Simmons in Stevenage

Just be careful when ordering sausage rolls. My husband and I were violently sick after eating these, Needless to say, i won't be ordering these ever again 🤮🤮🤢🤢

I had a cherry bake well slice , it’s the only sweet treat I like atm. Chicken mayo doorstep seeded bread. Soft Rolls I would recommend it , I prefer the old town to the new town west gate. Simmons Traditional pasty very nice.

Grabbed a traditional Cornish pasty for lunch , I returned to the car to eat it . I broke it in two to cool , the contents looked superb , but every bite had a gristly bit in the meat . What a disappointment . I returned to the store to raise an issue but the queue was huge so I just went elsewhere .

Simmons is a Hertfordshire based bakery company. Its big enough to be able to do a good range of home-baked products including breads, cakes, pastries etc. But not so large to loose attention to quality. The range has expanded to include more vegetarian and vegan choices - especially the sausage rolls (which are much more tasty than those offered by larger chain bakeries). There is no space to eat inside and a couple of small tables outside....or take your lunch to a public bench nearby.

The staff are polite and friendly, the sausages rolls are really tasty, however, rather expensive. Great lunch break!

there is nothing like a hot sausage roll from simmons. The only down side is it can get a bit expensive

First found tis bakery 55 years and they made the best cakes ever. Still going strong and still producing top quality goods. The choice of sandwich fillings and quality is top notch even if it is a bit pricey.

At first sight the shop looks like an Aladdin’s Cave of food choices but closer inspection reveals some pretty second rate pastries and not much better savouries. It’s very busy around lunchtime and when you get to the front of the queue you’d jolly well better know what you want ( even though until this point you havn’t been able to browse) because the unsmiling abrupt staff will hustle you. Bacon sandwiches are miserably filled. This place reeks of having no owner or responsible, customer-friendly manager present to guide the staff. A pale shadow of Greggs.

Popped in for a loaf and came out with quiche........ . Just could not resist it. And a loaf . The presentation of the cakes, savouries and bread is excellent. I noticed sandwiches being made, there was loads of fillings and the selection for fillings was so varied and fresh. Well done to the staff who were friendly and very patient. I'm now a regular customer. Just love the farmhouse bread.

Working in Stevenage for a few weeks and we tried SIMMONS great choice of sandwiches, jacket potatoes ,cakes and hot pastries, the bakers has one of the best presentations I have seen for a long time and looks very clean, seating out side for when it’s not raining. You pay for what you get, it’s not the cheapest.

Was served by a very moody dark haired older lady. Jacket potato hadn’t even been warmed through. It was cold, she must of noticed when she put filling it but didn’t rectify it. Young lad was very pleasant wished he’d served us. Disappointing

Frequently pop into my local Simmons in Hatfield ( the one opposite the gym) the staff there are really fab always friendly and always with a ‘have a lovely day’.

Lovely selection of savories/cakes/bread. Very fresh looking and tasty, plenty to choose from. Really found it difficult, was spoilt for choice. There is always a constant stream of people going in and out.

This place is the best in the business. Their sausage rolls are triple the price of competitors but they're never soggy.

I am very fair but I found the service slow and the “hot” food had been served to me cold. Not impressed.

Called in for a breakfast bap and a coffee. Delicious food served in lovely fresh bread and coffee to die for.

Woww i just love their cheese straws, a little pricey nowadays but i still buy them. great cakes, the BEST hot cross buns ever - free parking outside

Having said we would be back for some of their homemade sandwiches we followed through. They were excellent, very generous fillings on home baked bread. May seem a little pricy, but worth the money. You certainly won't be hungry after

I'm loath to let people in on the secret as it's known to sell out fairly quickly as it is but as a recent convert to sourdough bread I have to say that Simmons is the best around. It's definitely not cheap at nearly three quid a loaf but it beats all the others we've tried (probably a dozen) hands down.

Popped in for a couple of cheese straws which did not disappoint. Will be going back to try some of their lovely looking sandwiches.

Try the sausage rolls they are always hot and tasty. A large selection of fillings for hand made rolls or toasted sandwiches. Good selection of cakes and fresh loaves too.

Symmonds in the high street is always busy at lunchtime for a reason They have a very good range of cakes and sandwhich filling Their new range of doorstep toastie are really nice

Gotta love Simmonds.....especially their cheese sand belgium buns!!! Old Town better than New Town, just needs to be bigger

We have used Simmons since we moved to Stevenage in 1998. It has recently had a very classy refurbishment and looks upscale. The bread is superb especially the Multi Seed batch formerly know as the GI Loaf. They have outside seating under a canopy so great place to grab a coffee and a sandwich and watch Stevenage life. The cakes are also so good. Really friendly service from a great traditional bakers.

All of the bread and cakes are excellent - would have given five stars if only they didn't keep running out of the most basic of items - eg just at the start of lunchtime (before 1pm) and no baguettes or brown rolls left for takeaway sandwiches - just plain white baps, another time mid morning no sourdough bread left (one of their 'signature' items). A bit more common sense on stock control needed I think.

its the only place to buy quality sourdough bread. I would highly recommend you try it as it is healthy food.

Whether it's a cake or lunch they are serving good quality food, you can tell the use good ingredients and good quality fillings.

Stopped by here last Friday and had the best salt beef and mustard sandwich in years. It makes a great change to get a chunk of real bread with a mound of delicious filling instead of the wafer thin snacks served up by the big chains, supermarkets etc. Lovely little jam tarts and a great slab of bread pudding. Yum yum. Very patient, cheerful and helpful staff and a great spot for people watching, amongst the lawnmowers! I will be back!!!

Freindly staff, plenty of cakes. Would reccomend getting there early if you want to buy rolls as the sell out quick, which obviously means they are good

There is no sarnie better!Not a lot more you can say really but the door stoppers are huge.Love the cakes too!

Great breakfast buns and in general bakery goods are great as well, haven't met a grumpy member of staff which is nice and their coffee is good as well

Fantastic array of bread and cakes, but most importantly for me, freshly made sandwiches! Many fillings available and any mixture never too much trouble. Enjoy!

Ordered a cake for my son's first birthday. The appearance of the cake was excellent but the taste and the quality of baking was just bad. It tasted like sugar and cream. There was neither any softness in the sponge nor any flavour. Very disappointed.

This is my favourite Simmons. Whenever I have friends round for lunch I pre-order a platter of sandwiches telling them what fillings I would like and I just pop along and pick them up on the day. They are always lovely.

A pleasant little bakers located in Stevenage Old Town. They do wonderful sandwiches and cakes. The sandwiches are made to order so are nice and fresh. Well worth a visit.

Visited often as I work near by. Ordinary baker part of a local chain selling hot snacks, drinks and fresh sarnies.Not the cheapest in the Old Town but open on Sundays.No where to sit but outside. Still worth the short wait as it's sometimes crowded. Situated in the interesting Old Town High Street near Middle Row.

Simmons do beautiful bread ,cakes ,sandwiches to order ,also very fresh to take away or eat outside with a hot drink or cold ,staff so welcome ing too great value for money .they also take orders for special cakes ,birthdays and wedding too much go back very soon
