India Gate in Waveney

It’s over 4 years I order from India Gate and it’s always great! I always get my food delivered or I collect I’ve actually never sat down but I always see the place very busy. The vegetarian food is amazing, the food always arrive piping hot and I can pay by card at the delivery I love it. My favorite take away in beccles!

Booked a table for when they opened, after speaking to someone on the phone literally 30 minutes before, arrived and it wasn't open at stated time as well as stated booking waited 15 minutes before going back still closed even knocked on the door! All lights off! May give them a second chance if they respond to my girlfriend Kelly who booked it! Terrible business considering we spoke to someone with booking literally 30 mins beforehand! Wasted journey, very unprofessional

We had a takeaway, half a portion in each tub, rice missing from two meals, hair found in food. Warm food. We collected it. Although customer service was very good. When given the issues for the missing rice they were very apologetic. When found hair on the dinner they said that they have no one with white hair said they would send another one out and then hung up with out any apology

Ordered takeaway. Phoned up previously, staff said it would be about 45 mins. Arrived 45 mins, to a large queue of others also waiting for their food. I paid for this and continued to wait for another 45 mins. I did ask how long I would have to wait, but they didn’t get back to me. I imagine people queuing and standing around isn’t a nice experience for people sitting in the restaurant. Clearly had way over the capacity that staff could manage. When finally getting our food, food was bland. My Tikka Massala sauce was tomato sauce? Our Pilau rice, was plain boiled rice. I live in Norwich and am used to better quality of Indian cuisine. The quality is unfortunately, very poor. I assume they are so booked, due to this being the only place to go in Beccles.

Well I ordered delivery first of all the driver seemed off for got my drinks and when I ring up to say the drinks wasn’t there they made up the car had broken down then they hung up so I ring back 5 mins later and the driver answer and said his window is broken so not very happy at all and not offered to bring me the drinks or refund

Lovely food, they hadn’t got any alcohol unsure if a problem that night or changed from licensed, there is a close off licence so wasn’t too much of an issue for us

Got a take away on the 04-11-23..collected it and had to re-heat everything as it was luke warm at best (only live 5mins away) food was very bland chicken was dry and tough bombay potatoes had zero favour poppadoms were soft and not crispy at all...I certainly wont go back.had much better food at other indians than this. Poor and wont go back!!!

We had booked our table in advance as we were celebrating our wedding anniversary. However, when we arrived, we were told a table had to be made up, so we were asked to sit and wait while this was done. Once at our table, we were given menus and soon were ready to order. Meanwhile, another couple came in about 10 minutes later. The waiter gave them a choice of pre-prepared tables and gave them menus. 5 minutes or so later, he returned to their table (although we were obviously ready to order) and asked if they wanted poppadoms and drinks. They said they were ready to order, so he glanced over at us waiting, but still took their order. He then answered the phone, took another order and unbelievably started serving a queue of takeaway customers. Needless to say, we walked out, feeling overlooked, insignificant and worthless. We have often used this restaurant for takeaways, since recently moving to the area and liked the food. But after being ignored and treated so rudely, we will not be returning to eat at Indiagate. Luckily, our anniversary wasn’t ruined. We found a lovely restaurant, The Wine Vaults, which made us very welcome, offered us drinks and cooked wonderful food for us.

We always enjoy going to the India Gate, great freshly cooked food and very good service. Nice atmosphere for couples or families with children.

Havent been out to eat for a long time but tonight my family & i went to India Gate & had a warm welcome from the owner, followed by superb service from a polite, smiley & friendly young lady & the most amazing food. We were so pleased we chose to go there. Overall it was excellent! Thank you India Gate 😊

2 stars is a bit strict but I couldn’t give 3. About the service I can say it was relatively quick but our waiter didn’t seem pleasant at all. The decor is very dated and the atmosphere is alright. My partner’s chicken tikka was delicious but my curry was mediocre at best and gave me gurgling belly.

Just had an excellent takeaway birthday meal. All the dishes were hot and delicious, mains, rice veggie sides and breads. Lovely little touch was sliced lemons and shredded lettuce for garnish, as well as complimentary pots of raita. Too quality Indian food .

Meal was inedible. Our vegetable korma tasted off and the chicken in the tikka marsala was not cooked properly. One of the onion bhagis was literally just a few bits of onion. Incredibly disappointing not up to the usual standard. We threw it away. Waste of money. Rang to complain but they weren’t interested. Won’t go back.

The one thing you can say about this restaurant is that it’s popular. Why? That’s another matter about which I have no idea! Very old carpet and decor outside and inside gives the place a tired look and the menu is about as tired. Nothing inspiring in the food, some of it was ok (how do you ruin a tandoori mixed grill?), but some of the other chicken dishes had chunks that were inedible. Everything looks very similarly sloppy and very brown and didn’t have much flavour. The service was incredibly slow and not very good natured. Even getting a jug of water for the table was impossible after three requests. Their priority appears to be getting the take away orders out once they’ve got you sitting in the restaurant. Staff appear to come in randomly off the street and look decidedly shifty, not even dressed for restaurant work. Overall, I think you’d do better to get a cheap microwave curry from Tesco; this was really disappointing.

The best subcontinent restaurant we've visited since moving to East Anglia. This part of the world is not renowed for this sort of cuisine but this place is pretty good. It won't win any awards, but we will be eating there in the future. Just one point: please Mr manager, don't try to hurry people out the door by presenting your customers with the bill before they ask for it!

Our First visit here and well worth hunting them out.The building and decor could do with a major facelift but the staff and food was above our expectations. An extensive menu and the food was served promptly, hot , tasty and large portions considering the very reasonable cost. We enjoyed it and will visit again next time in Beccles.

They seemed more involved with there takeaway side then the restaurant customers been there three times In the last few mounths been the same every time, wait wait wait.they need to do one or the other takeaway or restaurant they can't manage both .

WE were staying in Beccles for the evening and our host did not want to go out for a meal, so we headed into the town to the India Gate. The reviews are mostly correct, it is a small restaurant which cold do with a good overhaul decor-wise. The small reception area is very busy with folk collecting take-aways and delivery drivers collecting their next assignments. However, the welcome was nice and friendly (I believe her name is Jo). We ordered our meal and enjoyed a very nice bottle of Rioja. Our meal was delivered to the table by a very brusque waiter who probably never learnt to put a dish on a table gently. However, we could put up with that. Then the problem started... It was a very cold day and we were seated just the other side of a dividing screen between the reception and dining areas, so close to the door. Just after our meal was served, the afore-mentioned brusque waiter stormed into the reception and wedged the external door open. I think there was an issue with smoke from the kitchen. As a result, we were now sitting in the cold wind from outside. I got up and closed the door. No sooner had I sat down again, the brusque waiter stormed through again and threw the door wide ope. He turned and asked who had closed it. I indicated that I had. He then stepped towards me and in a very threatening manner told me that I should have asked to have the door closed and not to interfere. So I asked him to close the door as it was blowing a cold wind across our table and, given the fact that we hadn't even touched our cutlery yet, it would soon be too cold to eat. His answer was to tell me that perhaps I needed to eat less anyway! Now I know that I am a big guy, but I do not need to be spoken to in that manner by anyone. So we decided to leave. We asked for our bill and Jo, the Maitre'd, said she would take 20% off the bill as we had not eaten the meal and she apologised profusely about the manner of the brusque waiter. My wife paid the bill using contactless and we left, only to be chased out of the restaurant by Jo and another tall waiter who said that she had been sent out as the payment had not gone through and that she had been told to charge the full amount. So, £70 for one very nice bottle of wine, for a meal uneaten and for the pleasure of being insulted by a very rude waiter who obviously has "little man" issues. Overall, the place is in need of renovation, the food looks and smells good, the wine is very good, the front of house very welcoming, but the service is atrocious and the customer care diabolical. My recommendation? Go elsewhere.

We had two vegetarian/ vegan meals and sides - takeaways. They tasted exactly the same despite them both supposedly being different types of curries. They also lacked vrgetables... The saving grace were the onion bhajis and pakoras but the main courses were a big disappointment in terms of flavour and content- not many veggies in there. Things like chickpeas, peppers, mushrooms even tofu etc are pretty easy to get... given the tesco around the corner. Don't know if we'll try it again next time we're down that way.

Highly recommend India Gate! Amazing onion bajhis & lamb dansak! Highly recommend if visiting Beccles! Would definitely return.

Had a good curry, really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, they seemed a little understaffed, only one person doing drinks, orders and serving. But food was prompt. Will return one day.

Had a really nice meal here midweek in February. Place was already full at 6:30. Member of our party is a Coeliac requiring gluten free food which they handled well. Most meals are naturally gluten free, it’s just the breads and onion bhajis and a few other things are gluten containing. Anyway, would have given this place 5* but the main chap “greeting” guests and waiting the tables was really and I mean REALLY miserable, was just short with us and grumpy from the moment we arrived to the moment we left. Hopefully he reads this review and if he does… please mate, look around, your working in the service industry, so crack a bloomin smile will you pal:-)

Wow, you guys never fail to deliver the greatest food. Meat Samosas, Onion Bhajis, Chicken Razalles, Butter chicken, coconut rice and garlic naan. This was ordered as the restaurant opened on my birthday tea Sunday 8th, we were advised the wait would be 60-80 mins which was not a problem. The food arrived with in the time frame and OMG soooooo worth the wait. Great ingredients and beautifully spiced a total sensation for the tastebuds. I can’t recommend this place as it will delay my future orders going in. 🤣 If you want the best traditional cuisine then this is the place to visit or have a home delivery. Mahoosive thank you for our delicious food at amazing prices might I add. Indiagate is a MUST 6 ⭐️ in my book and I’m sooooooooo fussy 😋😋 Fussy Sam x

Been here a few times now, twice in the restaurant and now twice takeaway, must say the quality of food is top notch, no difference from eating in for getting it delivered. Thanks for a wonderful meal guys, and the prices are good also. If you haven't been then your missing out.

I have to complain first... we waited 1 hour 30 mins for a takeaway which is totally ridiculous which did frustrate me some what but..... this was the best Indian takeaway I have ever eaten hand on heart unbelievably good. Shame we live so far away would try sit down next. SORT IT OUT GUYS! Excellent food crappie service

We popped in on the off chance whilst on a little holiday close by. All restaurants were booked locally. It was very busy, but we were welcomed and we had the most amazing meal. All three of us enjoyed our food. An absolute gem, even nicer than our local Indian. Thank you!

I dont understand they are open till 11:30 if they won't deliver at 9:30 but sometimes do deliver at 10:30 it's hit and miss getting a delivery

Popped into the restaurant this evening for collection The gentleman that took my order was very polite and I must say, the food was excellent. The kids can be a bit fussy at times but they very much enjoyed a Bhuna split between them. My Chicken Tikka Jalfrazi was absolutely superb, and my partner was very pleased with her Korma. We will certainly be ordering from you again! Thank you for a lovely meal.

Food was excellent - the only thing that could be improved is how chaotic it seems on busy nights like Fridays and Saturdays. Can't help that it is a fairly small space with lots of people in and the staff try their absolute best but the atmosphere just seems pretty chaotic

I had a takeaway Chicken Bhuna, with Vegetable Curry, Mushroom Bhajee and Bhindi Bhajee sides. Each dish was distinctive and provided variety. Ordered over the phone and ready on time when collected. All very nice. Easy parking. No complaints. Will be back soon.

Awful bland food. Delivery was on time, but the food tasted like a stew my old Nan made in the 70s. The word curry or spiced does not describe anything I ate. Threw most of it on the bin as my dog wasn’t even interested.

Pretty good Biriyani, Veg curry, good popas and sauces. Not hugely spicy but then don't like too spicy, value, yes, fair meat content and rice, friendly staff, efficient. Go again? Yes

How can one order a delivery if no menu is published and there is no website? Get with it, guys! Edit, post the daft response below. If I want a delivery why would I come to the restaurant to collect a menu??? How would I know it was current, prices correct etc after a few months? How can on even order a meal for collection without a menu published? Come on guys, this is the most simple, basic stuff there is with regard to running a food outlet. The ONLY thing we need to see online is your name. address, phone number, opening times but above all a MENU! Really, how hard is that?

Food 45 min late. Chicken tikka was chicken in a passata. Veg korma potatoes and cabbage in a sauce. Pilau rice just white rice with a few little specs in it. Disgusting. Supermarket curry would be a massive improvement on this.

I have spent many years of my life overseas and have sometimes struggled to find decent Indian food in the UK but, I found it here. The staff are always friendly and willing to offer advice on dishes, the dishes served are always excellent. We visit this restaurant regularly and always enjoy our evening. Great food, polite and friendly staff. If you are in Beccles this restaurant is a must. Negative reviews can seriously impact a business. Every time a negative review pops up on Google searches, there is the potential to lose customers. 86% of customers hesitate to purchase from companies with negative reviews. Negative reviews ultimately have a cost on the business. Before you post a negative review do the decent thing and speak to the business staff directly. Do it the right way.

We've been ordering from this place for years and for the first time ever they had forgotten something in our order. The food was bland and not as tasty as we know it be usally be. Very underwhelming. Sad that the food came out as it did. (We do not have covid) sadly I do believe we won't be ordering from here for a long time.

Attended last night with friends for our annal Christmas get together. We throughly enjoyed ourselves :) The staff was extremely friendly & polite & service was perfect. Food was perfect as always. Will be coming back again soon 😊

I can't praise the Indiagate enough. The food was amazing as always and great value for money. The Lamb Madras was so tasty and the Sag Aloo the best I've ever had. The staff were friendly and welcoming even though they were busy. Great restaurant.

Myself and a group of friends chose this restaurant for our annual Christmas meal out and it did not disappoint. We were greeted like old friends by the welcoming staff and served promptly once we were seated at our table. Poppadoms and drinks arrived within...

Came here for a birthday meal, was sat next to a group who were being extremely loud and when asked politely to please keep the noise down a bit as our table couldn’t have a conversation the group became abusive, the waiting staff came over and asked us to move tables to which we did, the group making noise then became abusive towards us which completely spoilt our night. The manager then came out and said there was nothing he could do and that they ‘can’t ask anyone to leave’, we then decided to go as the group were still being abusive and attacking somebody in our group who has a disability, the waiter then became threatening towards us when we said we weren’t paying for our meal as they had completely ruined our night. Terrible handling of a situation which left us all with a disappointing night, the starter which we did have we had to wait an hour for and it was average. The food hygiene standards are also poor and it is rated just 2* requires improvement

The best curries in town. Great friendly welcoming staff. Massive menu selection. Excellent quality of food with very generous portion sizes. Incredibly reasonable prices too. This is the best of the best!

All that was needed was a bit of courtesy to others trying to hold a conversation and couldn't hear each other speak over the excessive noise. Just no respect for others. Manager admitted they didn't want to remove the abusive people because of the money he would lose so automatically others had to suffer. Agree with other comments on here, they only seemed interested in the larger parties and taking way too many takeaway orders and restaurant bookings to manage. Definitely won't return. Hygiene rating isn't great either!

This is a regular haunt. Very underrated for how insanely good the food is. Hands down beats anything in Norwich (and we've gone out of our way to try every single Indian restaurant.)

We love coming here. Food is always delicious, staff are always friendly. This is our family favourite. Sag aloo is the best ever.
