Golden Inn in Croydon

Small buffet restaurant where you order off the menu like a normal restaurant. The food is well cooked and not greasy like some Chinese. We've regularly gone here for over 5 years and it's the best Chinese we've found.

We had our daughter's 18th birthday at Golden Inn last night. The staff were so friendly and very attentive! The food was yummy 😋 and came out in good time! We all had an extremely enjoyable evening. Thank you for a truly unforgettable party for our daughter and her friends!! We'll definitely be visiting again soon! ☺️

Been here multiple times. The all-you-can-eat option is great value for money. The portion sizes are reasonable, and the food we have had has always been tasty! The pace of service is good, the staff are friendly and I would highly recommend visiting here!

Great value for family gatherings with eat as much as you want for a fixed price. Remember you are paying a fixed price, so you get good wholesome food to match the price paid with matching levels of service. We have been here a number of times for family birthdays & cannot fault anything about this restaurant, other than the chairs which several of us have struggled with as they caused back aches, but we will still probably be going again at some point.

We had a take away last night, the food was delivered on time.But I ordered 3 dishes, one of them was house special sea food Ho fun. It was very bland and not cooked properly. The squid and scallops were very hard to eat. Not like it was described in the menu. Paid £10 just for 1 dish. Also the container was leaking when it was delivered. Not worth the price. The mushroom & king prawns dish also was not up to standard. Not very happy.

Had a meal for 8 people, there. Quiet place. Feels atmospheric place, with paintings, Chinese lanterns. Friendly staff. Good quality food, price is ok. We booked for 8pm, one evening; we were the only group there. Thanks.

I actually love their food. The popcorn chicken is so good I have dreams about it, the food is always flavourful . Its super expensive, which I hate, but they also do a buffet for 25 pounds, which I love because they cook the food fresh in manageable portions so there's no waste. I definitely recommend the buffet often. They're pretty nice in-house, and even though it's hurts my wallet, I'll always be a repeat customer

Absolutely appalling service. Was told 60 mins for delivery and still waiting 90 mins later. Whoever answers the phone needs full training on customer service, because she has none. So rude and doesn't care.

Reason for 1 star - can't put zero star. Food is unseasoned and is as bland as stale bread. Don't waste your money. Sesame toast soaked in oil and was obviously out for a while. Most went in the bin (dog refused it) I just hope I don't have bad stomach tonight. Yuk.

Once again i consumed mouth watering food from this fine establishment. I found the honey chicken popcorn to be probably one of the best things on the menu along with any of the chefs specialities. The chicken and the beef wasn’t very filling which i prefer as i can consume large amounts of the heavenly food made by the gods. It’s also a really good value for the amount you get and xin is employee of the month i believe so. Also to top the my meal off i consumed a chicken soup which did the job it filled me up 😏😈. I will always get food from here now it’s the best. golden inn is the thing that makes me not hungryyyy golden inn is the thing that makes me hor-hungryyyy is so yummy in my tummy. 11/10 best ever from lewisa

Came here to try as not many great Chinese restaurants around a pity that didn’t even get to try the food as sat down with the menu ordered a drink all was great meaning looked good we went to order the all you can eat buffet to be told that my 2 10 year olds couldn’t have a childrens menu as they were over 120cm!!! THEY ARE 10 AND CHILDREN!!!! They even have a measuring height chart. When confronted with this they rather our party leave than take the £100 we were about to spend!! DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!

Not bad, pretty average place, quite small inside so gets hot really quickly! Soft drink prices are ridiculous would just have tap water! Quality of food is fair...

Other than it was one of the worst takeaways I’ve ever encountered. I must say the hard un cooked rice and the bland food was topped off with egg in my food when I clearly said no egg. If you’re reading this please don’t as if you do you will be kicking yourself with regret like me 🤢🤮

Absolutely do NOT USE the delivery service. Called and was told an hour and a half. Nearly two hours later, called and was informed 'meal was in progress' Absolutely disgusted. Please tell the truth. If its going to take 2 hours plus inform customer. I don't even warrant the one star minus 4 yes!

Currently waiting 2.15 hours for food that was promised 1 hour- been told three times he is on his way and will be 5 mins now saying it is a 20 minute journey from Shirley to Addiscombe!!!! No idea what the food is like but will never order from them again . Don’t take the order if you are over busy and then lie !

First time I ordered a Chinese since moving to the area and I am so glad that I chose the golden inn! It's been such a long time since I have eaten such tasty dishes. Absolutely no complaints here, plus food turned up hot!

Just spent a wonderful evening celebrating a birthday at The Golden Inn. The food was, as always, excellent - freshly made to order, hot and fresh. Tables were well placed and the manager obviously is very COVID aware and keeps the restaurant safe. Loads of vegetarian options too!

Ok so based on reading the reviews. It would seen that it's best to eat in the restaurant than to order for delivery as it would seem they send u different food for delivery. So I plan to secretly go to the restaurant and I will give feedback if this is true or not

I normally do not leave reviews, but as for this, I am compelled to do so. New in the area and based on the images on the website of the food and other reviews, I made my order. probably the worst chinese I have ever had, I'm not sure if this was a bad day for them, however it was almost like everything I ordered was left overs from last week. the salt and pepper ribs may as well of been 1 small dehydrated rib cut up and put in a small container, virtually nothing but dry small bones with the odd meat on it and not even enough to feed a child yet alone an adult. the prawns dish was so bad that I could not eat it as was so stable and hard. Basically I will never eat from here again. £50 worth of order just down the drain. The search continues for my new local chines.. anyone with recommendations let me know.

So disapointed after having great meals in the restraunt. We just had a take away and it was well below par. The kung po prawn dish was so hot I thought I would have to go to Mayday. That was the dish I was most looking forward to after having it in house. There was no plum sauce with the duck. The special starters was a discrace. So disapointed 🤬😭

Best Chinese I’ve ever had, and I’m very fussy when it comes to Chinese food, cooked perfectly, you won’t go wrong

I had a take away from here recently for the first time and was very pleasantly surprised. There are very few Chinese restaurants open due to coronavirus, and my local was closed. So I took a chance and the Golden Inn. The food was amazing! It wasn’t greasy at all, which I often find with Chinese food. Everything tasted fresh and flavoursome. I really liked the set meal option where you can have one starter, one main and a side for £10.90. That’s great value, and there were lots of choices. The service was great. I will definitely be using them again.

I have been there a few times now and I have never had a bad meal there. Has always been so flavourful and nice and I would always recommend this place. I agree though, the staff could be a little more approachable and smiley, but whenever I have been I have never had a problem personally.

1/1/2020 just ordered food inn to my home .. worst food I’ve had in my life .. ribs were over cooked with no flavour/ beef curry was rock hard / mixed meat chow main over cooked in fish sauce unbelievable how disgusting this place iss.. On top of this I’ve had an upset tummy from the food!! I Repeat DO NOT EAT HERE

We arrived and was approached by a not so friendly staff member (a female) who showed us to our seats. As we were about to sit, when were asked if we wanted the buffet or al la cart, we agreed the buffet. After which, we were promptly told that my 7 year old would be charged as an adults and he was above the 120cm mark ( btw he was is 125cm when measured). I questioned her and said you can clearly see he’s a child, she refused and said that’s was the rule. Because of this we left and went elsewhere. Pros- NoneCons- poor customer service, children charged adult fees, dated decor.To end we won’t be returning.

We always go to this restaurant on birthdays but never again one lady member is lovely but the other one is very very rude , there was 13 of us an we was watched an told that if any left we would be charged an extra five pound per dish but she told me about six times , An constantly watched us all the time , we had a lil girl of nine with us who didn’t feel well An didn’t eat An was told we still had to pay 19 pound for her which was appauling as we spent over 400 in total for food an drink so they have lost a large family who very often go in there over one woman’s rudeness to us all an charging my daughter 19 pound for a nine year old that didn’t feel well to eat anything An we used to enjoy going in there with the other lady but never ever again will we be going in there

The welcome that we received upon entrance to the Golden Inn was less than inviting. It was clear that they were unhappy that we had chosen to bring a three-year-old out for a quick bite to eat at 6 pm. The restaurant was empty and so we didn’t think this would be an issue. Our toddler was interested in exploring the restaurant was not out of control and did not make any noise. I can’t remember anyone saying hello to us, asking us how we were or asking us if we enjoyed our meal afterwards. We could’ve forgiven all of this if the food had been top-notch, but sadly it was not. The portions were not generous and the filled wonton was hardly filled, with more crispy batter than filling. Nobody said thank you us for visiting and we were left to see ourselves out of the restaurant. When we left the restaurant we both turned to each other and said ‘what did we do wrong?’. Will not be visiting again I’m afraid.

None of us wanted to cook on a hot Sunday in August so we went there as it was open and other places were not. We went in and had our choice of seating as no one else was in the restaurant and that was the way it stayed throughout our whole stay for the meal, some people came in that had ordered take away, but no one else stayed to eat in the restaurant. On the whole the meal was satisfactory with some of the dishes being excellent eg.(Chilli Pepper King Prawns) and others we are certain were just heated up. If I could I would give 3 1/2 stars as it does not hit very good, but is just above average.

We had looked on line for a Chinese restaurant offering a fixed price buffet menu and decided to go to the Golden inn as the buffet menu was different and extensive costing £19.95 per head. The food was excellent, bold flavours and beautifully cooked.Service from Ryan was first class, attentive and cheerful.The Tom Yam soup we thought was exceptional. An added bonus was the air conditioned room as the outside temperature was 31 degrees. We will definitely return.

We have used this restaurant to order our takeaways for years but hadn’t visited to eat there for a long time. The food was great but the manner of the serving staff was appalling! There was no attempt at a smile or greeting of any sort and several times she reached across people who were eating to pick up a plate or put down a drink because she obviously couldn’t be bothered to walk around the table. Sorry to say we won’t eat in the restaurant again. Shame because the food is really good.

Disgusting service and food! Went there this evening ordered from the Al a carte menu - I was in shock with what they served up I will be contacting standard trading and environmental health! Picture of spare ribs looked delicious they served us lumps of fat/meat in sauce not anything like the picture -she said the picture was ribs in a different sauce - so why have a picture of ribs with sweet n sour sauce option under it?!! didnt want to argue with her, she was so rude and agressive! I ordered chicken rice with B'que sauce on top it came with tasteless rice on a sea of gravy sliced chicken lumps and boiled cabbage on top?! I said i cant eat this with lumps of soggy cabbage on - it does not say on the menu cabbage? She said can you push it to the side of the plate if you dont want to eat it - I sent it back and they still charged me - the duck pancakes were disgusting - she said why eat it?. No condiments on the table! Believe me I would not feed my dog on that sh**e! Rude staff and spotted a notice if you waste food and not eat it you can't take it home and will be fined £5 on your bill I can't wait to get this place investigated under trading standards. She probably served us left over food from the all day "eat all day" buffet that suits people with no idea of what a good Chinese meal should actually taste like! I am so ANGRY! DO NOT EAT HERE unless you have eaten sh*t and liked it!

Phoned on Wednesday at 2155, according to menu open till 2230. I phoned to place a order for delivery and once i said delivery they said they couldn't hear me and hung up. So i phoned them back and said i would like to place a order for delivery, i was told in no uncertain terms we're closed, i said its 2200 and on your menu it says you close at 2230 on a Wednesday, no were closed thats it and they hung up again. Make your own mind up weather to order from them or leave your phone number with them so they can phone you and tell you when to order at what and when to collect. I have never been treated like this by any establishment in the last 30 years. .

Arrived at 8:45pm on a Wednesday and they were obviously hoping that no-one else would come in. The All-You-Can-Eat buffet was quite expensive and the staff were very unfriendly. The food was average, at best, and not very hot.. The drinks were over-priced, They were switching the lights off before we had even got our jackets on. No-one said goodbye or thank you. I shall be crossing this one off my list of local eateries.

We come here fairly often, it is by far our favourite Chinese restaurant. The food is fantastic, freshly cooked to order, the staff are very friendly and helpful. Very, very good value. The squid is to die for!

Have been to this restaurant a few times now and always enjoyed it. We booked a table for 11 for my sons 16th birthday and everyone had a lovely time. The food is really good and we like the traditional decor and Chinese music that was playing in the background. The staff at the restaurant are so lovely nothing was to much trouble. What was so nice was, after finishing our meal they played happy birthday to my son and bought out a birthday cake, which really was so nice of them. Over priced, missed too many dishes i got one lamb dish rather than the three we ordered furthermore 75.90 for something that the portions weren't even big portions. I would never ever go back to this place because they are con artist and its not a buffet like you normally get its a rip off.

I love oriental food having travelled widely in Asia so it's great to find a place than has more than your typical bog standard dishes to choose from. This place offers a great choice of tasty treats so when you visit, make sure you also order something you've never tried before. You won't regret it!

Rude staff, food wasn't great, undercooked and flavourless, also wouldn't recommend you order takeaway from them, found 2 black hairs in my food, disgusting would give them zero stars if I could.

The first time we have been to Golden Inn and will definitely be back! Food was amazing enjoyed everything we had especially the Prawn Toast & Roast Duck with pancakes. If you want a traditional restaurant then this is the place to go. All the food was cooked fresh to order and the staff were lovely and friendly.

Very very nice clean and great food

Called at one o’clock and was told they would be open all day until 10: booked a taxi and got there just after three to find the place in darkness and a ‘sorry we are closed’ sign on the door - I will not bother contemplating going here again: seeing the high regard they have for people paying money I recommend everyone else gives them a miss too.

Ribs were more fat than meat, I clearly told the waiter I have a shrimp allergy, yet my food had shrimp. The service was non existent and just plain rude when I stated my dish contained something I didn't ask for. Then to top things off they added service charges. I'm not impressed nor will I return

I would avoid thus restaurant at all costs there website is lies pricing is completely wrong and when you go in to pick up food you get charged and extremely higher price! Staff attitude is awful so rude one staff member even accused me of they money even though I had clearly just taken with me enough money that price stated on the website!!

Very disappointed! Firstly online menu is completely wrong. Food was cold and fried tofu inedible. Price online was £19.50 however was charged £21.50. Hardly any food for the price and tasted the same. I'll stick to our usual Indian restaurant from now on.

Been to this restaurant just after Christmas my daughter is 6 but tall for her age. However the very rude waitress demanded she be measured she was a little over 1 metre 20 so I was told that I would have to pay an adults price for a 6 year old. After having an argument that this was discrimination against children who for no fault of their own are tall for their age I then offered to use her passport to show she would not eat an adults meal. Absolutely disappointing!! The mannerism of the waitress was awful. Although food was very nice we will not return due to the customer service and the fact they treat children the way they do!

Only problem is they charge £18.60 for a child who is 120 cm and £9 for under 120cm This is sizeism as my daughter is only 6 but tall for her age.. how on gods earth would she eat up to £18.60 worth of food. So a child who is 8 but small for age can eat for £9 but my daughter has to pay £18.60 Never heard of price being based on height Absolutely ridiculous.

The restaurant is nicely decorated and cosy, sitting probably a maximum of 30 people. We opted for the all you can eat buffet which was very tasty. My only criticism would be the length of time it took to get what you ordered - and it came out in dribs and drabs so you would finish one dish before the other one arrived - the portions weren't particularly big either so we had to keep asking for more dishes. I presume that maybe it is intentionally slow because among the list of "rules" in the menu it states how long you have got to eat there - I think it was 2 hours if you had booked and 1 hour 45 mins if you had just walked in - we needed all of the 2 hours to allow for the food arriving. I can understand a time limit is probably required to stop people from abusing the all you can eat option but I prefer to have all my food on the plate at once and a bigger portion would stop me from needing to ask for more!

Never know what to expect with the food as it differs each time we visit. Used to be very nice but it has been a long time since it was like that. Portions are also shrinking. The dishes are always served on cold plates so the food goes cold very quickly, very disappointing and frustrating. I don't think the staff care whether you like the place or not.

Went to this restaurant around 7pm in the evening. There was the manager whom was female and middle aged. It was 8 of us we reserved to go into the restaurant and as soon as we got in we had a table barely for 8. They had placed two chairs squished against the bar for my parents to sit in which was highly uncomfortable and when we asked to make more room she said "we are a small restaurant" and looked at us in despair and talking very loudly at us. My sister raised a point to tell her to lower her tone and we have not even sat down! From there we repeated again my parents were able to sit uncomfortably in the corner of the table and then eventually the lady agreed to move the table to make room. From there our mood was spoilt and we just sat down and started to order drinks which she had done so. She bought out the drinks and then I had a pint of coke however requested it without ice when she was giving it to me and again she looked at me in despair and went back to the little bar and started speaking in her own language which I think is Cantonese to her male colleague who was around 25-30 ish of age. We ordered our starter and she said "If you waste any food you will be charged" which made us slightly uncomfortable so we decided to order in little portions at a time. When the lady bought out so called clean plates there was a long black hair in my brothers plate which seemed to be beard hair or something similar which my brother does not have long facial hair so it was not his and when my brother complained the lady got really defensive and said well its not ours and accused him of placing a hair in the plate! From there she took the plate away and replaced it. <<< see picture Once the starters came out the food was too sweet and to say pretty average again with no manners when she bought it out pushing past myself to put the plates on the table without not even an "Excuse me". The duck was hard and dry and the lamb was horrible. She bought out satay sauce with chicken with the sauce in a bowl of oil as you can see from the pictures. <<<<<< Also the prawns they do not clean out at all. The lady kept on repeating to us if there is any wastage then we will be charged. We then got to dessert. Oh yes the best part of the meal personally and we wanted to order the banana fritters and she then said the Chef's are too busy and they said it will take 45 minutes to bring out the fritters I was very angry with this as this is not how you run a restaurant. Its not the hardest dessert to make and it seemed as though she could not be bothered getting the chefs to do dessert as she had a part of 18 people to serve and deemed them more important. After we left she had bought out our jackets and then during the process just threw a jacket on me assuming it was me however it was not even my jacket! I then looked at her showing my anger and she didn't even apologise or even to take the jacket off me. So overall the food was average and the customer service was hands down the worst customer service I have ever had! I will never be returning to this restaurant and hope this review has given you some insight before you approach.

Worst experience ever had in a restaurant, 2 hrs to get starters, dishes come out in bits and bobs,bought hoi sin out for 2nd course duck, half hour later still no duck, paid for what we had and left, would never go back, ended up with sausage and chips from chip shop on the way home.
