Been going here over 20 years. THE BEST CHICKEN KORMA on the planet! Tried most indians in the area nothing comes near to the cottage! Even the big names like Akbars etc. They even do customized rices i get fried onion pilau which is so tasty and delicious. Compliments the korma so well. Never got sick of it in two decades so that tells you how good it is.

Called up for a table but it was collection only. I wasn’t sure about take away but decided to get one anyway. The food was absolutely delicious. The lamb & chicken were so tender the whole meal was full of flavour & the bread just melted in your mouth. I will definitely be choosing the Indian cottage over my usual Indian take away in the future

I've never been a fan of frozen chips, despite most places using them. My naan bread had traces of red meat sauce from the kiln, i thought they had a separate kiln for anything that is veggie. Half of the restaurant is now being used for storage and the lighting is not right. Come on Gam please sort what you can from this.

Bought a takeaway as the restaurant isn't open. Moved away years ago and came back for a visit, no other Indian makes lamb sag as good as the Indian Cottage and the didn't disappoint, I had this with the special spicy rice and it was delicious. Another cash only takeaway. Staff nice but food inedible. I'm sure this place was very good 20 years ago but now its very tired looking. Food smelt, looked and tasted like it was cooked 3 days earlier. Tandoori chicken was closer to resembling an offensive weapon rather than a tasty chicken starter and more useful to a diy'er for knocking nails in rather than eating. Its a shame because staff where really friendly. Pretty much the worse indian food I've eaten, or should say ordered, as it went in the bin.

Absolute rubbish, didn't smell or taste anything like an Indian curry, just meat and gravy with chilli powder, no vegetables like onions, peppers, any Indian spices were even in the curry, the pilau rice was so salty it was inedible, the onion bajis were black, how can you think that is OK and the nan bread was also black, the whole lot went in the bin.

I have used the Indian Cottage several time for takeaway food and it has always been good. Last night Monday 25th September, we ordered and collected an assortment of dishes and the food was mostly inedible, a chicken Dansak that was so hot in was tasteless and none of us were able to eat it, vegetable curry, sag aloo, and mushroom bhaji all heavily spiced rendering them tasteless, tandoori chicken starter very dry, the only dish remotely edible was a chicken Ceylon and this did not taste like any chicken Ceylon I have ever had, no taste of coconut just over spiced. Altogether a very disappointing experience, I will not be using them again, Shame. Bill Brookes

There is a focus on quantity rather than quality. Our first visit for takeaway and our last. Yes we received large portions but the prawn puri was oily and the chicken tikka (main and balti versions) consisted of processed cubes of chicken. Yes red in colour but no spice. The naan wasn’t great either. Very doughy

Always grand. The quantity is very, very generous as is the taste-one of the best I've ever had, genuinely. The service is also great, with collections and deliveries as far as I'm aware. I gather it's one of the owners who manually hands the bag of food over, politely reminding to support the bag if necessary-very conscientious. It's damn hot in there for my liking, but many places are this way. It's also not directly in town, so not too busy outside; convenient, friendly, very tasty and I always have spare for the next day. Moreover, it's a pleasure to have such a lovely business local. I very much appreciate the cottages presence in guisborough

If you know what you want then you can order off menu too and they will be more than happy to do it. Wouldn't even give one star, the food was disappointing, the table was old and unclean, the drinks glasses had floaters in and clearly hadn't been washed, the naan breads were more pancakes, and the man as jolly as he was placed 3 plates on top of our naan breads because the table was too small. Also the communal waiting table was pointless and took half the room and everything was on draft so no carlsberg, also the soft drinks were a sickly sweet taste and were flat so they had been left open for a while.

The guy at the till was flustered and when my friend said she had chicken tikka instead of the chicken tikka masala be became quite argumentative suggesting she had got it wrong and perhaps wouldn't pay. The lady behind the bat did try and help us out and suggested how to order next time if we wanted to pay separate. That's if there is a next time tbh.

I loath writing anything negative reviews about food service as it’s a tough job to be in. However, to be charged for such disgraceful food is a crime. I’d been told that the Indian Cottage was the place to try as I’m familiar with other outlets in Guisborough who are good. Oh my God I wish I hadn’t! Onion bhajis were greasy but to be honest, the best of the whole meal. You have to order mint sauce and charged separately (I’ve NEVER heard of this) as it doesn’t come as standard to accompany the dish, but the owner sternly stated that’s the way it is ALWAYS served and they’d been in business 31 years... Gallons of the stuff came in a takeaway silver tray. It’s likely this will be their last year in business after my experience and reading other reviews. The chicken tikka. Just look at the photo attached to this review. Believe me, it tasted worse than it looked. One piece was tried and then abandoned. Way way way overcooked to the likes of rubber but also with the most unappealing colour. I’m certain it had not seen the inside of a tandoor as I couldn’t see the usual skewer holes. As I entered the kitchen this morning to clear away the huge amounts of leftovers, I physically wretched looking at that so-called chicken tikka. The peshwari naan was odd and tasted undercooked. I’ve travelled the world but I have to say this is my worst food experience ever!

As a fairly frequent visitor to the area, I decided to try the Indian Cottage as an alternative to the other Indian in Guisborough. The reviews were largely encouraging and the pictures of the food looked nice. However that's as positive as it gets. The food unfortunately was simply awful and the worst Indian takeaway I have ever had. The Madras was bland and watery, with the chicken appearing like it had been added to the sauce at the end of the cooking process. It was completely unappetizing. The Bhuna was sadly no better and devoid of any sauce. The chicken tikka was simply inedible - I think the photos say it all. Worst £48.50 I have ever spent on food. Strongly recommend if you are a discerning lover of Indian food you find an alternative.

After hearing great reviews about Indian Cottage I took a mate who was visiting as he loves a great Indian meal. After being seated at our table we ordered popadoms while we looked at the menu. The lime pickle had a strange taste with it and I am a big lime pickle fan. I ordered the tandoori mixed grill with a vegetable naan. They don’t do peshwari naan (?) Tandoori mixed grills normally arrive on a metal skillet sizzling hot and smoking and what arrived was on this plate. The meat wasn’t really that good and wasn’t really that hot in temperature wise. The vegetable naan was ok. My mate naan was bad and and called a waiter over. He looked at the naan and said he would order another one it was very doughy and not cooked properly. He said they were cooked on a hot plate and not in a tandoor. A replacement arrived which was hot and covered in melted butter. I left most of my meal I’m not impressed and if people think this is a good Indian meal maybe try something from a supermarket and use a microwave. Staff were friendly and helpful in trying to resolve issues but the food is a major disappointment. On the search now for a decent local Indian restaurant

Walked in at 10.30pm on a Friday evening and asked for a table for 4, jabba the hut who was on duty this evening did not seem to be so accommodating and promptly told us they were shutting in 45 minutes. No offer of a table or option to order quickly just a blank look. She/it then went to liaise with a more senior member to ask if we could eat there. It still never actually conversed with us to confirm if eating in a restaurant was feasible or not! Needless to say we walked out never to return, shame as the food looked and smelt really good!

Takeaway ordered arrived covered in grease we used a whole roll of kitchen paper to clean hands 1 curry ate other tried to but it also had odd tiny Chucks of rubber chicken as well as the normal, unfortunately we have liked this place before now it’s a no go
