Food is amazing and they offer lots of choices of ingredients. Seafood and meat are all you can eat. Definitely the best hotpot place in Edinburgh!!

I was rather surprised by the improvement of food quality in this restaurant.

we went there at lunch time, very limited food selection compare to dinner time, but the price is the same, the seafood tasted off, waitress was not particularly nice, ventilation not good as it's a basement restaurant with excessive amount of steam from hotpot cooking, do not recommend. If you have to go, I don’t recommend going at noon, because there are too few things but the price is the same as at night. The seafood has a strong smell of preservatives/formalin, and the water for soaking the crabs is turbid. I have gone there before. The overall quality of the ingredients at Laocheng Yiguo is much better. I tried the recipe today and it is far from recommended. The air circulation in the basement is not good.

If you want to eat inexpensive Chinese (I know it better than Korean) barbecue or hotpot in Edinburgh, this is the place for you. The basement specializes in hotpot, and there is also a barbecue on the ground floor. I treated myself to the latter. You can then grill happily for 2 hours, the selection is decent and the ingredients are good. I would have liked a little more explanation of the processes, but I was also able to learn the procedure from the almost exclusively Asian regular guests. For 25 pounds you're in. If your eyes are significantly bigger than your stomach, there's a penalty. Good this way. Overall everything was good, I would come back at any time.

Wer in Edinburgh gerne einmal preiswert chinese (ich kenne es eher als koreanisch) Barbecue oder Hotpot essen will, der ist hier richtig. Im Basement hat man sich auf Hotpot spezialisiert, im Erdgeschoss gibt es zusätzlich Barbecue. Letzteres habe ich mir gegönnt. 2 Stunden kann man dann munter vor sich hin grillen, dabei ist die Auswahl anständig und die Zutaten gut. Ein bisschen mehr hätte ich mir eine Erklärung der Abläufe gewünscht, ich konnte mir das Procedere jedoch auch von den fast ausschließlich asiatischen Stammgästen abschauen. Für 25 Pounds ist man dabei, wo die Augen deutlich größer als der Magen sind, setzt es eine Strafe. Gut so. Insgesamt alles gut, ich würde jederzeit wieder kommen.

Didn't even finish our 1st round due to poor quality. Very disappointed. The server only speaks Chinese but works hard.

All you can eat hot pot at reasonable prices

I went there after reading the reviews, so I wasn't really surprised, and it was actually cheap and felt like a hidden gem. . It feels like going to an Asian restaurant. I went there twice: Yakiniku on the first floor and Nabe in the basement. The staff doesn't seem to speak much English, and doesn't explain the menu etc. Do whatever you like lol. She's quite unfriendly, but she's prepared well so there's no problem! Also, I was worried because there was a review that said it had an upset stomach, but the meat was stored properly in the refrigerator (hotpot) and there were no problems at all, and my friend also had no problems. Let's cook it properly. The beef was tender, and for around £25 you get all-you-can-eat meat, seafood, and Asian vegetables! There's no service charge, and there are mysterious ingredients (hotpot) that make it fun. Quite satisfied. I will repeat! Honestly, when I made a reservation online, I was only able to choose between 5:30 and 8 o'clock due to rotating schedules, but when I actually went there, it was empty, so I called and maybe I could get it at 7 o'clock.I can't speak English. If only I had someone to talk to...

We went to have a meal but we had to leave because they only accept cash in hand. This strikes me a very dodgy and reeks of money laundering. I'm sure HMRC will be checking them out in no time at all.

Underground hotpot restaurant. Very good value authentic hotpot. £22pp for unlimited hotpot. They don’t take card, only cash or bank transfer. You can choose up to 4 different broths, we went for the chicken and hot and spicy broths which were good. There is an excellent selection of food which is self serve / buffet style. This was kept topped up often and the food was good quality and size. Razor clams, king prawns, squid, white fish, mussels, beef slices, lamb slices, dumplings, fish balls, tofu balls, spinach, bak choy, noodles, udon, oyster mushrooms, crab etc There is a station to make your own sauces to accompany. Good selection; coriander, Chinese vinegar, soy sauce, spring onions, sesame oil, sesame paste, fermented bean curd, chilli oil etc. Service is not prompt, they have to be flagged down to clear empty trays and order refill drinks. The broth top up could be more frequent. Soft drinks cost £3 and are unlimited refill.

The variety of food is amazing♥️ No dessert☹️ but thats OK♥️ you get the value of money for such a lot of food♥️ unfortunately when there are too many customers they usually look at you to hurry up eating so others can eat as well😜😂 but over all this place is a must to go and eat with Edinburgh weather☺️

Staff is helpful and friendly. Since its hot pot, in other words you need to cook yourself. Food quality is good and fresh. Good value as you can have unlimited food and there are quite many options. Its a bit underrated on the web. Overall, its good and we highly recommend it.

This restaurant is situated in the basement of Lian pu, the top part serves sushi and hotpot,BBQ and Chinese dishes. So you need to use the stairs to reach this restaurant, the lower part serves only hot pot and Korean BBQ. It's all self service apart from the drinks. You pick the broth from a menu , split pot or one . Then at the front is a wide selection of veg , seafood,meat, tofu , different types of noodles.Steamed red bean baos, steamed white rice, watermelon, tea or soy boiled eggs. And a sauce station to make dipping sauces for your meal. You have up two hours to eat. There is about 12 table/kiosk which sit four ppl. Our verdict. Found it lacking in selection of seafood, probably due to the season. There was mussels,crab, shelled shrimp and prawns.The clear chicken and tom yum broth was slightly lacking in seasoning. Only once we added crab and meat that it started adding more flavour. We arrived at 530pm with a booking and not long after the place was packed with Chinese students and a 2 Chinese families. The toilets modern and clean. It gets very hot and steamy in there so I recommend to wear a light layers. It's a good winter warmer kind of meal. The canned herbal tea my partner ordered was not cold so not as refreshing as it should be. I had the unlimited coke refill , which was fizzy and cold. Even though it was busy it was easily enough to grab someone's attention for a top up. The price is reasonable for all you can eat for two hours.

Very affordable and nice dishes

Absolutely lovely food. Not typical "Chinese style" and all the better for it. We only had time for a quick bite but found the sweet and sour chicken, and the spicy pork absolutely delicious. Wouldn't hesitate to return when next in Edinburgh

Very rare to find a hotpot and kbbq combo in Edi, so this was a great find! Fantastic staff, very helpful and attentive. Restaurant and bathrooms clean and updated. Food was plentiful and great selection. Had a great time here!

Used to visit here many times in the past 10 years and only went there fairly recently to see if it’s still good. Setting remains the same for the last 4-5 years but food menu has changed massively. Menu used to be extensive and had many authentic Chinese dishes that aren’t too generic which was why I like about Lian Pu. Now it’s becomes more generic and less options in the A la Carte menu for those that wants to try new authentic Chinese dishes. Note, this is a Cash Only place, don’t know why as other nearby restaurants all accept both cash and cards. Sanchuan restaurant is just round the corner from Lian Pu has a more extensive menu, so will try that and possibly have to change it to my go-to Chinese eatery in Edinburgh.

Lots of options to add to the broth, fast service. It might not be the cheapest deal but there's plenty of meats, seafood and vegetables, and even some desserts. Their garnish section is quite extended too. I'll definitely come back.

First time here, very good impression of the staff very polite and helpful. The atmosphere is nice and the music ambience was quite relaxing. The staff explained us how to have the best experience of the hotpot, all the seafood and more ingredients displayed on the shelves looked fresh. It’s one of the best experiences preparing your own food with the many options you have to choose between condiments, vegetables, seafood and much more. The best hot pot I have ever had in the UK. There are a variety of choices, fresh meat, seafoods, and even crab for unlimited amount. I stayed 3 days in Edinburgh and ate here for two days. LOL

We were going to another restaurant but were shocked to find another hot pot in Edinburgh, what a surprise Great staff with a nice smiling greeting 😁 then sat and very comfortable table. We knew what were doing so we just started. Great unlimited juice Food selection very good along with boiled rice which is unusual, also the sauce selection was good 👍 all very well lit up and clean. Nice selection of stocks too. I forgot cash so had to go to nearest hole in the wall no problem two min away, while my other half was chatting to the waitresses very friendly. We will be back 😄

Great hot pot with lots of soup options which isn’t too salty Meat and vegetables are all fresh. The sauce station is DIY which I really enjoy creating my own special sauce. 1 thing I don’t like is the overall cleanliness and the basement atmosphere with no window. It makes me feel cramped

Tried spicy lamb soup hotpot at a local place. Staff were nice, but very much self-service and authentic atmosphere. Seafood quality was ok. After a while, the lamb smell became overpowering. Would recommend chicken soup base next time.

Heard a lot about customers being sick after eating here. Tried once for myself and its fine. Tried hotpot and BBQ. It was not bad at all. Though really recommend cooking the raw meat with patient. The meatballs and some other ingredients take longer than usual to get fully cooked

Exceptional experience, we were made to feel welcome from the outset, a great selection of foods to be cooked all incredibly fresh. We ate for almost 3 hours and never felt rushed. Will be back.

Arrived for an early dinner and were first in the place. Asked for help ordering but waitress spoke no English. She showed us a message in Google translate saying the chef would provide a portion based on the people at the table. We were brought 2 plates of mystery meats, raw prawns and octopus which we were then cooking ourselves on the hot plate. Another plate had mushrooms and lettuce. No rice, no noodles. Beef (?) was ok but I found it really unappetising sitting at a small table surrounded by raw meat and fish. After trying something horribly chewy, I was done. How can you cook stuff when you don’t even know what it is?? Also treated to the binmen arriving outside so staff running though the place with black bags of rubbish. Unforgettable meal for all the wrong reasons.

They accept credit cards and although it was mostly Chinese eating we really enjoyed the new experience of a bbq. Very clean and felt like I was in china. Food delicious and would recommend.

Came here an hour before they close. Food was great but could have been better if there was rice. Didn’t know it was Cash only until we paid but staff was kind enough to wait for us as we get some cash. Great experience overall. We’ll definitely be back!

I phoned up to ask if there was space for hot pot/BBQ that evening and they said they would check and call me back. I never received a call back and arrived there in person 30 minutes after I called. Frankly this was unprofessional. Most restaurants require booking to avoid over crowding but this was not the case here. Went downstairs for the hot pot and BBQ area and they did have room. £20.99 for both hot pot and BBQ with unlimited ingredients. Meats, vegetables, noodles, seafood, tofu etc out on display for customers to choose themselves. Sauces station for customers to help themselves too. Good value for money as there is a nice range to choose from, and definitely very filling! Can’t fault the food but the extraction fan system is not strong so expect to leave smelling of BBQ and food smells. A huge downside was the lack of COVID precautions. There is no track and trace in place here. We entered and were shown immediately to a table which sat us behind another booth of diners, and adjacent to a couple at another booth. Though the actual seating created a makeshift barrier between diners, the distance was less than 1m. There were no plastic guards in place nor guidance on mask wearing. Staff were wearing masks but not gloves when handling food. As diners move around the restaurant to get their own ingredients or sauces and to use the bathroom, there is no enforcement to wear a mask. This is a standard for all eateries apart from when sitting at the table, and has been in place prior to the closest lock down. There were no signs to say masks must be worn at all inside and the staff did not mention at all. All customers share the same tongs/ladles to get ingredients with no cleaning in between usage. Customers are not asked to use hand sanitiser on entry. There is no social distancing or one way system to the food area, with crowding happening instead. The staff seemed to reside mainly at the bar area near the entrance, with the main dining area unmanned most of the time. This was understandable as the food is ‘help yourself’ however when people wanted drinks or other requests it was hard to get their attention. The staff spoke mostly Mandarin with a little understanding of English. This is maybe why there was confusion with the phone conversation I had with them originally. When we were initially seated there was little explanation of the menu. We had eaten hot pot and BBQ before so were familiar with the process, but others might not be. The staff seemed indifferent to customers and returned to their posts hidden away as soon as possible. The payment system is cash only. This was not clear on arrival and we only found out after we went to the counter to pay. The other option is to bank transfer directly to the owner (I think). There are details for account number etc on a small placard but this doesn’t seem like the safest way to pay for something. When we asked the waiter about the bank transfer details and if the payment went through, he said he didn’t know because it wasn’t his account. With the current pandemic the standard is to pay using contactless. Lian Pu could do with a huge update to meet current pandemic standards. While the food is good, the risk it puts its customers at is not worth the price. Tables need to be closed off for social distancing, one way system put into place, no shared utensils with other diners, face mask enforcement, track and trace procedure, better hygiene all around, card machine and better ventilation.

We've been here before for the Korean barbecue (and loved it) but this time we went for the hotpot. Great selection of things to include in your hotpot - one of our choices was prawns and they were huge! We really enjoyed the experience (it's great fun putting your food in to cook and then trying to remember what was yours and then find it in the pot!). The prices were very reasonable and we will definitely be back.

We ordered several dishes. They were so so. Fried rice with chicken, beef noodles and a chicken rice bowl. My people liked the Japanese dumplings. I enjoyed my corn soup.

We order the 'Hanging Hot Pot' with Szechuan 四川 麻辣 Flavour. It is so nice and tasty. Just one dish and enough for 2 pers3. Yummy. Price is very reasonable and cosy atmosphere. Highly recommended.

I saw this place when walking in old town and i have to say it is the best oriental food i have tried so far in Edinburgh, just wow!

중식 훠궈를 맛볼 수 있는 곳으로중국에서 오랜 기간 체류했던 동반자 의견으로는본토의 향기가 있다고 함기본적으로 HOT POT은 2시간 기준 18파운드 가량의 뷔페이나 고기나 훠궈에 넣는 재료는 첫 주문시에는 그림에 메뉴에 표시해서 주문하면 되고 그 이후에는 말로 주문해야 한다.음식은 나름대로 기본 이상이었으나별점 한개를 뺀 이유는현금과 중국 간편페이로만 결제가 가능하며직원들과 중국어로만 대화가 가능해서동반자 없이는 주문이 어려웠기 때문하지만 두세번 이상 방문하면어렵지 않게 주문 가능할 것으로 보임

Tropecé con esta joya escondida por accidente. Auténtica comida china con una decoración elegante a precios de ganga. La elección fue excelente pero servicialmente tenía fotos de muchas de las opciones para facilitar las cosas. Tuve beens verdes con carne de cerdo picada con arroz y mi esposo eligió fideos de huevo con mariscos. Con 1 cerveza y un té de jazmín llegó a menos de 23. Delicioso. Está más ocupado entre 6 y 7, pero tenemos una mesa entonces. También te quitan, pero tú recoges. En la planta baja hay una barbacoa todo lo que quieras. No intenté eso.

Mientras no sea un gran fanático de la cocina asiática, ¡este lugar es increíble! Usted puede preparar su propia comida, tuvimos su propia parrilla. Podríamos ver a otras personas cocinando su propia sopa. El ambiente es muy agradable, pudimos ver a muchos clientes chinos, lo que también me hizo creer que es un lugar tradicional con comida china adecuada. Definitivamente voy a volver allí. No gastamos mucho dinero, pero comimos mucho y todo estaba delicioso.

Estoy visitando este restaurante desde 2014, y todas mis visitas fueron las mismas: increíbles y super satisfactorias.

Chodziliśmy do tej restauracji od 4 lat. Zawsze wychodziliśmy zadowoleni. Pyszne jedzenie, aż humor poprawiało. A dzisiaj poszliśmy na urodzinowy obiad i smutek. Żeberka bbq które zawsze były obłędne. Dostaliśmy twarde , gumowe i zostały podane w panierce z sosem gravy. Porcje zostały pomniejszone o połowe. A w każdym daniu brakowało przypraw. Daleko miały te dania do kuchni azjatyckiej. Szkoda była to nasza najlepsza restauracja ale po dzisiejszej wizycie już tam nie wrócimy.

Reservamos una mesa para 12 y nos dijeron durante la reserva que teníamos que dividirnos en dos tabletas, lo cual estaba bien, e incluso confirmamos nuestra reserva 1 semana antes del almuerzo, pero cuando llegamos nos dijeron que no había tal reserva.

Abbiamo trovato questo localino grazie alle recensioni ed abbiamo deciso di provarlo a pranzo. Gran parte dei clienti erano asiatici, quindi probabilmente (non sono mai stata in cina) rispecchia la cucina tradizionale. I prezzi sono un po' elevati ma i piatti sono abbondanti. Abbiamo preso degli udon, dei noodles e una porzione di ravioli. L'arredamento è davvero bello, piccolino ma accogliente. La cucina è velocissima, ottimo se si ha poco tempo. L'aqua è gratuita, la si puó prendere accanto al bancone da delle brocche. Purtroppo noi la sera stassa ci siamo sentiti male ma comunque ve lo consigliamo, magari i nostri stomaci erano provati da giorni e giorni di haggies.

I like to shop in the area and so have walked past this place hundreds of times. It has an upstairs area - not visited - and also a downstairs area where I went today. The downstairs place is described as Hot Pot and BBQ and is also "all you can eat" too. I was intrigued so took a walk down the steep stairs that are often a feature of a lower ground Edinburgh location. Went in and was taken to a table. The tables have cooking rings and a hot plate area built into each table. OK. So we were to cook the food ourselves. OK, that's not what I expected but happy to try nonetheless. The service was superb.The staff asked us if we'd been there before, we said, "no", They took over and gave us great guidance on how everything worked. It was fun and the staff were very keen to ensure we had a great experience. We chose top of the shop - both BBQ and Hot Pot - which was good to do since it gave us all the experiences together. We chose meats and vegetables and ramen broth styles and were soon cooking our dishes along with the extra sauces and other herbs and spices available to all as part of the buffet cooking experience. We were given helpful support to ensure we didn't undercook anything and also gave us tips on particular choices too. Never intrusive but genuinely useful and helpful. If you know something of asian cooking its great to come here to indulge. However its a bit more active than simply being passively served from a menu. You have to think about what you want to eat and then select the ingredients and cook and serve it. I was part of a party of three people and wondered if I should ask to have my bill lowered since I was doing most of the cooking, All good though. Would come here again but would eat and cook a bit slower I think. More of a conversational meal would be better with more talking and less cooking. The food was good, the flavours were great and of course if you can cook then you'll make better ingredient decisions than if you can't cook. I'll come here again but when I have an occasion to celebrate since there's a bit of effort needed to feed yourself and your fellow diners in your party.

Visitamos, familia de cuatro, en un ajetreado sábado el sábado durante los festivales. Tardó un poco en llegar la comida (de una manera un tanto al azar, donde algunos platos principales llegaron mientras otros terminaban), aunque valió la pena la espera. Comida deliciosa y abundante. Volvería la próxima vez que esté en Edimburgo.

Después de un buen amigo de mi me llevó allí estaba enganchado. Ahora es una ocurrencia mensual para mí y unos amigos sólo para cosas nuestras caras y ponerse al día.

Tuvimos una gran comida en este restaurante, todos hemos probado algo diferente y disfrutamos mirando otros clientes las comidas. Una especie señores en la mesa de al lado me explicó que teníamos que pedir y pagar (sólo en efectivo) en el bar. Estaba muy concurrido y animado. Disfrutamos tratando la gran variedad de bebidas.

La comida es buenísima, ninguno de los azucarados, salados, cosas muchas para llevar chino sirven gms, pero la comida que sabe como cocinar. El restaurante atrae una multitud de clientes, principalmente china, tuvimos que esperar un rato para un escaño (vale la pena).

Este lugar estaba lleno de gente de china, que siempre es una buena señal. Tuvimos el Bento Box, que fue una estupenda relación calidad-precio y refractario, pero nos hubiera gustado haber sido más aventurero cuando vimos lo que otros tenían. Cuando pedimos vino, la chica parecía nervioso, luego a la izquierda el edificio y volvió agarrar una botella caliente de blanco que presentó con copas de vino llenas de hielo - divertidísimo! 55-60 euros ella comprado en una tienda local. Personal amable y grandes porciones, volveremos!

现在爱丁堡是忙季，完全理解。可是男服务生随意更改菜单，说没有套餐？之前问另外一个女服务生明明说有。最糟糕的是我点的宫保鸡丁最后给我的是咕唠鸡？？？？不会再去了，再见脸谱！ The waiter there is awful. Not helpful and different waiters give different answers. I know it is busy time, but they give me a completely wrong dish from what I ordered. Never gonna come again!

Bajamos a la sección de hotpot/barbacoa, completamente abstraído Lian Pu que había un restaurante chino convencional a nivel de la calle. En verdad que habría preferido a la carta, pero en el caso de que el hotpot era genial. El personal era muy servicial y siempre generosas porciones de comida que cocinamos en el último hervidor mesa en nuestro elegido 'Tom yum goong". Las gambas en particular estaban deliciosos. Me quedé muy impresionado de que el restaurante se aceptan Alipay y para el pago que estaba WeChat conveniente para nosotros, ya que actualmente viven y trabajan en China. Así que el camarero convertido nuestra factura en yuan y escaneadas y pagado.

Fuimos con un bebé después de leer las críticas lo fantástico que es. Buen punto: tenía una trona, uno malo pasamos fregado.

Visiting Edinburgh for a concert and wanted somewhere close to the venue. Picked this restaurant based on reviews.

I ordered a chicken noodle soup which was incredibly tasteless and disappointing. This might have been a bad choice of dish on my part as the restaurant was packed with asian people, usually a good sign. Though I did try my friends dishes too and can't say I was impressed with any of them either.

This place answers all your cravings for Asian food. Perfectly cook, superb flavour, big portions, and good prices.

I fully recommend this place. Fast, cheap and very tasty food. Very good place for a fast lunch with friends.

5stars in term of value and taste... a hidden gem of Chinese restsursnt, with generous portion, good food... Hard to find such value elsewhere..student friendly, and close to Edinburgh Uni..

Truly and tasty Chinese food, lots of Chinese people eating here - is a big proof of that. Low prices, big plates, tastes of China- everything I like. I would like to say big thank you to this restaurant- enjoyable.

First time trying Lian Pu's Hot Pot. I have to say they have a nice selection of food you can choose from but in general its pretty much the same as any other Hot Pot places. They did forget to bring out a couple of stuff we had asked for. Other than that everything was really good. Our waitress was also very pleasant and polite. So overall it was very good but not excellent.

We had hotpot and BBQ for dinner here - the selection was great - its quite a small restaurant and gets very busy, so service was a little slower than i would expect but we got there. Food was fresh and its plentiful - although there were times where we ordered certain types - they didnt bring it out and didnt explain why - which is abit frustrating.
