The worst ribs I have ever tasted, they were tasteless and in fact tasted of unseasoned meat. When I complained to the owner who was dismissive, all he had to offer to replace them. Why would I want the same when having been put off already! What he should have offered is either the money back or offer to take the money off our next visit. I have been frequenting the restaurant for over 15 years and all I can say bring back Ben. We need another chinese restaurant In Coulsdon!! I AM NEVER GOING BACK Have a look at the photo having pulled the meat of the bone

My daughter collected a takeaway for the family which was ready just twenty minutes after her telephone order on a Saturday evening. The food was tasty and all devoured with relish. Obviously not able to rate the restaurant but takeaway service all good.

Decided to stop in Coulsdon on the way home and parked just outside the Sichuan Garden, so thought we would try it. Very prompt service and food quality was great. Hot and Sour soup especially commendable. 2 soups, 2 beers, 2 rice, 3 main courses came to £51. Only negative aspect was that food was served on plates with fork and spoon, not in bowl with chopsticks. Had we asked, I'm sure this would have been catered for. Enjoyable meal. Would recommend and return.

My family and friends have been going to this restaurant in excess of 25 years and have enjoyed a consistently high standard of cuisine and service. Sadly with the passage of time most of the kitchen and waiting staff have returned to Hong Kong. Although this has contributed to a slight drop in excellence with some dishes it still remains an enjoyable experience. It is worth noting that some dishes are better eaten in house. For example smoked chicken loses some of its excellence as a take away but in no way can the restaurant shoulder blame for a personal choice. It is certainly not the cheapest but it is worth paying extra for quality.

Really good local Chinese and much more authentic than most. The Satay is wonderful, the black bean sauce really good and the crispy beef shreds excellent. Try it, you won't be sorry!

We decided to try this restaurant having not been there for several years after we moved out of the area. We found the food excellent, and the service from Tom attentive and friendly. Food was good quality and arrived piping hot. It was nice to see crispy lamb on their all you can eat set menu which is available Sunday to Thursday at £18 per head. We will definitely return.

Having visited Sichuan Garden many times in the distant past, I had a very lacklustre experience some 8 or 10 years ago and didn't return, until last week, when a friend took me, and my daughter there. Wow, we had the 'All you can eat' menu and it was really excellent, Fresh produce, freshly cooked and as much as anyone would want. I will return next week to check it again, just to be sure?

The food here is the best Chinese food I have ever had in the UK, the specials are always delicious, the service is friendly and they make you feel welcome. I have converted many family and friends to this restaurant and I have had great feedback. You must try their special chilli and garlic oil

As a family, the Sichuan Garden used to be one of our favorite restaurants to visit but now I doubt we will ever return. On entering, we were greeted by a waiter who seemed less than happy to be there and an almost empty restaurant. When it came to ordering our meal, we ordered a set menu for 2 people and the 3rd person ordered their own food, however the waiter advised that this would be far too much food to manage so we went along with the waiters suggestion. Once the food eventually came it was soon apparent that this was not the case and one of the party went home very hungry. Sadly we will not be returning, the standard of service, standard of food and portion size have all gone down. A much loved and visited restaurant is now one to avoid.

We came here for Mothers' Day and were delighted that they could book a table. It started very well: we ordered a fixed menu as we imagined this would save them time. They brought the drinks, there were only three tables with people on them...and then they took 20 minutes to come and get our order, noticeably taking it after those of some later-comers. They did a poor job of explaining the fruit platter for dessert, just saying 'Apple or banana?' And being quite put out when all four of us didn't order the same thing. We ordered and the starters were very good. Main course less so and again, it took ages to come. They then came and offered a dessert menu and we pointed out that there were deserts as part of our set meal; when they arrived they were fairly oily fruit fritters (the menu and staff didn't make this clear) and they were equal amounts of apple and banana so why they bothered asking earlier we don't know. Again it took a long time to arrive.Overall it wasn't bad; value was OK, the staff were pleasant and welcoming. It's just that the flustered service was something I'd have expected from a packed restaurant with everybody ordering picky items; it was only half full and we stuck to a set menu to make life easier.

We came to Sichuan gardens for my mums birthday on a Saturday night . The restaurant was near off empty however the service was awful. They seem to focus more on their regular customers and not to those who are visiting for the first time . We asked the manager if they had any non Chinese beers. He simply said no. But when his regulars come in, Carlsberg is presented to them . The food was average . We certainly won't b going back here . No wonder this restaurant is empty on Saturdays !

A lovely night to celebrate my mother in laws 60th.The place was very quiet but for a GP meeting downstairs. The food was great, not cheap but allot better the a take away so the price is justified. The staff were very nice and gave us plenty of time between courses as they knew we were full after our duck course (part of set menu 2).We were also given free drinks for 'the noise' from the GP meeting downstairs which wasn't nesessary but a nice touch. Highly recommend this place!

Good, tasty food and quick delivery. The prawns were large and succulent in a delicious black bean sauce. The beef was really tender in the ginger and spring onion sauce. The prawn toast, duck and chicken satay were all great quality. The ribs however didn't have the honey BBQ sauce that we ordered. They came dry and hadn't been marinated. The food was a touch greasy. However, overall it was a delicious meal. Will return.

We have been visiting the Sichuan Gardens in Coulsdon for the last 35 years, both eating in and take aways. Always loved the food - best Chinese ever eaten - fantastic service and atmosphere. But not any more -since the restaurant changed hands food is diabolical and service atrocious with rude waitresses, slow service, wrong orders and unrecognisable dishes.Last Saturday we went in to order a takeaway - waited an hour for it to be prepared - then were unable to eat it- a waste of £50. The quality of the meat was dreadful - chicken had weird plastic taste and texture. Satay chicken inedible, chop suey had plastic bright orange "chicken" and what appeared to be tinned bean sprouts (thin, short, limp and slimy). Special fried rice was container of rice with dollop of veg in gloopy sauce sitting on top. Really dreadful. Very sad that such a previously fantastic restaurant has lost its way. We will never visit again.

The restaurant has reopened but although no changes have been made in any way to menu and décor it is under totally new ownership and the service is nowhere as good as it used to be. Food was good but varying waiting times between courses, starters came quickly, soup took another half an hour and then the mains arrived in dribs and drabs so that noodles were cold before much of the rest of the meal eventually arrived. The chicken and cashew nuts included in the set menu was quite awful and looked insipid and tasted of nothing so we didn't eat it, did tell the waiter this but he just made a comment about there are nicer chicken dishes available but not included on the set??!!We would go back I think but wouldn't have the set again. All around us people were complaining about wrong orders and cold rice/noodles when the main arrived so hopefully they will get their act together and bring standards up to the way they were when the original owners ran the place.Have rated under very good as didn't want to give average but not very good just good! Will give it a second try and see if things improve. One other thing to add is that for some reason Tripadvisor has put a photo of the outside of a totally different Chinese restaurant, which I think is in South Croydon. This review is for Sichuan Garden in Brighton Road, Coulsdon.

This restaurant does not look hugely enticing from the outside but once inside it was a different story and we found it to be well worth the visit. I perhaps accept a previous review that the food does not offer any out of the ordinary dishes but compared to other Chinese food we have eaten locally, it was of a high standard, perfectly cooked and presented and not too greasy. The staff were polite and very attentive and there was generally a great atmosphere, we were there as a family. My only small complaint was that they started to clear our dishes before all of the party had finished eating. Perhaps I'm old fashioned! Overall I would definately recommend this restaurant.

After reading all the reviews I was expecting really bad service(pretty normal at Chinese places) but good food, but we received a 5 star service only to let down by the food. There was nothing really bad about the food, it was cooked, but it was bog standard blandish Chinese takeaway stuff, and not really on the level certain people are raving about. All I can say is the people that may be calling this best Chinese ever don;t know much about Chinese food.

The Sichuan Garden has been going for decades, and that's a tribute to the quality of the food and the friendliness of the staff. The menu includes all the standard Cantonese-style favourites plus a few Sichuan disshes. These aren't just HOT, but reflect some flavours you don't get in other Chinese restaurants.I would agree with the other reviewer, that service can be hit & miss, particularly if they're busy. YOur order will be taken quickly, and food ususally arrives promptly, but after that you tend to get forgotten. You have to falg down a waiter if you want another drink, or if you're finished, and this in itself can be a challenge, as they shoot about and don't tend to look up to see if anyone needs anything. It takes the shine off what is otherwise a good restaurant.

It’s the first time I have used Golden Orient and it certainly will not be the last. Food was ordered online and delivered, piping hot, after just 15 minutes by a very pleasant young lady. Everything was clearly cooked fresh to order and there was no greasiness or stodginess anywhere. My crispy spring rolls were absolutely delicious and both the Singapore Fried Rice and Szechuan King Prawns superb by takeaway standards, with nice levels of spice (nothing is ever hot enough for me) and impeccable ingredients, bursting with flavour. Prices are not bad at all; I have finally found a good Chinese in Purley. In fact, it’s better than good - it’s excellent.

Super friendly service and high quality food! Highly recommend the buffet menu. Only thing that will prevent you from ordering anymore is a full stomatch . Almost feel like gatekeeping this place, but there kung po chicken is the best and that includes China Town London, duck was super crispy, seafood tasted super fresh, nothing was bland and instead packed full flavour, service was also a 10 out of 10. Would definately come here for a small birthday or another special dinner or lunch you won't be disappointed!
