Sileby Cottage Chinese Resturant in Charnwood

Ordered crispy beef in Cantonese sauce, water chestnuts and bamboo shoots and spring rolls...Beef was ( if it was beef ) I could not tell as it was incinerated to death. sauce tasted like mixed sweet and sour and BBQ with boiled onions and very watery....Bamboo shoots were woody and whilst the spring rolls were nice and crispy only contained bamboo shoote..no shrimp or bits of meat at all. Not very good at all and I felt it was all just bad cooking.

This has to be the worst Chinese meal I have ever had. It arrived a few minutes after waking through the door got it home it looked and smelled terrible. I can’t believe they sent this food out of the kitchen. Don’t waste time or money or risk health on this place. This is the first review I have ever left. I have eaten Chinese takeaways for over 30 years.

Usually order from here but the last one we had wasn’t that good but thought a one off so tried again and this one worse tasteless. Gone in bin.

Got wrong order so I went back, the man was saying I got the my own order wrong and that I should know what I have ordered, which I fact said the right dish. He didn’t even say sorry or offer me a refund for his own mistake all well and good being quite to take the cash. He made another, put it on the counter and when back inside. HOW RUDE Definitely not going back too expensive and having to go back to get the right dish was not worth it.

We’ve just had an impromptu takeaway from this Chinese. First time, the food was fresh and delicious. Can recommend chicken satay, chicken chow mein, and chicken curry, fried rice etc. Lovely food and quick. We collected.

Ordered for delivery. Timing was good, but it goes downhill from there! Chips were very greasy and limp. Chicken balls were also greasy but with very dry chicken. No one would eat either of these. Pineapple fritters had wafer thin pineapple with batter 4 x thicker than the pineapple so were tasteless. So they went in the bin too. The 2 prawns in the house satay hadn’t been de-veined properly. The egg fried rice, pancake rolls and duck with mushroom were okay but there were far too many things wrong with this order. Prices seem to have gone up too, this was an expensive meal with hungry family members at the end.

After reading previous reviews on here I was quite hesitant as we usually use a different Chinese takeaway in the village. Not as much gravy as where we normally go but otherwise good. Food was hot and on time.

On friday the 12th, I ordered my food on the Just Eat app at 19:10. I received at notification that my food will arrive around 20:20. I rang Sielby Cottage at 20:45 to enquire on what time my food will be delivered, I got told it will be 15mins. So I waited and I had to ring for the 2nd time at 21:15 to enquire again and what I get in return is that the person on the was very rude to me and said "your food is on it's way, so the problem?!" And finally I received my food at 21:20. Not good is it? I wasn't being unreasonable, I was polite on the phone both times just enquiring about my and for it to be over an hour late and rudeness over the phone. Not acceptable, definitely don't recommend Sielby Cottage and I won't be ordering from here again.

When did this place change hands.??? I used to live in Sileby and went weekly, now my wife and I travel from Glenfield every so often for what used to be the best Chinese around. The food was bland, dry and luke warm at best. Won’t be returning. 💔

Absolutely terrible service. Ordered online using their website. Quoted 45 minutes, taken with a pinch of salt these days - but after 1:15 still no sign. Rang up, they haven’t even started cooking yet. Woman was so rude said would be another 15 minutes, even though it would take that long just for the journey. Avoid

This used to be a great place to use. Quick service, friendly smiles and correct orders. Since the business was sold due to changes in circumstances in mid-2019 it’s gone downhill and fast. Now it’s a long time to get food, orders are messed up and staff are nonplussed.

The food took longer than expected (no apology) was more expensive than orient house and completely tasteless. It went straight in the bin. What a waste of money! Won't be coming back

I must say this really is the best Chinese takeaway in the area. Fantastic. Garlic chilli chips are to die for! Judge for yourself. Cracking food.

We ordered our food at 5.30pm for delivery at 7pm. This was automatically pushed back to 7.30pm. Which was fine as we understand time are different and busy. However, after calling three times and being told our food was on the way, we eventually received our food at 9.15pm. It was cold and soggy and even after warming it up ourselves (which you don't expect from a takeaway) didn't taste great! We will not be ordering from them again, completely disappointing.

Has Sileby Cottage got new owners? As this place is now a shadow of its former self. Rude staff, poor girl on the counter overwhelmed, and the food was abysmal.

I am APPALLED!! With this place. Over 1 hour and 45 minutes late delivering. Food cold. Unhelpful staff. Unable to even get through to them to even track my order. Do NOT order from here. I am absolutely disgusted with the level of service received especially being a key worker at this time just finishing a long shift I don’t expect to have to have to put up with this abysmal level of service!!!!!!!!!!

Gave this place the benefit of the doubt after I had heard some disappointing comments about this place and I must admit the comments were not wrong, food was awful to say the least. Tasteless, cold,and what I could taste was awful I had to spit it out. Not only that delivery took too long!!

Having been to this Chinese for several years I never thought I’d be writing a review like this. I’ve heard people in the village saying the same thing about this place that it’s gone downhill. And they wasn’t wrong!!! Chow mien was tasteless and fried rice tasted of cooking oil!! The chicken balls are usually the nicest thing on the menu but they were soggy and rubbery. I like my food piping hot so I normally put my Chinese in the microwave but not the chicken balls because they go exactly the way these chicken balls were served to us!! Definitely been microwaved!! soggy, saggy balls. Yuck. Won’t be returning.

Terrible attitude from staff, particularly the older gentleman on the desk, as a loyal customer I have certainly noticed a decline in food quality also; a while ago I would have said fantastic food however now i would only recommend if you are intent on buying poor quality Asian food from a group of people unappreciative of your purchase. Normally the food form here is fabulous and Ive previously given 5 stars but on this occasion it was not up to the normal standard.Chicken chow mein was very bland, little or no flavour and spring rolls were undercooked. Did try to phone back to tell them but phone engaged so gave up after a few times. I guess we all have off days and shame because this was the first time we have not enjoyed.

We had heard good reports about Sileby Cottage Chinese takeaway so decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed; all the dishes were delicious but my vote goes to the sticky honey spare ribs. Top notch, we've been again since and will keep going.

I have eaten here for years and am get to find a nicer Chinese takeaway restaurant. It’s slightly on the pricier side but it’s absolutely worth it. I would particularly recommend a curry, chow mien or sweet and sour chicken Cantonese style.

We opted for the Sileby Cottage Chinese restaurant mainly on the strength of it's online reviews. We were not disappointed. The food was delivered within the time specified, it was hot but most importantly, the food was delicious, I recommend the spare ribs, a meal in themselves. There was so much food that we sanded some for a meal the next day and it treated even better. I can't wait to find another occasion to order from here.

Ordered from here after all our friends was telling us how good it was....and it couldn't be further from our experience.

Ordered at 9:38pm and was at my door by 9:50pm and as always tasted amazing. Never had a bad meal from there.

Having been a loyal customer for the last couple of years, the way I have just been spoken to on the phone is absolutely appalling. Having just ordered a meal for the family, they failed to deliver one of the meals.

The food from here is very good always cooked fresh and quickly. As it is nearly on our doorstep we use it quite often

This was the takeaway I picked when our group of four weekly diners decided to 'eat in' for a change. We had used this takeaway before, and been very pleased with the food and we were even more pleased this time. Easily the best Gung Po (Kung Po) chicken dish that I have eaten, plus the other three had Sweet and sour Pork Cantonese style and two portions of Beef curry. All four meals were excellent, the Pork and chicken dishes had enough in the tray to serve two people each - so I froze the remains, along with some Mushroom fried rice, for a future time. Side dishes were mushrooms and bamboo shoots and water chestnuts. The only tiny improvement could have been a few more water chestnuts in the side dish. We got athe usual bag of prawn crackers for free. I rang in the request for the food at around 5:30 and asked for delivery at 6:30, and although it was 5 minutes late, that was not a problem (it probably indicates the popularity of the shop) adde to that my house is not easy to find ! Total cost was £40.

The people here are always great. Smiles on faces and something engaging on TV whilst waiting. Safety conscious too during wet weather when a mat or covering is put on the entrance way. Food always good and delivery always on time.

Pleasant staff here and good atmosphere whilst waiting for food. Only let down is that it is cash only, otherwise it’s great.

We've been here quite a number of times now and out of the three Chinese takeaways in the village, this is the best by far.

We have tried all the Chinese takeaways in the village and this one is the best in our opinion. Crispy beef and Kung Po chicken were lovely. The special fried rice contained lots of prawns, chicken, pork etc which is better than others if you prefer it that way. The only issue is that it is cash only.

Best Chinese in Sileby, really tasty and good quality. Call early can get really busy on Friday and Saturday nights wait time can be long.

Just happened to be in Sileby this evening so great opportunity to visit my favourite Chinese takeaway. King prawn Cantonese style, crispy chilli beef, and yeung chow fried rice ... yum yum. All piping hot and so tasty. As always great service and great food. NB restaurant is closed for two weeks from 23rd Oct as the owners are on holiday

Would not use any other Chinese Takeaway in the area the best by far!!! All food cooked fresh and tastes fresh been using this place for the last 18 years never fails to deliver!

Wouldn't go anywhere else for a takeaway as best locally by a mile !! Great choice, freshly cooked, and always tastes nice. Throw in warm and friendly service. They do deliver Mon - Thurs. beware weekends can get busy so best to phone in advance.

This is the best Chinese in the area well worth the drive for perfect food. We had to wait due to bring very busy. Cannot praise the quality wonderful

Recommend this Chinese take away. I have always traveled a 40 minute round trip before discovering this Chinese. Love the rice and sweet and sour chicken. Always very busy and they don't delivered at the weekends including Friday. Plus be aware they only except cash. Delicious

I've been using this place since the 1980s. I've travelled all over the UK, Europe... well the whole world and NEVER found a Chinese takeaway or restaurant as good as this one. It's quite simply unbeatable and draws regular customers from miles around. They're so popular that they don't do deliveries on Fridays and Saturdays (unfortunately) - they'd just be too busy otherwise! You will NOT be disappointed. Their special fried rice is world class!!

Always good no matter what you order which makes it easy to try new dishes rather than stick to the normal choice. Best to phone ahead at weekends as it can get busy. Freshly cooked, fabulous service and consistent flavours. I love it !!

As a lover of Chinese food I can honestly say this is one top takeaway. Extensive menu, freshly cooked, fabulous service and they will even deliver mon to thurs. So many nice dishes you really are spoilt for choice and consistently good. Forget the rest .. This is the best !!

The owners of Sileby Cottage have been here for as long as I can remember. They do the best Chinese in the area by a mile, and its consistently good. Their beef with green pepper, chilli and black bean sauce is a classic and favourite of mine. Great value set meals too and generous portions so don't get too carried away when you order.They don't deliver at the weekends but do in the week and take cash only.

Good size portions caters for English and Chinese food, arrives hot excellent menu, suits all budgets and the chicken hasn't got added skin and bones like others nearby serve you

I picked up a phoned order from here on Friday night. The food was ready within the 10 minutes. The friendly woman behind the counter fetched the order straight away. The food tasted great too

What can I say? I've been using Sileby Cottage for over 30 years and it is still, by a country mile, the best Chinese Take-Away for miles. maybe it's the fact that I have grown into the tastes here, but if it is then I am only one of hundreds, probably thousands actually, who are similarly attracted.

For some reason, Sileby has three Chinese/oriental good takeaways. This is the best one. The crispy chicken in Cantonese style sauce is amazing. Just a side note, they do not have a card machine. If needed, get cash out from the ATM at Tesco nearby.

I absolutely love the food from here. I've never had such a good Chinese! I have had a lot of different dishes from here and they are all tasty and great quality - I like chicken and cashew nuts, crispy chilli beef, chicken in black bean sauce, sweet and sour chicken... All lovely. Service is always friendly.

although only a takeaway this place is a total gem! The food is consistently great tasting, great value and the staff are always very friendly.
