Rising Sun in Charnwood

The crispy shredded beef is very nice, but pretty much everything else we had was absolutely vile. The salt and chilli chips weren't seasoned whatsoever, and neither were the chicken wings, which tasted like something you'd buy from Iceland. The curry was like a tasteless ready meal and wasn't advertised to contain mushrooms. If I had known how vile the curry was going to be, I wouldn't have bothered wasting the time picking out the mushrooms that were more numerous than the meat. But the worst thing had to be the sesame prawn toast, which was simply very greasy fried bread with a few sesame seeds sprinkled on top. This place came highly recommended but I'd say it's the worst chinese food I've ever had, to the point 90% of it went in the bin.

Ordered food for delivery after enjoying a takeaway a week ago. The person I spoke to was friendly and helpful, hence two stars. Ordered at 5:05 PM, food came to Barrow at 5:20 PM and was not nice at all, unfortunately. Obviously not freshly cooked! Inedible ... rice tasted strange, chicken was chewy and the noodles were greasy. We had to throw it away and won't be ordering from there again. Didappointing.

Called before and they made every gluten free accommodation we needed. Fantastic Chinese food and gluten free when asked for it!! Lovely people and great food, thank you for that we never get a gluten free Chinese meal together

Very aggressive and rude delivery driver. Shouted at me on the phone. I adked him 3x where he was, but he wouldn’t tell me. Had to call the restaurant. When he did arrive, he told me i was in the wrong place, as if I don’t know my own postcode!! Will not use again.

The food was nice, needs to stop adding peas in with the omelet as it ruins the taste, they state that rice is in large containers yet they are definitely not.

Chips where cold and looked like been cooked over and over again , curry was like slush overall not good we were very disappointed

Our food took over 2 hours to be delivered, we were not happy whatsoever and especially irritated that I had to keep phoning to find out what the delay was. The restaurant never called me to let me know there was a delay. Really unimpressed.

I would say the chicken balls are nice salt and pepper chips compared to competitors not so great. Also on the chicken balls there should be an option on which sauce because I had to buy another sauce as I didn’t sweet and sour ultimately wasting the other sauce .

We ordered Chicken Szechuan, Special Szechuan, House Chow Mein and King Prawn Fried Rice, all were really tasty, and big portions. We had a bit of a wait, but they were busy. Free prawn crackers.

Food is a 10/10 every time I will never order elsewhere for Chinese.

Very unusual to have a poor experience with this restaurant. However, after an hour delay the food did not live up to expectations either. It was not exactly what we ordered and the cucumber with the duck starter was hard, inedible, and discarded.

It was late and almost completely cold, prawn crackers were stale from being being sealed in a warm bag too long. Both Rice and Chips tasted like they were reheated from being cooked yesterday. Really disappointed. We usually have such a good meal from here and this was in aid of my partner’s birthday. It was such a shame!

Ordered crispy beef in peking sauce, but got ordinary beef instead 🙁 so didn't enjoy as usual, 1st time in 3 years the order was wrong 😑

There is a reason that the Rising Sun is labeled a Local Hero, well there are many reasons if I am honest but here are just a few. My order was delivered early, the food was perfectly hot and boy was it delicious. The Rising Sun is my "go to" for Chinese.

Always amazing, the best Chinese I won’t go anyway always so accommodating if you want to swap little parts of the dish or add extra flavouring. So so good couldnt reccomend more

Excellent food, on time. The pork with green pepper and black bean sauce was delicious, and the fried king prawns were the highlight. Portion sizes were decent and the most reasonable prices in the area.

Food was OK but nothing special. Did get free prawn crackers which was nice touch. Probably wouldn't order from here again.

We have always like the Rising Suns food and have been ordering g from they for a few years but, the last order came wrong and I called them to sort it out, I was told it would be another hour for this happen, meaning we had to eat our meal in two parts. Concluding this was a one off, we ordered again this evening. Big mistake! Every item, we believe, was reheated, dry and over all unpleasant. Sadly, we won’t be ordering from here again

Didn’t get our crispy seaweed for the third time with the appetisers. Gutted.

Food arrived luke warm at best in plastic containers, food tasted wierd- horrible aftertaste, so it all went in the bin. Small portions too. New ownership? After many lovely meals from here, won’t be ordering again.

This is the third time I have had a Rising Sun since the change and it will be the last. Dishes were tasteless, salt and pepper chips resembled cardboard with no proper crisp or flavour and the amount of meat/fish seems to have decreased per portion. All in all, I am very dissatisfied and will be going else where in the future.

This is by far one of the worst Chinese i’ve ever had. It tasted like all the food had been cooked in fish oil? everything just tasted strongly of fish, the chips had been reheated they was very dry, i asked for my house special fried rice dry and it come drenched in what i could only think to be fish oil. Will never order again from here

We have used this takeaway for years. They are always early with deliveries. The food is fresh and hot. Similar local takeaways are overpriced and the food is not always delivered on time. The Rising Sun is the best Chinese takeaway locally.

Really good food and really friendly service

I use this restaurant a lot and normally things are good but this time. Food took over an hour to arrive, was barely warm, liquid leaked in the bag covering the chips and had a dish missing. Called the restaurant and they bought the missing dish out but 15 mins after we’d already eaten the ‘warm’ food. Not a great experience today I’m afraid.

Lovely food but every delivery is late by a minimum of 30 min and we always order 2 hours in advance if not more - poor time management - tonight 55 min later than the order arrival time

Partner and I have tried all the Chinese takeaways and this is the best out of those in Mountsorrel. Best for price for taste and quantity. We’ve never had a bad experience from them and would recommend.

Waited 2 hours, food arrived cold. Driver slung the bag over his shoulder with no thought about the food i had paid for. Never again, awful just awful.
