It was horrible. The worst and most disgusting Chinese food we've ever had... we ordered vegetable curry and duck, and unfortunately, it wasn't tasty at all. On top of that, my husband was in the restroom, and they asked me in a momentary silence that they wanted to give the table to new guests. We couldn't even order a drink or dessert. At the table next to us, the waitress simply threw the leftovers under the table, along with the cigarettes.

We were sitting outside. We'd finished eating. My husband went inside for a quick restroom break. During that time, I was kicked out and had to leave so the next guests could sit down. It's outrageous how people are treated there. The chicken curry was also really bad.

Had a dinner dimsum with the family the other day, Dinner Dimsum?? yes, you heard right, dimsum for dinner! Its actually available as an all day menu here in London. The dimsum is delicious and typical Hong Kong style affair, the staff were friendly and pricing is in the expected price range for a Chinese restaurant in London. Overall a very good experience at the Golden Phoenix.

I have never been to a restaurant with such a bad service and bad food. They serve you like they are doing favour, they judge you and tell you price for the items before they serve you, also they say it compulsory to pay service charge. Would not recommend anyone going here and giving them business

This was my go to spot for dim sum when I was still living in london. Came here after 5 years and its still as good and authentic as I remember. You cant really go wrong with any of the dim sum dishes, they are all delicious, however, as with everything, the prices have been raised by quite a lot. I always recommend the chang fen and the hak gau. The others like chicken feet, short ribs, dumplings, baozi etc were also very delicious and hits the spot. The beef pastry, I was rather meh about it because it was too sweet for my taste but it was the favourite of my sis, so it depends on the taste. However my absolute favourite is the desert, the coconut milk with tapioca. I had dreams about it and after years was finally able to try it again and goodness, as perfect as it was. Located in china town, there are a lot of visitors so you might have to wait before getting to a table. They have two floors and somehow ive always been seated on the upper floor which I actually dont mind because its quieter there. The service, well, the staff isnt known as the friendliest but like they say, thats how you know the food is good. Also one thing i noticed that they ask you several times, by several staff, if you are allergic to something. Another thing is that the tableware isnt exactly the cleaniest, there are some stains that seem to not get out even if you wash it. Apart from all that, you cant deny the food it good even if everything else feels a little rundown.

Purtroppo la cena ci ha deluso. Posto ok situato a chinatown, soho . Abbiamo ordinato tofu in agrodolce e riso gamberi piselli e carne.

We came here based on the recent TimeOut review and despite the 3.5 star Google rating at the time. We came mid-week outside UK holidays and just after the lunch rush (13:30), so the restaurant was busy enough but had a fair number of empty tables. We had the crispy duck with orange, a selection of dim sum and some bak choi with garlic. Everything came fast, was hot and absolutely delicious. The service was friendly enough (I've had MUCH worse in London Chinese restaurants) and the atmosphere is nice for Chinatown, with the big staircase and slightly over the top decorations. Prices are as expected for the most touristy destination in town but not unreasonable.

I understand the large number of customers coming and going but unfortunately the service leaves something to be desired. The waiters are in a hurry to make you order when the menu is huge and you have to understand what to eat since many dishes are unknown. Unfortunately I tried the ravioli with meat and prawns but they were glue, probably because they were prepared first they became very glutinous and difficult to eat. Then I tried some stir-fried rice noodles with pork and they were good and confirm that a few simple dishes are better than many and poorly managed ones.

One of the nicest interiors in Chinatown, reminiscent of a typical HK restaurant. The service here is always friendly and accommodating. The food here can be good for a quick fix, but better dishes can be found elsewhere. Their fried rice is consistently good, a sign of a competent Chinese restaurant, but their dim sum can only be described as mediocre.

This was perhaps the worse Chinese food I ever had! The slices pork tasted like boiled chicken, the choisum vegetable dish was limp and the overcooked noodles with crab must have had invisible crab since we never saw a piece! The food was fine - they have a large menu so I couldn't sample everything, but the dishes were of decent enough quality, and the service was quick and efficient. What ruined my experience was the fact that they add a 12.5% service charge / surcharge which is not optional - when I asked for it to be removed from the bill, the waitress told me that she couldn't and pointed to the first page of the menu (which has a lot of pages) where there was a small sticker at the bottom explaining that 12.5% would be added. I've never before known a restaurant to have a mandatory service charge and I'm not sure it's legal. Given the prices are pretty high to start with (around £20 for a main dish), I left feeling a bit ripped off.

From a dim sum perspective, this restaurant is very good. Not the biggest of selections, but we had the greatest hits of classic dim sum and all were excellent. No off-flavors, which can sometimes be found in shrimp and pork products. The food was hot and fresh. The service is good for Chinatown. When we came in we were greeted by a lady who didn’t say hello or smile once- she just told us it was last orders (we’d been to a show), gestured to a table and walked off. Within 5 minutes we had 3 people come to ask what food we wanted and left with eyes of daggers as we asked for a minute more. I didn’t know there was no dim sum after 9pm so was disappointed already. The worst thing we ordered was the ribs which were more like 6 rocks of pig ankle covered in builders cafe ketchup and stank of vinegar which we couldn’t eat. Nothing could make me go back here. They refused to take off the discretionary service charge after we tried to tell them we were unsatisfied with the very bland food AND the severe lack of service - had to ask for water multiple times before someone finally brought some , had to call someone new over anytime we needed an extra utensil, another glass of water, etc as nobody checked on us or ensured that we had what we needed during the meal. The lady we asked to remove the service charge walked away as soon as we started explaining that we were a bit disappointed and did not even listen to why we were unhappy. She said it “does not let her on the system” and cut us off mid sentence . She was very condescending when we paid the bill. We walked out feeling scammed and mistreated. We arrived at the restaurant at 8:15 p.m. We chose among many other restaurants in ChinaTown because of their beautiful frontage and interesting menu. We returned, a very brief welcome. We felt watched by the staff who were waiting for us to choose our meal, coming several times in say 2 minutes, several different employees, to find out if we had chosen. The drink arrived straight away, and the meal the next minute… the food was ok but nothing more for the price. We ate and felt watched once again by the staff who, we could see, were eager for us to finish and leave. Barely finished the meal, the cutlery had barely been placed on the plate, they immediately came to clear our table. No offer of dessert or coffee, one of the servers had completely removed the tablecloth from the table. The message was clear, we want to close so leave. We left at 8:50 p.m. 35 minutes in the restaurant in total. I have never spent so little time in a restaurant and had the feeling that we were being kicked out (I should point out that the end of service was normally indicated for 10 p.m.). To flee

The rice tasted stale, as if it had languished in a rice cooker for far too long, and the chicken curry was disappointingly watery. The only redeeming dish was the crab soup, which was just about acceptable. To make matters worse, the meal was shockingly overpriced, and the service left much to be desired. I had lunch with my family here and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the food! We had previously visited another Chinese restaurant nearby, but the food at this restaurant definitely tasted better and felt more authentic. Since we had a rather late lunch at around 2:30 pm, we didn’t have to wait long to be seated. Although there were plenty of staff members, it took a while for someone to take our order. Thankfully, the food arrived quickly once we placed our order. The portions for the noodles and most dimsum dishes were quite generous, but the egg tarts were smaller than average. Most of the dishes tasted excellent, and we were very happy with the overall dining experience. It cost us around £30 per person, but we left feeling very satisfied and fulfilled.

Overpriced for what it is. Bland and small portions. Not worth the money.

Truly awful. Booked this restaurant as we were a group of 8 and thought the venue would be great due to space. Front of house staff greeting customers as they walk in were great, but it all went downhill from there. Waitress was incredibly rude and impatient when taking our order, with the food itself tasteless and offering poor value for money. Will not be visiting again.

Had an early evening meal after a quick walking tour of the London sites so a great place to relax and enjoy a quiet meal and beer. Although busy we were not pressured in any way and the food was tasty and well presented. Second visit so that tells you something!

Had an evening meal 1st December 24. Set menu for two. Mixed Platter starter, duck pancakes and then lemon chicken and crispy beef for mains. Starters were nice but mains were not great. The beef was tasteless and lemon chicken only passable. We had a few bottles of beer and 2 malibus and coke. Service was good. The bill was nearly £140. Felt like a rip off. They added a tip onto it aswell.

Terrible experience. We were served scraps of three roast meats that smelled rotten—confirmed by the waitress as the last of the meat for the day. Had to send it back. The crab and vermicelli was a sloppy mess in a pot, overly fishy and unpleasant. Spent £116 on four small dishes, one being a mistake. Appalling food and a total waste of money. Avoid!

The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere and nicely decorated. It’s a shame that the service was poor. The waiter was unhelpful, disinterested. We had vegetarian spring rolls which were fine I guess. Crispy but not much of a filling. Crispy salt and chilly bean curd was very not very crisp and very soft inside the coating and very little seasoning. The only chilli seasoning was the fresh chillies sprinkled on top. The main dishes were super over priced and not to our taste. The egg fried rice was more like boiled rice with mixed in egg nothing about it was fried. We did enjoy the vegetarian Singapore noodles. Can not recommend this place.

I am gluten free, and Wenny was incredibly gracious, knowledgeable and helpful with navigating the menu. There ended up being plenty of options which is lovely, and the food is delicious. Very grateful!!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was quite nice and the food was generally tasty. Unfortunately, the staff was extremely unfriendly and the prices were greatly overpriced. The side dish has to be bought separately for each dish, which in the case of normal “plain noodles” means a bargain £8.80 on top. In addition, a tip of €20 for 5 people was simply added to the bill, which unfortunately does not reflect the service at all

Awful experience, spent over £50 for the most tiny food portions, barely any meat in the meal, just all vegetables and on top tried to enforce service charge so expected to pay over £50 for awful food, small portions and awful service. When we complained the waitress was very rude, no consideration for customer service, just want to make a quick buck

I go very regularly, once a week, it’s the best place in Chinatown at the moment and I’ve been going to Chinatown for 35 years. Great service, quick, efficient, gorgeous hearty tasty fresh beautifully cooked real food. The waitresses are always pleasant with me, (I leave a cash tip always…they deserve it). Highly recommended. 10/10

full restaurant with a large majority of Asians, which is a good sign. very good dim sum including dessert, a udon dish a little inferior but very decent. Service a cold epu and an "error" (addition of 2 dishes on our order) which we were able to rectify in time. Good value for money

My family are Chinese and we have several restaurants in Brighton so I know what is good and what isn’t. I was skeptical eating Chinese food in such a touristy area as I know they normally lack on quality. However, our dim sum was delectable and I was pleasantly surprised! I even featured the restaurant in my vlog on my YouTube channel - would definitely recommend!

I ordered a dish that I've even cooked at home, Kung Po, which honestly was anything but what I asked for. The dish is chicken with peanuts, it's just that they didn't even get it right when it came to Peanuts, but they didn't bring Cashew. I complained and they said it was like that here, they were rude with their approach.

Chicken with honey and lemon sauce and a small portion of rice: for more than 15£ that's not even worth the time waiting for it. No particular taste, the chicken was too wet from the sauce and too sweet and also with no seasoning on the meat. Rice was dry and with no taste whatsoever. And it was meant to be "small portion" but I can not imagine the bigger one. I couldn't even finish half of it. Other members of our group have ordered other meals and it smelled like stinky socks. Like literally I thought someone's socks were smelly after the whole day of walking in shoes. Service - I poured my coke in small portions to still have bubbles in it and to not make the ice melt and mix with the coke but the waitress came and poured the rest (⅔ can) into my glass without asking and for no reason, just to take the empty can... 🤦🏼‍♂️ Never ever again. Reconsider the visit.

Restaurant typique de China Town sur plusieurs étages (hyper grand on ne le dirait pas depuis l’extérieur). 80£ pour 2 adultes et une ado…le service est sans particularité, la nourriture égale aux autre restos du coin.

Their Irish roast duck definitely lives up to their reputation 😋👍👍👍, the duck fat n skin is an experience to try even if you think you had the best roast duck elsewhere in the world. Their roast pork and charsiew are not bad. Just order half a duck if you are eating alone, it's totally worth the calories 👍

I'm sorry I have to give this a one star because the staff (most of them are waitresses) are rude and unfriendly, especially the non-Chinese cashier. Food quality was fine, typically HK style, really no complaint for £8. I'm sure this place doesn't care for the bad reviews since the tourists do not have many choices.

Oh my - how this restaurant has changed! I’ve been going here for 20yrs. Not so much the last couple yrs No wine, decorations and cooking a pale shadow of what it used to be. Sadly I probably won’t return.

We visited Royal China after seeing generally good reviews online, but our experience was shockingly poor. First of all, the service was painfully slow — it took 25 minutes just to get two dim sum dishes, and this was on a Monday afternoon when the restaurant was far from busy. There's simply no excuse for such delays with so few tables to serve. To make matters worse, they had the audacity to add a discretionary service charge on top, despite the clearly subpar service. For a restaurant that positions itself as premium, the overall experience felt like a complete rip-off. Unfortunately, we left feeling disappointed, frustrated, and frankly, ripped off. Would not recommend — there are far better dim sum options in London with better food, service, and value for money.
