chicken leg) so 1£ added extra. Overall tasty food. The noodle chicken soup was ok. Pak shitake bun was good too. But I think 13£ is a little expensive for the food.

Very good value for money - I normally have 2 Bao and this is enough for lunch, this plus a drink is usually £7! Delicious too :)

I ordered buns from this place, and there's a piece of glass fragment in the bun. This is extremely dangerous and can cause serious injury. Will never order again.

Expensive Asian fast food and a bit dry, but I like the flavors and convenience. Food seems to be frozen and re-heated. The buns have a low filling-to-dough ratio but remind me of home.

Tasty noodles, friendly service. Knocking down one star because £7 is very steep for a side of edamame! I ordered it because it was called "edamame salad" on the menu, which is a bit misleading. I would go back because it's good, but I'll be more careful with what I pick from the menu!

Sister bao is one of my favourite places in the city. The food is good, the service is fast, and the prices not too high even with the recent increases. Sister bao is always on my list of options if I'm looking for food in this area of Edinburgh

ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 😋 I can't wait till the next time I'm back which will be very soon! I was dining with someone who has an allergy and they were very lovely and attentive. All the staff were nice and the food is absolutely amazing, we are both veggie but that didn't stop the food from being so flavourful !! Definitely Definitely recommend. The buns are delicious and so nice to eat, the dumplings are a must try! - we had fan fried. Delicious! And the ramen soup was just soooo goood. Definitely give it a try 😊 Thank you Sister Bao!

I am very, very upset with the service I received from Sister Bao yesterday. It has previously been one of my favourite meal places in Edinburgh until now. Yesterday I received an apparent plant-based meal that was crawling with every meat you can think of. My tofu & chive dumplings came with prawn & some other form of meat in them and my tofu ramen had bits of beef & chicken floating around in them. I want to reiterate just how upsetting this is for me. I have been vegan for 8 years and had not touched meat since and for me to have now, just from the ignorance and lack of care of somebody else, is so disheartening and upsetting. I hope you do better & I won’t be back.

The small wonton soup was absofrickinamazing - I was quite full from my day but dropped by because I had a craving for baos. I found the recommended chicken Bao good (not great - wish it had been juicier inside) but the wonton soup omg. I’m already looking forward to going back.

You're definitely up for a delicious treat if you decide to eat here. The restaurant offers a great variety of vegetarian dishes. Easy to recommend

Very good tastey food with friendly staff

It is hard to beat this place in terms of price and overall quality of the food. Everything is handmade and absolutely delicious. For approximately 10£ each my husband and I were able to have two large bao each? split some Shanghai-style soup dumplings (Xiao Long Buns), and have Dan Dan noodles (a definite highlight in the menu!) This is probably be of our top Chinese restaurants in Edinburgh - a city that boasts a lot of truly excellent Chinese restaurants.

Quick and delicious with plenty vegan and veggie options. My fav go to are the rainbow salad - with tofu skin, fungus mushrooms and peanuts and shitake gyozas. That set can easily feed two. The premises are simple. It's a no fuss diner rather than a restaurant but those places are always the tastiest.

Too much dough, not enough filling. The xiao long baos had no soup inside them, and had more dough than Homer Simpson

I’m Chinese okay, these are definitely the best buns in Edinburgh. Also the best priced- you can a wholesome lunch for 2, for 15£.

Delicious takeaway. Had a curry chicken Bao and pork dumplings. Buns were steamed in house. Dumplings were grilled over a pan over an open flame. Highest recommendations for this, especially the dumplings.

One of the best places for a quick meal in Edinburgh right now. You can either sit in or take away. The price is affordable and the service is fast. I am personally in love with the vegetarian bao buns and the hot dry noodles. The dumplings were nice too.
