"A real disappointment! The approach at the entrance was rather rude, and we quickly understood why... Tasteless food, tasteless and clearly out of the freezer. The chicken noodles had barely a few pieces of meat, the vegetables were swimming in water, and the service deteriorated as soon as we didn't leave a tip. In addition, the prices are excessive, with a difference of £5 to £8 compared to other restaurants on the same street. And for To top it off, the place is dirty, a real tourist trap to absolutely avoid!”

I've been coming to London Chinatown Restaurant for over 30 years. It is always excellent. Yummy food, perfect service & good value. I visited with my mum last Saturday after seeing Les Mis (1 minute walk away). Our meal was perfect as always (set menu: mixed appetisers, peking duck, king prawns in black bean sauce, s&s chicken, vegetables in oyster sauce, fried rice). I left my bag under the table & didn't realise until I was on the train back to Southampton. The restaurant staff were so helpful, looked after my bag & packaged it in a box so I could courier it home. It arrived safely with all its contents intact. Absolute stellar customer service. Thank you, Paul, Steve & Christine.

Went here for dinner expecting authentic Chinese food. The crispy beef had next to no beef in it, the Kung Po chicken tasted the exact same and was very over fried, and the pork noodles were bland and tasted like flour. The pork bao bun was okay, but nothing special. And £4.20 for a Diet Coke out of a can is an absolute joke no matter where you are. Would not recommend going here or anywhere in china town as it all looked over priced and over crowded. Staff are also impatient and slow to serve.

The restaurant carries the name of the whole area. We went there before & had pretty good experience. This time we went again & found quality of the food still good in general. Both dim sums & the main meat dish were above board, apart from the fact that crispy pork belly was a bit on the fatty side. I believe most customers would prefer the meat to be more lean than fatty but the served dish was like 3/4 fatty. Service was good in general. Boss man / manager was particularly personable, helpful & smiling. Decor was a touch bland, but is possibly the norm in Chinatown. The real problem was with payment. The bill didn’t come as an itemised one. Instead, a total was shown on the receipt. We were then asked to add tips on the machine. This was the second time we had this happened. We asked if service charge was included. The waiter said yes, but added they didn’t share very much of it. Also he said there were a lot of them to share, so they need this second ‘tips’ to get them going. We must say we were not amused as customers. We declined the request & didn’t add a second ‘tips’.

We were a large group, so we came to this restaurant since they could sit us all. The place was packed and service was quick. The food was excellent! Everyone in our party ordered individual plates, but we tried a little of each of our meals. There was nothing that was bad with the food. It was delicious and I would return for their dumplings alone! When we received the bills, it was itemized without us having to ask as other comments said, so maybe they adjusted this. I paid what I expected to pay for my meal, with the service charge, which is customary in most restaurants, especially with larger parties.

Charge 5 per cent service charge on the bill, that is hidden. I normally tip anyway especially if the food and service is great and sometimes more than 5 per cent. But to be forced into this is wrong, especially when there is no additional service, except taking the order and payment. Which is common in a restaurant and that's what the staff are paid for You also have to pay before the meal. They got the order wrong as I ordered boiled and my wife fried rice 1 small bowl of egg rice came and they said it was for 2 people. They rectified this, however they should have listened correctly to the order in the first place. That type of thing determines if they ahoykd get a tip ot not, not being g forced to pay it

Wonderful food and delivery time, here's one thing I want them and any other Chinese restaurant to improve on: Top priority: The 1.3 billion population of China should ideally be reduced to zero- this is in order to combat climate change, remove toxic attitudes and stereotypes, push for bio-diversity, and crackdown on the Ivory Trade. As soon as you step into this restaurant, you'll be immediately repulsed. The place is dirty, the walls are grimy, and the cutlery looks like it hasn't been washed in days. It feels like you've walked into some decrepit, disgusting restaurant from a hundred years ago. Plus, there's a terrible smell that will confirm you're in the wrong place. The prices are outrageously high for the quality, and you're left wondering what you're actually paying for. They even charge a service fee, claiming it's for "appreciation for the chef." But what exactly are we appreciating when they didn’t do anything special and the experience was nothing short of disappointing? The wait for a waiter is endless. On top of that, she couldn't speak proper English, had dirty hands, and when she finally brought us the bill, it was just a torn piece of paper with some unintelligible scribbles, as if it was written in Chinese. And to top it off, they taped it to the table with adhesive tape! The food was disgusting—artificial, loaded with every possible artificial flavoring. They also forgot one of our dishes, and we had to ask five times where it was. The waiter apologized, saying "the manager went to buy more chicken." Yes, that’s really what we heard. The entire experience was unbearable, and although we didn’t want to admit it, it was worse than we could have imagined. By the end, we didn’t even want to pay because the whole experience was a complete letdown. We confronted them about the terrible food, but all they offered were excuses that did nothing to solve the situation. Businesses like this should not exist. We would’ve been better off throwing that money away or donating it somewhere. I deeply regret spending 130 euros there. This is the worst place we’ve ever been. Stay away at all costs! It’s a scam!

Never in my life have I experienced such rudeness from a restaurant owner. On the menu they state that a 12.5% service charge will be added to your bill!! The owner brought the bill over to us for £110. With 25% service charge added on. I asked for the service charge to be removed. He asked why and I replied, “It’s principle I don’t pay service charge if it’s added onto the bill without choice.” The owner got into a heated debate over it and was stating, that I need to pay it and it’s detrimental to their business. I continued to refuse, he then carried on saying that he will choose the customers that walk into his restaurant whether he wants to serve them or not!!! He was extremely rude!! 15 mins later he brings the bill over to us with the service charge finally removed. I checked his bill, noticed he had slyly added 6 drinks when we only had 2!! I finally got to pay and I stated that I will not be coming back to his restaurant, to that he responded, “good I’ll remember your face I won’t want you back because you don’t pay service charge!!” AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. We went to Chinatown having been to the Royal Albert Hall. We arrived there at about 11:30 and were surprised how many restaurants were shut. London Chinatown was one that was still open. They told us we were the last people to enter (but other people were allowed in after us) and that we had to pay before eating, we had little choice! We ordered 2 of set menu B, priced at £27.50 and 2 Tiger beers priced at £6:50 (small bottle). Hence, I was expecting a bill for £68, but I was charged £77 (you don't get a bill, the charge is scribbled down on a slip, when challenged they said that's what it was) and they asked me for a tip (they didn't get one). They forgot our second course (crispy duck) and brought it after they served our mains, the pancakes were awful. You have been warned, avoid this place.

I actually really like the dim sum and food here and have been many times. Maybe I hadn’t noticed before or maybe it’s a new practice either way it’s WRONG, they bring you the bill with no prices on, I asked for an itemised one and they said they would get me one once I paid, they then ask if you would like to add service when giving you the credit card machine, which of course I did, not that the service is that great TBH. When they brought me the itemised bill, they had already charged me service charge (something like 15%) and then CONNED me into paying again with the CC machine. Not that I am sure they care but that is the last time I will ever go there, practices like this are should be illegal!

This is going to be a real struggle to find a positive. The service was non existent and the food was not good. Whilst looking at the menu outside my husband really fancied some of the dishes, especially the dim sum, so we thought we would give it a go for lunch, one of the staff asked if we were just two persons, which was practically the whole effort at being welcoming or even interested in the customers in general, for the duration of our visit. We were marched to a table, without a single word, then given a piece of paper and a pen, that was it, no recommendations or "would you like a drink or anything", absolutely nothing. We looked through the menus and made a few choices to share, did our best to find them on the piece of paper supplied and waited an age to get the attention of anyone working there, by the way I should also add at this point it was not very busy. The woman came and took our paper and we asked if we could get some drinks too, we were not asked if we would like any. After about 10 - 15 minutes "some" of our food arrived... Stir Fry Glass Noodles with Beef Brisket, ok, this was probably the dish that had the most flavour, even then it wasn't great. Noodles with Shredded Chicken, salty as hell, not one single distinctive taste, I could have literally been eating anything, bland and flavourless apart from the excessive salt. Chicken Feet in Black Bean - awful (or maybe foul :) ), tasted like it had been sat cooking away to itself for hours, absolutely devoid of any taste, just a greasy mess. Fried Yam with Meat, the low point of the meal, which in itself is impressive, I'm struggle to even describe this, again tasted of nothing, but the filling was absolutely alien to my palette, it somehow managed to be moist, dry and flavourless all at the same time, if you can imagine watering down a tin of corned beef and boiling it to death, then thickening it with way too much cornstarch you are in the ballpark of what this was, one bite was more than enough of this dish for the rest of my life, dreadful. After a wait of another 10-15 minutes our final dishes arrived, but by this point we had truly lost our appetite. Again no interaction or engagement from the staff, just threw the dishes on the table and left without a single word. One of the final dishes was dim sum, this was what had originally enticed my husband into the restaurant, this was served without any condiments like chilli oil or chilli crisp or dipping sauces, my husband asked for chilli crisp and again this was dumped at our table without a word. The dim sum were so generic and flavourless that they could have been any frozen cheap supermarket variety on the planet, there were no distinctive flavours or textures, and that seemed an appropriate underline for our dining experience.... until we finally got some more interaction from one of the staff, asking if we would like to add a tip when paying the bill!!!. Possibly the worst Chinese food I have ever eaten in my whole life, flavourless, over priced, and accompanied by the worst service we received anywhere in London over our 4 day stay. Avoid this place like the plague. Awful, just truly awful.

TRAP. RUDE. We wandered China town looking for some comfort food well knowing that most places in this area are tourist traps. Upon checking the menu, prices seemed okay and the lady in front of the restaurant was really friendly. She got us a table but the waiter who took our order was SUPER RUDE. My girlfriend asked how spicy the curry would be (because there was one pepper next to the dish on the menu and her spice tolerance is not so high). Instead of simply answering the question, the waiter condescendingly said that ‘curry is always spicy’ (not even answering that question) and practically laughed at the question. My girlfriend and I were flabbergasted. After taking our order he rudely informed us to pay immediately since we were sitting outside (which was fine). Again it was the tone and the manner in which he said it that was totally unnecessary and rude. In hindsight we should have left the minute he disrespected us. We knew we were walking into a touristy restaurant but expected at least some polite service. Moreover, the food was served instantly. The rice was cold and the soup was flavourless. The table was not yet dressed when we arrived but they didn’t even bother to do so. They tossed some cutlery and plates on our table an that was it. not even laying it out as you would expect at a restaurant. It was a bad experience. Luckily we payed before so we ate quickly and got out of there.

Whilst the food is very good the customer service is appalling. We chose to dine outside and were happy to pay in advance of our food but staff kept clearing the table before we finished eating then requested we vacate the table before we had finished our drinks.

Quite a disappointment.. You think authentic Chinese restaurant in the heart of London’s Chinatown would be better. The portion sizes are very small and the dishes were largely bland.

I was there with my daughter. It was a busy day as it was London Pride in the streets. I ordered food, paid for food, got one of the dishes... then we waited... And waited. As my daughter had finished her dish and I was still waiting for my dish, I was about to give up. I tried to get the attention of the waitress - I asked for a refund of the missing dishes - she then ran away and some seconds later my dish finally got served.... Also, I ordered coca cola zero but got coca cola regular. Food was not very exciting. The atmosphere was interesting. We were sitting outside, and this was a special evening with London Pride ongoing. Lots of people in the streets. Suddenly a fight started in the streets, but it didn't last very long. I guess someone was very intoxicated.

Consistently great dimsum, some of the best we've had outside Hong Kong. XO Turnip Cake, Chilli Dumplings, Chiu Chow Dumplings and Duck Tongues were all great today.

What a horror, the dough covering the dumplins was falling apart, the fried rolls were fatal and the filling became dough…. Bathrooms upstairs on the 1st and 2nd floor. I've been coming for years and this is the first time I've been so horrified by a meal. Everything tastes the same and with the same texture. £61 - 2 dimsums - 2 rolls (Vietnamese and ?) - 1 flat rice noodels with vegetables - 1 glass of red wine (£7.5)

Honestly, I don’t leave reviews, but this is a scam. Re-heated food with small portions. And most of all, NO TRANSPARENCY with the bill. None of the prices were listed, only the total amount was given. The tip was already included in the total, but they still asked a tip! DO NOT COME HERE.

As expected from a typical tourist spot in Chinatown, the experience was rather disappointing. Here's a breakdown of the dishes we tried: Cashew Chicken: 3/10. If you enjoy cornstarch and canned mushrooms, this dish might appeal to you. Otherwise, it's not impressive. Fried Fish: 6/10. It was crispy and salty, but nothing extraordinary. Fried Tofu Cubes: 4/10. These were not crispy and were fried too lightly, leaving them still white. Chicken and Beef Skewers: 4/10. Unfortunately, these were deep-fried instead of grilled, and the sauce was overly oily. Overall, it's best to skip this place if you're looking for quality Chinese cuisine.

In 4 abbiamo speso 135 £, bevendo acqua. Con vino o birra il conto sale facilmente

Tourist trap! This restaurant is not worth the detour. During our stay in London, we wanted to eat in the ChinaTown district. But it was already 11 p.m. and no one was taking any more customers in this restaurant. I regret not going to a simple fast food restaurant. Anyway the food was bland and very greasy. A plate of crispy noodles and just a few pieces of meat in it for £15.50. It's expensive for what it is, although the service was quick. I advise against.

There’s no denying it—Old Town 97 is simply exceptional! (After all, it’s been around for nearly 30 years.) On Thursdays, after school, I always head straight to Chinatown with my good friends. We start by ordering the signature BBQ duo: roast duck and char siu. The crispy skin and tender meat are absolutely perfect, and the dish arrives steaming hot. This is because they use authentic Cantonese air-drying and high-temperature roasting techniques. The fat is rendered during the roasting process, while the meat remains juicy and tender. It’s a must-order every time! We also tried the stir-fried beef ho fun, which was cooked with incredible wok hei (charred aroma). The rice noodles were wonderfully chewy, almost as if you could see the chef tossing the ingredients in the wok! In addition, we got to try the new rotating egg-wrapped fried rice. It comes in three flavors—tomato sauce, curry, and black pepper—with various meat options. I opted for the tomato sauce and beef, and the portion was generous, definitely enough to fill you up. (The egg-wrapped fried rice is available from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., so make sure to get there within the time window!)

Mixed feelings about this place. First time I went it was one of my favorite meals in London. I didn't remember what I ordered and next time I went, was appalled by the taste of the food. It was just BLAND like it was pub food or something. The crab sauce tofu was terrible and had no salt or flavor and also looked like a failure. The dry chili garlic chicken was also tasteless and pointless. I would be vegetarian if that was what chicken normally tastes like. Again, it was really good the last time I went so it's not all terrible, just very unsure if I would try it again, especially for the price.

DO NOT EAT HERE. THEY FORCE SERVICE CHARGE BY SHOUTING AT YOU ! The WORST experience I have had in a restaurant. My daughter wanted to treat me to a dinner out, she said she had been here a few times and said that our favourite food, 'sweet & sour' was really nice, although she said its pricey, but she wanted to treat me . We had to change the noodles as they tasted very burnt , they kindly replaced with no issues , but came back still tasting burnt , just less burnt. The rest of the food was really nice, but for the price I would have expected bigger amount . Anyway for two people it came to just under £60 Sweet & sour Bbq pork 1 very small bowl of rice 1 plain noodles 2 cold drinks 1 tea. My daughter went to the toilet and left the card with me, when the bill came, I saw a service charge of just under £7 i kindly said, would you pls remove the service charge , the younger lady shouted " is there something wrong with the service? " I said no, just that my daughter is treating me and this is her card and I'm saving her a bit as she's autistic ( she doesn't have much) the lady continued to get louder and louder telling me I have to pay it , you know if you come inside you must pay service ". I said I'm giving change from my own pocket , she said "that's different, that's a tip this is service charge" I said "I thought service charge was optional,?" I handed over the card and she bent down and quietly said, "yes, well it is optional, but you know, you should pay 😏 Then got louder again and said we don't charge if you take away , we don't always charge, only if you eat in ". I literally gave her the card to shut her up as everyone was looking and I didn't want my autistic daughter to come and get upset from seeing her mum have arguments, but I was fuming and ready to kick off. I had to sit there , angry & embarrassed (as the place went silent) for a good while, waiting for my daughter to come back. We will not be back as we are regular large family who eat out a fair bit , definitely wont be here , their loss. Rude person . Never again .and I will be reporting to trading standards for forcing service charge on the bill .

I do not recommend visiting the restaurant at all. The taste is less than normal, the place is narrow, the tables are next to each other, the prices are expensive, and the stairs are another story, as if you are in a spiral game that makes your head dizzy when you get up and down it.
