We were recommended to visit the Green Dragon pub from a close friend, as we were staying at the campsite in Bungay and only a short walk away. I liked the character of the pub inside, although that was as far as it goes. We had some drinks and food and were pretty let down, after hearing good things. The salt and pepper chips were swimming in grease and were almost indelible. Most of the menu items were unavailable at 5pm (chicken tenders, all the rolls, steak etc). The chicken wings were also of poor quality, containing lots of blackened meat. Although perhaps i am being overly critical it is pub grub after all.. As a whole the staff were fine, especially the young lady at the bar, whose name I didn’t catch. She helped us in sorting a refund, as we were incorrectly charged for some items. To summarise, i’d visit again for the character and drink, although i would definitely avoid the food.

Visited the pub for the first time in 10 or more years. Only went for the beer but have to say all the food being served looked really tasty! Started off on the Chaucer and then the gold, strong mild and finished with a 6% Pale beer. All beers were of a great standard and very reasonably priced too. Staff were great and a nice atmosphere about the place. Will come again soon!

We found this to be a very good traditional pub. Now a connected space internally, it still retains the two room set up with a public and saloon, with the serving area in the public and then a slightly bigger connected saloon room to the side that then leads out to a smallish external garden area surrounded by a hedge. The decor is white and green throughout in keeping with the pub name and there are various dragons of different types dotted about the walls of the pub. A nice traditional pub in its own right, but the key selling point here is the Green Dragon Brewery beers, that are brewed in an outhouse at the back if the pub. The bar has five hand pumps and all were in operation with the pubs own beers for our Friday evening visit. These were the IPA, the Strong Mild, the Bridge Street Bitter, the Chaucer Ale and the Gold. Very lively with the locals on this Friday evening and the couple of beers we tried were decent enough to make this a very enjoyable experience.

Lovely local pub who brew their own and sell if for £3 a pint - not quite spit and sawdust but a proper old fashioned non tarted pub that made my husband consider retiring to Bungay just to live near it. We sat in the large yard outside (love the scaff plank picnic tables)! and had something to eat. The food matches the whole vibe of the pub... what's important? Good beer - tick. Simple food you want to eat with a beer - tick. Husband had a ploughmans...it came sans salad but actually who the heck eats the salad so why put it on when you can have a massive gherkin and a pickled egg instead. I had Canada's national dish Poutine (which I've always wanted to try) and it was great...really comforting and totally not healthy - especially with added chopped hotdogs. Well done the Green Dragon - more pubs should be like you.

Visited The Green Dragon for lunch. The service was exceptional as we were new to the beer so were given samples before ordering. Nothing was too much trouble. We chose to sit outside in the very pleasant courtyard though the inside looked very appealing. We both chose the artisan rolls with pork loin and the most amazing crispy roasted garlic - there'll be no vampires near us!! Hope to visit again but visited at the end if our holiday.

This is indeed a no-frills pub. But that's what I like about it. It does really good (and really cheap) beer, good wine and speciality gins, sometimes has a food menu (tapas) and also has a sometimes raucous clientele including locals of all ages and types. It's like an Irish pub in that sense - a community hub and a multigenerational hangout. All that and wifi too. It should be in a film. Go to the Green Dragon: you may regret it but that's not my problem.

A traditional pub, a microbrewery making their own beer. Seldom do food, occasional curry night. Their mild is cheap, with a wonderful flavour. It's strong. If you need an amputation without anaesthetic 4 pints should do the trick. If you want to last a session take a milder beer. You can mix the beer so you can have insanely strong, strong, or normal. Hereford is a wonderful place, my partner and I stayed for 2 nights in November and the once grand hotel is now in desperate need of TLC. Our bed was dreadful, the mattress was very very soft and old, infact I ended up with back problems from it, which have only now improved. When we arrived we found we were 1 pillow short and I asked at reception to have another sent up but this never appeared. The tea making facilities in the room were dirty and old, we felt we had to go and buy new cups as they were too grubby for us to use. I was put off having an evening meal in the restaurant as strong stale spicy cooking odours filled our bathroom, which is not pleasant first thing in the morning. The food ie breakfast and afternoon tea were very good, as was the service in the lounge and restaurant. The rooms and bedding were clean but the furniture etc were ancient, but that wasnt't a problem. The staff were generally very friendly and helpful, parking was provided behind the Hotel, which was a bonus. I think I could have put up with the tired, but interesting hotel if my be had been comfortable, but I was in a lot of pain for months just from my 2 night stay, and I don't usually have back problems.

Being a young couple me and my boyfriend stayed here for one night. The room was very basic and quite roomy, but like the rest of the hotel the decor was old fashioned but in desperate need of a rejuvenating. The dinner buffet was quite good value but very limiting choice. Being a vegetarian there was little to no choice for mains but salad and starters were lovely however there were no chips on the buffet which is usually a safe bet. However all the food looked soggy sat in heater trollies for what looked like days. The breakfast was even worse with no vegetarian sausages and only scrambled eggs and very few cereal options but a good variety of watery juices but most of the staff were faultless and welcoming. Overall the hotel is in a really good location with many of Herefords attractions within walking distance but we would NOT stay here again as the price is extremely overpriced for what it is and the guests are all of the older generation and were not that friendly.

Has a couple of hours to kill before a train and went here with family for the lunchtime buffet.Have to say it was very good and excellent value at £8.95/head (excluding drinks, with decent draught ale on tap, plus other alcoholic and soft drinks. Hotel has seen better days but this dining room is large, attractive, oak-panelled. It was empty when we went but i guess could get noisy. The buffet included english, chinese and indian food with a generous array of sliced fresh fruit (pineapple, melon, mango, orange etc.) and ice cream (4 flavours). I stuck to mainly curry with the added bonus of having it in a yorkshire pud from the carvery selection! seriously, try it - delicious! There was lamb curry, mushroom curry, chicken curry, vegetable curry, 2 types of rice, sides such as bhaji. I suppose in all each section included about 8-10 dishes. They were actually quite authentic and far better than you might expect from a serve-yourself as much as you an eat buffet. Service (for drinks, chips etc.) was attentive and polite. I expected mediocre, what i got was really rather good, specially for the money. Didn't seem to be a great deal in Hereford but this was nice.
