They said it was the Best Fish & Chips and they weren’t wrong. We have tasted fish & chips from other chippies claiming theirs was the best but none of them get near the Chip Shed. They were “Simply the Best”, even better than a certain TV chef in Cornwall. Well done The Chip Shed, we will be back.

We’re regular customers, living locally. Had 2 cod and chips; something has changed. The fish was dreadful, brown chewy fish at one end, chips were soggy, anaemic looking and undercooked.

What a dissapointment. The chips where small, sharp and hard and the fish seemed like it had been frozen, dry but mushy at the same time. Never again

Quite nice fish and chips although after waiting for fish the chips weren’t v warm. Main guy ‘the fryer’ was very miserable, couldn’t raise a smile and almost tried putting me off the 6/7 minute wait for fresh fish. I was happy to wait but the service will put me off going again.

Nice staff and a clean place, but the chips were dry and hard, clearly hours old, despite being very expensive.

Good location. And a good size portion. The box was so full the lid would not close flush. These are crispy chips and I do like a soft chips. This review is not a reflection on the style of chip. This is the taste, I think caused by dirty oil. There is a taste sometimes fishy sometimes a bitter nasty taste a couple of chips weirdly reminded me of cleaning products in he taste.

Pre-ordered food for collection, when I got home the chips were cold and soggy but had no salt or vinegar, over half of the chips were green and there was a curly ginger hair in them - took them back and asked for a new portion - to which they said they’d run out of chips - no offer of refund

Had delicious fish and chips here yesterday cooked fresh to order. Utterly moreish. Liked addition of lemon wedge and tartare sauce. Would definitely return and recommend.

Had food delivered, nice and hot and that's as good as it gets! The chips were hard and had sharp points but that's what you get from frozen chips! . The pea fritters were flat and stuck to the box, battered sausage was ok. I ordered this for my grandchildren as a treat when they stay over and they were very disappointed and still hungry as I had to bin the chips. You need to use real potatoes and up your game to match your prices! Won't be using again as I don't like wasting my money!

Just moved to Minch so I thought I would give the local chippy a go. Not that enamoured. Ordered steak pie, chips, beans, drink and 2 brownies. £17 for this including delivery was fine. Took about an hour, which whilst not fantastic as I live very close, was ok. When the food arrived, the beans had escaped and were over the "chips" which was a pain. The food was best described as tepid to warm. The chips were not what I am used to. I would call them half chips. They must of been made from small potatoes. More of a long chip fan myself. They were very crispy, again not my favourite type of chip. Was left with many tiny hard chips, disappointing. The pie was delicious with nice big chunks of steak, a very flavoursome gravy and a nice pastry case. The brownies, whilst being very tasty, were quite small for the cost. I will give it another go, maybe get from the shop though. Edit. OK, I get it now. Had Haddock and chips with mushy peas. This time, although for me there were too many tiny, tiny chips, they were all bloody gorgeous. The Haddock was cooked to perfection and the tartar sauce, which I wasn't expecting, was out of this world. Mushy peas needed a bit more seasoning for me but overall fantastic. Another edit. The pea fritters are to die for, but what will now stop me from going again is the chips. They are not chips, at best, for they are splinters. A real shame as most of the food is good. Just want proper chips!

Had some fantastic chips from here earlier. Best I’ve had in Gloucestershire and they even let the dog stand inside. Superb service

Returned today 1st time since a bad batch a year ago. The food today (fish and chips and cuury sauce and home made tartare sauce ) was absolutely top notch, worth every penny.

We’ve been here a few times and it’s been brilliant - really fluffy chips and good portions with no grease. Picked up our takeaway last night and had to drive it straight back for a refund - everything was dripping in grease and the scampi portion was abysmal.

Just great fish and chips with proper mushy peas. We got a smaller portion which was still big! Nice place.

Something has gone very wrong here. It’s gone from disappointing to pretty well inedible. Had a meal a few weeks ago and felt it was massively over priced for distinctly average food. Now it’s extortionate for food I wouldn’t feed my dog. Burnt chips, pie that’s so over cooked the gravy has evaporated and the meat was so dry it was like eating spoonfuls of sand, pastry was essentially burnt cardboard. If you’re going to serve food worse than McDonald’s then prices ought to match.

When we got the bill I was shocked 😲. We paid 75 pounds for 3 persons for two (tiny) starters, main course and one drink. All in all, the price and quality did not match by far. Over priced. A shame

Really looking forward to the Fish & Chips, especially with the self promoting awards recognition boards. Unfortunately not what I experienced. The fish was OK. The chips barely cooked. Some were too hard to eat. Wouldn't go again or recommend anyone to visit. Overly priced & under delivered. No thank you.

Excellent quality. The young man serving was very knowledgeable about food allergies and cooked us some gluten free chips with a new batch of oil.

Used the Chip Shed about 2 years ago and was delighted with the high standard of food and presentation. Went there again 10 days ago and was very disappointed. The cod was small, overbattered and overcooked and the chips were mostly hard. The whole thing was luke warm because of the time it took the young chaps behind the counter to get the order right, so the meal was not at all enjoyable. Admittedly this was a Friday evening and they were very busy, but what a reversal from my first experience!

Epic fast service nipped in for chips but they were the best chips I've had in ages. Crisp outside and soft inside. Will be back for a proper meal very soon!

Delicious food! We ordered cod and chips. The fish had a light, crispy batter and was cooked to perfection. The chips were so good I was eating them with both hands! The malt vinegar is billed as the best in the world, it’s the best I’ve ever tasted, barley malt tastiness in a bottle. Plastic free packaging, complimentary tartar sauce, what’s not to love? I’m so happy we ordered from The Chip Shed :-)

Super Chips, fish, pies and sausage from here tonight. Absolutely delicious. All cooked perfectly and the beef dripping made it so tasty. Chips are often dry from chippy’s but these were perfect, even after a 20 min drive home. Good sized portions too…2 large chips were enough for our family of 5 adults. Service was excellent and helpful, they even offered to fry up separate chips for 1 vegan in our group. Thanks Chip Shed

Fantastic fish and chip shop, go there at least twice a month and usually have haddock and chips, never had a bad meal yet! The batter is nice and light not too stodgy, Always constant, the curry sauce and the battered halloumi are amazing! Great young team, very polite and friendly and doing a cracking job. Does get busy on Friday and Saturday evenings so sometimes best to ring and pre order, but this is to be expected on a weekend and it's a reflection of the quality.

I saw a sign inside saying award winning fish and chips. I half expected to be disappointed. I got cod and chips to share with my partner. The fish was fantastic . The batter the lightest and crispness I have had in a long time. Chips great too. Generous portion of chips we were both full.

I have just moved to Minch, and despite some of the negative reviews decided to give this place a try, as it is now local to me. The young gentleman were all polite, and while it was bit of a wait as they were busy, the fish and chips arrived. I was a little taken aback at the price of £12.35 I normally discard the batter on the fish as it is generally too greasy for me. This fish - not a chance a scrap of batter was going to survive. Amazing doesn't cut it, awesome doesn't cut it. I have never eaten such a fantastic piece of battered cod!! The fish was well cooked. The only slight negative for me was that the chips could have been cooked a little longer, but they were stil lip-smackingly good. Please keep up this level of quality, as by the end, I did not regret the cost, and will be making future visits. Thanks to all of the staff.

First time I have visited the chip shed. Chips were chewy. Pie filling was just chicken, and so very dry. Pastry was awful. No crispness about it, just soggy. Wife had fish and chips. That didn't fair any better. We both ended up throwing most of it away. Not good. Won't be returning.

We travelled to Minchinhampton last Sept & had a really excellent take away from this chippy, (see my previous review ) therefore we had no hesitation when passing through the village again early June to have a fish supper from the Chip Shed - in fact we couldn't wait ! We rang our order through, 2 fish, large chips & 2 portions of mushy peas & went to collect them a few minutes later. We were served by a pleasant youngster & then walked to the Market Place to eat them which is about 5 mins away. When we opened the boxes everything was almost cold and the mushy peas were just liquid more like pea soup & total inedible. We rang back immediately but the youngster didn't seem to know what to do. I immediately took everything back & asked for a replacement. The guy who was frying replaced the meal but the youngster said the "mushy peas " would just be the same - so I declined those & asked for a refund. I walked back to the Market Place The replacement meal was warmer but I wouldn't say it was hot. The batter & the chips were very greasy and tasted oily so we ended up throwing most of the meal away. I've read some of the replies to the previous poor reviews and have to say that it's not the quality of the fish or potatoes which is in question but the cooking of the produce which is poor - basically the staff have no idea how to cook fish, & chips. Judging by the number of poor reviews you need to up your game fast or else you won't have any customers left. You've certainly lost our custom.

You dont to knock ocal businesses but this one needs to do more. Easy ish to order on line, and meal was being prepared as I arrived. So thats good. But the service was so flat. No conversation, no smiles, no eye contact no sorry for running out of chips and having to start from scratch. The fish batter was lovely but the fish is fairly modest in size. The chips were just the scrappy bits, not lovely big chunky yummy ones you really want. We left probably half of them. Would like to recommend but honestly don't think I would rush to go there again

Very disappointed with scampi - 5 tiny pathetic pieces, not much batter, very small prawns - under sold as said 6 in portion. Queried this and was met with a shrug of the shoulder…and had waited 35mins from placing order to be served this!! Will not be visiting again.

I think the most important bit about a chippie is their chips, and The Chip Shed nails that. Although I haven't had the fish, the halloumi is also excellent so I have no doubt that the fish is too. Lucky to have this as my local fish and chip shop!

This amazing take away used to sell the best fish and chips money could buy. You could return time and time again and the food would be consistently fantastic. The chips were fresh and ‘light’ with a beautiful flavour. The fish consisted of lovely thick flakes of white cod in a light, tasty batter - I’d eaten nothing as nice. I hadn’t visited for a while but popped back about 3 weeks ago. This time the chips were oily, stringy and burnt; like they’ve been fried a number of times. The fish had a bitter taste and was actually 3 small very small ‘off-cuts’ in a ‘y’ shape rather than the traditional fillet shape; it was obviously very old judging by its unpleasant flavour. So the whole meal was the polar opposite from meals I’d had from here before. I really hope this was a one-off bad experience here, but I can’t explain the drop in quality. Sort it out guys…..what’s the issue? You used to be amazing….!!????

Increasingly the Chip shed that used to be so good has steadily got worse. Last night I ordered four pieces of haddock and three large portions of chips plus a sausage. Considering the cost was almost £50 what we received were 4 small thin dry...

Ordered fish and chips for my housebound mum on her birthday. She was really looking forward to this. Fish was almost non existent in the tough batter- mum described it as stale. What fish there was was dry, batter was tough and difficult to cut....

Just picked up haddock and chips for a Friday treat, I wish I hadn’t bothered. They were truly the worst fish and chips I’ve ever had. The chips were rock hard and had clearly been stood and the fish was no better. I won’t be going back.

Waited half an hour after pre order pickup time whilst staff seemed to prioritise their delivery drivers. Seems like staff had forgot to put any chips on. Difficult to anticipate that people might want those to eat.

Ordered a large portion of chips and this isn’t even a small. A young boy served me, very polite but clearly not very trained. Annoying when your paying your money but getting nothing for it.

Sadly - I Have to give them 1 star - They are a good fish and chips shop - their chips are great - I would really want to recommend them but I can't. I have now tried to place an order on many different occasions only to be told that I'd have to wait 40 - 60 mins before I can collect - I would totally understand this if I hadn't actually witnessed being told this and to go and pick up my order but only then have to wait for my order as they hadn't started it - and then to watch people walk in and make an order there and then and be given their orders at the same time as my order. I don't really understand why I am made to wait a long time to get my order whilst others get theirs when they walk in (and they haven't preordered) I'm afraid I won't be ordering from them again as this has happened a number of times now and my patience has gone.

Great chippy! Very, very busy though, so had quite a wait. Worth it though.

Asked for my food to be delivered at a specific time and choose the time slot on online. Food was late so I called to clarify where my food was. I was spoken to very rudely by a member of staff and stated that she clarified something that she never clarified. As I can see it’s a regular theme from the comments, I think the manager needs to have a word with her staff!

We had stopped over in Minchinhampton for a couple of nights on our way back from Cornwall in our Motorhome, love the village. On our last evening we decided to eat out but couldn't decide whether to try the Ragged Cot or The Crown. Ragged...

Delicious crispy chips - so nice we ruined our proper meal.

Staff members were not very friendly or welcoming, I asked for plenty of salt and vinegar, but when I got to the home and there was none, the chips tasted bland and the portions are really small for the price. Sadly I won't be going back as I felt really unsatisfied with what was supposed to be a treat and I love supporting independent shops but I will have to go elsewhere

Food was absolutely delicious but I totally agree with waiting times. I think this is because of the deliveries which seem to be very popular since CV - 19 but causes long waits in the shop. Maybe need more staff ? Not sure what the answer is as I appreciate all trade is important.

Absolutely fabulous fish and chips. Beautifully cooked in fresh oil, crispy, tasty chips; succulent fish in light batter. So often fish and chips are disappointingly soggy and heavy with fat, not these. First visit but it won't be the last!

Called in just as they were closing. Had a large portion of chips and cod. Delishous. I think I'd of been dissapointed if i'd ordered a smaller portion of chips, as the large isn't very large, but it was very tasty, the fish has very light coating on it, not heavy batter. I'd definitely visit again if I'm in the area.

Food was lovely but we were walk ins and we're waiting for 45 minutes with a toddler waiting in the car. It seemed empty when we got there so no reason to expect such a long wait and no one warned us of the wait. Also didn't ask if we wanted salt and vinegar when we ordered [as you now wait outside no one asked while the order was being prepared]. Final thing, asked for Tartar Sauce for Scampi but none was provided. So in summary, Food is lovely but service could be improved particularly communication over waiting times and how they deal with walk-ins.

Genuinely disappointed having had great fish and chips in the past. Cod was very thin with small flakes, so not ideal, but I guess they have no control over size of fish delivered (?); the batter was good though, crispy and not greasy. The most disappointing thing was the chips, the staple of a fish and chip shop. They were hard and dry but tasted greasy all at the same time. Almost like they were reheated chips but this is unlikely as it was late in the evening and they should have been quite fresh. They were tasteless too, like cooked in oil, not beef dripping as claimed. Shame, I really like this chippy and have driven by others to get to it.

Waited around 15-20 minutes for the food to be cooked when there was nobody else waiting. Took the food up to Rodborough common in the car (5 minutes max) and found that the chips were like chewing on bits of old shoe( some were raw!), and the fish had barely any fish in overly oily batter. Not sure what the awards were for but I've definitely had better fish and chips for less money and served quicker. Very disappointed.

Sullen and moody front of house... chips were so strange...rubbery and chewy and gave up eating them when bit into a raw potato. Fish was soggy... not entirely sure how you can deep fry like this, definitely an art! A very weird experience, if you are into strange food check it out, if you don't want food poisoning, avoid.

Made a special trip up to the common for fish & chips . Best decision I’ve done in ages . We all wolfed ours down as they were v very tasty . Best I’ve had since being away by the coast .
