The food is very delicious and the portions are huge. All kinds of sirloin and beef are great! The little boss was so nice, he even gave us a discount and even gave us cakes for the kids!

It’s a great choice after finished work from king’s buildings. Authentic Hong Kong-style tea restaurant, the first choice after escaping from nuclear fried food, the pineapple-wrapped salt-and-pepper pork chop is delicious🤤, no need to think too much.

Tried the tomato,egg and beef which was such a great comfort meal. The ribs were very tasty and the French toast a satisfying finish. The owner is very friendly and attentive so I will be back again!

I went the restaurant around 9ish PM,the restaurant smells very oily.The place is very small,almost feels like an extension of kitchen.Please do not choose this place as your date,it will ruin you and your partner’s day. Upon my arrival,there is no greeting,the staff look at me like looking at an intruder.I told him what I want,and he told me to took a seat. After 25 minutes of waiting,I got my food.I ordered beef brisket,it was very good to be honest,the beef is tender and portion is large.But it cost £20,which is too expensive in Edinburgh. Hence,my suggestion is good for takeout if you have money.Definitely not ok for date,trust me I am saving your relationship.

I walk for 40 mins to arrive here at 20:00 on Saturday, it should be this restaurants business time, but it’s already closed, I don’t know why but I wouldn’t go here again.

Nice food with an old-fashioned Hong Kong cafe vibe. Pricing slightly on the high side in the neighborhood though. Noted that they had two different menus in two languages. The Hong Kong menu in Cantonese had more authentic Hong Kong cafe type of food and drinks. The English menu, as I understood, was an adapted version to suit local tastebuds and preferences. But that was very confusing to customers who read either one or both menus really. One bilingual menu would easily solve the problem.

I have to be very honest, was extremely excited to try this place out seeing as there are not many authentic cantonese places around Edinburgh. Upon arrival, the staff came across quite cold and looked at me and my girlfriend weirdly when we walked in. There is no atmosphere at all. Nonetheless, we didn’t care much for that because the food was most important. They gave us the menu and to our surprise they had changed the prices significantly from what was shown online. A simple dish or snack with cheap ingredients doubled in price. It was blatant overpricing. Again, we looked past this and ordered anyway. The food came and I have never been so disappointed. Nothing about it was authentic or justified the price. We left feeling robbed and will never return. Really do not recommend this place unless you want to be taken advantage of.

We went there at 12:30 on a Tuesday, which is within its opening hours according to Google and the sign posted in front of the restaurant, however it’s all dark, clearly not even preparing for opening to the public. The location is far away from city centre and we walked quite a while to reach the restaurant and it’s a huge disappointment for it not being opened. We had a look on the menu and the price is surprisingly high, a set meal is around £18 which is higher than other Hong Kong Style restaurants (within £15). Cannot comment on the taste of the food though because we don’t even have the chance to try it. Edit: we saw 2 other group of customers leaving because of the closed shop, it’s impacting quite a lot of people actually, and there is no notice of closure on its website either.

Foods are delicious. The sirloin rice beyond my expectations. Sauce are creamy and smooth while sirloins are tender and bouncy. I can’t find a phase to fully describe its flavor but it’s really delicious. Waitress is patient and welcoming. She is definitely a reason I would recommend this restaurant for. She makes you feel comfortable and treat you as friends. Anyway it’s a nice place to go.

Beef are amazing taste, and great weight. A soft drink free with main course, also rice could ask a free refill if you want more.

On our visit to Edinburgh we are delighted to visit this authentic Hong Kong cha chaan teng 茶餐廳, serving delicious classic dishes with a rather tongue-in-cheek menu (if you read Chinese - fear not they do of course have a menu in English!). We gathered that they have only opened in the last couple of years (?) We sampled the honey chilli chicken wings 蜜辣雞翼which were fresh and still steaming hot when served, and were crispy and super flavourful. The beef brisket rice牛腩飯was tender, and the tomato, egg and beef rice 港式茄蛋牛飯just tasted like how it is in Hong Kong. The best dish was the Peking sauce pork chop rice京汁豬扒飯 - the pork was lightly battered and fried and was juicy and succulent against a zingy sauce. We were rather full from the generous portions but managed to fit in a warm pineapple bun 菠蘿包，an egg tart 蛋撻and a pastel de nata (Portuguese tart) 葡撻。Again they were fresh and not too sweet but rich, eggy and creamy. We will have to go back to try the French toast (it looked huge!) The server was very friendly and attentive: giving us wet wipes when he spotted us enjoying our wings by hand, and asking if we want our water cold or hot (very Chinese!) They don’t charge a separate service charge as this has been factored into the prices already. For me this is one of the best Cantonese/Hong Kong food outlets in the UK and is far superior to those much more expensive/low value for money Cantonese restaurants of London. Highly recommended. We would definitely be returning for a taste of authentic HK food on our next Edinburgh trip.

I got rather confused when I first entered the restaurant and it was playing some Tencent show on the big TV - is that the restaurant's definition of Made in Hong Kong? The two stars are for the milk tea, which is actually decent. Other dishes are on the salty side and honestly lack of flavour.

Very delicious food! Highly recommended. Even my 20 month old toddler enjoys the braised beef dish with rice. Friendly and lovely staff too.

Terrible service! Placed an order and despite several confirmations it was on its way, 2 and a half hours later we still have no food and the restaurant is closed, so no way to contact. Didn't realise the name of the restaurant was literal and the food is actually made in Hong Kong. Would strongly advise all to stay away

A new but distinctly Hong Kong type of cafe with many old favourite from the lanes of Mongkok to the country cafes of the New Territories. Well worth a visit.

This restaurant advertises an express lunch of one course for £6.00, with several options listed, in a notice on the front window. We sat at a table and ordered lunch in good faith (no menus were offered). The food arrived. We noticed that the sauces were not cooked from scratch but thought that seemed fair enough at the price. We ate our food, which was acceptable, and asked for the bill, which was presented as £18.00. We queried it and were told that the notice was for takeaway meals. This was not specified on the notice. We think that the food is shockingly overpriced and that the proprietors are misrepresenting their menu.

Very friendly environment and funny staff with really nice food! The express menu is very reasonably priced, is a good portion size and very delicious. The same goes for the coffee and the carrot cake! Definitely would go again and would recommend!

Good basic Chinese eat house with extra friendly service and a reasonably large menu for such a small establishment. I gave you another star. You deserve it.

We discovered this newly revamped café a couple of weeks ago and have already been back for more! The food is absolutely delicious and authentic, with large portions, and the service is fast and friendly. The coffee and cakes are also lovely.

Was in Edinburgh in November 2017 for our 5th wedding anniversary as we had our honeymoon there and was really hungry after a days shopping so found this place only to be turned away as it was fully booked at 5:30pm but the place was clearly not busy and as there was only me and my wife it wasn't worthy of our money in case a group of people arrived. Explained we wouldn't be there for long or even wait for a table and have a drink and was refused so we left and when we did find somewhere to eat it was the best meal of our holiday. Would never visit this place again and would give it no stars if I could.

Excellent food staff are very good

I take away regularly from that place on weekends. The food is usually well worth the price (take-away is way cheaper than sit-in). The staff that usually takes our order is also extremely helpful with food recommendation, be it taste wise or nutritional wise.

This is the WORST Chinese I have ever had! Food was obviously re heated, felt pretty dodgy after eating some of it(I got a takeaway) & I had asked for mini spring rolls & got huge ones instead that practically only had bean sprouts in them ****AVOID****

Only Chinese restaurant we visited whilst in Edinburgh, but the food was very nice. The restaurant is unlicenced, so remember to take your own booze. Would recommend.

Having visited the Good Year restaurant pretty well every week this last year, I am rather surprised at the 2 previous reviews, as I have never experienced any problems whatsoever with the different dishes I have enjoyed! Tonight I tried something new: Roast duck with mushrooms = delicious! If you like a quite venue with unobtrusive but helpful service this is for you!

Okay where do I start, very little place, if romance is what your looking for look elsewhere, food was iffy, soup was very watery, best part was the fresh orange juice we were given was out of date on the bottle, been here but won't be back

I reviewed this restaurant a year ago and decided to return. The restaurant was as good as before and I really enjoyed my meal. I had Spicy Chicken Wings as a starter which were excellent. I , also had Special Curry with a portion of Beansprouts which was very good quality and taste. I really must go to the Good Year Restaurant more often. Top Marks again IanM

This restaurant has the perfect combination of fresh, well cooked, tasty food, a helpful owner and host in Kelvin Low, and the right atmosphere and decor for a cosy place to eat and chat. Easy to find - right down Causewayside towards Cameron Toll, just after Grange Loan on the right.

Cosy little place with friendly staff:) Enjoyed the perfectly cooked lemon chicken - the sauce was delightful, not too sweet/sour or gloopy like some other restaurants I have tried in the past. Duck spring rolls were also crispy and succulent and the kids enjoyed the plain noodles & beef fried rice. I also agree with the comments in the other reviews and will definitlely be recommending this place to my friends.
