Staying in Lincoln. From Dartmouth in South Devon. Heard about the sign of the fish so had to try them. Best fish and chips I've tasted both fish( light crispy batter) and chips 1st class. Far better than posh fish & chips shops in South Devon. What a fantastic price. Quality products. Well done to the staff who served me with a smile. I will return

Chips are not greasy, lovely and crisp. Cosy courtyard to eat alfresco.

Visited here today 27/7/24 , wow not only amazing haddock & chips / gravy on top for hubby but lovely place to sit in the sunshine with helpful staff who couldn't have been more helpful & friendly ,we will 100% visit again from grimsby.

I wish the poorer classes commenting below would stop complaining about the prices. So many Lincoln types expect something for nothing. Do they not realise the cost of fuel for the trawler to go catching fish and it's running costs not to mention the cost of gas and electricity also frying medium etc etc. that is putting the existence of chippies in peril. If you can't afford it then get used to using a food bank and stop your menstrual fatuous diatribes and spend your Universal Credit more wisely.

we do not go to lincoln often, but we do enjoy the fish and chips.we have never had a bad meal. staff polite. thankyou to all staff. see you again next month.

Nice chips but quite expensive for a small portion. Very abrupt service from the young girl serving. ‘What do you want? Cash or card?’ - that was the entire conversation delivered in a very brusque manner.

Still going strong as still as good as it was in 1789 or whenever it was the shop opened. It feels like an institution in Lincoln. Perfectly cooked fish and chips in a proper traditional shop.

Been coming to this chippy since a little girl with my dad.and I'm 53 years old.remember it being on Broad Gate years ago and dad if alive would be 104 years old.only place I will go to for chich and fips with scrumps a d mushy peas.

I came for a chippy at 4:30:01 and they were shut. Completely ruined my day. What buisness even shuts at that time of day in this day and age? Never going again.

We ordered the fish and chips meal which is good value. The haddock can be made with or without skin and has light a fluffy batter which reminds me of funnel cakes/elephant ears. Service is very quick. Upstairs is tight and has a slanted floor. Come here for a good fish and chips. Curry is much better than the gravy here.

My friend and I had a lovely meal, staff very friendly, outside area all ready for the summer, we will visit again when we visit Lincoln.

Without a doubt the best fish and chips in Lincoln. I have been going here for so many years and the quality is always fantastic. The food is always very fresh and very tasty. We can’t go into Lincoln without getting a portion of chips from here!

I've eaten here, a few times over the years, my daughter & I decided, on a day in Lincoln, to celebrate our joint birthday, we decided to have lunch here again! Best fish & chips, we've ever eaten, going to bring my fish & chip loving partner for a treat very good price too.

Tbh I won't be revisiting the chips were so thin they were verging on a chippy equivalent of French fries and they were so soft that by the time I got to the railway, they were close to mush.

Having been here a couple of times now, I would highly recommend this place. There’s a takeout area in the front and a restaurant area in the back and upstairs. The staff were lovely and the the food great. The haddock is a good size, covered in a light but still crunchy batter. The batter is amazing. The chips are cut slightly thinner than you normally find in a chippy but it lends to a good balance of fluffy potatoes and crisp edges. If this is the food that is sent out consistently then it would definitely be up there as one of my favourite chip shops so far.

NEVER eat in ! We got small chips with peas and gravy an small sausage chips and curry with 2 x bad instant coffees and waited ages (I think they forgot about us) and it cost £20 😳 also there was a bogie on one of the napkins.

The only real issue I had with this fish and chip shop was the several stands of long blonde and black hair my 6 year old daughter found in her chips. Service was quick and precise but the chips were floppy and semi raw. Overal next time will be a pass from me.

The sign says that it is the oldest fish shop in Lincolnshire. I don’t know about that for sure, but I do know that they are certainly one of the very best.

The best fish and chips in the country in my opinion.

Only a small dining room but the food is excellent. We had haddock, chips and mushy peas. The fish was delicious with just the right amount of batter, the chips were perfectly scooked and the mushy peas properly prepared nd not from a tin. Generous portions served by a friendly staff. Excellent vakue for money and I recommend a visit when you are in Lincoln.

Great fish and chips. Freshly cooked, excellent quality, and value for money. Friendly staff and good service in pleasant surroundings. Needed to share a table at first, because it was a busy time, but staff explained that as we entered. It wasn't a problem for us or the person we shared with.

DO NOT EAT HERE! went in this week .. fish was under cooked , chips cold in the middle .. in my curry sauce i found a dark black hair. while i was eating i was sat down stairs it was ridiculously cramped and the waitresses kept bumping into my chair while i was eating the overly priced food. just to top off my awful experience i overheard the waitresses talking about eachother and saying rude things and swearing .. i’ve been in here a couple of times and know there waitresses names . i think it was very unprofessional and these waitresses need a talking to and a lesson on how to be professional in a work place. i heard the “owner” looked very mardy and not approachable at all . i noticed the floor was dirty and pots were towering over the sink . VERY UNHYGIENIC!!! this place needs an inspection.

Brilliant & friendly service, the fish is wonderfully fried. However, the chips are thin, more like fries, rather than the traditional (crispier) type.

Super little Fish & Chip shop with fish to rival the best we have eaten, all their Haddock is fresh delivered from Grimsby daily, Batter beautifully light and not greasy, excellent value for money Meal Deal including large Haddock & Chips, with your choice of Peas, Baked Beans, Gravy or Curry Sauce plus Bread & Butter and a hot or cold drink just £13.23, brilliant! Excellent service only waited about ten minutes and everything freshly cooked and piping hot, really delicious, will definitely call again when we’re in Lincoln Best Julie

Sat in the restaurant downstairs very small and cramped. 2 of 3 people serving were lovely other one quite rude. Expensive £23 for 2 people. Curry sauce was dripping off the plate when it came. Chips were tiny

Quality food Lots of seats, would've had to wait 25 minutes for a vacant table downstairs, not easy for people with disabilities to go upstairs The staff are very helpful tho

I have used this chippy many times and would have recommended previously, but yesterday had the most awful chips from here,,you can’t even call them chips they were inedible bits! You’re only as good as the last order!

Really good fish and chips upstairs (and boy, they are steep windy stairs !) at this tucked away restaurant behind the chip shop. Everything was fresh and the batter on the fish rather tasty. Nothing pretentious - all just good. Expensive for the area but worth every penny. Nice welcoming staff. Beware - if you have movement issues, then the stairs may be a real problem !

Service was poor as being served by school girls from what I could see got our order wrong we had to ask for sugar won't be going back no taste in the food.

This fish and chip shop was one of the best in Lincoln under the old owners the two fit blonde ladies. But the new ones are rubbish. In fact the only two good things about this place now was the glass 🍸 of coke and the young waitress she was unfailingly kind she was doing the orders she was cleaning she was serving customers. She was even sweeping the stairs when I got up to go down to pay. For her services alone she gets 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. For her kindness 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. For her duty of care 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. For herself 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟. She deserves to be apart of a better work environment than the one she's working in. There was no action from anyone but her. I would not say its a fantastically awesome chip shop 🏪 now. Its rubbish go try it yourselfs.

Nice fresh chips, but sadly the fish was greasy, overcooked and rubbery. Skin on, bones in and obviously previously frozen. Peas were lumpy with hard bits in. At almost £13 for a take out meal with a drink it wasn't cheap either.

Best chips by far. Traveled all the way from Manchester for scampi and chips. (From Lincoln originally) really clean. Good service. Used to visit here being a kid. Great to cone back. Happy memories with family.

Went on Sunday at 3pm and it was shut, despite their opening times stating otherwise. I was extremely hungry at the time.

I sat in the restaurant area. It is small and could fit at 6-7 people from what I could see. Despite its size, it had lovely atmosphere and was incredibly clean. The service was polite and personal. This may have been because I was the only one sat. The food hit a high standard and everything looked fresh. The fries were clearly different to normal takeaway fish and chip shops. In a good way though. All condiments provided with decent utensils. Definitely go here for a quite high class fish and chips. Don't bring too many people though.

As always I had a very good meal, fish-chips and mushy peas plus a good mug of tea. Can't beat it as it was a plate full. Will call again when I'm next in town

Got a pensioners special, it was huge, great value for money.

Great service and great meal. The shop is however small so waiting outside is something that will happen. There is a a rat in option but on this occasion we did not use. There is disabled access to the take away area. Also great jokes on there outside boards kept my little one amused till lunch was ready.

Usually nip in once a fortnight or so for a cone of chips for a lunchtime treat. Today I had their fish for the first time in my many years living here and honestly it was the best battered fish I've ever had. Blumming delicious.

I was 5 years old when I had my first fish and chips from sign of the fish 20 years later I'm still coming here getting the same order fish chips and mushy peas, and every time I have been since I was a boy has been fantastic there has never been a problem with the meal the way its made makes me feel close to home

Decided to have a day in Lincoln and came across Sign of the fish by chance, so glad we did! Had fish chips and mushy peas twice. We asked for the skin to be taken off which was no problem whatsoever. As a yorkshireman I consider my self to be fussy and a bit of a conisour as far as fish & chips are concerned, these were excellent and I am happy to recommend.

Really nice fish and chips, but quite pricey. It was £9.30 for regular fish and chips and a breadcake which seemed a lot for just a takeaway. The fish also still had the skin on it which may upset some folk. Tasted very fresh and top quality and will definitely go there again when visiting the area. 10/10.

Great place, they offer good quality meals to in with and a nice menu to eat on the go, just a shame that the prices have steaderly risen.

All I can say is I'm not impressed and I'm choosing not to eat there when I visit my mother in Lincoln which is once a month because she is in a care home

Small place but served a freshly cooked meal in minutes. Plenty of nice chips and a good sized fillet of haddock. Batter was very good and all cooked perfectly. Prices good value and definitely recommend a visit
