As a customer, my husband and I went there for dinner. It was a Saturday, so perhaps that’s why the restaurant was quite busy. Just as we were about to enter, we received a warm welcome, which we really appreciated. The food was fresh, flavourful, and offered in a wide variety, catering to both traditional and modern tastes.The service was impressive-staff were polite, attentive, and quick to respond to any request, which made the overall dining experience even more enjoyable.We enjoyed a variety of dishes all under one roof. Then we moved on to the dessert section, The dessert section was a highlight, offering a tempting range of cakes that were rich in flavour and beautifuly displayed, along with different flavors of ice cream, which we thoroughly enjoyed and making it a fun and tasty way to end the meal. If you’re nearby, please don’t forget to visit at least once. So, there’s no need to go elsewhere—for all kinds of food under one roof, it’s “Mr. Basrai’s World Cuisines”.

Plenty of choice, staff helpful but also leave you in peace. Free parking also available. Try the counters for fresh burgers and grill!

There is a huge selection of foods from all over the world to choose from. My family could not decide on the cuisine for the evening; my daughter wanted sushi, my wife wanted Italian, and I wanted Scottish as we were visiting from the United States. Although there is not a huge variety of every type of cuisine, there were several different types of sushi, the lasagna and the other Italian dishes were as good as most Italian restaurants serve, and there were several Scottish dishes to try. Since I have never had official Scottish cuisine, I can’t really say what I had was authentic, however, the flavors and textures were very appealing. I also tried a bite or two of almost all other dishes available on the buffet. Besides me, my family does not tolerate spicy foods well, so I was able to try several Indian and Asian dishes that I have not been able to try before. They were all very flavorful and it seems care has been taken in preparing them to be authentic. The made to order stations also were great. The grilled lamb and steak was cooked perfectly and flavored well. The hibachi (it was called a different term in the restaurant) had a good selection and the dishes were well prepared. The deserts were a bit of a let-down but a few of them were good. The flavor of the walnut brownies was good but they were very dense. The top of the creme brûlée was chewy instead of crisp crystallized sugar. The “cheesecakes” were more whipped cream in texture than cheesecake but the flavors were good. None of the desserts were bad; they just weren’t as good as the other foods we experienced. For the price, we were very happy with our meal. Until improvements are made on the desserts, I would recommend skipping them and getting one elsewhere.

We went to Mr Basrai’s World Cuisines in Edinburgh for our anniversary and had a good time! There’s a huge variety of dishes, with most options inspired by South East Asian and Indian subcontinent cuisine. The food was fresh, tasty, and great value for money. One of the highlights was the live cooking counters. We loved the noodle bar where you can pick your ingredients and watch the chef stir-fry it fresh. The dosa station was also a treat—crispy dosas made on the spot and served with delicious chutneys and sambar. The chargrill counter offered everything from peri-peri chicken to prawns and lamb chops, all grilled to order with amazing smoky flavor. The staff were friendly and the atmosphere was relaxed, making it a perfect night out. Highly recommend for anyone who enjoys variety and freshly made food!

The restaurant was a great place to dine, conveniently located on the fourth floor above the car park. The food selection was impressive, offering a variety of options, and the quality was excellent. The table service was efficient, with staff maintaining a clean and well-attended dining area while ensuring guests' needs were met promptly. The only downside was that the men's restroom was still under construction. While the urinals were available, the stalls were not yet completed. Overall, the experience was highly positive, with excellent food and attentive service.

I and my mom had a nice meal. The food was piping hot and they had a lot on display for a Saturday. Would definitely be back again

Definitivamente volvería atrás tenían una muy buena elección de platos de chinos , indios , mexicanos por nombrar algunos para que haya algo para satisfacer los gustos de todos . Sinceramente puedo decir que todo lo que probamos sabía encantador, el personal era muy agradable también y en realidad dio tiempo a terminar lo que estabas comiendo antes de venir a limpiar los platos no como algunos otros buffets lugar

The atmosphere was brilliant, the service is quick and friendly. The quality is what you expect for a buffet. Once you find the food you like you'll go for it.

Given the wide selection of world cuisine on offer, I thoroughly enjoyed trying lots of different dishes at a good price. The service was very good, whereby the staff were extremely pleasant and helpful. Additionally, there is free parking, once you register your vehicle's registration. Overall, I can certainly recommend this eatery to all.

Excellent service, great food, good price

My friends and I had the most amazing dinner experience yesterday. They have a wide variety of dishes with a wide range of flavours and textures. For the most part, Dhvani provided outstanding customer service. She greeted us with a lovely smile, which she kept throughout supper. Her service made my dinner complete.

If you’re looking for a place with multiple cuisines, this is the spot to visit! The live counters are the highlight, and the food was hot, tasty, and full of variety. I couldn’t try everything in one visit, but what I did have was delicious. The staff was friendly and attentive. Definitely planning to visit again

Awesome, huge variety of choices from Pizzas, pasta, veg, non veg, soups, snacks, sweets, Ice creams, Indian street food, noodles, dosas, chats, curries, Dal, biryani, sea food the list is endless at a very reasonable price. Such a Buffet at £16 is just unbelievable. It's a must try for both vegetarians and non vegetarians as well. Very hospitable staff and chefs.

Not nice food . Lots of it is just frozen food . Or cooked chicken and mixed with sauce . Food looks like was there for few hours. What was quite shocking was price for my 11 years daughter it's same as adult . She will never eat that much food for £24.99 I paid for 2 adults and 2 kids £112 !! For not nice food at all . Definitely not going back

Mr Basrai is, for me, consistently the worst Chinese / World style buffet in Edinburgh. The food is quite limited, often looking like it has been sitting for ages or popular dishes only slowly replenished. It can also feel a little dirty, like the staff arent attentive enough. China Red is much better and has a stronger range of authentic Chinese dishes.

Amazing spread of Indian ,Italian and Chinese cuisine. Prices are reasonable and you may get 1.30 mins time to eat as much as you can eat. Desserts are also amazing. Love their chats , Pani Puri. Please don't expect paneer items here as you also have plenty of vegetarian options.

Basrai is our favorite place without any confusion. This place is like a family to us. as been dining there over last 6 years. My little one literally brought up here. From owner, management, chef staffs all are lovely and make us feel very homely and comfortable. Highly recommended!

Got food poisoning from the butter chicken

Good variety of choice with this price range, personally I like: salad bar (beetroot, apple, olives etc.), the curry lamb, and a variety of small portion cakes, not too sweet but of different taste and texture. Ice cream was not of my taste. In general, very good. (Regularly came here, recently in 2025Q1, found the curry lamb improved, now tender and better taste; also my another fav. here is the greek salad, very good).

Had dinner with some friends. A big disappointment! Low quality food, mostly not fresh, or dried out meat/chicken. The floor near the dessert section was sticky because of the melted chocolate. A lot of tiny flies on the sweets and cakes. Generally low hygiene! Wouldn't recommend.

we love indian food. been here ~8x in last year for Lunch. Food can be more authentic, eg the curries like lamb rogan josh. firstly the lamb bit tough, could marinate overnight then cook, lack of indian spices like garam masala, cumin. just put in more love in the cooking and it will be more flavourful. the japanese selection, could have sashimi, sushis, only ever has california rolls. family and friends decided to eat at local indian, as food is on average side just now. put more effort in, and loyal customers will roll in. Had dinner first time, it is nicer than lunch in that there are more varieties, incl fresh salmon, octopus, king prawns, chicken on the bone curry, roast beef, pork, haggis :) good they have brocolli, cauliflower at the noodle live station where its loved by my son and myself. nice they have student discounts for poor postgrads!

Really disappointed we went for a New Year’s Eve meal and we wasn’t happy with the luke warm food, the food was tasteless not that much choice to pick from, the steak was chewy and inedible. For nearly £21 per person it was definitely not worth it. The desserts all tasted the same and wasn’t very pleasant. I was under the impression they were similar to Cosmo buffet but no where near in comparison. I would not recommend.

Staff are lovely and the place was clean and welcoming which is always a very good start. We went for Xmas dinner and there were Xmas crackers waiting for us at the table which I found so thoughtful. The food was fantastic. The quantity was massive and there were so many options and some from other cuisines too. Very well cooked food and you definitely have to try cardamon ice cream kesar pista and malai ! Chefs kiss

The restaurant had a large selection of food with good varieties. Live Dosa, Noodles and Pizza counter. Good ambience with city views. Overall, a great place to dine in with family and friends.

Although the staff were lovely, the food was well below standard. The sauce in every curry was watered down (must be to stretch as much as possible) that it had more water than sauce and the chicken was so tough and looked like it had been left out a while. I couldnt eat any protein and had to fill up on side dishes. I don't think it's justifiable to be charging nearly £25 a head for food that isn't fresh.

Friendly staff. No queuing at buffet. Surprisingly good food - our party included a sushi chef who was impressed by the sushi and 2 Thai people who were very impressed by the quality of the few Thai dishes on offer and who enjoyed many other options. Provided a small cake for the birthday guest free of charge.

Ate here, and discovered numerous mouse droppings - unfortunately after we'd eaten and paid. We have requested a refund, but have heard nothing. Mouse droppings were reported to the council and we received a reply to say they had done an inspection & also found evidence of a mouse infestation. We have been informed that remedial action was taken. The staff were all very friendly and nice about it, but obviously there's only so much you can do when faced with 30 mouse poos next to your table.

I really like the variety they offer in the lunch buffet for the price you pay. Quite a lot to chose. Only downside I felt is that some items didn’t seem like fresh. I loved the dosa, malai and pista ice cream.

First time at Mr Basrai’s and have to say it was great. We all enjoyed the very wide variety of food. There is definitely something for everyone and very family friendly. The staff were amazing, considering how busy it can get. Very attentive and service with a smile. We’ll be back to try other dishes that wouldn’t fit in our full stomachs

The place was clean and nice ! Dosa and the Noodle section was a star ⭐ Dhwani our server was absolutely amazing, enthusiastic and happy to help and assist whenever we needed help !! Pasta counter was a little disappointed with as I asked for a pasta a the chef was lazy to make so he said 10min to wait and then never got back to me ! So tha manger himself brought on my table which was really appreciated!! Our server Dhwani was really hospitalble and nice !!!

AVOID AT ALL COSTS! Food was nowhere near up to standards. Not to mention they close the buffet at 3pm. Food was stale flavourless and overall horrible experianxe. “World food” only had Indian and Chinese wasn’t even Chinese. Poor food quality will not visit and advise you to stay away from this.

Welcomed as approached restaurant staff very helpful and checked for allergies, etc. There was plenty of selection and some new dishes and flavours not seen before and was delicious. Salad bar was tasty and fresh. Great value for money and massive drink selection. Thank you for everyone's hard work !

Food was cold plenty of empty dishes just left do dry. Not much taste on some of them.boy doing my mexican food acted like hes there as punishment. So many places were dirty. If main floor is dirty u can only imagine how bad kitchen is...waitress was really nice to me

We had a pleasant evening at Mr. Basarai Restaurant, with a nice ambiance and decent food. Some dishes stood out, but overall, the quality didn’t quite match the prices. While it’s worth trying once or twice, it’s not necessarily a place we’d consider a go-to restaurant for regular visits.

There are many recipes offered but unfortunately most of them are very bland. For sushi, the seasoning of the rice is correct but the rice is much too compact, a real shame. Good intention but poor execution. I tried a bit of everything, except Italian food, but my partner ate pizza, he found it good. In terms of welcome and service, nothing to say, the waitress was very nice and smiling.

Went here on the 29/10/24 to celebrate my granddaughter's graduation but was not that impressed. A lot of the food was not hot just warm even the water we had was not very cold. The sweets were fine so all in all not the best experience.

I don’t even want to give a star. AVOID AVOID AVOID !!!!!!! Rude manager, rubbish food. Instantly felt sick, and had to throw up. Customers, whom may be regulars, colleagues, or even family/friends, were standing about talking to the manager, eating their food up and down the place, coughing and sneezing, and chatting away to their group, like it was a big friendly gathering. This meant that we would have to wait until they decided to move, as they didn’t listen when asking to be excused, and meant longer to get out TASTELESS FOOD. AVOID !!!!! I WANT MY MONEY BACK.

Great everyone was so attentive and super nice. The staff helped us all through the meal cleaning and asking how it was. So nice and kind it was very nice and relaxed.

There is so much to choose from different cuisines. We really enjoyed freshly made doshas with the accompaniments. Probably best to decide which cuisine you want. We didn’t manage a dessert but will do next time. The staff were welcoming and helpful too.

Had a lovely time celebrating my wife's 40th birthday. We were served by Dhvani who was so lovely and helpful. She looked after us very well ! We had our kids with us and they enjoyed their meal. Was great they ate for free then slept while we enjoyed our meal!!
