Interesting first time with a hot pot. Never tried this before, had no idea what to order. Eventually one if the staff came over to help, and they were helpful. Interesting experience - fun, but quite messy and some truly authentic Chinese ingredients if you are brave enough!. Went for the spicy pot, broth and tomato pots - well worth having the options as we all liked different pots. Beef and prawns were good dipped, chicken ok. Need some veg and noodles with it. Not your traditional British Chinese restaurant but a lot of fun. Seating could have been more comfortable. Would go again. Finally the Chinese aromas that hit you when you enter is just fabulous.

We went there for dinner on the first day of Chinese New Year. It was fairly crowded and we had to queue outside for around half an hour. The male staff who was in charge of handling the queue was not friendly. Inside the restaurant, the service was ok, just ok. Hotpot, on the other hand, was delicious. We ordered extra spicy soup base and it was really good. The deep fried mantou and crispy pork were tasty too. Unfortunately, there wasn't a salad/make-your-own-dipping-sauce bar.

We managed to get a reservation for 4 people on CNY, we expected it to be busy but with our reservation expected no issues to get our table. However we showed up at our reservation time and were told to wait outside, we spent 20+ minutes waiting for our table before finally leaving as we were given no information about how long it would take and walk-ins who had queued up were being let in before us. I understand that CNY is a very busy night however we had a reservation for a table, so the waiting and lack of information on how long we’d be out waiting caused us to leave.

Interesting restaurant - hot pot is very popular and we were guided to pick two broths for variety but especially as we intended to order the chilli Szechuan beef broth which is extremely spicy!! Ordered lots of meats, fish and vegetables to cook in the broth and it was fun and enjoyable. Didn't order enough rice or noodles however and had to reorder more. Had a beer each and total cost £33 each which was decent for the quality and quantity. Did suffer the following day!!

🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩 I visited Shy Xiang ge hot pot on the 8th of January with my partner, and it was the most disappointing dining experience I’ve ever had in my life . A fail, and as a good example of what bad customer service looks like . We walked in after looking for any hot pot place in China town .We walked in and were seated promptly .We got sat in the worst spot in front of the cashiers desk , with the waiter with short black hair who would end up staring at us the whole night , and look away quickly after I caught him staring at me . My partner asked to move to a back dining area as the table was quite low for him and were told the area was closed off , even though a lady was seated there afterwards. Anyway , the first red flag for me was the lack of cleanliness as the hot cooking plate had soup splatter all over it , would have taken 2 seconds to clean !🙄 We were given the menus , I selected normal spice for the hotpot and ordered . No bowls were given even though we ordered noodles and meat but ok . As this was our first time eating hot pot we quite unsure how to cook it , and I made a bit of a mess. The staff just stared at us . Another red flag was the spicy broth it was overly spicy - and I am speaking from someone who ate Indonesian food the night before, and who generally has a good spice tolerance . Soup was so spicy the food was hard to eat for me. The two soups we ordered lacked so much flavour , meat was average . Instead of staff helping us give us the other dishes as the cart next to the table was quite low , they just stared at us . At one point , the two waiters , the manager I assume , and waitress were all round the cashiers desk laughing at us . I felt very embarrassed which is horrible ! We were asked if we wanted to order more food after, we ordered . 2minutes after the waiter comes to take payment with his card machine In our faces, no communication or asked how was our meal was . Nothing ! My partner asked to take off the service charge , and the waiter crumples up the receipt in his hand . Me and my partner couldn’t stay any long and didn’t finish any of our food . I spoke to the manger after we paid , I brought up how the staff were very unhelpful and rude and was not given even a sorry , just “ I’ll let them know “ very unsympathetic . We left very upset and humiliated . I just hope no one else is treated this way ever in the future .But from a look at the Google reviews another lady , @Carmen Rivera , has had the same experience as me . Which is very sad on Shy Xiang hot pots part . If I could give this restaurant 0 stars I would .Take this as a warning and go at your own risk . If you want to waste your money!

I arrived at the place around 7 pm and they took me to a table upstairs. On the table, there was a menu where we can fill in the hot pot side items and type of broth I want. As I had never been to a restaurant like this before, I immediately asked the two waiters for help to show me some options. Only one of them spoke English (average) and he seemed very rude and without any patience to explain me. Furthermore, when my order arrived, I felt very uncomfortable throughout the entire meal as they both kept staring, commenting and blatantly laughing in Chinese about my performance eating with the typical cutlery. I felt very disrespected! As if that wasn't enough, when I finished and finally went to the ground floor to pay and leave that place, I went to the basement bathroom because it was very cramped and one of the employees followed me and kept an eye on me (as if I was intending to leave without pay). I noticed this because when I left the toilet stall, I heard a person running up the stairs and 'winking' at the manager at the register when I arrived. Finally, I paid and left this xenophobic service behind. I don't recommend this restaurant to anyone, unless you like paying a lot and being poorly served.

I was one of your customers. I had been served very badly today. Therefore, I would like to raise this case with your management. My friends and I (6 people in total) planned to have the hot pot at Shuxiangge in Chinatown. At 1 p.m. on the afternoon of 14th Jan 2024, I arrived alone first and asked the staff member if I could have a table for 6. He immediately refused me and said I had to wait at the entrance until the other 5 friends arrived. I was shocked and said I had been here many times before, but I had never been told these ridiculous rules. Especially there were a lot of empty tables at that time. The staff member just reiterated that this is their policy. Afterwards, one of my friends arrived as well. I asked if we could take seats now. However, the staff ignored my question. I cannot bear with this kind of service and we left. Could you let me know if this is your service quality? Or do you think it is a polite way to serve customers? I am very confused about the reason don’t let me take a seat while there are many tables available. Could you explain? Thanks

Genial!!! Vielen Dank!!!

THIS IS BY FAR THE WORST RESTAURANT I HAVE EVER VISITED IN MY LIFE So it starts with the not very nice waiter who gave us seats in front of the cash register, even though the place was almost empty. (I don't mind being close to the register, but it has another problem, I'll get to it later) So, I have been to hot pot places before, but this one seemed different, no salad bar or clear indications. The waiter just stood there, in front of us, without looking at us after giving us a paper where we had to mark down what we wanted... not a problem with that one, we could imagine what we had to do. But there were very few vegetable options compared to other hot pot places, so we wondered there might be a hidden vegetable bar somewhere at the place so we decided to ask how it worked. The waiter told us with a tone implying we were stupid, how it 'worked' and it was basically the same we could imagine (mark what you want on the paper) So we went with the mild spicy broth. I can handle spicy, but it was outrageously spicy, considering I'm Mexican and used to spicy. After giving us the food, 3 waiters stood in front of us, basically looking at us eat and talking between them in Chinese, possibly making fun of us as we couldn't handle the spicy broth. We definitely looked like foreigners so a warning or instruction written somewhere would have been nice. They also didn't give us a bowl or spoon (it is a broth for gods sake, were we supposed to eat with chopsticks?), just a flat plate and chopsticks, we had to ask for it... cause the 4 waiters were probably very busy on the empty restaurant As if it weren't enough, the prices were ridiculous considering the amount of food you got for every side dish. 4 pounds for a very small size of rice we were supposed to share for 2 people? 4 pounds for 10 leaves of spinach? But again, honestly price wouldn't be that much of an issue if the service were at least better.

I visited this place last month for my very first hotpot experience which i was very anxious about as i am Vegetarian. From the very beginning the staff was very friendly and helpful with any questions we had. For 2 people we ordered: • 3 broth pot - Beef Broth (which i personally didn’t try), Tomato Broth (was delicious) and Mushroom Broth (this one was very mild, overall good but i preferred tomato) • my boyfriend got 2 types of meat: crunchy pork and beef slices - you can see those on left and right side at the picture, the meat was fresh and he enjoyed it • Tofu Platter (on left middle side of the picture) - a plate full of different tofu pieces which i loved • Glass/Rice noodles (on right middle side of the picture) - i was genuinely surprised with the size of those i expected way thinner noodles. After cooking they were so chewy and i enjoyed them a lot • Marinated Lotus Slices - i always wanted to try lotus and i loved the texture and crunchiness • Seasame Oil Garlic - i definitely recommend it it elevates taste of so many ingredients to the next level! • Potato Slices - it’s the only ingredient i personally wouldn’t recommend as potatoes take a while to cook in the broth but it was still good • Vegetable Platter - it’s a little box of leaf greens, lettuce and napa cabbage were very fresh and crunchy. The only problem was as it was written on the menu as vegetable platter i expected some cucumber or carrot but you get only leaves. It was delicious anyways! • Rice cakes as a dessert - it was my first time having them and i loved the chewiness and sweetness So for 2 people we ordered quite too much, I wasn’t expecting the servings to be so big so naturally we weren’t able to finish everything we ordered so it was a little embarrassing. During our whole meal (1.5hish) the staff was checking on our hotpot - adjusting the temperature or adding more water if the broth evaporated. For 2 people we came to 106£ total (with drinks etc) which was mostly caused by over-ordering ingredients. I wish the menu put the information about how many grams or slices you get per serving so we would avoid this problem. We got offered by the staff to take home all the things we haven’t finished. And the last thing which doesn’t regard food or staff: was very pleasantly surprised when i went to the bathroom and realised they provide menstrual hygiene products like pads! It definitely made an extra point to the whole review. We left the place very full and happy, definitely a place to come back to, but probably in a group of 4 to get more value!

Not sure why Chinese restaurants in China Town have grumpy staff. I don’t know if it’s a trend or not. I know it gets busy during the day and night, but a little smile can also bring in customers even though lots are waiting outside. It also changes the atmosphere inside the restaurant if everyone smiles. So far, the only people they smile at are the people they have the same nationality. The atmosphere was like the staff are super tired that when we call them they push one of their staff to come to our table and take our order. The food was okay. Lots of selection and lots of Sichuan incorporated dishes. It's easier to get in if there are only two of you, but when you’re in a group, it’s harder since you have to wait for a group to finish their meal. I just wish they also communicate not just in mandarin or cant obese but also in proper English. They are in and English country and it’s best to also learn the language as well - for people who are not multilingual.

This restaurant is a really bad one, bad food and bad survices. We came for dinner around 7:30pm, when we sat down, we had to wait for ten minutes but no one gave us the menu. We had to ask for it. we ordered hot pot soup and 4 topping, but the guy, I guess he was a manger asked us to order one more topping. To our suprised as the menu did not limited how much of minimum you have to order. We thought, it would be ok to order more. When the food came, its quality was too bad, especially beef, taste like it was nearly rotten. The meat topping and fish topping were unfresh. Each topping we ordered came with very small portions but with cutting throat price. The service was too aweful, as I mentioned, we sat down for ten minutes, no one gave us menu, we had to ask for it. All staff looked very indifferent, tired. they always stayed away from you, look like, they were afraid if they glance at you, you will ask them for something. At our table, the sauce was emtied, we had to ask for it. No one bothered to check on us, everytime I need something, I need to look for them, and they do it very indifferently. We ended up with a bill of 63 pounds for two people with the trash service and foods. Needed to mention that they charged 12.5% of value of the meal for their service. How funny is it. My advice for you is that stay away from this restaurant to protect your money and your health.

This restaurant is over-priced and racist. They will serve white people better than Asian people. Come on. If you do business like that no one will come to you again.

Lovely unusual Chinese meal - we loved every single dish we ate!! And it has a fairly friendly atmosphere for a Chinatown Chinese restaurant. We were lucky enough to be there on Chinese NY day so we were treated to the spectacle of the Dragon entering the restaurant and eating a cabbage suspended from the doorway. The drinks are a total scam - £14 for a little bottle of Perrier - but it’s Chinatown so, go figure. Definitely recommend and will def be back.

Went for lunch for dim sum. Was reasonable but nothing exciting. The Bao buns were decent but I have had better in Chinatown. The service contrary to other reviews was quick and attentive, but there was only one other couple in the restaurant. Decent enough but I am sure there better options within the vicinity.

This will be the last time to have hotpot in this brand. What an awful experience!!! The reason why I had hotpot owing to I expected to have better quality of the ingredients. This is the third time I had hotpot in this restaurant (twice in London ) and this is the worst hotpot ever in my life. The service is moderate, London is worse. The hotpot base had no flavour what so ever. Extra spicy is extra chilly powder (that’s horrible!!!!). No natural spices aroma. Definitely not authentic Chinese hotpot. Ruined my appetite. Self sauce section: many had out of stock, the missing fruits they couldn’t border the fill it up. You ended up pay for the same but had less. Ingredients: hotpot is all about fresh ingredients and base. Unbelievable, they had used the ingredients I would ever eat. I didn’t touch much about meat. Its colour freaked me out. Perhaps during the New year they couldn’t stock fresh one. However, I wouldn’t expect they serve that kinda stuff on the table where to low down their standards. I might’ve overrated the brand. That was a mistake. This is a way to destroy a customer’s loyalty. I am done with it.

A bit expensive and the quantity of the dishes don't match up to its price. Prices will rise during Christmas, ignore what the waiters may tell you, all drink prices will rise 50%. And please make sure to bring cash with you during holidays unless you have WeChat payment.

Been to this place more than once, the first few times are fine, they accept card payments and the provide good service. But ever since I last been there, they seem to be avoiding tax. Card machines are forever said broken, and they tell you this rudely on the second you open their door. They have no sign of apology for this issue and looked annoyed. Moreover, few of my friends said they saw that they saw them having multiple card machines at the counter. They can’t be all broken in months.

From the moment I sat down with my family, I could noticed the lack of attention to our table. When our food was served it was as if they were chucking the food on the table. The whole time the staff was gossiping amongst themselves while serving us. Zero consideration for our comfort or level of satisfaction. The food was ok but pissed me off the most was when I took out my bank card to pay, the server snatched it from my hand and started to apply the card by himself. He didn’t even show me the bill. What kind of behaviour is that? When I asked for the bill, he slammed it on the table. Never going back ever again.

As a second time experience to hot pot the experience was great. The food was reasonably priced. We are quite a lot as we were experiencing the whole thing as newbies. £40 pp then wasn’t too bad based on how much we ordered (with drinks). I have been to other places in china town. Service is not the best but once you lower your expectations it’s all about the food.

Shu Xiang Ge Hot Pot have a delicious selection of hotpot ingredients with a clean, modern atmosphere. To order, you would need to choose your toppings by filling in a sheet that was given. The food served were enjoyable and easy to cook in the pot. They have a variety of soup bases, cooked dishes, steamed and raw (for the hotpot). Portions were mediocre, some were more than others, if you are coming in a bigger party of 4+ then I recommend to get 2x of each dish or more than usual. The staff here all assumed we were able to speak Chinese. Therefore, there was a lot of confusion. I find that many Chinese restaurants in Chinatown all assume that, or places like Thai or Vietnamese do not. I had to ask the waiters a few times or repeat my words for them to understand. However the staff were friendly and welcoming! I was amazed by the interior and especially in the room past the bathroom. They have stunning backgrounds and brightly lit - family friendly. I found it cool that they have napkins in a drawer at the side of the table, for self service and 2 charging ports (this does not work however). The area was spacious with a trolley to hold sauces and order dishes - this would greatly help the spacing of the table which many restaurants do not do. Additionally, this place only accepts cash and it may be pricey, check their menu and prices outside before entering! Queues are long!

A step down from the comprehensive experience and service given at Haidilao, but we chose to go to this spot as the wait there (as it is on any weekend), may have nearly been 2 hours. It’s table service only for the hot pot, which must be chosen off a menu, and there is no bar for the sauces, which must be ordered in advance. But otherwise - a very decent hot pot, good quality of lamb and beef especially, loved the mushroom selection and egg noodles too. The broths were nicely flavoured and we opted for the choice of three: tomato, pork broth, and beef tallow - nicely flavoured and absolutely perfect for the cold weather. Loses a star due to slightly high price for lacklustre service, as has been commented before.
