Siamais in Birmingham

We had an early dinner before heading to Cench’s concert. The food was delicious, and the service from the waitresses was excellent. The bill included a service charge, but it was worth it for the great service. *P.S. The toilet was very clean, can’t go wrong with a clean restroom when it comes to restaurant hygiene.

Came in on Easter Sunday with my son for a birthday meal, the gentleman who I didn’t catch his name did look like a manager tho, was absolutely amazing the staff are just amazing the food well!! OMG wow just absolutely incredible and I shall be bringing my brother here in June for his Birthday meal this place is a solid 10/10 even sang happy birthday when bringing my dessert out 😊 thank you for a lovely evening.

This place and the staff are the absolute best! They’re attentive, eager to help, food was the absolute tip top! Any issue or request was accommodated within minutes! Ashanti and the manager in the snappy suit catered for my daughter in law’s wedding guests t with friendly, speedy & hart-warming genuineness! I live in London but whenever I come to Brummi, this is where my partner & I will come to enjoy filling our bellies! 😘

Had a birthday dinner here yesterday and so booked a table in advance for 8pm but we weren’t seated until 9pm and were asked to wait by the bar for an hour. After being seated though the food was great and came quickly, drinks were nice and we were offered a complimentary round to apologise. Overall would go again, staff just need to be more organised with bookings as other groups were also waiting.

The food was great and the waitress was really friendly. The bathrooms were disappointing, one cubicle had a broken mirror and none of the cubicles had any hooks or a place to put your bag, meaning it had to go on the floor. For the price of the food and drinks (£7 for a pint of Diet Coke!!!) you’d expect basic amenities.

A Long-Awaited Visit with Mixed Emotions After waiting over a year to finally visit this up-and-coming Thai restaurant, I decided my birthday was the perfect occasion to experience the charming decor and try the enticing dishes I’d been admiring online for so long. The setting was cozy and visually pleasing. Initially, the lighting felt soft and intimate, though as the evening went on, it became a little too dim for my liking. While the ambiance was pleasant, I couldn’t help but notice the absence of background music, which meant the room was filled mostly with chatter. It lacked a distinct vibe or the kind of authentic, atmospheric touch I expected from a Thai restaurant. The Starters: A Promising Start The starters were the highlight of the evening. Each dish was beautifully presented, rich in aroma and flavor, and portioned just right—not too small, not overwhelming. I had the salt and chili prawns, which were perfectly fried, generously sized, and packed with just the right amount of kick to balance the salt. We also tried the fish cakes and calamari, both of which were 10/10 in flavor and paired with sauces that enhanced the dishes wonderfully. Main Course Missteps Unfortunately, the mains didn’t quite live up to the same standard. I opted for a Thai green curry—a longtime favorite I’ve had at various authentic Thai spots—but this one was far spicier than expected. It’s listed as the mildest curry on the menu, but the heat level was far beyond what is typically associated with this dish. While I understand spice tolerance varies, a dish advertised as mild should generally align with that expectation. Sadly, I couldn’t finish it and had to return the dish. On the other hand, the beef in oyster sauce was excellent—flavorful, well-balanced, and served in a generous portion. However, the “coconut rice” left a lot to be desired. It was priced higher than the jasmine rice, yet the only difference, as explained by the waiter, was a shaving of coconut on top. It wasn’t cooked with coconut milk or infused with any actual coconut flavor, which felt misleading and unjustified in pricing. Service Letdown Turned Around by One Exceptional Staff Member What truly shocked me was the poor customer service—particularly from the owner herself. When I returned the green curry, she sent the waiter back out with the same dish, claiming they had “dampened the spice.” They had mixed in the egg fried rice I had already started eating and re-served it all together. I was appalled—not only was the dish not freshly prepared, but the presentation felt careless and unprofessional. The owner was firm, even intimidating, and insisted the dish would remain on the bill. I was genuinely surprised that someone with such poor customer service skills was handling the front of house. Thankfully, a staff member named Andrew stepped in and completely changed the tone of the evening. He handled the situation with professionalism and care, turning what could have been a ruined birthday dinner into a salvaged experience. Thanks to Andrew’s approach, I’d be willing to give this restaurant a second chance. Final Thoughts This restaurant has incredible potential—the flavors and quality of the food (starters especially) are not in question. However, the customer service needs serious improvement. I’d suggest placing skilled customer care staff like Andrew at the forefront and offering training for others to ensure the overall experience lives up to the food. Overall Rating: 6/10 The food shows promise, but the service—especially from management—needs to catch up. I’d consider returning in hopes of a more consistent and welcoming experience

Ashanti was fantastic all night

We had the most amazing bottomless brunch here - atmosphere is great, food tasty & of very high quality, and the drinks are certainly free flowing. Special thanks to Ashanti- she was an amazing host, we will return!!!

We recently dined at Siamais restaurant and had a truly wonderful experience. The food was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The atmosphere was vibrant and stylish, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed and enjoyable evening. A special mention goes to our waiter, Pedro, who made our visit even more memorable. He was incredibly friendly, attentive, and helpful when it came to recommending dishes and drinks. His warm personality and excellent service added so much to our overall experience. We were thoroughly impressed and will definitely be coming back again and again. Highly recommended!

Absolutely gorgeous food! Went out as a group of 8 people and it was 10/10! The service was fast, the food was fast and the staff were very accommodating! Huge selection of options as well as a huge vegi menu too! Honestly so happy we visited this place while in Birmingham. Go! You won’t regret it!!

Came here from my birthday. Was greated by Andrew who was very friendly and funny. I had a fabulous time the food and drinks was amazing and the service impeccable. Andrew was also at hand and all the other staff was also very attentive. Thankyou!

Writing this review mainly for our server, Ashanti, who served my 4 friends and I on the 29th March. She was just the right level of attentive, ensured we had enough drinks throughout our brunch and brought us shots at the end for my friends birthday, including non-alcoholic shots for the 2 of us who do not drink alcohol. Overall, Ashanti made our experience. We were all happy with the food. The massaman curry, the minced meat stir fry and chicken and prawn balls were a win. Lots of drinks to choose from for the bottomless brunch, including a wide range of non-alcoholic cocktails. Would definitely visit again.

Pad Thai and Chicken Red Curry were perfect! Service was not so friendly. Nice atmosphere…

Food here is amazing, just a little bit in the pricey side but going once in a blue moon doesn't make it all thay bad. Ambience is good and the service is great, they are really attentive. Book in advance as they do get busy and they do need a non refundable holding deposit.

I’ve visited Siamais over 3 times in the past and have always enjoyed it. visited last night with a friend and unfortunately we forgot to make a booking (rushing back from work) so we thought lets see if they will except walk-ins. Once we arrived there it was half empty in terms of seats. The front of house staff informed us its an hour wait. So I made a booking on open-table whilst we were waiting and lmthere were alot of bookings available- this would make sense as the restaurant had so many empty seats. Went back in and told them we made a booking. All to be told - it’s still an hour wait and that he was not honest about something - which was confusing. So we asked why there’s availability online but his system shows that theres no table available. Alot of back and forth. Just felt like he just didn’t want us to come in. So he asked us to wait at the bar for a table and “to see what he can do”. I wasn’t going anywhere as there would be a £20 hold as I made the booking online if i don’t turn up. The bar area had no seats at all. We sat on a normal table and after 2 minutes there was a table available miraculously. To sum up, very nasty front of house staff, condescending and I only put it down to discrimination. Waiting staff were lovely.

Our server was REINE!! FIVE STARS FOR REINE!! Even though it was a packed night she met our every need!! I say REINE needs a raise!

A really lovely restaurant, great decor and atmosphere. We were spoilt for choice despite needing lots of vegan options. Every dish was tasty, lots of fresh ingredients and amazing sauces. Our server, Reine, was great - welcoming, friendly and attentive. My mum wants to shout out the bubble bath non-alcoholic cocktail she had, she was delighted with how fun it was.

I so wanted to love this place. Visited during lunch service and ordered from the Lunch Menu - 2 courses for £18.95 The venue is lovely looking, soft tones, nice seating… The first thing that got me a bit unhappy was the waitress. She was friendly but super slow and looked like she is elsewhere in her mind. It took a while for her to take my order and the place was literally empty (me and two other tables). I ordered Spring Rolls and Beef Pad Thai. The food arrived quickly BUT two small spring rolls per order were looking rather lost on the plate. The Pad Thai was decent flavour but again really small portion. Upon paying they charged 12% service charge which for the service was really inadequate and £1 for a charity donation. I asked why wasn’t I told about this and the waitress said “it is on every table… Just not on yours”… it wasn’t on any table during lunch service so I am suspicious what it actually was. I asked for it to be removed from my bill. Overall, not impressed. It’s a nice looking place with ok food and not impressive service. Can’t say I’d be rushing to visit again…

Disappointing - like ordinary Pub food! We were looking forward to experiencing this place with friends. Unfortunately very little about Siamais matched the lovely location in the beautiful part of Birmingham, the Oozells Square, and not to forget the friendly service. Starters - Soft shell Crab - hardly had any crab in it, was mostly fried batter. Salt & Chilli Prawns - was okay. Mains - none of the 4 Mains we ordered was memorable. 2 of us ordered Seabass with tamarind sauce but they only had 1 portion apparently which itself was disappointing at the start. I can’t understand why since we were the first customers for Sunday lunch. They served the second seabass steamed with a tamarind sauce on the side which looked unappetising and too sweet. Food seemed to be deep fried or steamed quickly and put together with a random thick sauce poured over it. Dessert - the only encouraging bit of the meal - Caramel Soufflé was absolutely delicious. Coffee - served luke warm. Had to request reheating. Table was not clean, seat covers stained and old - thankfully all elements that can be worked on and improved. Finally, places shouldn’t be adding extras in the customer’s bill without their consent. It is unacceptable to snuck in extra costs on to the bill even if it is for charity!

The food was mediocre for the price we paid, and the service was disappointing. We were not informed that our table was only available for 1 hour and 30 minutes. When we tried to order desserts at the 1-hour 15-minute mark, we were refused because they were too busy and needed the table back. Although the manager later offered the desserts, the poor service had already left a bad impression!

Went for valentines tonight, put us right next to the door which we were freezing all night, the waitress who served us was friendly, however she didn’t have any knowledge on drinks/food and seemed really confused at requests, maybe not her fault if the restaurant hasn’t up-skilled her, also forgot our jug of water, she did say she was new so was a bit slow, why put a new staff member on a Friday night when it’s busy due to being Valentines? Food was nice but the website is so confusing which I explained this to the manager that their website for the valentines menu states “sharing menu for 2” and then underneath gives you the price of £60, we clarified this with a waiter before we ordered and he said yes it’s £60 when we asked if it was for a couple, I’m unsure if he was confused but we got charged double then what we thought plus they added £40 extra tip to the bill without asking, I asked for this to be removed which they did, I found this to be cheeky to even ask as we aren’t in the US! Manager didn’t offer no solution and didn’t care when we told him about the waiter telling us £60 for a couple and we had no choice but to pay ,no reasoning at all for their misunderstanding. Not worth the money at all and will not be returning, service was disgusting. If you want a nice restaurant I recommend TATTU, there prices are displayed correctly as well! How hard is it to just put “per person” on the website or menu?

Very average and set menu on valentine's night very limited with no prior mention of this!!! The first waiter eventually came over and just stood there , when I looked at him rather than ask if we would perhaps like a drink just looked back at me and said are you okay sir (retraining needed immediately) now considering I couldn't have what I really wanted to have this evening and the fact that the management have clearly drawn up these set menus as a very overpriced and lazy money trap, I will never return. But hey guys reading this review please make up your own minds , there are way better restaurants!!!

I had an amazing experience at bottomless brunch thanks to our fantastic server, Kelis. From the moment we sat down, she made us feel welcomed and taken care of. She was attentive without being overbearing, ensuring our drinks were always full and our needs were met. Kelis had a great energy, and her friendly demeanor really made the experience special. She was knowledgeable about the menu and offered great recommendations. It’s rare to find such exceptional service, and Kelis made our brunch unforgettable. I’ll definitely be coming back, hoping to have her as our server again!

He has an incredible knack for making personalised drink recommendations, and his cocktails are always spot-on. You can tell he’s passionate about his craft and genuinely cares about providing top-notch service. Whether it’s a busy night or a quiet evening, Daniel ensures every customer feels valued. Highly recommend stopping by and letting him mix you a drink – you won’t be disappointed!

Arrived on a weekday where it was relatively quiet. Food was fine - nothing special, staff were miserable, not once did any of them smile - the manager in the suit could have made a little more effort, it felt like he didn’t want to be there. Even though the restaurant was empty the manager wouldn’t let me sit on a lager table that was slightly in the corner as I was a solo diner. Instead I was placed right in the middle which I wasn’t really comfortable with. I was charged a service charge for someone bringing me food - there was no service that warranted the charge. They also apply a charity donation that they do not make you aware of but add to your bill - very very cheeky for an establishment who also charge for service (giving barely any service) and overpriced food.
