I have been a customer for many years now and seen landors & landladies come & go. I will never forget Eddy Mallen & B Harvey, two very different characters, Eddy was the landlord with his wife Doreen in the 70's & B was the bar manageress in the 21st Century, her father Bill Harvey was a very well known landlord in Teignmouth & Shaldon. Now it has a new landlord Matthew & his partner Michelle & they are doing as great job, his customers are building up from day to day, and if you make a visit you will see why. Mattew is an excellent landlord, friendly & a terrific sense of humour. I celebrated part of birthday on 11th February & I had a fantastic evening, bumping into old friends, talking about the past, drinking Matthews wide selection of wine, beer & spirits. I believe he will be providing food soon, I wish him & Michelle the best of luck.

We always go to the Ferry boat when staying in Shaldon and have even spent a New year's eve there in 2017. We love the location with the terrace area next to the beach. The pub was taken over late last year and has been totally redecorated. It looks fantastic and Michelle and Matt, the new landlady and landlord are just the nicest people!!!It is very obvious that the locals still love it there as much as they always have which I think is really nice. The decor in there now is beautiful. They have a great selection of drinks (most appealing to me is the huge selection of gins with an exceptional selection of garnishes and tonics! )The entertainment on the Friday night that we were there was very very good. This was already our favourite pub in the area but now is even more so. Really look forward to going back next time.

My wife and myself recently stayed in Shaldon again for a short brake .We got talking to some of the locals about the village and they suggested that we pop into. The Ferry Boat and see the transformation of it.I can honestly say it is Stunning .We wear welcomed by Michelle and Matt .The pub has been completely refitted and is so much brighter and inviting .I cannot wait to we return in summer and sit in the beer garden and enjoy the see view with pint of real ale. They have a varied selection of bar snacks available at present and will be starting to serve a full bar menu when the kitchen has been fully refitted in the next few months.

Recently moved to Teignmouth but quite often pop across to Shaldon. This wonderful pub has just been taken over by new management and been completely refurbed apparently. What an amazing job has been done - wish we could have seen the “before” to appreciate the “after”. It is absolutely lovely. Michelle and Matt be very proud of yourselves. Wish more pubs were like this gem - especially the ones in Teignmouth! We will be “ferry” regulars . See you New Year’s Day if not before!

We had lunch at the crab shack in Teignmouth and then went to the Ship pub, very busy friendly atmosphere. We then came back to Shaldon and thought it would be nice to have a final drink before returning to the holiday cottage. What a bad idea, the pub was quiet with no atmosphere. The bar man was constantly on his phone obviously arguing with someone, the language was atrocious! Will definitely not return

We visited twice during the week. On first visit, server was quite abrupt. Asked if food was being served and he promptly just pointed to a hand written sign saying no food available. I asked about rest of week and he just shrugged and said don't know. I was surprised that he wasn't trying to keep our custom for rest of the week. On second visit, server was much more friendly and cheery. Lovely setting overlooking the sea and boats and drinks very reasonable.

Called for an early Sunday evening drink. Wonderful location with courtyard on the waterfront. Excellent duo playing live. Asked for a sav and merlot but barman proceeded to pour into plastic. I asked for proper glasses as wine in plastic is ghastly and we are supposed to be resisting the use of single use plastic. It's also on the waterfront!! I was told that he had no choice as it was a directive from Teignbridge Town Council. This, whether we were inside or outside. I reluctantly accepted this but was cynical. I subsequently sent an email to Teignbridge council questioning this policy and the promotion of plastic in this time of serious concern regarding the use of plastic and damage to our oceans. They replied and I quote, "I can confirm that it is not a condition of their premises licence to use plastic " glass."

Recently arrived back from a weekend in Teignmouth and upon our travels came across the Ferryboat pub in Shaldon and what an absolute find it was. The pub is very cosy, with lovely decor and super smiley and friendly bar staff. And, they're dog friendly so we could even take our dogs inside when the wind picked up outside. Which was a bit of a shame as their seafront garden is beautiful and is in a fantastic location. After looking on trip advisor to leave a review, I am shocked at some of the bad reviews but must stress that this pub is now under new management and I can highly recommend a visit when in the Teignmouth and Shaldon area. They even have a fantastic little ferry that drops you outside from Teignmouth beach! As for the food, I myself decided on the seafood platter and wow, I wasn't disappointed. It was fresh, tasty and well presented. My husband went for the Rump steak (which we were told by our server is from the local butchers) and it was cooked to perfection with all the trimmings. Having a gluten intolerance he was very happy to find that many meals on the menu including all the chips are gluten free including their strawberry cheesecake which was just divine. Our two sons had kids meals which they seemed very happy with, great choices and free ice cream for the kids! Overall, a great pub with real ale (try the Teignworthy Old Moggie, a wonderful local ale), delicious food and a relaxed and cheerful atmosphere. Thank you for a lovely evening Ferryboat Inn.

We fell upon The Ferry Boat Inn back in March when we were spending time with family in beautiful Shaldon. As my parents had just moved to the village, we were keen to acquaint ourselves with the local area...particularly the pubs and restaurants! What a find it was! It has recently been taken over and is now ran by two sisters who, along with the FBI team have worked so hard to turn the place around. They instantly made us so welcome and listening to the local people, it seems that they really are a breath of fresh air in what is a gorgeous 'real seaside pub' with regular live music on Fridays and Sundays. So, on our next trip down, last week, we were intrigued to hear that they had just started their food offering and had opened their restaurant upstairs, headed up by Chef, Shelley Surgenor. We booked in for Saturday evening and were welcomed up to the quaint and simple yet stylish intimate restaurant upstairs. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere, with stunning views out across the estuary looking over to Teignmouth. The staff were very attentive and the food was stunning! Two of our party shared the Seafood Sharing Platter which they said was outstanding. I had a steak which was cooked perfectly and several chose the Gammon Steak in a Cider Sauce - again, absolutely gorgeous! I wouldn't hesitate in recommending The Ferry Boat to anyone who is lucky enough to find themselves in this beautiful Devon fishing village and looking for somewhere to eat. Excellent food using locally sourced fresh ingredients, in a lovely traditional pub, now with the addition of a gorgeous little restaurant. Thanks guys....we will be back!!!

This is good little pub run by two very enterprizing young ladies in a challenging market. It is a traditional pub none of that plastic rubbish, no juke boxes. The pumps are well kept served with local micro brewery beer. Supported by locals.

Good place for lunch and in my opinion more of a restaurant than a pub. Nice seating area and good atmosphere at a decent price.

Please don't visit Shaldon without visiting the Ferryboat! Fab food in a quaint olde wordly atmosphere. Stunning views from the shore side beer garden. Friday night band night a must

Third review of this place.Oddly, since the summer it has gone downhill. No separate menus, just the blackboard. The beef and ale pie looked to be the same 'pot' meal as the beef stew, just one had a puff pastry lid plonked on it, and the other some dumplings. The beef (in the pie!) was tough, and swamped by the gravy.

There was supposed to be a "varied menu that offers something for everyone, highlighting fresh fish, local Teign mussels and locally sourced meat from our family firm of butchers" along with a Specials Menu. There was no "varied menu" and a very poor selection chalked up on a blackboard with no fish at all on the menu apart from a pretty disgusting fish pie. The white sauce was certainly white but was also tasteless, probably flour and milk and not much else. The table was gritty and dusty, the table mats had bits of food waste stuck on them, and carpets and furniture had seen better days. The staff were absolutely wonderful which is why I haven't rated it as "terrible" but the food needs to match the description on the Shaldon tourist information website, or else they need to change the entry.

A popular pub with the locals as well as the tourists, we had lunch in the garden overlooking the estuary - lovely fresh sea bream fillets. It's a 'proper' pub and has live music on Friday nights and Sunday afternoons. Family and dog friendly. They didn't serve food in the evenings though when we were there.

Called in for a drink and to ask about food. Wrongly told by member of staff that food served till 9pm. BUT not on a Sunday, the day we were there. We sat in the beer garden in the sunshine looking out to a fab view of the estuary.Seemed to be a very busy place each time we passed by.

The afternoon turned out nice, so we had a few more out on the decking overlooking the estuary. A great way to pass the time. The food looked good, must come back.

This is a small locals pub in a coastal village. Its intimate, friendly and the prices good, especially compared to London from where we come. Good garden. I'd stop for a pint if I were you

We walked in here but hadn't booked a table on a Friday evening, the staff were more than happy to accommodate us. We sat upstairs looking out over the at the wonderful views. We ate the mussels to start which were delicious, with steak for our main and it was very tasty indeed. My 4 year old had the fish and chips and she was very impressed. We will definitely visit again if we visit Shaldon.I am not sure why this place has any negative reviews, the food and staff were fantastic, I would definitely recommend.

An old looking public house with a great atmosphere ,staff are friendly service is good, good menu for food, and drink. A little bonus of this place is over the small road next to the beach is the garden with benches, so sit a while with your food and drink , watch the boating world go by. Have visited here many times, a true watering hole...

The best things about this pub are the lovely views across the estuary from the outdoor and the live music which they have .Not really suitable for children as the pub is lively ...full of groups of men and women..most using choice words..not really a place I would want to take my children. Seems to be more of a pub for locals and seems a little out of place in such a lovely quiet little village

Stopped for lunch after walking from Lustleigh with a friend on Tuesday 26/3. She had a tasty baguette and I had the most delicious cheesy chips. The service was great, the atmosphere was warm and cosy and the waitress was so welcoming. The cakes looked amazing too. We're planning a return visit soon

The food here is amazing, we have had breakfast and dinner. There is a wide selection of delicious breakfast options, and our dinner last night was the best meal we've had in a long time! Our compliments to the chef!

We often pop into the Country Table for Brunch/morning coffee. The food is cooked fresh to order, you can swap ingredients on a standard breakfast (eg mushrooms for beans) free of charge. The cakes and scones are nice. The service at the till is great, as are all the staff. It is great value for money.
