Berkeley fish bar in Stroud

We where passing threw and noticed this fish and chips shop when entering there was no customers waiting or ordering food our order was one cod two fish cakes and two medium sized chips all I would say to anyone wishing to order food from this place is don’t waste your money very very poor the chips looked over over over done and like it’s been re heated when eating the chips they where so dry the cod was a little greasy I would 100% not recommend

Been here a few times as it's sort of my local. Great food and service. Generous portions and a friendly atmosphere.

Never ever in my life had the rankest chips never use this place its vile had bad once before so thought I would give it another go definitely won't be going back

Oh dear what has happened price increase i get, but you cannot serve this to customers.Shame a loyal customer lost i am afraid.

Yet the potatoes they Ve used for making chips look like to be a few days old as well as being bruised overcooked in what looks to be dirty oil I personally will never go back and buy anything from there again.

Very poor chips...honestly thought they'd been warmed from yesterday! If not poor seconds left over from lunchtime. So many bad ones and gritty. Sorry Berkely fish & chips it's a first & last time for me. Have a bit of pride in what you produce.....

It would be a good idea if the opening hours were posted properly, eg 4pm Monday says open, but not.

Great place for usual chippy food as well as burgers & kebabs. Service always friendly & efficient. Food never disappoints, love it!

Had a large order for 17 people. Ordered for collection at 6.30pm only had to wait 10 mins. Food was really good and stayed hot. Had a mixture of pizzas, chips and kebabs. All good.

Just moved in up the road and decided to try out the chippy! Wasn’t disappointed. Cooked to order beautifully cooked and lovely and hot. Will definitely be back 😊

Really good now. Have had several meals and the fish and chips is much better than it used to be. Not such a long wait either. They now do pizzas as well, but not tried them yet.

The guy at the counter is a sweet heart I’ve moved from wales and was desperate for a decent kebab!! Food was amazing !! The best kebab I’ve ever had!! My favourite place to get take away food !! I can’t get over how cheap it is but that might be because I’m from the city !! Yum yum !! Well done guys 🙃🙃

A disappointment as no gluten free options were available.

Ryan is very polite and professional. We come here more often than we should as the food here is so delicious. It does get very busy sometimes as as it is so good but our expectations are set for how long we will wait. Our favourites are the battered burger, chips and chicken nuggets. To top it all off, everything is reasonably priced. A must if you are visiting Berkeley.

Expensive and all tasted the same. Fishcakes tasted like the battered sausage which tasted like the chips which tasted like the.......I think you get the picture....

Working in the area & BFB was recommended to me along with their chicken tikka kebab. Gotta admit I wish I lived nearer 😋 absolutely cracking kebab 10/10 fair play... HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Fish was nice. No complaints. Young lad is very friendly. People I see from other reviews moan about the waiting time. I had to wait 10-15min. It's all done fresh so don't understand why people moan. The only thing I would say is that they only take cash. I've had to go to the cashpoint on several occasions that's just up the road so no panic .

A lovely shop with excellent staff. The poor lad behind the counter always manages to pull off a great service despite being busy and often on his own. The fryers are welcoming and friendly with good food. Obviously, they have there hiccups as they're human but overall, it's excellent food with outstanding service. The staffing issues are Obviously out of their control but they're doing a wonderful job considering these difficult times and lack of help. 10/10 recommend.

Trie this place while on holiday, Food was fine service was extremely slow. Have ordered fish and chips from a take away at home and had uber deliver the 2 miles quicker than this place

Don't go there at lunchtime as they never gave any chips ready. If I wanted to wait 15 minutes for chips I would stay at home and cook my own. 😒

ive had my ups and downs with this place like once a had rlly bad diarrhoea cuz of the cod but thats fine the food taste wise is ight,u need salt and vinegar.one of my homies rlly like the place so maybe im just being picky

I was visiting the area needed some food. I looked on the high street and found this place. It was one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever had! Cheers guys, wish I lived close!

Visited the town of Berkeley for the firs time and we decided to have fish and chips for lunch. Mini cod and chips x 2 - made to order. Added mushy peas which topped off the meal very well. Good size serving, hot and fresh. Couldn't fault it and I am a northern chap with plenty of fish and chips under my belt. Literally. We will go back the next time we are in Berkeley I'm sure. Keep up the good work guys.

Whilst feeling like you are burdening them by being there ordering food, shadowed by the glaring stares of the fish fryers, the food is well below average at a push. The fish is mainly batter, swimming in oil. The kebabs are not at all bad, as long as they have the ingredients in, which is inconsistent. The pizzas are average. There is a very good equivalent in Dursley, friendly staff, amazing food, we will be using them from now on.

A group of 9 of us went here for our tea. It was the first time using this chippy. We were very happy with the food and service. Very enjoyed the food. Some thinks it’s better than my local chippy. Definitely visit again

We used to visit every week, but lately we have not been happy with the fish and chips. The fish is very over cooked with a lot of batter and very greasy, to the point of being very dry and inedible. Even the cat stopped eating his treat. The chips are average and seem to be stale or re cooked. Such a shame as it used to be so good. Still a long wait for the fish, which is a shame because while you wait for so long, they are over cooking it.

Crunchy batter & crispy chips, plus friendly staff what more could you ask for - nothing so spot on.

Always brilliant, Cod cooked to order and perfection, too many chips but whose complaining. Lovely staff. If the wait is long enough you can always nip to the BA opposite. Best shop in Berkeley.

We are so lucky to live in the area where we can have fresh & tasty fish and chips. Made to order and worth the wait when they’re busy. We don’t have it often but so happy they’re there when we do!

Go in here every now and then to get some dinner when I cannot be bothered to cook! There are some very young servers in there who are always smiling. Food I would say is good, what you would expect for fish and chips, its nice!

Chips were nice and a decent portion for the size but the cod which was cooked to order was massively over fried. Batter was rock hard and tasted of oil and the fish itself was dry and chewy. I’d come back once more to give them the benefit of the doubt but if it was poor I certainly wouldn’t be back

great donar kebabs the fish is always fresh huge portions 1 small portion of chips are plenty for both me and my wife.

15 minutes, not acknowledged, ok buisiness steady for a Friday, but asked if my order could be taken and get in the que to wait, was told yes and then forgotten about immediately. Standard wait is 20-30 mins, after order has been processed as all cooked to order which is great when its quiet, but Friday and Saturday busiest evenings it's the only takeaway I have ever known that has ques longer than the rides at Alton towers. Would go a long way if you were acknowledged for one, and have a system in place that was organised, or even a leader in there that can manage. Sorry 3rd time going back was never lucky, done with it, Kingshill, quicker, great customer service, organised and managed.

2 large cod 1 chips,just over a tenner. Piping hot, crisp batter ,large flaky fish.chips with a bit of colour firm but soft inside. Smashing service,spotlessly clean premises. A Proper Fish and Chip Shop,

Took a while for food to be ready, but being made fresh really made a difference, the fish was superb, light and tasty and the chips were lovely. 1 star knocked off due to the fact they do not take debit cards, but cashpoint only a minutes walk away around the corner.

This is a fine fish and chip shop. It is excellent value and good quality, also good curry sauce, and the evening kebabs are great. BUT they are missing a lot of sales because there is such a long wait for fish and also the evening kebabs. We usually just have chips now despite loving the fish, because having to wait 20 mins for each customer in front's fish to be cooked is just too long. They only do fish to order as customers come in, instead of doing 3 or 4 lots of fish at once, if the customer asks for one fish they cook one fish and everyone has to wait to have theirs cooked individually. I wish they would ask all the customers waiting in line who wants fish and then do several pieces at once, it would be so much better.

After waiting 25 minutes being the second costumer in the shop I came home and chucked my food in the bin it was disgusting. Chips over cooked and fish was mainly batter. What’s happened to the lovely fish and chips it used to be.

Very good chippie. Staff are professional and very welcoming. Chips and fish are well cooked and not soggy with oil. I can highly recommend the chicken tikka kebab, a favourite amongst regulars.

Really great fish and chips at a reasonable price. It can take a bit of time in the week because they cook most things on demand but it means everything is fresh and lovely, which I do prefer. Often on a Friday people are queuing out of the doors but it still doesn't take that long to be served.

This is my local chippy and find I succumb to it's charms more than I should! Overall, a pretty good chippy, offering the usual deep fried delights and kebabs and burgers. Fish and chips at £5 is not too bad. The fish is nice but a little on the thin side, although the chips are absolutely lovely. Curry sauce is "proper" curry sauce as you'd get in a chinese, not the mild watery stuff in most chippys. Why not five stars?? Well, it just takes ages to get your food . . . . with just one person serving, it's really slow. A friday night can mean a wait of 20mins or so.
