Simmons Bakery in Welwyn Hatfield

I went to buy a loaf of bread. The lady serving just finished cleaning up and without washing hands or puting on protective gloves picked up a loaf with her fat grubby hands and put it in the slicer. I left. I wasn't going to buy filthy food.

My croissant was quite but the coffee is disappointing. Not pleasant, it isn't freshly brewed coffee. Average place tbh

4 ladies messing about behind the counter, we stood for over 5 minutes waiting to be served ,we were only ones in the queue, staff acted as ir we weren't there

I went here to buy a loaf of bread. Person serving put on protective gloves to handle food. But then started blowing kisses to child outside. Her saliva went on her gloves and bread. This was their flagship shop/cafe next to their bakery. What are they like when nobody can see them.

I have been coming to Simmons since 2009. I had a scrumptious meal and enjoyed very quick service with no delays. I can testament to the high quality. Sheila, Lynne & Chris are the waitresses and are exceptional and I bet the owner will be proud of their hard work. I highly recommend this restaurant and wished I lived in Hatfield. The meal for 1 was £8 and comprised Bacon Sandwiches washed down by a Latte.

We are regular customers of Simmons, visiting different branches at least 3 times a week. However I’m very concerned about the size of a pasty, priced at £3.00, which is getting smaller and smaller. We are all aware that 2020 has been tough on small businesses however there is no need to think customer don’t notice that we are getting less for our money. Simmons you have good products just don’t assume we, your customers, don’t notice that you aren’t giving us the best products for our money. Take notice. Cindy

I been shopping here since 2004 the food has always been wonderful and for me it's been an enchanting place to buy takeaway food pies and cakes I'm hopping to return to this simmons shop in hatfield as soon as possible for a meal or usual takeaway food , I spent many happy times there buying food before going to work

I had the carrot cake and it was very dry and crumbly but the staff were lovely and the place was very clean.

always amazing food and drinks and the only reason i don't want to leave Hertfordshire apart from family

We had a quick sandwich and drink here with children and grandchildren. The system is to order from the counter and then find a table. The food is brought to your table. The food is simple wholesome delicious and served hot. There is a great selections of cakes too. Vegetarians and GFs are catered for. This is a great place for the family and lunch won't break the bank.

Lovely cakes, buy to take home and enjoy, blow the diet!! Something for everyone from ultra sweet to just fruity.

Like McDonalds the offerings at Simmons are fairly standard and the difference is the service. The service we had is probably the best ever in a Simmons. An ordered salad was made up with great care and even artistry. And everything was done with a genuine smile.

I have been to this particular branch several times and today I was charged shockingly, which I queried and got told I was wrong. I always buy a bacon and mushroom roll. Well I won't from now on....I got charged £5.05 I will buy all ingredients myself and make more than 1 roll for that price.

As normal we love Simmons the baker for a number of tasty reasons But just last week a family member ask if we could bring a slab of the Normally wonderful bread pudding over as we haven't taken any with Us for quite a while can you please advise us to why you have changed The recipe it was so so dry and not at all liked bring back the old recipe Please everything else in there top notch as always

My brother lives in welwyn garden city and when he visits us he sometimes brings a bread pudding from simmonds. It has always been a real treat and enjoyed by everyone. However, it is some months since he bought us the pudding, then last week he bought one. We were all looking forward to it, but was really disappointed. It was very dry and tasteless. We thought it was a one-Off, but when he bought it again this week it was the same. It used to be so nice, but it is now completely different. My brother said he wont be buying them again. Why change what was a winning recipe to something so bland. What a shame!

I cannot possibly lavish this place with enough praise! My husband and I have the big breakfast (with doorstep toast) almost every weekend as a tradition and we love it. Best breakfast in Hatfield - trust me, we've tried them all! The sausages have actual flavour and it isn't greasy like some of the others and the mushrooms are juicy. Delicious!The staff are always lovely and it's never too busy either. The staff know us now and always ask how we're doing, about holidays, etc. You get the personal service and they're always nearby if you need help or want to change the order to something not on the menu. (We always asked for less toast because we didn't want to be wasteful! The Big Breakfast is HUGE! You will not regret it.)We've been to the Simmon's in WGC nearby and it just isn't the same relaxed atmosphere. There's always a bunch of regulars that come in now and we know them and say hi. Has the feel of a little village type place at times and very olde world.

They have got my order wrong more than once, staff constantly look unhappy, and I have pointed out numerous times over the years that their sign saying ‘Belgium Bun’ should be ‘Belgian Bun’ yet they never changed it...

Nice bakers. Good selection of sandwiches. Also offer a nice cooked breakfast although limited seating area but very pleasant.

The presentation of food on display is very impressive but the quality of food is average at best,a sandwich will cost between £3 -£5 but there is nothing special about the food,you could easily get the same quality food in the many cafes and bakery’s around Hatfield at much a cheaper price,the staff are very friendly though and the premises seem clean

I stumbled on this place. Nice family run cafe. Established 1883! The service was good and my sausage bap was lovely.

Can't fault the food, fresh and tasty. Price is slightly high for a bakery. Have eaten in and had breakfast which i've enjoyed but slightly surprised at the cost.

Undercooked pastry, under seasoned and tasteless filling, barely cooked veg - not good for £2.60 for a basic Cornish Pasty. Save you’re money, go to Gregg’s.

Low quality sandwich slapped together. No presentation at all. Chairs uncomfortable, no Wi-Fi, No plugs to charge a phone. Asked the barista for a americano she didn't know what that was.. Coffee mediocre. Neither cheap nor cheerful.

This is a nice, clean and welcoming cafe and bakery. The offer an extensive range of cakes and pastries, salads and sandwiches. Their Twist Teas are very nice and the Earl Great (not Grey) was very fine indeed.

I have been to this shop many times since 1999 and the food has been always excellent and the staff have always been helpful , I'm looking forward to next time I eat there ,as it is a very beautiful place to eat there or buy bread or a take away , they have recently made the shop bigger !! The food and service is 10/10 !! If your in Hatfield check it out , the shop has cakes and pies and bread and many other foods and sandwiches freshly made to taste and recently they started doing healthy option foods , they also have sausage rolls to eat in the shop or takeaway !!! I hope to visit shop again for a meal next time I'm in Hatfield

I was really looking forward to breakfast but had to wait 20 minutes and then got a cold breakfast. Not enough staff on and they had to go out and get the mushroom! I would check with the staff that they have all the ingredients needed before I would order food there again. Shame because the young staff worked hard!

Nos detuvimos para después del almuerzo nuestro encuentro local y encontramos un "champán de recepción" del personal y un bocadillo agradable una vez que se ha traducido por "Londres nuestras necesidades "hablar. Por esta sugerencia sería agradable panadería/tienda de sándwich para suministro de los pubs locales en el almuerzo (ya que no hacen la comida) en una base mutuamente beneficioso. Sándwiches caliente!

I have been here a few times recently and the staff always make you feel welcome. The food is nice the bread and cakes fresh daily. Pleasant to sit in or outside. You can also eat hot food including an all day cooked breakfast. Brilliant.

Simplemente buena comida y excelente café a precios razonables que son difíciles de igualar por el precio si quieres calidad. Es tan buena que no empezar el día sin un café por Simmons y bastante a menudo tostadas. O bacon la variedad de comida es muy extensa aperitivos formulario para tartas, a su excelente desayuno, así suntuosos su difícil comer todo. Si se cocinan como yo exigente el tocino a tu gusto si lo pides, e incluso cortar la piel, ¿qué más se puede pedir. Una pequeña cosa, ofrecen para añadir agua fría para café. I am all for supporting a local business but in my opinion Simmons have loss touch with their pricing that people will try anything, not to use them. Tasty food but scary prices.

Fantastic breads, cakes and yumminess. Featuring on local high streets throughout Hertfordshire they offer a wonderful selection of breads - be sure to try their Sourdough. They also do really good Chelsea Buns and if you fancy a freshly made sandwich/Bap/Toastie they can rustle that up in front of your very eyes.

They are a well respected local business and deserve their good reputation. Consistent good quality.

We stopped here for a coffee and sandwich one lunch time and were extremely pleased with our choice. The sandwiches were freshly made in front of us and delicious. The hot drinks were generous in size and good quality. All the staff were happy and helpful. :)

Popped in for a coffee and a bite to eat and was not disappointed. it was lovely. Pity there arent more tables to eat at.

The window display looked inviting and professional, unfortunately our experience was let down by poor service. Four of us sat down at the only free table, which was cluttered with used cups, plates and cans. In the half an hour or so there was no attempt made to clear our table or any other table in the restaurant area, even though other customers came and went.The two young members of staff appeared stressed and inexperienced. This is clearly a management issue, as with adequate training these staff members should be able to cope and improve their people skills. This was a great shame as the cakes and coffee were delicious. We will not use this restaurant again if we walk in to a cluttered table.

This is the place to eat in the town centre the food is 1st class the place is kept so clean/tidy customer toilets very clean the staff who work here are all on top of theirgame that lady behind who serves you Debbie is very polite and is always smiling

When I visit a friend in Hatfield, we go to Simmons for coffee and a croissant.The service can be a bit mixed, but the coffee is really good, and the filled croissants are really good, especially when warmed up.The cakes are good, and the sandwiches better quality than most bakeries. It's an old-fashioned bakery, but modern with great coffee and good seating, with a relaxed atmosphere.

I regularly go here for a sandwich lunch, eaten there. The coffee is good, the staff are pleasant, the prices are standard. I have had a truly superb cheese and egg sandwich on crisp fresh bread and a poor prawn sandwich on dry bread. I regularly have a bacon and sausage roll which is sometimes excellent and sometimes poor. Their sandwiches should always be perfect as they are all made from scratch, but for some reason they vary a lot

Paid £2.25 for a small slice of cheesecake. And was offered bad customer service, not friendly, felt rushed, felt patronised. With the strawberry cheesecake i wanted it for a takeaway, instead of putting it in a nice plastic box, the lady gave it to me inbetween two paper plates, in a paper bag. When opened it the cheesecake was squashed with the strawberries all over the place. Hmm i wonder why. No care was taken. Dont think i'll be going back there

Lovely doughnuts that homer simpson would be proud to eat. The only place to visit in Hatfield town centre as there is not much else there.

A pit stop whilst out on a family bike ride. Lovely food, bit pricey. No toilets to wash our hands prior to eating. Must be some on site surely? Xxxxxxxxxxxxx

I had a 3 day training course in Hatfield and needed to buy lunch.I went into the Simmons Bakery with my colleagues and we were stunned by the quality, size of the portions and great value on offer.We spent the 3 days comparing each other's purchases and commenting on how impressed we were.My breakfast sausage sandwich drew the most comments as it was packed full of locally produced sausages and much more than the usual large franchise bakeries would offer.If you are in Hatfield you must visit.

My favourite Hatfield shop/café. Friendly staff and top class bread and cakes. Renovation has also raised it a notch. A credit to the area!

I loved this bakery it is the best one I have been too. Food is incredible! My reasons for not giving 5* is that they charge extra to eat at the bakery!!!

Every time I have been to this place I have always walked away with bad service and sometimes hair in my product. Do not recommended.

Whilst I agree the bakery produce is quite good quality, I'm put off by the very high prices. A slice of cake to take away from here will cost more than a full cake of the same type from M&S or Waitrose. One hot cross bun or doughnut is about the same price as a full pack from those supermarkets, and there's not much difference in the quality of flavour.

Welwyn Garden City, also known locally as "WGC" or "Welwyn Garden", is a town within the Borough of Welwyn Hatfield in Hertfordshire, England.We were visiting family in Welwyn Garden City which is a very pleasant area and the main shopping centre forms part of the layout. I think that the town was part of the plan to almost regiment the layout to enable shoppers to get around without the worry of large Lorries and cars. It works and has a great atmosphere to shop or have a coffee or a beer.Amongst the shops there is a wonderful bakers called Simmons. Looking through their window display meant that you couldn't go past this shop and we quickly agreed to go in and ended up with a lovely bacon, egg and sausage on a roll that kept me going for the rest of the day. The whole shop was a delight with lots of facts of the history of the shop. Unfortunately I couldn’t remember those facts but they seemed to go back a long way. A real gem in a lovely setting.

Simmons have been in Hatfield and Hertfordshire for years and years now and properly the best bakers in Hertfordshire. I met a group of friends in here on Friday last we had a mixture of sandwiches and cakes plus there super cheese straws that are to die for and if there are none out they will cook them for you it will take 15 minutes but so worth it. What i really like about Simmons is every thing is fresh each and every day, plus they have the most nicest staff ever nothing is never to much trouble for them. So try there lovely fresh cut sandwiches pastries there super lovely cheese straws and they sell yes Guinness crisps that are very yummy.

We had another Sunday morning breakfast, really nice lovely coffee, really friendly staff and good service.

Lovely clean shop selling the best bread and baked goods in the area. I love their low GI loaf which is tasty but also helpful for me as a diabetic, I don't know of any other bakery in the country that sells one like it, in fact I take them up to Scotland for friends when I visit!

Changed premises recently and now is a combination of bakery and almost continental cafe with seats outside to have a coffee or some excellent fresh baked cakes. The staff are extremely efficient and friendly and are to be congratulated.

Simmons are the Best Bakers in Hertfordshire that`s a fact, there bread and cakes are Hertfordshire`s best. The Parade next to there main bakery really do the best value breakfast for miles and all cooked in front of you. Also they have the best staff whom are always so so nice, so call in for your cakes and breakfast today.

This lovely little town centre cafe was one let down.On the plus side it was wifi, it was fresh baked bread, fresh cooked breakfast and lunch. It has lattes and hot chocolate and fresh juice. I popped it for breakfast Monday and I found there one lacking point.For a fresh bakery and cafe they have no butter. I really don't like margarine and I'm surprised that when the focus on fresh they can't have real butter. The service it always prompt but the servers often vary in their nature. So e are quite moody while others always great you with a smile. One thing to note for dog lovers they have no issue with me buying some single sausages from the breakfast menu to feed my dog if we sit outside. This can sometimes be a little pricey for what it is you get.
