Had a Takeaway. Food good but delivery dreadful. Two hours to deliver to Southwold! And it was no where near as hot as it should have been Was a small family gathering so did not want to complain at the time. Won’t be using them again!

We saw many of the negative reviews were about delivery - we therefore collected as it is 4 minutes out of Southwold - and easy to find. One point - it is cash only. The food was excellent. They warned us it would be an hour - it was available exactly on time. Really hot - in temperature as well as taste. Very very well spiced. No issues whatsoever.

NEVER order from this people. We ordered, the order never came. I'm shocked that on a Tuesday night that a small business in Southwold will accept an order, not deliver and make no effort to inform their hungry customers that they were unable to deliver for whatever reason. Baffled, angry and very very hungry.

I ordered the Lamb Hasina. It was the most shocking food I think I’ve ever attempted to consume in my life. I still get clammy at the thought of it to be honest. Pretty sure it wasn’t lamb and I highly regret seeing if it was as I spent the entire next day in close proximity to a toilet. My husband ordered the Chicken Korma and experienced the same crippling stomach pain and regret the next day. Two items never actually arrived with the order and when I called back I was told that they would be with me shortly. We waited 45 minutes and when I called back again I was told they would send what I ordered but I would have to pay for it again!!!! We said forget it. In hindsight it was a lucky escape for the person who ordered the King Prawn Balti as I can only begin to imagine the consequences of consuming that. Absolutely abysmal service and the three people I spoke to were extremely rude despite it being their mistake. Shocking service. Shocking “Indian” food. Shocking stomach pains. Save yourself.

Southwold doesn’t have an Indian restaurant and only one Indian takeaway located on an industrial estate just outside the town. The lack of competition might explain what I thought was a slightly high price for a takeaway but the portions were good and the meal could not be faulted.

The first visit to Shoeme (when in Southwold high street) was uninspiring and uneventful. However, what a difference tonight. I ordered a number of veg dishes which took about ten minutes to cook. Total bill just over £20 for enough food for two of us. Staff pleasant and the new establishment is a nice clean unit set on an industrial estate about a mile from Southwold. Food was really good, not greasy and the taste was appropriate for each dish. Enough for seconds, so portion size is nice as well. Will certainly visit again when next in Southwold or surrounding area.

I had used the Shoeme Balti several times when they had premises in Southwold and always been happy with the food, but had been a bit put off by some of the reviews since moving to Reydon. However, glad we were returning customers. Four of us had food delivered Sunday evening, I had Lamb Dhansak which was perfectly spiced, tender pieces of lamb in a lentil sauce. All the food arrived piping hot, delivered by friendly driver. Fellow diners all happy with their meals also. Won't hesitate to use again.

This is the worst meal we have ever eaten. We tried this place 10 years ago and had grey, insipid food. Now we live here we thought we should give it another go. We wish we hadn't. The food was luke warm, tasteless and nothing like any Indian food we have ever had. The chicken tikka masala was like korma with red dye in it and the tandoori chicken was skin and bones. Just don't understand how anyone can rate it well. Admittedly they have NO competition but you would be mad to pay for such awful, cold, tasteless food. I tend to be too generous usually in rating things but even I will never go here again.

In 37 years of eating curry this has to be the most revolting I've ever tasted. Couldn't finish it. You know, I take that back - it might not be the worst curry as I'm not convinced it has the right to be called one. Rogan Josh: warmed up meat with a weak gravy (no spice or heat whatsoever) and thick undercooked onions. Naan bread: crumbly and dry by time it came out of it's bag. Tandoori king prawns: I ate these as I was so hungry and will post later how that went. All-in-all, as pleasant as the chap who served us was, I'd avoid this place at all costs.

Visited here a couple of years ago and asked for their prawn and egg special with extra chilli. It was bland with no sign of chilli so a couple of nights later I went back and asked for the same, reinforcing my request for extra chilli. It turned up just the same - no chilli and bland. Today I revisited this takeaway and yet again asked for fresh chilli on their prawn and egg special. Guess what? The same bland dish, not a hint of chilli. Sorry guys, but three strikes and you're out. There's no Indian restaurant competition here so I guess they think they can ignore their customers. Stay away.

I don't know if because it was mid week we got the weekend re-heats out the freezer (if we did that isn't acceptable either) but the food from our take away from tonight ranged from the not very nice to the indelible. Everything had bits of salad sprinkled on it before the lids were shut.Rice was riceNaan beard was from a packet and cold Saag aloo was okChicken tikka masala was edible but the sauce appeared to be based on jam as a basic ingredient both from sweetness and tasteOnion baji didn't taste of anythingChicken chat starter - weird, smelt oddVeg curry - awfulLamb tikka biryani - appeared to have been made from as burnt bit of lamb left over from someone's Sunday roast (3 days ago) soaked in vinegar and covered in burnt onion rice and for no apparent reason, salad! (Who wants hot salad!)We live in south London surrounded by a rich and vibrant food culture much of which is Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi food. This bore no resemblance to any of it. We have eaten curries from there for many many years and never been ill afterwards. The curries vary in taste and quality, sometimes they're tasty and fresh, sometimes they're tasteless and uninteresting . It's OK, nothing more & nothing less. The issue really is that the Shoeme is the only curry house in Southwold so in the absence of any competition they offer a mediocre curry with service to match ! We had a take away from Shoeme last night (Friday 22/08). The prawn bhuna was runny, lacking body, and lacking in any flavour whatsoever. The lamb methi gosht had little by the way of methi leaves and was clearly a stock curry sauce. Alarm bell rang at the speed at which the order was served, some 15 minutes between order and despatch. The Shoeme Balti House has quite possibly ruined our long weekend break in Southwold. Obviously, we can never prove this, but it seems a tremendous coincidence that three out of the four of us all fell ill after buying a takeaway from there. We ordered our takeaway for four from Shoeme last night. We were told that it would take 25-30 minutes. When it was time, we collected the food and took it home.Considering that it was meant to have been freshly prepared, we were shocked when each dish turned out to be just warm. (And we were staying just across the road from it, so the food didn't have much chance to cool down.)The first person to report problems was my daughter, who felt very ill by the middle of the night, with nausea, stomach cramps etc and all that follows from that. Then my wife reported serious stomach cramps. My turn came in the morning, and by the afternoon, I had a temperature of 38.8C.The only person to not be ill was my son-in-law, and this is possibly because he was the only one not to order rice, which is a high risk food.Suffice it to say that we will never ever go there again. And our experience is a valuable reminder to check any proposed eatery via Scores On The Doors (where Shoeme scored 1 out of 5 earlier this year.)

It's like they cook one chicken stew with tomatoes and pour in some spice to the Madras. We had no choice of restaurant as we arrived in Southwold about 9.45pm, but I still wish we hadn't bothered.

I don't like to be negative but this was not a good experience. I ate here when i was desperately hungry which would normally mean that I would eat virtually anything. However when the food came it was a massive disappointment. The three curries we had all tasted bland and there was no evidence of any flavour or spices to complement the tomato sauce. But fortunately there were the naans to salvage the situation, I thought. That was until I ate them. The texture was unfortunate and resembled cake rather than bread. If you are truly hungry and/or dying for a curry, go to the Tesco Express and microwave their Chicken Madras as it will provide far greater satisfaction.

Decided to have a takeaway so tried this place. Had to wait 20 minutes as the food was cooked to order-I had a vegetable korma which the sauce was ok but where were the vegetables?! Sag aloo was tasty though. My partner had king prawn tikka masala and the sauce was bright red and a bit tasteless-considering it was cooked to order, wasn't that hot, heat wise-had better takeaways. All said the man who took our order was very friendly!

We did not know the area and needed to eat before driving home. The meals arrived before the bread which We had to wait for. The meal was absolutly disgusting. When i informed the manager of this hé was very rude. He thought we didnt want to pay and said he was going to call the police i explained the good was terrible not That we were not paying. It was à waste of money and we both felt sick yuk!! Dont eat here!!

I'd just like to add my voice to those saying that this is a great little South Asian takeaway. My son and I were staying in Southwold during a cycling holiday. Everywhere in the town seemed to be full, too expensive or both. Then we stumbled across this place... It looks unprepossessing from the outside but don't be misled by the appearance. They serve a great range of South Asian food, including the standard favourites as well as several specialities from northern Pakistan that you don't often see in "Indian" restaurants in the UK. All the food was tasty with fresh flavours. The naan was especially good. The only downside is that, while you can sit at one of the tables inside to have your mean, they don't serve any drinks other than water or cans/bottles from the fridge. If they offered tea, lassi, fruit juice or other non-alcoholic drinks, I would have given them 5 stars.Definitely worth a visit.

We ordered a very large order on Sunday evening. I asked for a variation on one sauce to which they were very unhelpful and wanted to demand a further £2 per dish! At this point I wish I had left! Food tasteless and very over priced for very bland dishes. Would never return.

We love Indian food and have to say that our first takeaway from here the other night was brilliant. Every dish was fantastic. We like hot curries but they have to be full of other flavours..and three of us are vegetarian. this certainly hit the mark. Highly recommended

Read the reviews today, decided to take a curry back to our boat and was glad we did. Fresh ingredients, very tasty and good service. It's predominantly a take away with 2 tables, if you fancy stopping. Better than your average curry house.

Living just round the corner we use this take away fairly frequently. We have never been disappointed. Food always hot flavoursome and value for money.Being the only Indian in town there is often a wait, but the wait is worthwhile

Read the bad review and expected the worse, turned out to be really good, best meal so far on our holiday. Really tasty and good value, ignore the previous bad review!

This had one good review so we tried it, Please don't. We love our curries and its always our first night holiday treat wherever we go, well we wont ever go here again. It was quiet and had no other customers, we should have left there and then, but no, we ordered a full takeaway meal. It was totally flavourless, no spices used whatsoever. Don't go, you will be disappointed............

Every time I stay in Southwold I always have a curry take away at this place. It doesn’t look much from the outside and on the inside it could do with a refurb. However the curry’s they produce are fantastic. My wife especially who favours vegetarian dishes thinks they are great as well. You would struggle to find an Indian eat in restaurant that is better than this. Some of the restaurants in Southwold are pretty dire but this takeaway is like a red beacon. It is also very consistent in terms of quality in each of the 10 or so occasions I have stayed at Southwold. The only negative about this place is the parking which can be difficult.

It’s over 4 years I order from India Gate and it’s always great! I always get my food delivered or I collect I’ve actually never sat down but I always see the place very busy. The vegetarian food is amazing, the food always arrive piping hot and I can pay by card at the delivery I love it. My favorite take away in beccles!

We were recommended to visit the Green Dragon pub from a close friend, as we were staying at the campsite in Bungay and only a short walk away. I liked the character of the pub inside, although that was as far as it goes. We had some drinks and food and were pretty let down, after hearing good things. The salt and pepper chips were swimming in grease and were almost indelible. Most of the menu items were unavailable at 5pm (chicken tenders, all the rolls, steak etc). The chicken wings were also of poor quality, containing lots of blackened meat. Although perhaps i am being overly critical it is pub grub after all.. As a whole the staff were fine, especially the young lady at the bar, whose name I didn’t catch. She helped us in sorting a refund, as we were incorrectly charged for some items. To summarise, i’d visit again for the character and drink, although i would definitely avoid the food.
