Well that was worse fish chips ever Fish tasted burnt chips what was there dry horrible 15 pounds I wouldn't mind paying 15 if it was nice

Second take away in recent months and in both cases the Haddock was overcooked dry and not nice to eat. Chips fine.

I was appalled about the gentleman with the pony tail ,I brought some chips and sat on bench in high street ,there was a lady selling magazines and the gentleman with pony tail came to collect sign the language and attitude towards the young lady was distuging. I often speak to her and she's just trying to make a living and I won't repeat language used

Arrived for last orders at lunch time so they freshly cooked Cod and chips, the chap that served me was really polite and helpful. The fish was beautifully fresh and flaky with lovely thin and crispy batter, the small portion of chips which I asked for were good, not greasy. It even came with a slice of lemon all in a roomy card board box. Not cheap at £8.80 but I have paid more for the same that were nowhere near as good. All in all very good value.

Tiny portions, didn’t even fill the box. The Veggie sausage was tiny, but charged a premium. The fish was really greasy and over cooked. Not at all value for money. Spend less on the posh boxes and provide decent size potions. Very disappointed.

Whist the staff were polite and pleasant, the food was very poor and excessively pricey. Tiny portion of chips and what looked like a generic fish portion from a supermarket freezer pack. Worse food was basically cold when we arrived back home some 10 minutes later. Seems to me a classic Stroudie example of style, ie lovely custom boxes, which do not insulate at all, over substance. If you have to have bespoke wrapping why not go for personalised sheets of paper which would insulate better.

The haddock was lovely and fresh and the chips were freshly cooked. Recommend if you are looking for great fish and chips.

The first Tuesday of every month is gluten free night and something not to be missed. Crispy batter, succulent flaky fish and yummy chips. Friendly staff and easy location to collect food in the car, but they also have a lovely little seating area.

Chips rubbish. Like they had been reheated and portion small. Haloumi and chicken nice but chips spoilt it really…shame. Not busy either so no excuse for rubbish chips.

I visited on Gluten free Tuesday to collect a takeaway. I'm vegetarian and my husband is coeliac so seemed like a good idea. I'd pre-ordered fish and chips for him and tofu fish and chips for me. The people behind the counter were friendly and I waited outside while the order was put together. I noticed how cumbersome it was for the staff to fill up the boxes they use, none of that easy adeptness in a normal chip shop where putting it in paper and rolling it up seems much easier. I also think the food gets cold quickly in the boxes. Once home the verdict was that the haddock and chips were lovely, as was the Tofu fish, though it was a bit greasy. The chips were not the most flavoursome and the quantity was tiny. The prices are not unreasonable but to justify them I think the box should have a decent portion of chips. I'll probably go back because my husband was so pleased not to have to remove the batter, but secretly for myself I'd rather have a big portion of chips and curry sauce from the Whitminster chippy.

Chips here are usually freshly cooked and piping hot, perfect for keeping your hands warm on the way back home. You don't get many and it is a bit pricey, but normally worth it.

This is posh, and good quality - but a bit pricey for my liking. But very delicious and lovely atmosphere. Classy fish and chips, and healthful (small) portions of chips for the money - which is not that great.

I'm not a fan of fish and chips - so was a bit reluctant to visit Simpsons when a friend suggested it - but glad I did and will definitely go back again - absolutely top class fish and chips - the best I've ever had - and although it was busy we were served quickly and ate in - with the tea and food brought through to us - lovely friendly helpful staff too - can't recommend highly enough.

With perfectly cooked, sweet and succulent fresh fish, Simpsons is out and out the very best chippy around. We love it.

As per any trip to the UK one must get fish and chips at some point. There are many fish and chips shops around but how does one choose? I was drawn to Simpsons because they cook your food to order! This is a big deal for me because I hate food that has been sitting under a heat lamp for long periods of time. The fish was fresh and delicious. The food was cheap and I will definitely be going again before I leave.

Second fish n chips in last six months here and won’t bother again as just no flavour, gave them another chance last night. Batter and chips tasteless.

Visited Simpsons in stroud for the first time yesterday. Have to say the chips was very nicely cooked and just the right amount of salt and vinegar. The gentleman cooking and serving was very polite. Like I said a good addition to the stroud food scene.

This place makes me so happy. All of the food is clearly well sourced and you can just tell that a lot of thought goes into how everything is sourced and prepared. I have just discovered the to-fish which is delicious and you must try! A friend ordered me the curry sauce with it once - I thought I wouldn't like it but it was amazing! And they make this curry/katsu sauce fresh - and you can really tell.

Yes.... Cotswold hipsters would love this place.... The food was average, the wait was long, the portions were small and you get the distinct impression you are paying for the 'experience' rather than the meal. Big Fish on Nelson St wins every time

Great food, great variety, parking outside, friendly staff. Downside is that you have to wait ages to get your order, I’ve had to wait over 30mins before, if that was sorted out it would be perfect.

I visited here to try the vegan options - tofish and frickles (fried pickles). Personally I enjoyed the frickles more than the tofish but the food was affordable and served quick by polite staff.

Nice to see your food being cooked fresh. Quite a wait, but worth it. Would certainly go again. I wish them success.

Now that the best chip shop in the country (last years award) has finally come to Stroud I thought I'd give them a go.

I rang ahead after a long tiring journey home. Staff were so helpful and friendly, my food was really quick and I walked in. The people waiting we’re surprised I walked in and out within 5 minutes!

The quality of the food was ok. Nothing outstanding, but the attitude of the staff member in charge was rubbish, it was that smile sweetly say the corrrect things but really didnt care about you. Ok , they dont sell pies (no space i was told, funny comment) but after 10 mins i asked about my order, turns out they forgot a fish off the order and had to cook it, of course i got a sorry, but it just didnt seem real, so i said what are you going to do to show it, he looked shocked I should ask, what do you mean he asked, i suggest a can of coke while i now wait longer, ‘im sorry i cant do that’ was the reply. Now I actually dont drink coke but it now became a matter of principle and we discussed it futher, but he was not budging and it was clear the apology was a veneer . So i waited 20 mins in an EMPTY chip shop for an order over £20. Well i wont ever use them again, not because I didn’t get a free drink, because at the end of the day, they did not care.

Had Two fish, one chips, mushy peas, a drink and two battered halloumi for under £15- on a Saturday night sat outside, and loved it chips where brilliant, crisp and not at all greasy served in a nice little box. Fish was crisp, fresh and very tasty.

Got off the train from London and went for an evening tea. The batty was not usual potato layer and meat but corned beef and chilly! It was spicy and delicious for spicy food lovers! I had mini fish and chip! Was small portion but just enough for me ... not a big eater!

First visit as it's got a good rep and there's been a lot of hype about it. Staff were lovely milling around waiting to the Friday rush. The chips are yellow and dry not greasy, the fish was BORING zero flavour and the batter was raw in places. I'm sorry but what's the fuss? Box seems to be where the money went. Been now, but back to my usual chippy. The fish is NOT worth a fiver!

Lovely friendly staff. Looks nice and clean. I had tofish for the first time a few months ago. I gave them some feedback about it, which it seems they took on board and the tofish on Wednesday was amazing! Very highly recommended

This is a very good fish and chip shop. They have standards around sustainable fishing which is a massive plus for me. Friendly service and yummy food.

Simpsons has become my favourite fish and chip shop in Stroud

Have been here a few times now since it opened, I do have to say that the taste and quality has been great and the staff are super friendly HOWEVER, the prices are a bit much for a chip shop, the portion sizes are pretty small and the wait for food is pretty crazy sometimes (the first time we visited we waited over half an hour for food for 2 people) also the chips have been luke warm a couple of times. I do need to say that the deep fried halloumi and frickles are pretty amazing. Would go again as a treat and if I had time to wait but otherwise back to my usual chip shop (better prices, better portion sizes and a lot quicker)

A relatively new Fish bar in town - very efficient in handling orders. Obviously popular with locals on the weekends when on the two occasion i visited the Q was stretched outside the door. Menu was Ok , and i had no complaints about the food , but it was a bit pricey vs. other Fish shops in the town . On balance I still prefer the other one on Nelson St.

Travelled over to Stroud for tea tonight. It as good but didn't live up to hype by a long stretch. Not a fan of the batter But I'm one of few that likes mine abit soggy. The boxes are way too large for portion size, it rattles around the box and the curry sauce was just offensive!

Delicious fish and chips - a little more expensive and a little less chips than our usual chippy, but the fish was delicious and the batter light and crispy. A lovely treat.

The fish is cooked to order not sitting in a hot counter for hours so it is really fresh not dried out like you get some places Must say that it is really tasty and well prepared. You have wait a bit longer while it is cooked but well worth the wait. Bear in mind the parking is a bit limited if you came by car.

We've eaten here about 5 or 6 times since opening (previously very good), last nights was very disappointing (Wednesday evening) chips were very soggy and on the greasy side, no different from any other chip shop, definitely not award winning!

Simpsons has always been on my radar for fish and chips in Cheltenham but its a long way to go from this area. They are consistently top quality freshly fried and absolutely no waste you can eat it blindfolded so now we have one in Stroud what's not to like? Ok location could be better (the old Millets store would have been a great location) not next to some seedy public toilets and Stroud being anti-car there is nowhere to park without worrying whether you will go back to find a ticket but that's not the fault of Simpsons. As for price well you get what you pay for and to me quality is worth paying for.Who wants to buy food on price and then leave half of it? Roll on Friday thank you Simpsons that's supper sorted !!

This would be a great after-school treat for children, however we were disappointed to find it didn't open until later on a week day.

Everything about this place is great: the service, the interior, the setup and especially the food! I would heavily recommend if you just need some chips or a slice of halloumi and despite being vegetarian, there are many options I can have.

Food is good quality one of the better chippys iv been to easily but charging £1 for a tub of tartar sauce which is gone after 3 dips is scandalous

Hake and Chips...the fish was well cooked, moist and full of flavour. The chips were chunky and blemish free. Serving staff were very friendly. Only has counter service. If want sit down service need to go to Cheltenham. They did have two chairs and tables outside but I choice to eat in the church yard.

We were delighted when we heard Simpsons were opening in Stroud as their Cheltenham restaurant is so good. As is often the case, when a successful business decides to expand their outposts often fail to come up to the original standards. There are several fish and chips serveries in Stroud and the locality which have nothing to fear from Simpsons

Like all good Stroudies we visited the Stroud fringe festival. We had heard good things about Simpsons, so we decided to get some food to eat while we watched some acts.

Brilliant chippy so much better than all the others here not greasy at all! Crispy batter on fish and sausages right amount of chips and brilliant curry sauce! A proper chippy!

The arrival of Simpsons has brought high quality fish and chips to the town. No more greasy chips in paper this is crisp batter, succulent chip presented in cardboard boxes which prevents them sweating. Halloumi in batter is wonderful. The staff are polite and well organised for a busy take away. If you want fish and chips in Stroud this is the place to go.

The frickles,halloumi and chips were amazing, my children want this every Saturday lunchtime now! 😆 We have been twice now and even when they are super busy the food stays to the same high standard.

So this is how Fish and Chips is supposed to be. Crisp battered Cod (other fish available) perfectly cooked non greasy chips, excellent Mushy Peas, served in vented cardboard boxes with grease proof paper that doesn't stick to the contents. All put into a large paper bag for you to carry home in. Therefore when you unwrap your fantastic fish supper the food can be put onto your plate without the contents sticking to the paper and it all remains crisp and fresh as it hasn't sweated being carried home in a cheap plastic bag.
