Royal China in Teignbridge

Takeaway again! A regular order for takeaway, we use Royal China when we are home at the weekend, so no votes on atmosphere. The staff are always pleasant and take orders quickly and delivery usually arrives within 45 mins ( we are in Bishopsteignton) and the drivers are always cheerful. The food is always hot and the taste and quality superb. We have always enjoyed the meals and would throughly recommend Royal China. 5stars.

Visiting my daughter and family after many years, wanted to get us all a lovely meal to enjoy together, my daughter said that this is a place they use and like, spent over 50£ for 5 meals and accompaniments and a starter, it came cold chips in a lidless tubs with a paper bag stuffed on top, every meal was cold and had to be put in the microwave , my beef chow mein was the worst I've ever had EVER and was that full of Pepper/ not chilli or spices, it was inedible, never had a chow mein anywhere like it, personally if it was my call I would of taken the whole lot back and asked for my money back. Utterly disappointed and spoilt the whole celebration of the family having a special meal together.

Easily one of the best Chinese's in town, service and delivery are always perfect. Food is always delicious, but I have to take away a star for the noodles, the noodle dishes always leave me disappointed, which is a shame considering that's usually the best part of a Chinese.

Royal china has been mine and my family’s favourite take away for years. The food is delicious and really good quality. The customer service is always lovely. We’ve never had an issues and couldn’t recommend Royal China enough!

I go to royal china every week for a Chinese takeaway, cannot resist the outstanding tradition Chinese food with wonderful and helpful staff, I am pretty sure I have tried everything on the menu and there’s not one dish what I would fault, all perfectly balanced and delicious, there’s many Chinese in the area of newton abbot but Royal china is definitely the best and worth every penny!! Delivery is always on time and always hot, I don’t know how they do it!! 5 stars from me

Have used this restaurant whilst on holiday for many years.. unfortunately today we had the worst takeout experience ever and the prices have gone through the roof .. have to say not worth the money for the awful food

Damned expensive for what it was! Half empty container of crispy beef, veg noodles, 19 quid! OK, it was tasty, but it was also a con. You can get a really good sit down meal for this in a restaurant!

Well had a takeaway tonight and i can only say it was awful. The salt and chilli prawns were just cooked in a lot of batter and tasteless and nothing like we have had before . The squid and beansprouts was ok . Expensive AND THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED TO SELL FOOD LIKE IT .PLUS WHEN YOU COLLECT THE FOOD THE GIRL IS BEHIND SEALED PLASTIC SCREENS WHICH IS MADNESS AS COVID IS LONG GONE HOPEFULLY. WILL NOT BE RETURNING

Ordered a takeaway so can't comment on restaurants' atmosphere.but food was ready to pick up at time specified. Food was realy nice and well worth paying for

Everything was watery, chicken was tough. Chowmain was sloppy and wet. Chicken curry was very average. Definitely given an upset stomach. Won't be going again

Usually use the best Chinese in town lucky star unfortunately it wasn't open on a Tuesday so opted for the next best reviewed one how it's the second best is beyond me the beef was rubbery the chicken was strange like it was over cooked and all stringy and tough to eat the sauce on the curry was terrible really disappointed won't be using this again avoid the chicken chow mein Beef curry dishes awful worst Chinese I ever had through it in the bin where it belonged could tell it was cheap meat and cheap ingredients all round absolutely disgusting avoid at all costs

the greatest best chinese around its top class cooked to absolute perfection .spotless clean and very desirable ask newton abbot spotted .they are a credit to newton abbot every dish i can tell is cooked by a chinese chef with a lifetime of experience .

We had a great meal, the food was plentiful and lovely. If we come back to the area on a break again we will definitely be revisiting.

We had given up trying to get a good chinese and a friend recommended Royal China so we thought we would try. My chicken chow mein was lovely, noodles perfect, lots of bamboo shoots & water chesnuts, which i love. My partners chicken curry and egg fried rice was really good. The only reason was not 5 stars is because processed chicken was used in both dishes 🙄 5 stars for the delivery driver very polite and friendly

Best Chinese food I've had! Always excellent food, and the service is great too.

This is the second time I’d got a takeaway for the family. The first one was good but sadly this was not so great. I had special fried rice and the duck and chicken (I think that was what it was) was laid on the top in large slices. All were completely dried out. I had to tear them by hand but gave up. The special fried rice was however lovely. My daughters chicken chow neon looked good but the first piece of chicken was a strange flavour and taste so she was reluctant to continue. My sons sweet and sour battered chicken was good and I the left overs the following day. Unlikely to go again in a hurry. Yes I could complain but we’d got home and really would take our custom elsewhere. We’ve yet to find a reliable Chinese takeaway; living in Paignton for many years we used one takeaway for nearly 30 years so the bar is high, Delivery was 1.5 hour wait and walk in was about 10 minutes. Felt it appeared a bit too quickly but I’m not sure how they prioritise. Maybe a one off but I’ll cast my net elsewhere in the immediate future. Good extensive menu and descriptions. Doesn’t appear to have the restaurant part open so takeaway only I believe.

Called for pick up, was ready in ten minutes. Special curry with chips, 1|4 duck pancakes and special rice. Food was lovely and piping hot, especially the chips. Boy at the counter was very friendly

Our delivery was on time, and the pot of seaweed to the starter was delicious. that was the only positive about the meal. The mixed starter looked good on first sight but it was all over cooked. The chicken and pineapple dish tasted only of onions and the chicken was only just on the right side of cooked, it was very slimy, the special fried rice had slices of dried up meat on top of the rice and was like trying to chew leather. If people consider this to be a good meal they must surely be used to some dreadful meals.

Had the Hong Kong style sweet and chicken far too sweet .plus the young chow fried rice which was egg fried rice with the meat involved bloody awful.

This establishment is described on their website as the Royal China Restaurant. The fascia above the door makes the same claim. Looking inside you will observe a room with tables and chairs. But when enter you find this is blocked off, it's now just a takeaway. The nearby New China Garden has been practising the same imposture for the last two years. I realise grievous harm was done to the hospitality sector by the pandemic. But to continue describing a takeaway as a restaurant after all this time is not only less than honest but is hugely frustrating for holidaymakers who may not have the option, or even the desire, for a takeaway. Surely a case for Trading Standards?

I’ve been getting take out from here for nearly 8 years. The food is the best in the area, but I’m like a stranger going for the first time every week. Surely, you recognise me? Is it really that difficult to get to know your customers? B+ for attainment D- for effort…

First time we have used Royal China and will definitely be using them again. Food excellent and vegetables all crisp and fresh. The delivery was on time and the driver was very polite.

Last night had a takeaway,only complaint was that there was a scant amount of chicken, chilli squid and the scallops( there were about six slivers of scallop) I appreciate the issues with rising prices of everything etc, but this was disappointing.

Tried a few Chinese takeaways in Newton, but none compare to the Royal China, had a special chow mein, it was piping hot, vegetables where crisp to the bite, noodles where perfect, mixed meat excellent and to top it off the barbecue sauce was delicious and complimented the meal, a Couple of pounds more than other takeaways for the same meal but we'll worth it for the quality.

Just this moment had a delivery from here, to my lorry and found me with no problem, the only problem I found was...that I just could not eat it all, superb food and a good delivery driver who found me. They also take card payments over the phone which helps me as I don't carry cash. Your in my phone book just incase I'm down your way again.

A great Chinese, we mostly get takeaway. Delicious every time.

First time ordering from this place and will certainly not be the last, had a selection of meals from spare ribs to chicken curry and wow how big are the bags of prawn crackers,and the chicken balls are to die for.And best of all the food came early and absolutely piping hot never had to reheat a thing which i did from the Chudleigh Chinese which is just 5 mins away.

So impressed!! We decided to treat ourselves to a Chinese, completely not realising that it was a Friday night, and Chinese New year and so it would be super busy. We called our usual takeaway and couldn't get through for over half an hour, and when we did couldn't pay on card as we usually do (about the third time recently that they have said cash only, while I thought we were still preferred to avoid cash during the pandemic!). So I remembered we had a royal china menu popped through our door a few weeks back, and we decided to try them instead, prices were similar so actually worked out a quid or so cheaper, but we paid £2.50 for delivery. We were able to pay on the phone, and got told it will be an hour and a half.... A long wait, but expected based on the day, and they said an hour and a half... And that's exactly what it was... Totally worth the wait and delivery charge, and they have now gained a new regular customer! Every item we ordered was perfect, and both me and my partner went back to the kitchen for more! Very impressive considering how busy they would have been too! Thanks royal china!

Lovely hot food.Beef and mushrooms plenty of beef soft and spicy tomatoes ..chicken Hong Kong style again plenty of chicken and spicy sauce. Noodles and beans shoots tasty.. dont really eat many takeaways but when we look forward to one it's always the Royal China

The best Chinese in the area hands down. The duck with pancakes, is not only a fair price but tastes amazing as well. Will be visiting again and defo telling my friends about this place!

We had a takeaway tonight from here and can honestly say it’s the best Chinese we’ve ever had. I ordered and was told 30mins I arrived to collect, paid and it was bought out to me on time. The staff were all extremely polite, from the person who took the orders the phone to the member of staff who brought it out to me.

We returned to go back and try again as recommended by friends to join them, upon entering it was the same tired state as it was several years ago. I refused to go any further and went for a far superior meal in a rival restaurant. We shall not return.

Decided to have a take away..after not having one since February..So chose Royal China..had the most lovely Chinese ever. Beef and Tomato loads of lovely moist beef.tasty Tomatoes. Sweet and Sour Cantonese style so tasty...mixed noodles and bean shoots.lovely.would eat these on there own...chips were crispy dry yum yum well done Royal China..will be back again soon ..hopefully to use your restaurant when its viable...

This is the best Chinese food in Newton Abbot. Duck is very good, also chicken with ginger and spring onion or chicken satay. Wednesday set menu is excellent value for money. Good atmosphere and decor.

My favourite takeaway, I always go for the duck with pancakes and the king prawn crispy noodles!

We have used Royal China as our 'Go to' restaurant for take away for many years.Imagine my disappointment when our recent meal was one of the worst meals we have ever had! I honestly can't think of anything good to say about it? I can only presume they have had a change of chef, or something. I certainly won't be going back there in a hurry. I will look forward to a response. In the meantime I will need to check out all the local take aways to find a replacement?

Ordered chicken and chips. The chips are strange and very very crispy. And I think the chicken or possibly seagull has lived in the fridge all month, was rock hard and dry,was like an old rubber boot. Dirty food,awful.

Had a lovely meal here. The staff were friendly and very helpful with choosing gluten free options. The restaurant was clean and cosy. Food was excellent. I would definitely recommend a visit.

I'd like every one reading this to ignore any poor comments believe me I've tried many many Chinese and apart from chi in kenton and also one in Barton called wok s this is fabulous my freind ordered chicken balls I tasted one and they were awesome just how the batter should be . Huge chunks of chicken and the sauce was perfect colour and consistency. I had the chowmein it was amazing my son had the duck all of it cooked to perfection please try spotless and lovely people it is without a doubt the best in teignbridge .

I spoke to a wonderful teenage boy who worked on the phone I could describe it as the most wonderful conversion I've ever had in my life, he had blonde lush her and he works on Sundays and I think he should get a pay rise in fact and I would love to come in more often to get treated by nice staff xx

I recently moved to the area and spoke with the young fellas at the takeaway counter, explained that I enjoy a good chinese takeaway and noticed the hygiene rating was 5 and that was the first test passed, now what about the food? He recommended few things and was very friendly and the food was spot on, I now consider this to be my local Chinese. Well done Royal China..

Staff extremely friendly and very quick service. Place is tired and a bit scruffy, could do with an update/modernise/decorate. Food was good, although little more than good takeaway standard in dishes rather than plastic containers. Chicken curry, I see other reviews have noted this as excellent...have to disagree - just a basic takeaway curry and nothing special. Return? Probably not.

Had a lovely meal here tonight - was treated like royalty - staff were extremely friendly and attentive.Food was served in good time and was delicious. We had a large turntable on our table which was a super idea.Restaurant was clean and lovely atmosphere - will definitely return

been eating here for years and it's been the best in newton . went back for a takeaway recently , all the meals were faultless apart from the awful chicken meal i had , more like eating a plate of fat/tripe .. plumped chicken, slimey ,no texture . didn't look,taste or flake like a cooked chicken . gross ... you pay enough for these meals so please use non plumped , fresh chicken . they have offered a refund but safe to say it won't be chicken i try again ! . thankfully the chips were nice or i would've been starving !

Had a gorgeous meal once again this time with my girlfriends family who had never experienced royal china , but they was very happy with the standard of food , didn’t have to wait long for food or drinks was very welcoming ! Me and my girlfriend come here quite often as it’s our favourite place to eat. Very happy

Visited with my Don. Another couple in restaurant who were swearing alot. Management did nothing to manage the swearing. My son is 10 years old. Food was about as standard as supermarkets own brand of Chinese food. Not worth the visit and not worth the value and quality of food

Sunday night. No need to book. Welcoming, friendly service. Amenities portions. Excellent selection of starters and mains. Would recommend Fillet Steak Cantonese. Not waiting, attentive staff, would highly recommend.

The restaurant feels very old and dated and service was poor for the price of the food. I ordered rice and it was forgotten about until half way through our meal. Cost of the drinks well over priced. £4.90 for 2 halves of lemonade.

My hubby & i enjoy the Chinese food of Chicken Chow Mein & Currys/mixed grill, & we will both carry on buying our take away

I'm slowly going through the menue and tonight I chose beef in a black bean sauce, aammaazziinngg! Again, great food which is presented well and always kept hot waiting for my collection. Fully recommended.

I’ve eaten at most Chinese restaurant in the area and I have to say , that royal china is my favourite by far , I came with my girlfriend and the staff and owners our very comforting and lovely , defiantly recommend the Singapore chow mien ! Well 100% be coming back for our next date night out 5 stars from both of us !!!

We came here last Saturday to celebrate our thirteen year anniversary, as had come here before for a work party and remembered the food was good. We were greeted by a young waitress who was very polite and showed us promptly to our table. The restaurant was quite busy, with some sort of hen do type event at the big round table, but we were given a secluded table in the corner as we had requested on the phone, so it was still very romantic despite the other diners enjoying themselves.

Always order from here, normally comes earlier than expected and great food every time.

Turned up to this restaurant and it was completely empty (Saturday 7pm) me and my partner looked at eachother and debated leaving as it was so quiet. We decided to stay anyway and said it may be okay.

In the four years that we have been getting our regular Chinese takeaway, we’ve never had a bad one! The food is always hot and tasted fresh and I would highly recommend. We’ve yet to try a sit down meal though....

Its meal was disgusting all dry not taste.The manager attitude as almost bad as meal .On our complain answer was we are to busy to cook nice meal. Never use this place

Visited Royal China yesterday evening for a friend's birthday meal. All four of us love it here as the food, atmosphere, staff and surroundings are always great. Great for eat in or take away. In our opinion the best Chinese in Newton Abbot's take away alley!

We had a meal on off chance passing through and it turned out to be best Cantonese we’ve had in 20 years. The waiter was a charming young man who was well mannered and even though he mentioned he was new he was attentive and couldn’t do enough. Food was outstanding

Booked a early evening dinner at the Royal China for our party of twenty three. A little apprehensive with respect to the restaurants ability to provide reasonable service due to the size of the group and the early evening clash of their Saturday night takeaway business. This would be be peak time in terms of demand.

We were the only diners on a Thursday evening, the food served was delicious but we could not wait to leave as there appeared to be little or no heating on in the restaurant. Admittedly it was a cold evening but having to put my coat on during a meal out in a restaurant is not ideal. Phone ringing constantly for takeaways so maybe in the winter that is the only way you can enjoy their very nice food.

Woo this place is gorgeous expensive but gorgeous had special fried rice, lemon chicken, spring rolls and bbq sauce and it was the best bbq sauce and lemon chicken we have ever tasted a very nice end to the holiday well done staff

Tried many others over the years but always come back to this take- away. I drive 7 miles to collect my order and i am never disappointed. Best Chinese food in the Bay without a shadow of doubt! 2 favorite dishes are Lamb Pancakes and Salt and Chilly Chicken. The penges munch!

The interior might be somewhat dated and in need of some tlca - but for me the most important aspect for a restaurant is the food and drink - and here the Royal China is excellent. It is fully licensed and offers a large menu choice. The service is attentive and the food simply delicious with generous portions and served quickly. The king prawns in black bean sauce were perhaps the best I have ever tasted. Mind you, the scallops weren't bad either! Will return..
