Simply JJs in East Riding of Yorkshire

Simply JJs Allerthorpe Golf Club. This has been our daughter's wedding weekend. She married locally, and a number of our family guests stayed in the lodges. As a very central location for all our guests who were all staying in the area, we asked JJs if they could provide a buffet brunch for our close friends and family the morning after the wedding itself - just to prolong the party for a bit longer! JJs did this for us, providing the most wonderful cooked brunch for 41 of us, allowing us all to 'eat out' on our marvellous day. Great food, great atmosphere, great service. Thank you so very, very much.

Our initial waitress Ellie was fantastic, couldn’t have asked for more, really friendly service, kind, and she gave our dog a lovely fuss too. She’s a credit to your restaurant. The woman however with the brown hair and black and white jumper - who I think may have been the manager (we were advised her name is Amy) was vile. Came over to our table and gave us the most disgusted down her nose look ever and said “excuse me do not let your dog eat at the dinner table”, pulled a face at us and made another snide comment half under her breath, then said “it needs to be on the floor”. Our dog was sat on my sisters knee with a chew that we purchased from the venue, he wasn't chewing it on the table, and he was hardly sat eating with a knife and fork off a plate the way she made out. If dogs disgust you that much, just don’t have a dog “friendly” restaurant? She then walked over to the waitress station and pointed at our table while talking to them - clearly about us, at which the other two waitresses proceeded to stare over at us. Talk about making feel unwelcome - do you realise how incredibly uncomfortable that interaction made us feel? If the request had been made in a friendly manner without pulling faces at us and speaking to us like we were something off the bottom of your shoe, we really wouldn’t have minded at all. I fully appreciate that is your policy, not all your visitors will be dog fans, and obviously you have hygiene standards to maintain - but all you had to do was advise - not pull faces and sneer at us. Instead if we hadn’t already placed a large order for our food (and thought it would be unfair on the kitchen who hadn’t done anything wrong) we would just have walked out there and then. It completely tainted our Easter break away, and to be honest I wish we had never chosen to eat there in the first place. The food was okay, the scotch egg starter was undercooked (pictured) and the pork belly starter was literally swimming in oil (again pictured - removed the meat to show the extent of the oil). These issues however wouldn’t have even been raised by us if we didn’t experience such an awful interaction, so you can thank your lovely manager for that. We weren’t asked once if everything was okay, and our mains were brought out with no cutlery, and without the starters being cleared. Again, not something that would usually warrant a negative tripadvisor review, however on this occasion this was because not a single person bothered with us after the rude interaction with your manager. Again, talk about being made to feel welcome. Pre empting the question why didn’t we raise it at the time, we attempted to with the waitress who was taking our payment (not someone we had interacted with before) but she flounced off rolling her eyes and didn’t return. Professional! I also note a reply to one reviewer where you state that reviews are utilised to damage businesses - I think some of your employees are managing that all by themselves. Reading the extremely immature, passive aggressive, and incoherent responses to other reviews, I’m not expecting a constructive response. The restaurant seems to see itself as a victim of every single negative review, and likes to point out that it has hundreds of other customers. Well when you are the only restaurant in the whole area, people don’t really have a choice… I’d advise others to have a look at what’s on offer in the surrounding villages and where possible take the extra five or ten minutes to travel, you’ll likely have a more welcoming experience.

Got a dirty look and a telling off from the manager as my sister in law had our small dog (hypoallergenic dog) on her lap for a couple of minutes, followed by her pointing at our table to the other waitresses and subsequently poor service provided afterwards. Not a dog friendly restaurant. The staff here need to learn who pays their salary and stop treating them like peasants. Staff ruined the meal.

Nice atmosphere, enjoyed my evening there

Great food, drinks, and staff, but an uncomfortable experience with management I've visited JJ's Bar and Restaurant a few times before, especially since we love staying in the lodges nearby, and it’s always been a solid experience. The food is fantastic, the drinks are top-notch, and the staff are always friendly and welcoming. On this occasion, however, things were slightly overshadowed by an unfortunate interaction with who I can assume was the manager on Saturday night. While we were dining, he loudly reprimanded a staff member right in front of several tables, which created a tense atmosphere. It made my table, along with a few others around us, feel really uncomfortable. In fact, one group chose to sit outside (in January!) just to get away from the situation. Another comment from the same man, after we mentioned we hadn’t been served yet, was “I’ll slap whoever it is.” This only added to the uneasy feeling. I understand that managing a busy restaurant can be stressful, having worked as a bistro manager myself. But I’m not sure if this particular individual could use some additional training in handling staff and maintaining a positive atmosphere, especially in front of customers. Despite this, I have to give props to the rest of the team — the chefs, the servers, and everyone else — for their excellent service and food. Overall, I’ll definitely return, as this experience was more of an isolated incident. Hopefully, the management team can take a step back and reassess how to better handle pressure situations going forward.

Came for dinner with my friend a few months ago, we had the small plates. No complaints at all great food and drinks, reasonable prices. Will return soon I’m sure!

Just another fantastic meal had here at JJ's allerthorpe. Roast superb,all elements cooked to perfection. Great menu,still plenty to choose from with the crispy beef superb also. Thumbs up to Aidy who came highly recommended

Are your normal tapas size dishes like these? 4x small gyoza 2x bao bun 2x thin slice of pork belly 6x small prawns and you charge £9-10 for each dish? Or we have been ripped off?

Absolutely 1st class service and food ! Amazing each we have been cannot fault it , very good prices , lovely friendly staff couldn’t recommend anywhere better around pocklington area 5 🌟 all the way

Stayed at golf retreat, had 2 meals at jjs and a meal at their sister pub the plough in and all fantastic, great food , great service and friendly staff, recommend to anyone, will definitely revisit, Pete, Andrea and Cam

Lovely place, we are so glad we stumbled upon it when we came camping for the weekend. The staff are excellent. The food was delicious! My other half had a lovely home made pizza and I had the chicken gyros 🤩. If we ever go up north again!!! We won't pass this by!!! 😋

Had drinks and dinner here after a long walk. It was better than expected. Friendly attentive staff, drinks good, food really quite nice. Had belly pork chunks for one of the starters which I enjoyed. Main was gyros. Decent price for decent food in a cool setting. They could do with updating the signage that is on the wall at the bottom of the stairs …i don’t think the current one would entice people upstairs (in my opinion). Don’t let the entrance/stairs put you off going in. We were there on a Friday evening and there was a nice vibe about the place.

Try updating your hours of opening on Google so potential customers don't waste their time!

Really lovely food, i had the greek kebab and super enjoyed it, going to the Allerthorpe pub on Wednesday and intend to have the exact same 🤣

Visited with friends, place has a nice relaxed atmosphere. Staff friendly and helpful. Good selection of drinks and the food was lovely and tasty.

Delicious Sunday Dinner. Succulent chicken breast, homemade Yorkshire pudding and the best cauliflower cheese, all alongside lots of mash, veg and gravy - staff were friendly and helpful, place was clean. Don't be put off that it's upstairs, it's certainly worth a visit. Oh! And it's dog friendly, an extra bonus for us!

We were invited to private party we didn't know what to expect had a lovely evening great atmosphere , good food attentive staff . Great venue.

What a lovely place to eat! We've been twice now in less than a month and travel from Beverley to go. It's well worth it! The mushroom croquettes on the starters are just divine and the burger I had for main was perfect. The staff couldn't be nicer or more helpful. Definitely recommend the place and will return again soon. But do check with them on opening times. The website may say closed when they're not.

We would just like to say thank you so much to CJ & Dan for the amazing customer service this evening for our friends 50th Birthday. It was our first time in the area and we were staying locally in a holiday lodge. The food was fab and they accommodated our needs and wants of the party of 8. We liked it so much we are back tomorrow for Sunday lunch 😋 ps I love Aspell cyder on tap 👍🏻

My chum and I dropped in for a quick drink at the beginning of the evening for a quick drink - and stayed for hours! The place has a great vibe, enhanced (or perhaps because of...) the friendly staff. The menu is really varied with lots of different dishes on order; loved the tapas selection! Generous portions and perfectly cooked. A super find. If I lived in or around Pocklington I'd be there all the time!👍🏻

Random stop off oh way home to Selby feeling hungry and stumbled upon the door to the bar/restaurant. Have to say pretty surprised once we got up there and a pretty hidden gem. Friendly attentive staff. Food lovely. 5 star from us. Ps nobody is perfect so if I have 1 tiny complaint it would be the knife wasn't sharp enough to cut through the thick piece of meat I was given 😋

Great to see this open again after a couple of years. Open layout which is nice and airy. Very good selection of drinks. They also stock gluten free Peroni which was a nice surprise. Excellent service. Got there at 4 on a Saturday and was quiet but soon got busier. Just a shame they don't do food at the moment as I'm sure that would draw people back in. Will definitely be returning.
