Siew May Take Away in Teignbridge

Looked on Tripadvisor for good takeaway near Dawlish Warren and Siew May came up. We weren’t disappointed, the food as great. Large portions. If ordering for children, I would ask if one is enough for two. I ordered 2 chow mein specials (No.17) for an 11 and 10 year old, and one meal between them would have been enough. The kitchen is open and visible so you can see your food being prepared. All spotlessly clean, staff wearing clean whites. The lady who took our order was very welcoming with a lovely smile. Very quick service. Satnav does get you there, although I drove past it and had to go round again! I think it’s worth a visit.

Amazing food. Will use again. Like that you can see food being cooked. Staff had clean and smart uniforms on. Very refreshing

Tried this Chinese takeaway whilst on Holiday. They do not deliver so we went and picked up our meals. Phoned up and ordered 8 meals plus a few sides. The menu is as expected, the guy on the phone was pleasant and repeated the order. 20 mins for the order arrived on time and the food was ready. You can see the Chefs preparing the food inside the kitchen which looked very clean. The food was hot, tasty and plenty of it. Would definitely recommend it if you are in Dawlish.

I’ve used siew may for 30 years and it’s always been the best! Recently food has gone right down hill, it tastes gross, no flavour, tastes cheap, and their prices have gone up so much I’m so disappointed it’s always been the best…. Why change how you do things now! They’ve changed their supply for cheap crap and you can tell the difference! Won’t be going there again sadly! I recommend teignmouth Chinese and they deliver bonus! On the post I’ve had to put 1 star as won’t let you post without and that’s generous giving 1….

Was supposed to be having a romantic Valentines meal out, but walked out of the restaurant in disgust, and returned home and got a take away. We have never used Siew May before, but their food was hot and tasty. The staff were so helpful as I have dairy allergies and nothing was too much trouble for them looking at the allergy information they have. Lots of vegan choices on the menu, Great value for money, will be our regular go to take away from now on.

The half crispy duck is really very good; sweet and sour crispy prawns were excellent and a generous portion size; beef with bamboo shoots was well flavoured. Enjoyed it all so will definitely order again.

We eat from this takeaway a few times a year, when we holiday locally in Dawlish Warren. The service is always superb. When you collect your order, the staff are always immaculately dressed and friendly. You can see the whole operation of their open plan kitchen, prepping and cooking. Setting the benchmark for quality, and proud of the operations to make it mark of their reputation.. We just fed 9 family members and they all loved it, as always.. Great food and excellent value.. Exactly how to manage and run a food outlet… 10/10

Been going to this take away for 20 plus years food has always been spot on. Ordered last night and we will not be going back food was cold and not very nice at all. What a waste of £40

Nice special curry and rice. Prawn crackers crispy and fresh. But they seem to want, even when quite, to rush out food. Pancake roll cold on the inside. Which explains illness last week. Disappointing. But will order rest of menu but poor on pancake cold roll.

Well, have had a good meal, but a not so good takeout. What is happening here? This is getting to the point, where no consistency, that our regular visit will have to cease.....shame!

After the last few visits the quality has turned back for the worse I will not be returning. Had sweet and sour which was nicely cooked and as per normal but the chicken with beansprouts was only three quarters full, nice sauce but the chicken you got jaw ache as it was as tough as old boots. Worse dish was the duck with mushrooms, it was in a horrid bright red watery sauce and there was just three pieces of fairly shrived up duck and everything else were mushrooms, the sauce also tasted odd but nobody was ill . Also nobody enforcing the mask rules in the takeaway and a chap asked how much longer was he going to have to wait for his food only to be told Don't know Mate. Such a shame as the new owners have destroyed the goodwill built up over the years by the old owners

Was a bit shocked at beef curry colour ( very red) but was absolutely delicious staff very friendly and very quick to get meal ready. Highly recommend

We were a little bit concerned having heard that the takeaway had recently changed hands and wasn't as good. Well we'd disagree. It's just as nice and has some nicer things and others aren't as good. The meat was proper chunks which was great and the flavours were lovely. Only downside is the sauces were a bit runny for our liking but definitely still the best Chinese takeaway in Dawlish.

Visited July 2020 and what a great meal.Tried all the takeaways in Dawlish and Dawlish Warren and this is one of the best.

Normally, I would be very happy with the food and service here. The previous owners were spot on with service and food quality. Since the new owners took over, again, nothing to complain about. But, my fiancee nearly choked on a sharp piece of plastic, that was in with the prawn crackers! Size of a finger nail, almost triangular. The corner of something. Made us check everything else we ordered before we dare eat it. This was a bit of a let down, as we were enjoying out meal up to this point.

Once the best in the west, but sadly gone from grand to bland. I’m afraid we won’t be returning in a rush

No problem with the takeaway, spare ribs in particular were excellent, so tender the meat and a great sauce, went early when they were not busy

We have been regulars at Siew May for years, they were always the best Chinese takeaway in the area by far but not any more. There has been a change of management/ ownership and it has not been a change for the better. The service used to be friendly and efficient, last night it was distant and actually verging on rude, taking phone orders in a busy kitchen shouldn’t mean the caller shouting down the phone to make themselves heard! The tutting and eye rolling when paying was an interesting touch. Unfortunately the food did not rescue the situation, too salty by far, luke warm and the individual dishes have lost the clarity of flavour and quality of ingredients or presentation of old. We will not be back I’m afraid!

My wife has used them again and said that the food was back to its normal self so it looks like the problems highlighted on my last review has been ironed out. Crispy beef was crispy and all dishes were hot and an acceptable standard,

After a disastrous evening In a so called pub we decided to go and get a Chinese take away BIG MISTAKE, we don’t live here but we’re here in September and used the take away then and the food was fantastic, it now seems like it’s been taken over by someone else and the food is bland and no where as good as in September so definitely won’t be using it again . When we were waiting for food another customer came in and was returning food that they weren’t happy with either. There is no where on the shop front telling you it’s new people .

Popped down last night for a takeaway, crispy beef was soggy beef and was so chewy that it was inedible and was in the thinest sauce I have ever had. Sweet and sour had been left in the fryer that little bit too long and was tough, special fried rice was cold. The spare ribs and chow Mein were OK to good. The takeaway has been sold and they are seriously unmanned with just two cooks, one packer and two taking the orders, no wonder there are job adverts on the door. It was poor service as well, rung the order in at 18.10 for a 18.30 pickup, food wasn't ready until 19.00hrs. To his credit though when I took the crispy beef back there was a no quibble refund and he was far too generous in refunding the entire meal. I will give it another go as they were busy but they need to get better as the goodwill built up over the years by the previous owners (despite the odd bad dish) will surely melt away. The disorganization last night made a few people come in and then leave without placing an order why I was there.

I think this takeaway has changed hands recently the food is very good, the crispy chilli beef is a must, their specials are also excellent

Siew May has always been our preferred choice of Chinese in town. We’ve had twice from here in the last 6 months and have been left disappointed on both occasions. We found the food to be bland and the organisation amongst the staff cooking dreadful. My partner went into collect after the 10 minutes given on the phone and had to wait nearly another 10 minutes for a portion of chips which should be easy. Collection only here is also troublesome as parking can be difficult (not always helped by the neighbours). Perhaps we have just had a couple bad experiences recently but won’t be returning any time soon.

My husband and me were going to go out for a meal at our usual place and then decided to cancel and order a chinese meal instead. Looked up chinese takeaway near me and came across this one. We placed our order and went to collect it, it was well packaged, hot and the meals were fantastic. So we will definitely be coming back again!! Dawlish Warren

I tried their Peking Duck & it was delicious, one of the best I have had. I'm not sure what their secret recipe is, but I highly recommend it!

Having been put of Chinese Takeaway by a number of very poor quality takeouts (you know the ones - way too salty, awful radioactive-looking sauces, mediocre but expensive food bulked up with far too many onions etc...), we took the plunge and got a takeout here on the basis of a friend's recommendation. We were very pleasantly surprised by the absolutely splendid service and a very good takeaway. Have since been back three times and always good. Recommended.

I used this takeaway for the first time and must say not impressed by the fòod. You can see all the food being cooked by the chefs, which is good and the kitchen is clean. My problem being is that the meat is processed and not nice. The meals are also totally overpriced, £22 for 2 takeaways. I would not recommend at these extortionate prices.

Had a takeaway from here. It’s always nice to see an open kitchen and see your food cooked. The food was fresh and enjoyable and would go back again but only gave it 4 out of 5 as we’ve had tastier Chinese elsewhere but would be happy to go back if in the area.

You know what goes into the food here as you can watch them cook it, and its seriously good food. You can't please everyone and its a shame that some previous reviewers love to hate. Try it out, you won't regret it.

Terrible overpriced food. We had a chicken chow mein and spicy chicken curry. All the chicken tasted like it had been boiled, very bland. Total waste of money.

As above, we use this take away all the time. The food is consistently good and is prepared very quickly. Clearly in holiday time it takes a little longer but it’s worth it. Will continue to use it

Popped in for a takeaway despite the last average one and found it had got worse instead of better, duck and mushrooms was dry and chewy, crispy beef was soggy beef and so chewy it went into the bin. Only dish which was OK was the sweet and sour

Putt the prices up last month and the quality has gone down, had a takeaway on Saturday and it was very busy early resulting in mix ups on orders for some that I saw as I waited for 30 minutes. Got home and the crispy beef was no longer crispy but had changed to chewy because the dish had obviously been standing for awhile. The spare ribs were very poor, lots of muscle and little meat and what was there was hard, not good at all and largely thrown in the bin. Special fried rice was very dry but the sweet and sour was the usual standard. With the prices going higher average cost is well over £7 a dish and quality is dipping I for one won't be thinking of them automatically on a weekend anymore

staying just up the road on a short break, it was a choice of 2 takeaways, choose this one as its menu was better, what a decision, food is cooked in front of you, portions huge, flavor excellent, if anything ordered too much, staff very friendly and happy,back again down this way soon and i know where i will be going.

The food is all cooked fresh in front of you, the cooks always look busy and efficient, the food is good and tastes fresh.

Read the reviews and seemed to have better reviews than other Chinese takeaways in the area. all I can say is that the food was bland and expensive. it was busy and seemed popular with locals so maybe that was why the food wasn't great. Hong Kong chicken was the worse I've ever had. sadly won't be back

This is definitely the best Chinese takeaway in the area, a little difficult to park near, but the food is great, looks spotlessly clean and all cooked in an open kitchen in front of you. Will be using a lot more in the future.

First impressions of Siew May; you see straight into a clean, tidy and organised kitchen, with orders going out left and right. The menu is extensive and the food myself and my family had was all excellent. Nothing was too salty, the flavours were well balanced and the portion sizes were far better than the other Chinese we went to. The people at the desk were kind and polite, and the food was prepared fresh very quickly.

It's without doubt when it comes to takeaway, every night is different and everyone's taste differ too. However I can not rate Siew May higher. It is a fantastic take away that serves lovely, fresh food from a clean and professional environment. I would particularly recommend the beef curry and the special chow mein. The takeaway does close on a Tuesday and earlier in the evenings than most and it does not deliver, which shouldn't put you off after you have tasted the food. We eat from him once every few weeks.

We’ve been getting Chinese food from this takeaway for years, it is consistently excellent, my family and I have never had a bad meal, clean, friendly, and efficient service.

We went for our tea the food was lovely and the staff were very friendly we have used here several times and always been satisfied

Got a large takeaway from here whilst staying at the local place in Dawlish. Although they don't deliver I called and asked how long it would take to make and be ready and she said 10 mins which was perfect! So we drove and collected the takeaway, we ordered when we arrived and just had a enough time for a quick pint across the road in the Lansdowne! It took 12 mins from ordering to collecting! It's nice authentic Chinese food, not the best I've had and not as nice as our local in Hampshire but it was really good and if in the area again I would happily go back.

Este es un gran pequeño para llevar que he usado durante años. Buenas porciones. Gran Degustación de ternera al curry con arroz frito o pollo Chow me en que habitualmente tienen, pero un completo menú preparado rápidamente. Llamamos en nuestra elección de la comida estaba lista menú en 10 minutos. Ah, sí, gente agradable, así siempre educado y te saludan con una sonrisa.

La comida aquí es muy barato, probablemente el más barato de China en Dawlish. La única cosa que es una mierda de este lugar es que no ofrecen la entrega, que creo que haría de hacer crecer su negocio, especialmente con lo barato que es.

I ordered a takeaway from here last week and as the food was being prepared one of the kitchen staff sneezed quite heavily. I pondered whether I should ask for a refund but as someone else was waiting for the meal I hoped that the food I had ordered would be ok. Both myself and the other person who ate that meal have now had a stinking cold for a week. Thanks for that! I will never be going back there again!

Siew may never fails to deliver the food is always tasty and more importantly hot for a takeaway food

We found this takeaway through Trip Adviser while on holiday in Dawlish. Four of us ordered our takeaway. It was freshly cooked in front of us by the chefs in the spotlessly clean open kitchen right behind the counter. The prices were reasonable. The portion sizes were good and when we got to eat it the taste was excellent. I was very impressed by the whole experience and I wish this takeaway as near to my home as I would be using it on a regular basis. Very highly recommended if you are in the area.

We were away on holiday in Exeter and visited powder-ham castle we fancied a Chinese and found this takeaway on trip advisor nearby.We had special fried rice, this was really good full of mixed meat and prawns, light and not greasy. King prawn in vegetables which had plenty of large tiger prawns and a nice sauce. Soft noodles and chicken balls for the kids which they enjoyed. Wife had honey pepper chicken she did say it was very peppery but still eat it. Prawn sesame toast 3 big triangle pieces which again was tasty. Prawn crackers. Really pleased we picked this takeaway if we're in the area again we will use you.

The Siew May is the best Chinese takeaway you will have!! We've been going for years and so have our families, we have never had a bad dish and the owners are extremely friendly! Their curries are amazing and everything is cooked right in front of you. It's clean, always hot and freshly cooked. We moved to Bristol and cannot find a Chinese that matches the quality of siew may. Very highly recommended!!

Popular Chinese takeaway situated down side street in Dawlish. We had the set menu for two: prawn crackers, special fried rice, BBQ ribs, sweet & sour chicken balls, king prawns with cashew nuts. Unfortunately, we couldn't get through it all - was actually enough for three people. Good standard Chinese meal.

This takeaway opened many years ago, a lovely feature is that the food is cooked in front of you in an open kitchen so you can see all that goes on.The people are friendly and the food is just fantastic, I have had some great Chinese takeaways but Siew May is definitely the best!

Great flavours. Never greasy! Maybe a little more expensive but worth it!! And you can watch the chefs while you wait. Never disappoints.

Popped in at about 6pm on a Sunday night and the place was busy with locals and holiday makers alike. Portions were a good size, service was fast. You could see the kitchens were clean and the staff cared about what they were sending out. The kids were delighted it all came in a "little house" box. Food was great. We had veg noodles, egg fried rice, veg spring rolls, prawn toast, salt and pepper tofu and salt and pepper squid plus prawns in oyster sauce. Free prawn crackers and service with a smile.

Best takeaway in Dawlish .Great selection on the menu. Food always hot and tasty. Friendly family business. you will find them at the top of the town, just off the Strand.

My first holiday in dawlish ended with a traditional last night takeaway so after searching the web I found seiw may takeaway through trip advisor and again you come up trumps the food was outstanding I went for the good old favourite beef curry and it was the best I have ever had thank you. To be honest all the food we had was A1 and the service was just as good the only thing I can say is try it you won't be disappointed. Next time I'm in dawlish I know where I'm going. THANK YOU

Hi Happy New Year. Had one of my normal meals.Beef chow m.with sweet and sour king prawn balls.egg fried rice. Yes that's all mine.Sweet prawns fresh love the sauce. They also do a hot sauce as well. Hot and different. P's sorry to see about the people who didn't like their prawns...

So disappointing. Our king prawn dish had no sauce and no flavour what so ever. The prawn balls were also tasteless with some of the black vein, which as we all know is the digestive tract, left in. Completely disgusting, who wants to eat that.After a few stodgy, tasteless mouthfuls we scrapped the whole lot in the bin and made some cheese on toast, yum yum.Save your hard earned cash and cook a tasty homemade meal.

We have used this take away for the last 15 years and have found it to be excellent, it maintains a high standard. The food is of good quality, the service is great and the prices are in line with other take aways. A top quality take away where the food can be seen cooking. We have returned again and again, highly recommended!

Chinese food is my favourite cuisine, so I have experienced many restaurants and take aways. I feel very lucky to live in Dawlish where the standard of take aways is high for all cuisines. Mei Lai is good, but Siew May is quite simply the best chinese take away I have ever been too...anywhere. If you like chinese food, you have got to go here.

well what can I say about siew may family run Chinese shop.simple its the best ada and family are always happy cheerfully and friendly.good value for money and always cooked well. never ever had a bad meal from here.great Chinese and there bbq sauce is to die for

Hi all, as we have tried all other Chinese take-away's and restaurant's they are never consistent enough on regular visits.Also they can taste of very little,siew may are the best we have tried and are very consistent to date,the best we would recommend in Dawlish,you can also see the food being freshly prepared and cooked in full view.yes I would recommend only reason for 4 star as there always room to improve but no complaints from me .

Moved to Dawlish end of January and have had a dish from here every month. We tend to phone and pick up. First class service with a smile. I like that you have full view of the kitchen and chefs working their magic. The food is always piping hot and really tasty and doesn't appear full of MSGs. Slghtly more expensive than our last local but worth every penny.

We returned to Siew May after many years of using the 'other place'. Looking on line to see whether that place was open we found the TA reviews. Rather than confirm them we chose to go back to Siew May and we're glad we did. They've improved kitchen and menu since we were last there. Very good food and good value. We'll be back!

Best takeaway in dawlish never had a bad meal from here always hot and tasty cooked in front of you while you wait so you know it is freshly cooked .

We've got a few Chinese takeaways in Teignmouth, but I prefer to drive to Dawlish because it's so good...Never had a bad meal from here, will keep going back.ATB,J.

Great food . You can see it being cooked as you wait . Spotless and clean , have seen all of kitchen and other parts of the building so know it is clean and is not just for show front of house.

Really good quality food, great service. A top quality take away, food is excellent all round. Food can be seen cooking so you can watch if you like. Highly recommended, would return again and again.
