SHUROVI in Redcar and Cleveland

Walked in at 10.30pm on a Friday evening and asked for a table for 4, jabba the hut who was on duty this evening did not seem to be so accommodating and promptly told us they were shutting in 45 minutes. No offer of a table or option to order quickly just a blank look. She/it then went to liaise with a more senior member to ask if we could eat there. It still never actually conversed with us to confirm if eating in a restaurant was feasible or not! Needless to say we walked out never to return, shame as the food looked and smelt really good!

Not very nice at all. Worst Indian food I've had in years. Staff seemed miserable. No atmosphere at all. Ordered Monk fish which was well over cooked, tough at the edges, no taste whatsoever and just covered in some bland sauce. It certainly had not been marinated bedore cooking. Rice was hard in places, like it had been left out and reheated. Very disappointed.

Living in Whitby, we usually travel to Pickering for a good Indian restaurant. On the recommendation of a friend, we decided to try Shurovi in Guisborough instead. We were not disappointed. It was very quiet on a November Monday night but the food and the service were excellent. Highly recommended and we are looking forward to our next visit.

Excellent food but service poor

Had a wonderful meal here last night. Three of my family attended. We all had a starter and main course and weren't disappointed by the quality of the food. Lots to choose from and so many different tastes and flavours. The service was attentive throughout and made sure that we enjoyed our meal. When I went to pay I was surprised how reasonable the bill was for how much we ate and drunk. Very good place to go to if you like Indian food, enjoyed the whole experience and we'll be back again. Simply the best Indian around, however they need to improve their collection estimates. Was told it would be 45mins, but was actually just over 1hr before my food was ready. Worth the wait though! 😋

Went for a family meal, nice food but terrible service. The staff member who took our order us was rude and dismissive, literally threw the pickles on to the table. We then waited an hour and a quarter for food despite there only being about a third of the tables occupied. Seemed to be concentrating more on getting takeaways out of the door. No apologies or explanations for the delay were provided. The food, when it eventually arrived was hot and tasty but it was too late in the evening to enjoy it.

This is the worst curry I have ever had from a restaurant/ takeaway. Rice was tanned with bright red colouring Curry was tanned with bright red colouring. Tasteless dish. Lamb was ok Would avoid at all costs unless chef is replaced. Staff not friendly or warm either .

Went here on 5th November 2023. We walked in and the place was empty apart from people waiting for takeaways, so I got a bit apprehensive. I shouldn't have as it turned out to be fantastic. The meal was fantastic. The food was fresh, hot and very tasty. The place was empty, I believe with it being the 5th of November. While we were sat there the place never stopped with people coming in for takeaways. Will definitely be going back

We had a takeaway after the football Excllent food. The Lamb jalfrezi was superb. Good service and a nice atmosphere.

The food is excellent the service is so slow and poor it’s almost funny, clearly the kitchen cannot cope at peak times with all the restaurant orders and takeaways and I am sure they are doing there best, but as a customer you are left hungry and frustrated

Nice ambience for dinner night and daytime. Food is also good and pocket friendly. It's an ideal place for small outing with friends and family. Food varies from hot and cold beverages to veg and non veg main courses along with appetizers and desserts. One of the highly recommended restaurant in town.

Probably the best restaurant experience we have ever had! We came here a group of 5 adults on yesterday based on our friends recommendation and had a wonderful meal at Shurovi. Where do we even begin!!!The food was absolutely wonderful, especially the chicken pakora and the chicken tikka! We had a selection of curries including; South Indian Garlic Chicken, Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Aloo, Saag Paneer and Lamb Shashlick Balti with various sundries. All were full of flavour and absolutely delicious! Portions are plentiful and generous. The naan was garlicky and spectacular. The rice was nice and fluffy and easy to digest. Staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and happy to accommodate our requests. We will certainly be returning.

Shurovi is the best- A lovely delicious restaurant. Enjoyed a great evening on Friday evening at Shurovi with family. The service and presentation were excellent. Really authentic quality food, lovely restaurant setting with great service from very helpful and friendly servers. We shared starters of Onion Bhaji, Sizzling Fish and Vegetable Samosa- all were delicious and served with delicious and interesting garnishes- we loved the mint sauce. Lamb Shashlick was slow cooked with peppers and onions and was really tender, the Butter Chicken was rich and indulgent and the Chicken Tikka was well spiced and all were really generous portions. It was our third visit after moving to Guisborough and we'll definitely back.

AVOID!!! MAGGOTS dropping from ceiling!!! As a frequent visitor since moving to Guisborough two years ago I would never ever disrespect a small business but this is absolutely disgusting what we encountered. Just finishing up the poppadoms and pickle tray when one of the party said oh my god what’s that … a live Maggot wriggling across the table. On lifting up a plate another one! On informing the waiter he looked straight up at the ceiling and didn’t look phased or shocked in the slightest. He said would you like to move to the back of the restaurant to which we declined and said we wanted to leave. We asked if they would like us to pay for drinks but the waiter was too busy adding up bills on his calculator… it was so surreal like it was nothing! We asked again would y like us to pay for the drinks before we leave and he said no. I understand since there has been two more reviews online recently mentioning maggots but now there said posts have gone. No food business should ever ever ignore something as serious as this. I’ll never ever dine or takeaway from here again.

Visited here with friends as we frequently do due to the vast menu and friendly staff. Last night will be our last time. We were shown to our table, ordered drinks and food and decided on poppadoms whilst we waited. Within minutes, a friend noticed a maggot crawling across his plate whilst another one was on his poppadom. Staff were alerted immediately who then instantly looked up at the ceiling as if that was the source. They offered to move us away from that area to another section. Neither staff members were shocked or surprised at our incident. Needless to say, moving tables does not solve the problem and their lack of reaction gave me the impression these two maggots had a whole family living close by. Redcar and Cleveland Environmental Health have been contacted via email and I will edit this post once I have received a response.

Have been a number of times over the years. Good service and food ok. However, last evening a tiny maggot dropped on me from what we thought was the ceiling light. Didn’t seem to shock anyone and only received £5 off bill! Had I not been in a larger group, I would not have paid and left straight away. I did not eat anything else!!

Called up for a takeaway, food was ready quickly and good portion size and quality as per usual with Shurovi’s. Chicken is always tender and can tell it’s high quality, and the food is always full of flavour.

Utterly disappointed with the service, all but one member of staff actually smiled and seemed happy to serve us, they rest looked like they just didn't want to be there, and that unfortunately reflected on the poor service, we use Shurovi for take out and the food is delicious but we will never dine in again.....poor....very poor

Went with family. The service was poor to say the least! Really spoiled our night as the staff couldn't be bothered at all! Waited nearly 30 minutes before we were served with drinks after asking many times and answered with a grunt! Very disorganized! Food when it came- in bits and bobs ages apart- was delicious! We were only a table of 6. Needs management to step up and get staff motivated! Shame as food was good!

Visited for a family meal on Wednesday evening, we had starters and a main all of which were tasty, I had the sheek kebab to start and can recommend it. I forget the exact name of the main I ordered but it was from the chef's recommendations, had masala in the name and was chicken breast in a tamarind sauce. The flavours were excellent and it had a perfect level of spice, not too much but still some heat. The garlic and coriander naans were also excellent. The prices are reasonable and the food was all good, definitely worth a look if you're looking for an Indian in the area.

We ordered a takeaway and advised as it was going to take 45 minutes the restaurant would deliver to our home. It was delivered 1 hour and 45 minutes later and had to make 2 further calls as to its whereabouts. My food was delicious, however the chicken in the chicken tikka masala was hard and inedible. We were disappointed as we hadn’t been to the restaurant for a while and thought we would try it again.

Top grade food perfectly spiced, and served. Indian food is my favoured cuisine, and rate the food here as the best in the area.

We were supposed to be on the North Yorks Moors Railway curry train, but it got cancelled, so we thought we'd try Shurovi. Friendly helpful service, varied menu and lovely food. If we lived in the area, we'd we regulars.

Sadly this place has gone completely downhill. We have eaten here many times and never had a bad meal. Last night we went to Shurovi and to be honest the whole experience was terrible. The waiters removed our cutlery and glasses from our table meaning we had to ask for them to be replaced the food was basically inedible due to the amount of salt prawns overcooked curry tasteless but salty the rice was so overcooked it had probably been left over from the day before. When we complained we got zero eye contact and a response that I obviously didn’t know what a curry should taste like.Total garbage never again

Having been told it was a two hour wait in the telephone, we waited and then proceeded to go and pick up our order. We then had to wait a further 90 minutes with around 15 other people in the restaurant whilst front of house staff scratched their heads. No apology was offered at any time! On return home, the meals were burnt and over spiced! Never again!

We were staying at a near by hotel and decided to visit Guisborough which was near by. The first thing we noticed was that the local people were so welcoming and helpful. We were guided to Shurovi by a local bar owner and we were quickly seated. Service was a little slow being that it ws Monday and staff was minumal. There were a large number of telephone orders being collected which did not help. None the less we enjoyed the meal and would not hesitate in recommending it to others.

We booked a table here after visiting their website. We booked for their sunday special £11.99, we got to restaurant and staff were wearing parka coats, upon questioning they said their boiler had broken down the day before. Not one member of staff had a mask on! We were seated and asked if we wanted popadom and pickles starter, we said we were there for the sunday special which included the popadom starters. We were then asked if we wanted drinks, but the bottles werent cold as they hadnt been put in fridge (the place was like a fridge with no heating on) so we opted for the draught kingfisher lager. The waiter came with the drinks and popadoms. The lager was totally flat and tasted disgusting, before we could say anything, another staff member came over and said, "We're not doing the sunday specials anymore!" I showed him their website which clearly showed they were! He was adamant they didnt, so we cut our losses, paid for what wed been served, (but left as was disgusting and left! Steer clear of this place!

Only had take aways from here so far. But not had one bad meal yet. Plan to have a seat in meal soon

Once a month, or so, I like to order an Indian - Shurovi's is my go-to. The food is always cooked to perfection with deliciously tender chicken. I tend to opt for naan bread - very generously sized portions and always taste very fresh.The chips are cooked to perfection - home-style chunky chips, not too greasy and always great with the curry.

We had been looking forward to coming here for months. With such a large party (16) it was difficult to get a time when everyone was free. We managed it and all went up there. When we arrived the staff completely ignored us and I had to go to the bar to ask for our table. We ordered drinks and the lager was warm so we switched to bottles but they ran out after one round. They took our order and 45 minutes later, no food. I asked where it was and the waiter said that we had already had our starters and we were just waiting for the mains. I explained that we had not received anything so off he went and didn't come back. The table behind us got up and left all their food saying it was cold and disgusting. I said to another member of staff that it was now an hour without any food and we were going to leave. He SHRUGGED HIS SHOULDERS!That was it then, we booked our return bus early and left. Meanwhile, at least 12 takeaways went out the door no problem. I just don't get it, no food, no apology and no explanation.Also, there was a huge table with all the remains of someone's meal and drinks that were there when we arrived and still there when we left.Absolute disgrace and it ruined our night. Like another reviewer said, go to the Indian Cottage, it has just been modernised and the service just has to be better than this dump. Avoid at all costs.

We’ve recently moved to the area , and had been told about, and recommended Shurovi. Well bottom line, we really wish we hadn’t been persuaded to dine here.At our time of life, late 50’s, and have sampled many restaurants throughout the world, firstly, I don’t expect to be kept waiting at a bar ( or should I say ignored) whilst four ( yes four) members of staff stand the other side of the bar trying to sort some drunken imbeciles takeaway order out !!Anyway after around five minutes we must have appeared in their eyesight, so I could introduce ourselves as a booking I had made for four people at 9.30.After a couple more minutes we were shown to our table. Menus and wine list brought over, then drinks order. We went off the wine list, and ordered the French rose at £15.50. The waiter then returned to say all they had was a Jacobs Creek rose. Ok that’s fine we said.We then had our food order taken. Popadoms, starters and mains, rice Nan breads.We then waited, and waited, and waited for the popadoms. In the meantime other diners had come in the restaurant, sat down , ordered, and got their popadoms.But we waited and waited again , until I got up and asked a waitress, where are our popadoms?…..They’re coming sir!!….Five minutes later they arrived, and then whilst we were almost HALF way through the popadoms our starters turned up!! Need less to say we sent them back, firstly as we hadn’t finished the popadoms, and secondly there was no room on the table for them!When they did finally come back out they were stone cold. You would have though that they would’ve had the gumption to have kept them warm in the kitchen, but oh no! It was as if it was the restaurants opening night and the staff had never waited on before!At this point we all had had enough and wanted to leave , however we had the mains which we left the majority of, and then asked for the bill. When the bill came, the substitute wine had been priced at £20 and not £15.50, but by this time I’d lost the will to live and couldn’t be bothered challenging it.I did have to smile though when I went up to pay on my credit card , as the waiter asked me if I’d like to add a tip for service!! I suppose in a strange sort of way this was the highlight of the evening!

We visited on a Saturday night and though the restaurant was busy, the staff were happy to slot the four of us in without a booking. The menu has all the usual suspects but also a pleasing range of chef’s specials. I asked the delightful waitress for her recommendation and was more than happy with my Chatt Masala. Our other dishes were all spot on, nicely prepared naans and veggie dishes. Service was friendly, without being intrusive.Not the cheapest, but given the quality of the food, it represented good value for money. Well worth a visit if you’re in Guisborough.

Unable to comment on the food as we didn't get any! We were in there an hour and no food was forthcoming. We asked after 45 mins what was happening to be told by the waitress she would find out, but she never came back to us. She was pleasant when she took our orders and brought water, and was very busy as seemed to be the only person working front of house dealing with orders, bar, payments and takeaways, with one other person bringing the food out. Probably they need more staff but an apology and explanation of any delay is surely best customer service. The food we did see being served looked and smelt very good, tantalising so in our very hungry state!

We had a delicious meal at Shirovi on 11th July our wedding anniversary. We were staying at a cottage nr Lealholm for the weekend and booked our meal at this amazing restaurant. We had the Sunday special menu which is amazing value for money. We were absolutely stuffed, we couldn't finish the massive Naan breads. It was so tasty and everything was cooked fresh. Staff are very helpful and polite. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant.

Very slow service - prioritising takeaway business for those sitting in the restaurant. Curry wasn’t the best - my chicken jal frezi had really tough dry chicken - not had food as bad in a restaurant for some time - both left without finishing and was asked if we’d like to leave a tip on the card when paying the bill....

Lovely venue, staff really friendly and the food was gorgeous. I would thoroughly recommend this place. You won’t be disappointed.

Staff are friendly and got us a table even though we hadn't booked. We have been here a lot of times and to be fair the food wasn't as good as it had been on previous visits

First and last time we’ll be ordering from here. No issues with the service and there were no major issues with our order but...3 out of 4 main meals weren’t enjoyed as they lacked any flavour and really didn’t taste like they were described. I think they were short of chicken too as our mains were more like a vegetarian dishes where a bit of chicken had snuck in. The first time we’ve ever binned more food than we’ve eaten. Much better places locally.

Shurovi, been my local Indian restaurant never fails to deliver. Customer service is always fantastic and the food is the same. From the large naan bread to the perfectly portioned dish you couldn’t ask for a better experience. I ordered as a takeaway, it was on time and piping hot - chicken was succulent and tender and the dish was full of flavour. The chips are perfectly cooked and home made thick cut style, no doubt the best in town, if not the entire area. Would highly recommend Shurovi to anyone.

Beautiful food. I could no decide what to eat so I asked the chef to make me a meal I would like It was delicious he nailed it. The naan bread is fresh and perfect. Staff are lovely. Particularly the lady. She is fabulous. I definitely recommend

Superb, our go to takeaway these days. Slim pickings in the immediate area, but dont mind a drive up to Guisborough, not been disappointed once.

I have eaten at Shurovi and ordered take aways many times. The staff know me by name and remember what I like to order as well as remember what I had ordered the previous time visiting. I am always greeted by a friendly face! Highly highly recommended!!

Great food we went twice but had big probs when came to splitting bill one had to pay full amount and everyone else had to pay that one back

Well in these difficult times it's good to have some comfort, and friendly atmosphere. See my other posts we (the lamb boys) as this restaurant have affectionately dubs been visiting the restaurant for a long time. Why because the food is the best Indian in the area we've been all over and this is the best. The staff are friendly and always take the time to ask how things are. I love this place and especially number 22 south Indian chilli and garlic i encourage everyone to try it. But guys don't give our usual table away!

Myself and 5 friends visited this Indian restaurant last night and I have to say it was absolutely fantastic! The restaurant was very busy and there was certainly enough waiters to give excellent service! We all had a curry each and shared some rices and breads for the table. I personally had the king prawn bhuna which was highly recommended to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it! A big thank you to Sammy our waiter for looking after us!A great evening and we will be back!

Unplanned visit on a busy "eat in" Tuesday. As always, the meal was exceptionally good. I would recommend the Tandoori Mixed Grill.

decided to give this place a try, having never been here before, after our local Indian Was fully booked with ‘eat out, help out diners’. We were really happy with the quality of food, service, prices and cleanliness...what a great little find. Being over 60 and not been out for months we were very happy with the social distancing measures they’ve put in place and we felt very comfortable and at ease in there. We will definitely be back and would definitely recommend

Top notch Indian food!! I use them week after week!! They have kept me supplied with my favourite dishes delivered to my home throughout lockdown, taking all precautions to keep them and me safe!! I can not fault them at all!!!

I would just like to say that the food here is absolutely outstanding & the staff are so lovely & friendly.So During the coronavirus lockdown we decided to use Shurovi for an Indian takeaway meal after eating at home every day We regularly use other the Indian in the town but unfortunately they were closed because of the virus But I’m pleased about this because we have found an amazing new place to eat We have been having a weekly takeaway on a Saturday night and I have tried various dishes over the last 6 weeks or so Everything I have had has been beautiful But Tonight I tried the beef Adraki Well I have to say it was out of this world In the way of tastes the beef was so tender Chicken tikka & Chicken Bhuna are my other family members choice which are also amazing followed by vegetable & plain pilau rice garlic & pashwari nans and not forgetting the homemade chips to accompany this Well worth the 1 hour wait because it’s done with love and care Thanks Shurovi team

Outstanding. We ordered takeaway for our daughters birthday due to lockdown. The food was stunning. We ordered mixed kebab starter which was juicy and very tasty. Then we had a chicken bhuna, South Indian garlic chilli chicken and a chicken jalfrezzi. Poppadoms and naans finished our order and it was outstanding. Service was excellent and I can tell you the curries were just Moreish. I would totally recommend the south I Indian curry. On the specials. Will definitely be ordering throughout the lockdown. Delicious, authentic Asian food delivered to your door. Shurovi continue to look after their customers during the recent COVID 19 episode. Succulent chicken jalfrezi with extra chillis, mixed kebab starter both out of this world. Speedy delivery, with social distancing observed. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough, thank you Sami and your wonderful team.

Our first visit here and found everything is was good. Food was red hot and tasty. Service was excellent and friendly and was good value. Can't wait to go back again.

Great tasty meal, we started with poppadoms and dips and followed up with mixed kebab and onion bargies . Dipped out on rice but went for chicken tikka mushroom balti and loved it served with a garlic naan verse chefs special curry and Peshawar naan all washed down with the obligatory lagers. Spellings may not be perfect but the food was spot on !

Won't be hurrying back, night was quiet but service was slow, we almost had to beg to be served. Food was average. Good choice of beer and place was clean and modern.

Have ordered take sways many times from here and love the food. Recently very disappointed about being told meal will be ready to collect in 20-25 minutes: organised arrival time with thus in mind, to then have to wait another 15-20 minutes at the venue for the food to be ready. Very off putting

I ordered a meal with my friends and I can honestly say it was one of the best Indian meals I’ve had. I ordered Korma, the chicken was cooked perfectly and very tender. The naan bread which was very large tasted great (Garlic). Both my friends said their meals were great too.

We had a take away delivered from here on new year's eve. It was late which was understandable given the date. Lovely meal though. Would definitely use it again.

We had a brilliant night with a friendly welcome and excellent food, which was delicious and very good value. Generous portions and very good choice of dishes. Could not suggest any improvements as it was spot on. Can't wait to go back.

Family meal with five of us Staff were slow to serve and our waiter didn’t smile at all. He actually got our order wrong and seemed unhappy to bring us serving spoons! Food flavours were good but the service let the restaurant down

This is one of the best Indian meals we have had. It would be difficult to not find something to like on their comprehensive menu. Friendly staff and good food.

Had a takeaway last night, not very good at all. When I think I can do better that says it all, considering the wife won't let me in the kitchen.

Recently had a takeaway from here, I had a Chicken Korma.

This was a second time I had been recently. The first time the chicken was not marinaded and was the same the second time. Disappointed. Will not be going again.

We went to this restaurant yesterday for the first time and this is by far the nicest Indian food we have tried.

We have eaten here every weekend for the last three and feel therefore I can informatively comment on consistency and quality of food.

I promise this review will be brutal and honest.

Here as a visitor and was recommended this place... it wasn't great.

The most disgusting and embarrassing experience in a restaurant I have ever had the misfortune to be involved in. The service was horrendous the food was horrible I sent mine back would not eat there the serving plate was cracked all the way through it black with mould and what ever else on if my friend that was with me was I'll with in 30 mins of leaving and when complained about the latter was dissmisted . All in all a very bad experience and souls of know better as this was very similar to the last experience a number of years ago .. will never ever go again !!!!!

We have been dining and getting take aways from here for years and would consider ourselves loyal customers.

I’ve eaten here and had takeaways before and it’s been the best in the area. But the last meal was terrible for me. I say that because I know it’s a matter of taste to some extent. I always pick side dishes - dhal, aloo bhaji, saag aloo because they are mild. But the last ones were hot - way too hot for me - my face went numb and my throat was burning. Perhaps I should have specified mild - but I have never ever had to before when it comes to side dishes. A complete waste for me - but, as I said, matter of taste. Once bitten, twice shy for me I’m afraid. Would be interested in restaurant response as to whether sides do vary in heat according to the chef on that night.

We had an excellent curry in Guisborough at Shurovi. We found that all dishes were excellent and the service was also very good. We would return if we were in the area.

We went with a friend. Easily the best Indian meal we have eaten for years. I would recommend this restaurant wholeheartedly. We went early on a Sunday evening. The food is well cooked with maximum flavour, beautifully presented and plentiful. The service was attentive without being over effusive. And, the trade in its takeaway service confirms that the local population agree with me. Quality food at reasonable prices.

Shurovi serves fine Indian food and is a great place to visit if out in Guisborough. The staff are very welcoming and friendly and always give excellent customer service. The menu offers some lovely dishes and some of the specialty dishes are worth a try.

Called in in the hope of a good curry-didn’t check it out on Trip Advisor first so it was a risk-it ended up being one of the best curries I’ve had for a very long time-we are just visiting the area but if not it would definitely be our first choice if we lived nearby it was delicious and the service was very good too. I had the Lamb Bhuna and the meat melted in your mouth it was so tender. Highly recommend it.

Just back from a meal in this restaurant. I had lamb and spinach balti and it was fabulous. The lamb melted in my mouth and the dish had just the right amount of spice. Very fresh. Can thoroughly recommend this restaurant .

Visited today for a takeaway meal, the service and food is second to none. I had chicken chat massala, chicken perfectly cooked and very tasty. Definitely be visiting again.

Visited Shurovi on a Friday evening. Staff were friendly and knowledgable of the menu. Food was tasty, and was good value for money.
