Yau's Takeaway in Teignbridge

Such kind people taking allergens seriously and providing delicious food! We have come here for years and will continue to! Can recommend the lemon chicken, deep fried shredded beef, sweet and sour prawns, char sui pork, egg fried rice, and duck pancakes of course! They are always so generous with prawn crackers too, cannot wait to come back.

We just to had put on how delicious tonight’s takeaway was. House chow mein, Duck in plum sauce, crispy beef, sweet & sour chicken and crispy seaweed.

My in laws have been using this gem of a Chinese takeaway for 20 years. Even when they lived in areas such as Denbury, Ipplepen and Ogwell, they only used and still use Yau's. We live in Liverton and so Choys of Bovey has been our go to for over 7 years. But, over the last 2-3 months I've been using Yau's and they are now my/our go to Chinese takeaway. Their menu is better than choys, the quality of food better than choys and Yaus is also far superior to the Devonlive Polled No.1 Takeaway that is Mei Wah in Chudleigh. How that got number 1 spot is baffling. It's poor! Anyhoo, Yau's menu is more varied than many Chinese takeaways. Their dishes come with plenty of meat & chunky, crunchy veg. I don't seem to feel as bloated when eating a meal from here. I'm assuming they don't overload their dishes with MSG! And, they do rice noodles (vermicelli) which I love and prefer to the more common egg noodles which are thicker. Customer service at Yau's is brilliant and it is worth the extra few minutes to our journey time from Liverton to Ashburton. Yau's don't need to make no poll. This Chinese takeaway is the best around.

Ordered hot special curry once home it was just curry sauce. I phoned to explain with no apology and said you were only charged for curry sauce..... that's not what I wanted! By time if I drove back there the rest of families meals would have been cold so settled for a bland curry sauce & chips. I suggest who answers the phone to take orders can understand/speak English. Not only that but there selling there second hand clothes on coat hangers in the shop, not for charity for there pocket. Smells like a musky charity shop. Will never order from there again, unclean, and unfriendly! Maybe trading standards should take a look.......

I have been using this takeaway years but lately the quality of ingredients and flavour has unfortunately gone down hill and has as a strong taste and smell of oil. It pains me to complain but they are not what they were a year ago. Seems very hit and miss quality wise.

I use this takeaway more than my local one in the street as I have known the owners for a while now and it's the best for taste and quality.

Absolutely delicious food, definitely recommend coming as I’ve been going here for years, best Chinese around and best Chinese I’ve been to. The food is absolutely delicious full of flavours that marinate in my mouth, the vegetables are beyond fresh.

We use this takeaway every time we are in the area, and food was always of good quality and tasty. We had a takeaway last night, 27/09/2023, and all the food was very bland and tasteless, the chicken in the chow mein was like rubber and again no flavour. Really upset I am writing this review as always found the food on previous occasions to be good. Not sure if it's under new management or they have changed the chef, but I I will not go back again. As said it's a shame as it was good in the past.

Every meal a medal. Crispy squid .. excellent Prawn toast Cantonese ribs Duck & pancakes Chicken fried rice Singapore noodle All excellent. All fresh and exciting.. bit more spice on the squid ..for me .. hey .. minor quibble

It used to be a good takeaway but the last month has seen the quality and flavour go steadily down hill. Overwelming taste of cheap oil. Far better quality elsewhere.

Superb Chines Take away, Good food, well cooked, good portions, reasonably priced . fast and efficient service and best of all Great flavours ! Happy to recommend

The food was first class. Me and my daughter bought a meal for two which would of fed 3 to 4 people for only £24. Recommend it to any food lover.

We ordered here as we were on holiday in the area, very polite service! Our order was quite large but everything was correct! The chicken balls were lovely as were the chips and curry sauce! Only thing that let it down abit was the rice but I would order again.

Having been brought up on authentic Chinese food from restaurants in and around Manchester, it has always been a tall order to find good quality Chinese take out or eat in food in the south West. We went for popular dishes at this establishment to have a true picture of the quality. Unfortunately the hot & sour soup was bland with no heat and the beef with ginger and spring onion had no depth of flavour and the mushrooms, onions and beef all tasted boiled. The sweet and sour chicken was ok, but lacking vegetables. After 22 years of living here my search for my much missed favourite cuisine continues.

Had a great meal at Yau's, went for the vegetarian options which were really nice - especially the Satay. Staff were friendly, food was ready in good time, and it was a great visit. We now go regularly and enjoy it very much for a treat every now and then!

Great hit a tasty food at great prices, we had been to the beech all day and wanted a takeaway. We had a number of dishes and we enjoyed them all. Would recommend

I ordered food this evening for my son and his friend. They had sweet and sour chicken balls. I was really surprised normally the chicken from other take aways doesn't resemble chicken but you could see with this it was good high quality chicken breast and beautifully cooked. Lovely staff as well, they don't like the sauce, just because they prefer savoury, and wanted to swap it for curry sauce and was no problem. I am very impressed I will be a regular now.

It is my birthday and our wedding anniversary today. We had decided to have something from the Chinese to celebrate, it is an occasional treat. I have to say on behalf of my husband (who had chicken and chips!) , how very enjoyable it has been. Everything was lovely. Excellent portions, nicely cooked with fresh veggies. The young lady who served us was so nice too. Thank you everyone, you have helped us have a lovely end to our day. X

Decent Chinese and takeaway food is hard to find in these parts. This is the best one I have found anywhere near Totnes or Dartington. So, its not brilliant, but in the land of the blind the one eyed man is king. And if you want Chinese take out and the options ... do NOT go to Totnes, drive past Buckfastleigh because this isnt much further ... and go here. But ... note: CASH ONLY

Pros: Good variety on the menu, good service, decent portions Cons: Too salty the last couple of visits and it's a little pricey.

For many years Yau's was not good. It changed hands and I was optimistic. Unfortunately it it is now worse. The barbecued spare ribs I ordered today were overcooked, dried out and came without any sauce. They were inedible and i binned them. I will not be going back.

Average food, not bad, but not exceptional

Since it has been under new management, we have eaten on several occasions and I must say a massive improvement. We are vegetarian and food is full of taste and flavour without being greasy or oily, always cosiatant quality. A great addition to eating options in Ashburton

Have tried a few time since being taken over but will be finding a new takeaway! Order never ready on time, food saltly and now it's closed again due to unforeseen circumstances??? I can only imagine why......

What a real disappointment ! The menu has changed quite a bit but the real problem is that the ones which appear to be the same as the last owners are hopelessly different. If only they had taken advice from the last owners and used the same suppliers, things may have been alright, but the changes have really been awful and it grieves me to say so, having been a regular customer practically every week since 2009. I'm afraid that I shall have to find another takeaway for the forseeable future, unless this place has a radical change of mind about what it is offering.

Excellent food. Very fresh with no oil that you can get when biting into battered chicken. Have been several times and not been disappointed.

We used to use this takeaway regularly but it has really gone downhill. Twice in a row there has been something from our order missing. It's too far to go back so we went without. The sweet and sour king prawn is greasy thick batter which is dark in colour and looks and tastes like it has been refried a few times. In the main, the whole meal was tasteless and disappointing.

This was our first visit to this takeaway and certainly our last! The food was appalling and wasted alot of money, dont want to go on too much but lets just say sure they used gravy granules in my dish certainly not chinese bbq sauce! This wasnt our only gripe, just cant wait for Fu Lin to get back!

had a take away one night got home not 5 mins away only to find it was cold,this was not freshly cooked took it back and the girl on the counter said ok he is just cooking up a fresh batch so not cooked to order they wounld'nt give me my money back only offered me another meal and it was still tastless slop not ever going there again'

Llegamos tarde y en la zona se habían quedado para comer algo así que tuvimos que buscar otro relativamente locales. Las opciones eran el fish and chips o el chino, como para llevar el "fish and chips" cerraba la decisión para nosotros.Pedimos pollo, limón 2 crujientes de pollo en salsa cantonesa, simple y una porción de arroz hervido de patatas fritas.Cuando llegamos a casa, nos enteramos de que, por desgracia, uno de los pedidos fue equivocada, 2 de la comida para llevar supuestamente estaban sin verduras pero 3 no tenía verduras, aunque no es un tema de interés.Nos chapada la comida y fuimos a comer, los platos cantoneses fueron vibrantes de color, muy brillante, rojo. rosa El pollo que se suponía que tenía que ser crujientes era algo, el bateador era pasada y bastante enfermizo con el pollo al ser blanda. El pollo en el limón pollo nuevo era blanda y sabor como si hubiera sido preparado con la piel. El pollo en 3 platos era tan pasada todo era metieran. Las patatas fritas eran insípidas y el arroz estaba coaguladas.En general, una terrible experiencia, comer más decepcionante.22 libras de que sobre £18 fuimos directamente a la basura.

The food was not the best ad for Chinese take away,the state of the food was not nice, chrisp shredded beff was a solid lump the rice was cold veg in sauce was far to big, sorry PEGGY, I WONT BE BACK.

Nos trataron de comida para llevar en Yau por unos amigos que nosotros, pero hemos usado nosotros mismos en una ocasión anteriormente. Por lo general, la comida está bien, no nos impresionó en general la primera vez que usamos, y en esta ocasión no fue nuestra decisión que usar. La casa especial arroz frito, la carne en salsa de alubias negras y picante de pollo estaban bien. La salsa curry es muy picante. Las gambas en masa no eran muy agradables, y no todas empanada de gambas. Comparado con nuestro local chino en casa, resulta insignificante en comparación. La próxima vez que pruebe en otro lugar.

Nos dieron muy mal servicio desde el frente de la casa esperamos lo que sentimos como 5 minutos para socializar al final con otro cliente antes de ser servido. Me preguntó dos veces mientras la señora estaba tomando mi pedido si me importa esperar mientras ella contestó el teléfono de pedidos.

Última noche me trataron de una que sirve un menú de comida para llevar de Tau en Ashburton. Era tan asqueroso que paramos para comer. Comimos lo que pudimos porque era caro. No tenía sabor, aceitosa y generalmente asqueroso. Me trajeron a comer todo lo que se pone en frente de mí y después de comer no muy mucho todo el día, me pareció que podía comer, pero no se veía. Simplemente iba a poner una nota de Tripadvisor que decir qué horror la comida era, pero pensé que debía al menos hablar con ellos. Llamé y estuvieron de acuerdo en que ver conmigo hoy con los restos de la comida en mi camino a Newton Abbot. Pensé que habría sido realmente interesados en lo que tenía que decir para intentar averiguar por qué no me gustaba. Ella totalmente perdido el punto de mala calidad y unedibility. contó cuántos gambas que habíamos comido y no afectados por la cantidad de aceite que la comida estaba empapado en y había derramado en la bolsa abrió incluso antes. Todo lo que se decía que ella nos darán dinero en lo que no habíamos comido. Me hubiera gustado que hubiera fotografiado. Casi no comer nada y sin embargo ella solo iba a darnos un tercio de la cantidad. Me explicó que cuando trabajé en catering no tenía una objeción política y nos dio un reembolso del valor total cuando la gente se quejó. Su actitud y forma era extremadamente agresivos y defensiva a mi llegada. En un punto incluso me gritó que hoy en día, 14 feb, es nuevos años día! Sé que eso no es así porque era hace una semana! les expliqué que originalmente sólo quería saber cómo descontento que fue con la comida, pero tras ella lo me gritó y repetía lo lleno que estaban última noche y no me estaba escuchando, me explicó que tenía una restitución a menos que lo puso la historia en Trip Advisor ... Ella todavía sólo accedió a 2/3 del precio interviend volver después de su marido ... Así que ... Mi consejo es que no malgastes tu dinero!

Dios sabe por qué más gente no te gusta la comida china aquí! unos buenos 10 años cuando vine aquí me habría chalmange de pollo y siempre fue precioso, ahora soy vegetariano ahora tengo con fideos suaves y son deliciosos! Mi compañero no probar el arroz frito especial y realmente no tenía muy buen aspecto y él no creo que estaba buenísimo! Mi familia siempre me encantó la salsa barbacoa, continuará a venir aquí en los años por venir! Simplemente no comprobar su pedido al salir porque en ocasión olvide los artículos, pero siempre son más que dispuesto a añadir, si volver y les dices!

We have Yau's often and it's always a good meal. The service is quick too. We pretty much always have the same thing- the lemon chicken is my favourite and the special fried rice is excellent.

We live in buckfastleigh and decided to try out this Chinese take away..... Everything was greasy and inedible pork balls were so overcooked the pork was fried right the way through which made it like rock..... I don't know what they did to the chips and sweet&sour sauce but even our children wouldn't eat it.....this is the worse takeaway we have ever had... Never again.

We visit Ashburton twice a year and try to have a takeaway at least twice during each stay-speedy service and excellent food and choice--highly recommended!
