Sirous in Camden

I’m shocked to discover that this place has been open on my doorstep for a quarter of a century and I’ve only just discovered it. The important bit: you won’t find a better steak at a better price. Or a better steak full stop. Hamid and Sirous (manager and proprietor) can advise you what to order. I’ve forgotten our starters (they were good) because the steak is the story. The côte de boeuf we shared was cooked to perfection and large enough to satisfy three healthy appetites coming as it did with salad and fries. Another thing: the wine list. No wine was over £35. The excellent Côtes du Rhône that we had was only £30, a price that justified a second bottle. The dessert menu is limited but that doesn’t matter as diners are unlikely to have any appetite left after the steak. Service was superb. An excellent experience in every way.

Sirous is a West Hampstead institution for good reason and that's because of its consistent quality and welcoming environment over 25 years. You will find Sirous himself keeping an eye on the quality of the dishes coming out of the kitchen and like all the staff at this restaurant, you will get friendly and efficient service. We were 3 friends eating together and it was the first time visit for our Syrian friend. She absolutely loved the authentic Persian cuisine and we absolutely loved the fantastic grilled meat dishes and delicately flavoured rice side dishes. The lamb cutlets were to die for; juicy, succulent, very little fat and extremely tasty. The chef happily cooked them a bit pink for me, which is just how I like them. I have paid 3 times as much for lamb cutlets in fancy west End restaurants that weren't cooked half this well. The salad was fresh and a perfect accompaniment and there's also a selection of yummy meze dishes too. This is exactly the sort of friendly and dedicated local business that should be supported by residents, as we're lucky to have it.

We were served a three course lunch with cocktails which was excellent and generous portions. We eat at Sirous regularly and are made to feel like friends of the owner. The Ladies is the cleanest I have seen at any local restaurant.

When you see an empty restaurant ask yourself why? I ordered the meals and waited for the free bread, only to find you have to pay for it unlike most restaurants in London, add to that No salad garnish with the mains, plus No free Turkish delight or Baklava with the bill, and now for the bad news, My wife ordered "Ghorme sabzi polo" after one bite she push it away, I tried it (and I can eat almost anything) it was awful beyond words, the cost of the meals (high prices) and the poor atmosphere, make this a MUST NOT DINE location,

This was without question the worst meal I have ever had. The bread was a couple of days old and had been microwaved to give it freshness, but within secs it was rock solid again. The King prawns that were no more than shrimps and were that awful grey with a watery garlic oil that I actually had to spit out, and I have never had whitebait of such poor quality. Saying that the service was good and the wine drinkable! I feel like I choose badly, and am sure there are some nice things on the menu, but we just lucked out. It was so bad that we didn't even bother complaining as my daughter and I were just laughing so much. Good luck

I had ordered kebab skewers and it was sensational. The meat was made from baby lamb which was so fresh, soft and without adding any additional ingredients to it. I was so impressed I recommend this place to anyone who fancy’s any other dishes as well

In spite of having booked and called in earlier to re-confirm the booking, they were not ready for us and we had to wait around while there was a lot of shuffling chairs and tables around to accommodate the 8 of us! The food was average, even disappointing to several of our guests, not vegetarian friendly as advertised. Several customers exiting the place left the door wide open, leaving diners to get up and close it, while management/staff just stood around chatting, completely uninterested. We felt that charging for bread was very petty when most restaurants include it with their starters of hummous,tzaziki etc, We felt that we were somewhat overcharged but couldn't prove it as we were not given a proper itemised bill, a little till slip of the final amount doesn't really count! Wouldn't recommend the place unless everywhere else in the area was full up.

Eight of us - one a veggie - went here for dinner, There were a delicious selection of starters, including a lot of Veggie options, huge delicious steaks and the Persian dishes were full of flavour (but not Chilli hot at all, as is the Persian way). Very reasonable alcohol prices, also very attentive, excellent service. All located in a lively part of West Hampstead. Highly recommended.

Fancied a T bone steak, what came was a chop, only meat 1 side of the long chop bone, definitely not a T bone, more scary was the chef didn't seem to know what a T bone is, Despite that I ate the chop as was well cooked and tasted good We ordered a sharing platter for starters but were told we could only have the cheese as the meat was " gone off"the experience didn't't live up to expectations

The Persian food was excellent, the service was friendly and helpful. The restaurant and location were also enjoyable. All round a very pleasant Saturday lunch on a sunny day. An unexpected treat. We will definitely go again

discovered this restaurant a couple of months back and its a little gem. Cosy and welcoming surroundings, great for unwinding with friends, family and couples over good food, drinks and service. Most hospitable hosts- professional and attentive, ensuring everything is served to your liking and on time. Food is delicious, blend of a quality steak house and delicately spiced Persian dishes- such a great combination. all in all a good find.

We wanted a steak dinner but also something different. They had run out of filet, so we took a T bone and it was a great choice, quite a lot for one person, just eat less chips!

I should have realised when I saw that only one table inside was occupied yesterday evening and 2 separate tables outside with 2 at each that only ordered beer. Outside on the top ine of a menu placard was 'stuffed vine leaves'. I like dolmades (as known) so ordered them for takeaway asking for then NOT TO BE HEATED as usually served cool.. One would have expected them to fresh and readily available as a special.2nd mistake. 20 minutes later still the one only table which had drinks only, I was handed a bag with a sealed polystyrene carton and exuding heat. 20 mins later after walking home there was still heat and same when I opened the carton. It was blatantly obvious they had been microwaved from the freezer. and NOT FRESH. in the carton were, golf bell sized rounds and a hard dark brown outer with dark dry stale rice and a hefty addition of middle eastern spices. Inedible and disgusting. Not fit for consumption. There was only the one person working and he was wearing a stained grubby T-shirt. He needs to check a recipe for genuine Dolmades. They should be wrapped in FRESH green vine leaves with a herb (mint or similar) fresh rice and rolled into sausage shapes rolls and boiled until TENDER - not solid, dark brown dried out vine leaves (if that was they were, though impossible to tell. This establishment needs a visit from an inspector to check the kitchen, its contents and hygiene.. r

This is my go- to place for a meal, situated on the trendy and vibrant West Hampstead High Street. The menu offers a mouthwatering selection of starters, Persian specialist mains, great steak options and various world cuisine alternatives. Chicken dishes like Chelo Jooje Kebab and Baghali Polo which is a Persian specialty rice served with broad bean and dill beside Sea Bass are really good. For me the Persian omelette is a special mention- an amazing dish to start your day with, which you can dive into with piping hot ciabatta. It’s the place for you if you like traditional food with a big range of texture and flavor. The drinks menu is robust whether you want to enjoy your classic red- to - white wine, favourite coctails or if you want to just go with something hot. Camden Hells, Camden Pale Ale and Pravha are on tap. This is a family- run restaurant; and it is a good match for family gatherings. The owner is warm and thoughtful, and he will check on the guests to ensure their experience is enjoyable. The staff is attentive and prompt. I see a lot of families enjoy a weekend meal together, with added ease for young children as they have high chairs that help. On many occasions there are social gatherings, pre- game meals and drinks on big match days. It is also suited for casual dining or an intimate couple’s dinner. The restaurant has many regulars who visit almost on a daily basis. They welcome pets with dedicated pet- friendly tables inside. Indoors is a mix of thematic handmade artwork, handwritten signs and prints. You can sigh- off the day as you relax on comfy chester sofas with your favourite drink in hand, with cozy lighting throughout. Their tables in front of the restaurant on the street get an amazing amount of sun on bright days; so much so that I’ve seen people almost sunbathing while enjoying a refreshing pint on the side- that is also when they realize the restaurant is very close to West End Green park, which offers bountiful, relaxing green views in an urban backdrop. It’s important to remember that no business and certainly no restaurant is flawless and every establishment has bad days; slight delays and hiccups on very busy days are normal. The restaurant is located in a busy and narrow street; so parking could be challenging. All of these do not change the fact that you will have a great time here, and I would definitely recommend it as a nice place to go with friends, family and partner. Do try their steaks !

Delicious food! We had the Mixed Persian Kebab and the meat was very juicy and tasty. We also had the pleasure to meet Sirous himself, who was very welcoming and kind! Definitely recommend the place!

The owner of the restaurant has a passion for his homeland food and I tell you…it was one of the most delicious things I have ever eaten! We went to study there during lunch break and we had an amazing time. Food quality and price is just perfect! Totally coming back, Mr. Sirous is the kindest!!!

- We ordered the makhloot - The rice was microwaved and cold - The kebab had too much onion and no juice and no flavour just tasted like basic meat - Chicken was extremely bland and not marinated as it should - portion was extremely small - Expensive when you compare it to Iranian restaurants in London - bread was stale and reheated on the grill - Wouldn’t recommend going her for the food as I don’t think it’s there specialty as you could go to the best Iranian restaurants in London and it would be cheaper and more food - quite unprofessional when someone is begging you to write a review at the end of your meal so here is my review and just an honest one extremely disappointed

We live in the area and decided to try this steak house for a change. As we arrived we weren’t acknowledged for a good 25 minutes. We had to give them a sign before they finally took care of us. I have visited West hampstead over a number of years and am impressed by how the area is progressing and this restaurant is an amazing addition to the area its a breath of fresh air to find a nice affordable restaurant for excellent quality food and wine lovely relaxing atmosphere and great service I chose a burger with fries very tasty freshly cooked and probably the best burger I've eaten in a long time

I have visited the restaurant quite a view times which in itself indicates I had good experiences. Sausages, Steak and seabass were absolutely fabulous. Staff are friendly, knowledgable and courteous. Atmosphere is warm and ambience is superb. strongly recommended!

The staff weren't great which was evident when our food appeared...."2 rib eye steaks". We'd ordered a rib-eye and a rump. "Yes, one is a rump". No, sorry, not acceptable to charge your mind on what you have in your hand. Food average. Drinks average. Not sure it's worth a second visit.

We had lunch in the Sirous and the service was fantastic the staff were very relaxed and friendly, which made us feel at home. I will certainly be going back there for more.

Our dinner was really great. Steaks were tender, the desserts lovely. We had churros with chocolate, you need to try. And the ladies let us enjoy a wonderful service.

Fantastic place. I live in Scotland and whenever I travel down to London for work I Always try and pay a visit to Sirous. I have sampled breakfast dinner and often just come in for starters and a few drinks.The grilled halloumi and avocado is great and I recently tried the octopus I think this could be a favourite of mine. The stakes are perfect and the house burger with bacon cheese and avocado it’s always a mouthwatering experience for me. I think I have now tried every breakfast in West Hamstead High Street and this is just a cut above the rest. You can really tell that the ingredients and the produce that is used is fresh and of good quality.It’s so nice to be able to have dinner at the table and then relax on one of the comfortable sofas with an after dinner drink or you can just have dinner and drinks at the sofas and really chill out. The service is perfect and the staff are really friendly just what one needs after a hard day at work. I would recommend this wholeheartedly to anyone.

I went with a group of friends and we were served by a waitress (Emma) who was really unhelpful and disrespectful to all my friends. I just wish I had taken them to a different restaurant. The quality of the steaks was so poor and the attitude I received from Emma was by far the worst. I would never go back again.

Absolutely amazing. Went for a dinner here, there was a really lovely atmosphere and the option to sit outside or at the front of the restaurant was really nice as it was so open and was a warm night.I had the halloumi and avocado starter and was really impressed. The halloumi was really nicely charred and the crushed avocado had been seasoned perfectly.The rump steak was amazing - cooked exactly how i asked for it and was really flavourful, as were the fries, and the mushroom sauce that came with the steak was amazing.The churros were really good - perfect ending to a great meal. In terms of drinks, they have a really good selection of beers, wines and cocktails and their mojitos are amazing.Lastly, the staff were friendly and accommodating and the owner was really interested in hearing about everyone's experience of the food and restaurant in general. Definitely plan on coming back!

Algunos de nosotros no queríamos ningún huevo en el desayuno y estaban felices de cambiarlo por otro artículo.

Somos clientes habituales de Sirous steak and ale. El personal es increíble, siempre muy amable pero no agobiante. Sirous hace que todos los que visitan sean bienvenidos, ya que es su hogar. El bistec siempre se cocina a la perfección. Sin embargo probé la lubina y quedé satisfecho con el plato. Siempre lo recomendaría. En un día soleado este lugar lo tiene todo.

Hemos estado allí tres veces y cada vez que había una comida perfecta, un delicioso desayuno. Y lo mejor de todo fue la gente: abierta, amable y dispuesta a ayudarnos con todo lo que podamos necesitar en nuestro viaje. Mucho más que nosotros excepto. Nos trataron como viejos amigos. ¡Brillante!

Live in West Hampstead but was our first visit here. We sat outside as was sunny. Service was excellent, fussy group who wanted variations to the menu but was no trouble. The food itself was excellent. Starters were very good portions and very tasty. We asked to move in as it became cold and again there was no issue. Never had to ask for more water as it was constantly refreshed. Very friendly staff.

The chicken liver pâté is amazing! Great service and good selection of steaks. The cote de boeuf was delicious also.

Los menús parecían baratos, las luces para una cena estaban muy brillantes, lo que afectó el ambiente, olvidó uno de los lados, se quedó sin la racha de huesos, mala selección de ron (aunque el G&T estaba muy bien servido, que es toda la rabia en este momento) .Perfecto para una noche de cita relajada, pero no le brindaría el servicio que necesita en la primera cita.Vendría de nuevo

Very good food. I had the steak and ale pie and my aunt ordered the lamb chops. The pie was divine and the chops where cooked to perfection. The sautéed potatoes accompanying the pie are delicious. The staff where very friendly. We had a great night out.

Como habíamos tomado una bebida rápida de antemano, optamos por una mini botella de Prosecco, que funcionó bien, aunque estoy seguro de que una recomendación de rojo hubiera sido mejor. Fui aquí para el almuerzo, el servicio fue excelente y la comida era increíble. Tuve la mejor hamburguesa que he tenido. Un precio muy razonable y la camarera encantadora más dulce. Mucho mejor que otros restaurantes de West Hampstead sobrevalorados. Ambiente tranquilo y relajado. ¡Inténtalo!

I went there with no idea at what to expect-and it was a lovely looking restaurant with really nice and friendly people working there. The food was also excellent and although not a large menu it covered a great deal. The bonus was although the prices are not that high so although you could call it a cheap eats it is not cheap at all but really good dining. Th lay out is also an interesting concept in the middle there are couches so you can sit and have an informal time and the tables are well spaced and there interesting decor. dominated by a large mirror.

Above and beyond, great service and unique food, I had the butterfly chicken and a glass of Pinot Grigio. We will be back...

We had a very disappointing evening at Sirous. As this used to be a tapas restaurant, I have no idea why they chose to specialise in steaks when they clearly can't cook them. The meat was poor and very tough and chewy. Not a pleasant experience. The service was also poor, they forgot our drinks, they did no white wine by the glass as stated on the menu and our bill was wrong. Other people in the restaurant were complaining about the standard of their food as well. I won't be returning.

We went there for a drink and snack, the staff are beautiful, kind and friendly, really good atmosphere, the food was not bad either, it was delightful, we strongly recommend.

Amazing duck burger, the lighting is beautiful and makes it feel so cosy. Best place to catch up with friends and the service is the very best! We will definitely be back!

I had previously visited this restaurant when it was tapas and enjoyed the food and recently saw that although the name remained, this Spanish restaurant was now a steak house.

This is the third time I have visited. On each occasion the food has been excellent, the service exemplary and the prices very reasonable. I also like the location, decor, cleanliness and friendliness and efficiency of the staff. All in all, I highly recommend this place.

I booked this place last weekend. My friend and I were really looking forward to having lunch at this place because the reviews were generally good. I arrived early and the girl didn't have a clue about my booking (at least she didn't say). I wanted to order a glass of Spanish wine, Albariño, but they didn't have that. I wanted a glass of Rueda, they didn't have that either, the same with a glass of Ribera del Duero. At the end I ordered a glass of sparkling water, ... The food we ordered was acceptable but not special. I ordered croquetas de jamon (deep fried) and tortilla Española. My friend ordered champinoñes con ajillo and albondigas (these were not the traditional ones).

Lovely food & lovely people. Great breakfast selection, from light to hearty. Superb coffee too. We go a lot.

Always cosy, the food is yummy and the portion sizes out of this world. Would recommend for brunch or breakfast any day!

We popped in for lunch, wanted something exotic and quick. We had lamb cutlets and bbq chicken. It was absolutely lovely. Very tender and juicy. Well recommended.

This restaurant has become one of my favourites in West Hampstead. The food is is impressive with a right price tag. The staff are really helpful and helped us choosing the best dishes on the menu. Looking forward to going back there soon.

We have eaten here a few times so far and it's one of our neighbourhoods favorites. The food is excellent and staff are very friendly and the large outdoor terrace sitting is also a big plus when the weather is good. Planning another visit there soon with some friends so we can all enjoy the wonderful tapas and the good wine selection.

He ordenado para la entrega y la longitud de tiempo era razonable y me gusta el hecho de que la comida era entregado caliente. Yo estaba decepcionado ya que la paella no era tan buena. A mi hijo le gustaba el cordero con arroz. Probablemente probaré algunos de sus platos la próxima vez.

Esta es mi segunda visita a Sirous y no me puedo quejar. Es el lugar perfecto para visitar con un grupo de amigos/familia. La comida era muy sabrosa y auténticas tapas, había una buena mezcla de vegetariano, carne y pescado. Son estupendas, el personal servicial. Si estás buscando comida sabrosa, variedad y buen servicio con un ambiente cálido. Mis amigos y yo pedimos un montón de comida y algunas bebidas y era muy asequible.
