There are three dim sum restaurants at this Baker Street corner and I made the mistake of picking the closest one. It's not bad, but an underwhelming experience at an exorbitant price. It certainly is not an inviting welcome; the woman at the door bordered on hostile, though perhaps it was because of a lack of confidence in her English. Our server was quiet but helpful when asked and seemed a decent guy at heart. The menu is disappointing. There are no bird-based dumplings (chicken, duck etc) except chicken feet. Several of the fish-based ones included Chilean seabass, a fish I dislike and is certainly neither Chinese nor European. We managed to find six dim sum which interested us, but it was otherwise slim pickings on the menu. Everything was good, but nothing remarkable enough to justify the price. (We have had a lot of dim sum, including in Hong Kong and Shanghai). The best was a siu mai shaped dumpling with shrimp and pea shoots. All the dumplings were pretty bland, including a crab spring roll which seemed Vietnamese in conception. The most interesting menu page has auite a few cheung fan options. There is no excuse for these prices. Most of the plates contain three dumplings and cost 10.8 pounds, though as I look at our receipt, most of ours were 8-9 pounds. . Tea is 4.5 pounds a person and I gather from other reviews that they charge for refills. It was a price we simply balked at. They also suggest a 15% gratuity, which is high for London, I think. Our bill for a light lunch for two was 62 pounds. The upside, as I said to my wife, is we did not over eat as we usually do in dim sum restaurants. But this was at best an okay experience, and not one we will repeat.

Beware when you make a reservation! I reserved at Royal China Club but when we arrived, we were told that our reservation was for their other restaurant, Royal China. Completely annoying! I think they were overbooked and had to send us to their other location. So we ended up dining at Royal China which was so noisy it was impossible to talk. Royal China lost its liquor licence because of immigration violations so no wine for us. Food was good but two of the beancurd dishes we ordered were lukewarm when they arrived at the table. My Advice: phone to follow up on any reservation you make for Royal China Club as their e-mail confirmation does not show in which restaurant your reservation is confirmed. They use their own system instead of a platform such as OpenTable, which is weird. In the future I'll be dining elsewhere, in a restaurant that honours a reservation. There are many of them with better food and service.

A nice Chinese restaurant offering authentic (although this word is of course a bit pretentious from me) Chinese food. The setting is a bit 70s but the atmosphere is still charming. The service is very good, as is the food and so you do pay a bit for this quality. For a celebration of a special occasion this is a great place.

Excellent Scotland lobster with cheese sauce noodles (there are other ways you can have it cooked like stir fried lobster with ginger and chives or lobster with soup noodles), the lobster was super sweet and al dente. Other dishes are not bad too but compare to the lobster dishes it not really worth the value. Roasted duck was so so. Service wise is very friendly and quite efficient. Atmosphere was a bit old style chinese restaurant looking.

The food is just fine. No complaints but it’s joyless without heart and personality for the price tag. They charge high prices but serve you attitude I’m only willing to accept somewhere chaa chan teng adjacent. It was barely half full, no bustling atmosphere a great dim sum place should have. We felt rushed out by the staff even so. We’re a scruffy unfancy takeaway family but we’re paying good money to be sitting here! Just an honest word of warning for any readers who could put their money where they aren’t as snobby about the crowd they’re catering to. Don’t forget to ask for no service charge if you’re unlucky enough to receive the same treatment!

This is probably one of the best restaurants in town for dim sums. Apart from a large selection of traditional Cantonese dim sums, they also have their own special ones. We particularly like their mushroom buns & pudding with a fish on top. Totally quaint & fun. I would give zero stars for 'atmosphere' if I could. Someone at every table, including the tiny table next to our tiny table, was coughing loudly and continually. The person serving us was wearing a mask and we could barely make out what they were saying. It was like the bad old Covid days. We had been looking forward to a dim sum feast here. We ordered a few things, but cut it short because of the coughing chorus. The dim sum was okay, but nothing spectacular. I have had better in Amsterdam and Liverpool All in all, a disappointing experience.

Came here with a friend as a belated birthday dinner. The atmosphere of the restaurant wasn't very nice, neither the lighting nor the interior is cosy or pleasant. A lot of waiters hover around and constantly ask if you're done, and they can clear the plates. We had the mixed seafood dim sum and harter crispy duck, which were good and tasty and worth having. Then we had the sechuan chicken with dried chilli, and that was sooo boring and bland just as the mixed stir died vegetables with garlic. Those dishes, two beers, and a bottle of water came up to £130. Nothing was outstanding, some dishes were not even great, the service was annoying, the restaurant was not nice to be in, and it's pretty pricey. Would not come back. There are so many amazing Chinese restaurants in London, and most that I've been to are many times better, cosier and even cheaper.

There are days you just have to do dim sum! I have loved Royal China Club for many years now. The fun and welcoming team, the decor and some of the finest and different dim sum I’ve had anywhere in the world, that take me back to Hong Kong and Macau. On the outside, is a quiet and hidden exterior, like the misty visage of a har gau dumpling that conceals a delicious adventure inside. Light pours into the shiny red interior that’s decadently laid out with ponds of large banquet tables, brimming and bustling with choreographed staff and happy feasting guests. We’re warmly greeted by Peter, who welcomes me back. He’s the nicest person and seeing Carmen too, they both bring back too many good memories here. When getting the menu, I truly enjoy knowing that it will always have a page of seasonal dim sum specials, but am delighted to see so many additions throughout the menu, that I will say right now are incredible, vibrant and expertly created. First to land… the duck and black pepper pasties, which are light and buttery, are greeted with wagyu beef rolls in a spicy broth and fronds of mushrooms that give the dish a fine noodle texture. A similar familiar favourite are the sea bass rolls filled with cucumber and dressed in glass noodles. A punchy roasted chilli broth meets the fresh sea, which annunciates the whole meal of textures, colours and flavours to come. The traffic light party of steamed dumplings were stacked with a variety of orange translucent wine and lobster baubles, spicy prawn and green bean shoot style siu mai, and Shanghai soup dumplings filled with crab and pork that popped in the mouth. All too damn excellent that we couldn’t pick a favourite. A jazzy pink cheung fun with crisp tofu and mixed seafood bounced on the table like Elton John at the piano, whilst we enjoyed plump ravioli-like scallop dumplings, a staircase to heaven of radish cake, and the ever favourite prawn and mango rolls that are a bit like a more funky prawn toast, where the sesame seeds give a great nutty flavour. After commenting on the BBC’s ‘Great British Menu’ and a chef contestants custard lava buns, we had to finish off with some for dessert. Dark black, decorated in gold, the hot sweet custard excitedly exited the bun. A fitting end to all the pleasurable build up! I regret it’s been too long since I’ve returned with friends, family and my partner, who visited for the very first time and shared my love. Royal China Club does really ‘touch the heart’. I’ll keep coming back for the magical dim sum and seeing the team, who are a key ingredient to what makes this restaurant so special. Thank you team!

Crispy duck was one of the best I’ve ever tried in London, the skin just as crispy. Other things like fried squid, scallop and asparagus, mushroom and tofu were all good. The green veggie was surprisingly impressive to me. There were also a few things I was disappointed at: the abalone fried rice, no abalone at all only the sauce tasted like… the drunken chicken was too drunk, the pork meatballs were too soft and the seabass wasn’t too special… Overall, I still like the place although with the price I would expect something slightly better for the entire quality.

I usually visit Royal China (not the club location) and have always enjoyed the food there. The menu here is shorter and doesn’t have my favourite dishes. My friend pre ordered the pei pa duck and we all regretted it. It was too dry and not anywhere as good as the roast duck we normally have. The dishes are overpriced for what they are. It seems they spend too much on presentation than actual portion size or taste. The service is also not as good as their other locations. We had to try to flag the server’s attention multiple and some requests went ignored. Just go to their other branches. Also, see photo of blueberry with sweet n sour pork. Just unnecessarily complicated.

The restaurant is overrated. The last time we were there they tried to charge us a corkage fee based a "sliding scale" - ie the nicer the wine the higher the fee. They're extremely fluid in their corkage policy... crocks.

Waiters are not really courteous. One expects me to cooperate by his eyesight, staring(!), instead of serving like a waiter as he should be. Food is very good.

Reservations necessary as the place is busy. There are two halls on either side of entry and a few private rooms for diners. The place is a bit noisy due to the loud conversations by the diners. The decor is very simple and the tables are very close to each other. The bar menu is good but there is a very limited choice of beer. The service is very slow especially after 7 PM due to high occupancy even on a week day evening. The menu has a good choice of vegetarian and non vegetarian food. The plates are hot and the dishes are served in metal plates which are hot and heavy so one has to be careful. Starters are served hot and are good in taste especially the mixed fried Dimsum which was a actually in form of rolls and not of typical Dimsum shape. The taste of all the main dishes we had was good especially chicken with peppercorn and spinach and chicken with red chillies and mock chicken for vegetarians. Prices are on the higher side due to it being a fine dining place.

The mother ship. The Queen and the Crown jewel of the Royal China, Club is the best chinese food place I know. Try scallop dim sum, prawn cheng fung, drunken chicken and ,of course, lobster with ginger noodles.Unforgettable.Pricy,but worth it.

Went 2 days ago and ordered half a Peking duck. Forgot to take photos but the meat was very dry and not close to the usual quality of a whole duck at the same restaurant. Dim sum was good as usual which you expect for the premium paid but the disappointment of the duck (which is the reason we went and usually one of the better places in London for it) plus bad service means they will no longer be receiving my custom. I paid for the bill in cash including service and was waiting for my £3+ change but it never came. They had no right to assume I was leaving a tip - extremely rude!

Expensive. Food not bad. Distant service. I spent £163 for two courses and three glasses of wine. The HK style prawns were good but on the tough side. The main course of chasiu and rice was good but it did not combine well with the starter (my mistake). A selection of wines by the glass to be improved. The service was a bit distant perhaps because they were busy or because of language barriers, but for this price you would expect to be pampered a bit more. Overall I would go to Kai or to Min Jiang for a better experience.

Greeted by super sulky waitress. A table of 4 pax and she lead us to the smallest table of the restaurant. I asked to change to a slightly bigger round table and luckily we got it. I thought maybe the timing of our entrant met her worst timing, hence I did change my impression to their service. Unfortunately the next one who came to take our orders had another unhappy face. Services continued to be as poor as it could be. How disappointing that they could not put up a smiling face to their same race and to their customers. Banging and clanging of ceramic cutleries like the very old outdated Chinese restaurants of the 70s… in this restaurant that claimed itself as a ‘club’ - what is the meaning behind this concept? All their female waitresses provided the worst attitudes. Young ones who apparently are students working as part time were normal. Food wise - no big deal at all. Similar tastes as the other Chinese restaurants in London. Prices are slightly more expensive than Royal China without the word ‘club!’ They told me because their dishes are more special. As a Chinese myself, I don’t taste anything unique and exceptional. I won’t recommend to come at all unless you are looking for a poor service with bad attitude.

Good noodles and dumplings; in general, we were happy with the food. However, the service could be better...we ate quite in a rush and there was some confusion with the reservation and their restaurants. Slightly overpriced....(in particular, the beverage)

I have been coming to Royal China Group’s restaurants since around 2008, when my cousin invited me for dinner. The baker street, the queensway, canary wharf, and both the restaurants at baker street. I remember that back in those days, there weren’t many good chinese food restaurants in London. Royal China was the restaurant I went to with my cousin and her family. I would then start bringing my friends and family there. And when another cousin came to London for university, I took them here too. It has been a restaurant that I prized to everyone not just for the amazing food, but also for the fact that it feels like family restaurants, where you would go to for generations, and people remembers your face. After graduating from a nearby Business School, as expected, I booked the Royal China Club to celebrate my graduation and to have my close friends and family dine at my favourite restaurant. Alas, there was a problem. There was a hefty minimum spend that I agreed to with the resto to have the private room where 12 of us can sit in one table, and after generously ordering food and wine that I thought my folks would love, I realised that we would struggle to meet the min spend. Eventhough I did not mind spending it, my folks are not the type to drink £500 wine or eat £££ abalone/lobster at a chinese restaurant. We just love the usual dimsum, noodles, seabass and ducks. So i asked to speak with the manager to plead that they give some leeway with the min spend as it is a meaningful day for me. They were genuinely quite heartless and upset and told me that I should have told them beforehand if I cannot meet the spend so they can put us (12 ppl) on the regular seats. I understand that the manager n the lady at the reception are just doing their job but their reception to my plead were heart breaking and it broke years and years of warmth I felt to this place. The manager gave me a leeway of £1000 out if £1500 in the end but with very very sour face n continually repeating that I don’t deserve the private room if I cannot spend the min. In the end, I managed to spend just over £1250 out £1500 for 12 of us. My guests were very happy, and sadly not I. I was terribly heart broken. My consolation was that Royal China had always hire several staffs that were always incredibly kind and courteous with their guests, including our server (and few others) for this occasion. He did not say anything about my situation but gave me a really kind smile. I am going to bed crying a little because I understood that the attitude that I received today was “just business” and perhaps due to time, Royal China is no longer a place I could call home as I am just another faceless customer with an Amex.

We booked this restaurant for a family gathering of 12+ people as we were told that it was spacious - it did not disappoint. However, it was quite empty for a Saturday night, we were one of two tables in this big room all throughout the night and as we were in a room, we were somewhat neglected. We had to keep walking out of the room to get attention. The food was so so and portion sizes were ridiculous for what it's worth. We ordered a whole peking duck to share between us but it most certainly did not look like a whole duck (I'll post pictures once I get them). Sadly, we went back to our Airbnb hungry, so we would not recommend this restaurant.

We are from the Bay Area in California and used to great Chinese cooking. This was like being at home again. Generous portions, great seasoning and prompt service made for a great start to a fun evening in SoHo. We especially liked the fresh sautéed pea greens which they call ‘Morning Glory’. That, a shared basket of steamed dim sum and half a roast duck (boneless) with a bowl of rice made an excellent meal for two.

The reviews here are hilarious, but accurate. That makes me sad :/ Normally we go here late and the guy sees us, knows our order, and there is no problem. This time, we waited 20 mins in a queue to get in the place late Fri night. We finally get in and have to share a table with randoms. Then no one takes our order! One lady is running around like crazy, one table had a guy sleeping on it holding up customers, one table has two girls on it taking pics of every little thing and no other food is being served at other tables. No food is to be seen. WTH!? No one served us and guess what? The randoms on our table left. So did we. Complete waste of time at 3am. Why bother asking people to queue if you're not going to serve them? Ened up getting breakfast on the way home as we decided you didn't deserve our money. Hilarious service. I can't wait to see what the restaurant is going to reply to this review, as they seem extremely defensive and hurt over every one star review instead of looking internally to see how they can fix these issues. Crazy and unfortunate. All these customers can't be wrong although the restaurant replies seem to want to blame the customers. Finger pointing galore. Sorry. Go elsewhere or pick up a McDonald's on your way - waaaaay better.

WARNING WARNING - PLEASE READ !!!!! I would strongly reccomend all to check your bill at the end of your meal at this restaurant. Always ask for the ITEMISED BILL as opposed to the other receipt (IN CHINESE, OWN LANGUAGE) they like to give showing the total only. They tried to double charge us for the two must expensive dishes on our order twice! When I pointed this out to the staff it reduced out bill by £40.00. This place caters for alot of tourists and you never know what they are charging fir if you dont ask for a itemised bill in ENGLISH. they can really charge anything if you dont ask for an English bill. NOTE: This restaurant also charge 50p per takeaway box. Even after you spend £149.00 there. Dont make sence. Going back to my favourite restaurant now Bang Bang Colindale. Its ashame our whole experience with goldmine was ruined because of this experience. They lost a customer that spent an average of 390 within two visits. Feel free to message me or contact me back about this Goldmine. ABSOLUTLY DISAPOINTING AND DISGRACEFUL. VERY NOISY RESTAURANT.
