The food was delicious! Amy, the lady who served us, was so lovely, friendly and helpful. Great service and although we did have to wait over 30 mins to get a table, the food was well worth the wait. We've been here a few times and we highly recommend it.

The Royal China restaurant was very bad in service. The food got to the table too fast I find this a very not enjoyable experience, especially since it was the first restaurant I went to on the first dinner of my trip. Personally, I would recommend this place if there were to be better service.

My recent experience at Royal China was incredibly disappointing. The prices were outrageous – £17.50 for a simple side of Chinese broccoli is frankly insulting. But the real issue was the food temperature. When our dishes arrived, everything was lukewarm at best. My father specifically pointed out that the broccoli was barely warm. Instead of apologising or offering to rectify the issue, the server argued with us. He even went so far as to place his hand under the plate and claim it was perfectly warm. We politely yet firmly explained that the temperature was unacceptable and requested they speak to the chef about reheating it properly. We specifically asked them to replace it not to just microwave it. Unfortunately, the server's attitude was dismissive and borderline rude. He roughly placed the plate back on the table with the broccoli still lukewarm. He then returned and took it away. After waiting for over 20 minutes, when all mains were completed by us, the broccoli appeared. This time, it was scorching hot – the server couldn't even hold the plate comfortably. This entire ordeal took an unnecessary amount of time and left us feeling frustrated and disrespected and they charged us for everything anyway. I wandered which table this Chinese broccoli was going to to next. It's incredibly disheartening that the wait staff would try to gaslight us about the food temperature. Customers shouldn't be made to feel like they're imagining things. This kind of behavior is unacceptable, and it certainly won't win back customers. Needless to say, I won't be returning to Royal China anytime soon. I hope if you the reader are disrespected you will not tolerate this as they are rude to almost everyone. Continue to disrespect your clients and you will see how fickle success can be. No business is above the need to offer respectful service to clients, especially those with genuine concerns. I am sorry to be so hard, but I have to be as hard as we were treated to get my points across here.

The Royal China in Baker Street and its associated Restaurants offer probably the best Dim Sum in London - I was very sad when the Bayswater branch closed. Reading some of the other reviews, one sees a distinct lack of understanding of how the place operates. The regular staff run the 'front of house' and take your order, but the staff who deliver the food to your table may not understand much english. The food arrives as soon as it is cooked, not all at once. So one has time to eat each dish whilst it is hot, rather than all arriving together and getting cold. Having to queue is normal, so its best to try to arrive outside peak times. It is well worth the effort.

Horrible staff and food. Took 30 minutes just to get served, and when we told someone there was no apology just grumpy faces. When the food arrived it was cold. And just to make it worse when we asked for the 13% service charge to be taken off due to the bad service we were quizzed why, and once again no apologies just rude behaviour. Do NOT recommend.

I used to visit Royal China in Bayswater regularly for 20 years but it has unfortunately permanently closed. Missing it badly, I decided to check out the Baker Street restaurant and this is quite similar. Simply outstanding dim sum at very fair prices. Compared to most Chinese restaurants the service was exceptionally friendly and polite (admittedly on a quiet day). (Tip: don’t come by car - nowhere to pay & park and I picked up a fine!)

I visited here with 3 other adults and a young child for dinner and was seated in a lovely spot near the corner. I cannot complain about the service - nothing outstanding but no complaints. We ordered roast duck, seafood noodles, crispy squid, egg fried rice, beef in oyster sauce and honey roast pork. I must say the main meals were delicious so again, no complaints there and our bellies were satisfied. The desserts however, were a huge disappointment and incredibly overpriced - £6.50 for lychees in syrup?! £6.80 for almond tofu with fruit cocktail?! Canned lychees are £1.50 in Sainsburys and canned fruit cocktail is 90p! LOL. All they did was put a little in a bowl! The desserts are definitely an afterthought in this restaurant and as a dessert lover I would not return to this restaurant purely based on that.

I have been going to the Bayswater branch for years and this is my first time in Baker Street. I read some negative reviews and wondered what happened to those people? I have a great time today with 14 of us celebrating a family birthday. We knew there’s a queue and didn’t have to wait too long before we all sat down. We ordered lots of dim sum and all very fresh and piping hot. Some of them, for example the beef dumplings were a bit rough in texture but all the others are excellent. The waitresses were tireless and responded well to every request. We bought a large birthday cake and candles, these were presented to us after the meal in a gilded cake stand with fresh plates and forks. All the leftovers were packed away nicely for us to take home. The floor manager was particularly attentive and not because I spoke in Cantonese, some of us got equally well treated when they asked in English. We need to treat the catering workers with respect as it’s a demanding profession and they in tune will reciprocate with a kind service.

To celebrate The Chinese lunar new year here for Dim Sum. Overall dim sum quality and taste above average. Black Gold lava bun is not nice, less filings and the filling is blends, lack of salty egg flavour. Fried Squid paste is too salty. Classic Chinese restaurant decorated. Nice staff, quick service Normal price in London city centre. P.S: table reservations for dinner only, means you need to queue up for dim sum. Procedures: tell receptionist (cashier) your table size and you will get a ticket, keep checking numbers called on the TV inside the restaurant. Their system is based on table size to queue up, so you will see the number called is not followed the numbering order. It’s popular dim sum restaurant in London. Avoid long queue ( weekend waiting time: 1 hour in average) > better to queue up before 12:00noon(open time) or after 1400.

There are a lot of very mixed reviews about this Royal China. I have been there numerous times. A lot of the reviews focus on the service but I think it is worth bearing in mind that this is a very busy restaurant and at weekend lunch it is packed when there are no reservations , a fast turnover of tables and queues of customers with a ticketing system. So they are under pressure. I have often discovered that when restaurant staff are under pressure the best approach is to actually give a small tip to your server . I did this a couple of times at Royal China and ever since then I have received A1 service. It may not be the typical British way where most of us will quibble over service charges and never dream of showing some understanding of what may cause rushed or what may seem rudeness which often is not knowingly rude at all. As far as the food is concerned I would give different ratings to the dim sum which is amongst the best in London and the regular non dim sum menu . I tend to stick with steamed dumplings , rice paste , buns and baked deserts rather than the fried dim sums and I have never had anything other than good food. The regular menus includes some great noodle options - beef Ho fun, Efu crab noodles and the steamed sea bass is great but I wouldn’t call that menu exceptional overall. So it is very much a love it or hate it restaurant which is reflected in the mixed reviews but personally I Iove it for lunch and opt for its more fancy sister restaurant Royal China Club a few doors away for a special dinner experience.

I have known Royal China for the longest time since I moved here 15 years ago and I finally had a chance to try it and see why it's so popular. We knew they don't take bookings so we got there just when it opened at 12noon on a Saturday and the queue was already long. We secured a 4-people table and ordered quickly as we were told that it would be a long waiting time given all the tables were ordering at the same time. We went with plain Cheung fun that came with soy sauce, sweet sauce and sesame sauce, custard buns, siu mai, crab meat soup noodles, some vegetarian dumplings and Chinese mushroom noodles. Food came pretty quickly and everything did look good. My favourite was the custard buns, hot in the middle with the sweet custard and salted egg filling, such a great dim sum menu. I wasn't a big fan of the noodles, bit too bland. The Cheung fun was really good too, such a nostalgic moment for me as I used to eat it a lot growing up in HK back in the days. Perhaps we didn't order the most famous dishes but I personally wasn't mind blown by the food, unlike all my friends' experience. It's a good dim sum restaurant but nothing amazing imo. Service was alright, classic Cantonese style where staff just didn't care if you were having a good time or not, which is exactly what I expected from Cantonese places so it's a good sign that we were in a authentic place! They were however quick to re-fill hot water whenever our tea ran out. In total, it came to £18.80 pp which was just amazing considering the food we ordered and how full we were. Very happy with how affordable this place is. All in all, I liked the food and had a good time catching up with my friends. It's not noisy like Cantonese restaurants usually are so vibe wise it's relaxing. Would be happy to come back again soon!

Horrible experience The food was bland (all items) and the portions small (both noodle dishes). I am comparing this to their two other branches and there is a noticeable difference of quality and quantity. I also received a negative experience from the waiters. 'Waiter1' took our order of food. As the food items arrived mid-way by another waiter 'waiter2' , one of the dishes arrived but I didn't order that item and informed 'waiter2' of this. 'Waiter2' returned the dish and informed 'Waiter1' of this. 'Waiter1' (who took our original order), approached me, pointing at the item on the menu and said to me "*YOU pointed at THIS item*". I informed her again, that I did not order the item, and the menu she was holding (referring to) was a completely different menu I ordered from with different items. I ordered from a savoury menu, and the 'Waiter1' insisted I ordered an item from the smaller (dessert) menu. If they watch their CCTV footage they will see the true 'encounter'.

Giving it 3 because this may be a one-off as it was a Saturday night. I’ve had good times here before. On this occasion food was cold (duck came out pre-shredded up and cold then sent back and a fresh unshredded one was brought out). Had 4-5 different staff serve our table, all were busy and overwhelmed- had to ask for things 2-3 times before it came (eg bowls, spoons). No cutlery change between courses. Had to ask for courses and empty dishes to be cleared from table.

We visited the Royal China yesterday (booked a table for 3pm), when we arrived the chap at the entrance was lovely and welcoming and showed us to our table. Downhill from there I am afraid, we were served by a very grumpy looking waitress. We ordered one pot of tea, 2 beers and a bottle of wine. The tea and beers arrived pretty much quickly. We waited a very long time for the waitress to take our food order (the wine had not arrived), so we asked her where is our wine, she reluncantly asked the bar staff for the wine, she brought it over (it was the wrong one). Took our orders apart from asking if any of us had allergies, there was no smile, apology, greeting. The dim sum we ordered was really nice, the mains were very tasty apart om the shizuan noodles which tasted like sugar was added to the sauce and did not look like it did on the menu. During our meal, no one came over to ask was everything ok which is pretty standard even in 1, 2, 3 star restaurants. When we were finishing some of the plates but still not yet finished, the waitress started to take away the plates (this is my pet hate). Overall very rude and rushed service. I do not normally complain (takes a lot) but for a so called highly regarded and pretty expensive restaurant I do not recommnend going there.

Terrible experience!!! We have come to this place other times and have always been happy with the food and the service. Today a truly disconcerting situation occurred we ordered a series of Dim sun and to finish half a duck and two beers, while I was sipping the beer I noticed that something like a grain of brown rice was floating (neither of us 2 ordered it) but unfortunately taking the photo with the phone it seemed be mouse droppings. I tried crushing it with my fingers to understand the consistency and the smell it gave off seemed to confirm our theory, I say it seemed because I'm not 100% certain but the manager's reaction left us perplexed, he tried to pass it off as a gnat but a gnat is easily crushed and is easily recognisable. we asked for the bill without even having touched the duck which was put on the bill anyway but he took away the two beers which we obviously unfortunately left after we had almost finished them as the foam hid the surprise. Now I just hope I was wrong but I will only have confirmation after having done the blood tests and if I don't have contact symptoms from mouse droppings.

Terribile esperienza!!!

Just chatting with each and back towards us. The whole time I feel like the waiters just doesn’t want to talk to us, unswerving every question impatiently, or just with silence. Considering it's former reputation this place has become a joke, at least for dinner. No clue about the Dim Sum...

My girl loves this restaurant. So do I 😀 Sweet and sour pork with king prawn fired rice are her always picks. I ordered and collected dimsum to-go for her last meal in London. We loved to have your dishes again in 2023 (as we did in 2022)and hope to be there again soon. Nice servers are there!

Dim sum here is great. Came at 12pm on Saturday and didn’t have to wait for a table. I often eat dim sum in HK and the dishes here are very comparable. Would definitely come back again.

Still the best dim sum I've had in London and one of my wife's and my faves. The consistency is epic given the amount of diverse, fiddly dishes they put out, especially over the weekend. If you can't get a table, they also have a stall in Bang Bang oriental food hall in Colindale which is solid and well worth a visit.

Sadly I can no longer recommend this restaurant which has been a mainstay of family weekend gatherings for over a decade. The quality of the food has collapsed - greasy spring rolls felt like yesterdays scraps, wu gok were bullet hard, honestly much of the food felt stale. Atmosphere has always been bustling and I can forgive the brusque staff as it is essentially tradition, but a new buzzer system for tickets made conversation difficult. It’s not particularly cheap either, prices having risen quickly since covid. I’ll not return in a hurry which is very sad.

Always incredible! Food and service is great - shame portion sizes reduced a few months ago whilst prices simultaneously increased... Still one of the better value dim sum spots in this part of London Thank you

This place is clean and overall a very nice restaurant. Food quality and taste is good with a good range of dishes, price is also average for this level of quality. Overall a good place and recommended.

Manager begging for service charge after poor service. They did not even clear the plates, bear in mind we ordered 5 dishes so when we were putting our coats on all the food was still on the table which included meat bones. Quite disgusting. They forgot to give my sister a fork , twice. Nobody checked on our food. For this reason, I asked to take off service charge and instead of just doing it the manager tried to argue with me and guilt trip me into playing the extra £10. When I put my foot down and said no she then asked ‘can you at least pay 50%’ to which I again said no. She would not stop and in the end I agreed to pay a little under a third of the service charge so I could get her to go away as I had plans after dinner. Never coming back as never in my life have I ever had anyone pester or beg me to pay service charge and try and haggle with me

Been here at least a dozen times usually really good. Never got the Yeung Chow fried rice. Today I discovered that it's14.50 for a tiny bowl of rice. Do better?

Food was ok but slightly bland compared to a few years ago, hopefully it’ll be better the next time we visit. Service was ok but felt a bit cold shouldered from the manager, we asked for something but she just ignored us.

The standard of dim sum have dropped drastically since I last visit a year ago. It tastes rather bland. The waitresses pretended not to notice you even though you waved. Wanted to have some sauce and it only came after we almost finished our food. Will never go back there again

Rude, rude, rude staff with subpar standard food. AVOID at all costs. Went for Dim sum and was greeted by rude staff. No one came to serve us to the point where we had to walk to them only to be told to wait and that someone will come. People around us were looking at us thinking why we weren't being served. Food quality had dropped tremendously with prices only going up. The staff did not serve us the whole time we were there. The staff made eye contact with me only to serve other non Asian customers and blew us off with a very rude hand gesture. Asked to cut our dim sum and was told they don't do that when in previous visits, they did it happily. In addition, all the non Asian tables had hand sanitiser while we mysteriously didn't. Seems like they only wanted to serve the non Asian customers.

The food was amazing. Best Chinese food I have had in a long time. The service was strange, the waiter seemed very uninterested.
